Westbrook Studios is partnering with songwriter and producer Freddy Wexler on “Soul Superhero,” a new live action musical fantasy film.
The film is the story of a young Black girl who teams up with a magical street performer, known as the “Soul Superhero,” to save her community with the power of music. The musical feature will draw on a number of different genres, with a soundtrack that will include funk and soul numbers, and a production that will involve huge ensemble dance numbers.
The screenplay is being co-written by Kwame Kwei-Armah and Wexler, based on an original story by Wexler.
Wexler is a multi-platinum award-winner, whose songs have been recorded by many of the best-selling artists working today. He’s penned such hits as ““Stuck With U” for Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, “Be Kind” for Halsey and Marshmello, “Slow Down” for Selena Gomez, and “Novacane” for Lil Wayne. It took writer and director Aaron Sorkin fourteen years after the initial meeting with Steven Spielberg at his house on a Saturday back in 2006 to finally get “The Trial of the Chicago 7” made. And according to Sorkin, it finally came together thanks to former president Donald Trump.
