Chilean film-maker Patricio Guzman, who was due to attend Iff Panama to deliver a four-day documentary seminar, has had to return home suddenly to France.
Guzman was due to lead the seminar and conclude on the fifth day with a screening of his Berlinale 2015 Silver Bear winner The Pearl Button (El Botón de Nácar).
The festival, which kicks off on Thursday, is liaising with industry attendees who registered for the event.
Jason Blum will collect the CinemaCon Producer Of The Year Award in Las Vegas on April 14. The Blumhouse Productions founder’s credits include Paranormal Activity, Insidious and The Purge franchises, as well as Oscar winner Whiplash. The Purge: Election Year opens on July 1 and Ouija 2 on October 21, both through Universal. Producing are Bell for More Films, Jett Steiger of Ways & Means, and Miranda Bailey and Amanda Marshall of Cold Iron Pictures. Executive producers are Jason Beck and Andy Bohn of The Film Arcade.

UTA Independent Film Group and Jamie Afifi at Ziffren Brittenham negotiated the deal on behalf of the film-makers with The Film Arcade represented by attorney Greg S. Bernstein.

Man Up actress, director and writer Lake Bell is firing up production on her latest creative endeavour, What’s the Point? (And Other Fair Questions About Marriage), and it’s been revealed that The Hangover star Ed Helms has boarded the cast.
Earning the financial backing of both Cold Iron Pictures and The Film Arcade, plans are now in place for the film to get the cameras rolling in Los Angeles next month. Featuring a script by Bell herself, What’s the Point? is billed as the spiritual successor to 2013 Sundance hit In A World…, which earned the writer-director critical acclaim and a Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award to boot.

Newbie specialty distributor The Film Arcade has acquired its second film, Lisa Ohlin’s “Simon and the Oaks.” The company picked up all U.S. rights to the Swedish drama and has an October 12 release scheduled for New York and L.A. Ambush Entertainment producers Miranda Bailey and Matthew Leutwyler launched Film Arcade with former Might Entertainment execs Andy Bohn and Jason Beck during the Sundance Film Festival in January. Along with Lionsgate, Film Arcade acquired the 2012 Sundance documentary “The Other Dream Team,” also scheduled for a fall opening.
