[This story contains spoilers from the season six premiere of All American, “Things Done Changed.”]
After nearly a yearlong gap since its season five finale, All American made its season six premiere on The CW on Monday night.
The sports drama that is centered around football player Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) — which has followed the star wide receiver and his friends from his days at Crenshaw High up through his freshman year at the fictitious Golden Angeles University last season — will mark 100 episodes on May 27. It’s a milestone Ezra says came as a shock to him, like many others in the series.
“When I was cast, that was a surprise. When the pilot got picked up, that was a surprise. I didn’t expect any of it,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It took me two seasons to give up my apartment in London. I just thought, ‘They’re going to send me back.’”

The lengthy wait for All American Season 6 is almost over, but a shocking piece of casting news has dropped just days ahead of the premiere.
TVLine reports that Hunter Clowdus is officially out of the show after five seasons playing JJ Parker.
The official confirmation comes months after the actor hinted his time on the show was over in response to a fan on Instagram.
During the extended hiatus, fans wondered if Clowdus was leaving The CW football drama.
In response to a fan questioning his departure, the actor said that he didn’t want to walk away from the show.
“I wanted to give the fans that character proper closure,” he dished, adding that he “began to feel very unwelcome there and it was really taking a toll” on his mental health.

It’s official. There will be no JJ Parker in Season 6 of CW’s All American. Hunter Clowdus, who has been with the series since its launch, has exited ahead of the upcoming season.
Clowdus joined as a recurring actor in Season 1 and was upped to series regular in Season 4. JJ Parker was an outside linebacker turned quarterback for the Beverly Hills Eagles, who shined as a star both on and off the field.
Deadline hears that JJ’s storyline had “organically wrapped” at the end of Season 5, explaining Clowdus’ departure from the series.
Last month, the cast teased some of what to expect from the show’s upcoming sixth season. Read more here.

No one from the show was hurt.
Sources close to the production tell Deadline that crew members did not feel safe to continue following the incident. The CW may be scaling back its scripted ambitions but it’s keeping All American.
The network has handed an early sixth season renewal to the drama series, marking the first scripted renewal after Nexstar took ownership earlier this year.
All American, which was The CW’s number one linear series in adult 18-49, most-watched series on digital and the largest show in total audience across all platforms, will launch its fifth season on January 23.
It will then return for season six in the 2023-24 broadcast season.
Deadline understands the series, which comes from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios, will continue to be produced in line with its previous seasons. This comes despite talk that the network is looking to cut budgets for scripted orders and floating a target license fee for drama series of 1 million dollar per episode going forward.

Hunter Clowdus’ acting journey may not look like lots of other people’s, but he has still found his way to the spotlight. He made his first on-screen appearance in 2012 with a small role in the MTV series Teen Wolf. He continued to play a variety of small roles before getting his big break in 2018 when he was cast as JJ Parker in All American. This All American review contains spoilers.
All American Season 3, Episode 2
We’re back with a new episode and, as the premiere teased us, there is something that went down the summer before senior year with some of these characters. In “How to Survive in South Central,” All American does a good job of unraveling more of the melodrama mystery. But, I guess the slowburn of a certain secret is what makes it even juicier?
Conflict, conflict, conflict. What else do you expect when a team gets a new coach they don’t feel like belongs on their turf, even when he grew up in that said turf? The way Billy (Taye Diggs) handles the cold shoulder of his team members shows how much integrity he has of himself and how he holds it together. It’s reminiscent of Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights in some way. The similarity of both shows,...

“We’re gonna lose the farm, son!” husks country star Trace Adkins in the trailer for “Bennett’s War,” which then goes on to further suggest the viewer is in for a steaming pile of platitudinous corn, with a side order of flag-waving. And indeed, Alex Ranarivelo’s sports drama has a pretty hokey story gist: Wounded military veteran forces himself to miraculously recover his full mobility so he can return to motocross racing and get that prize money to … yep, save the family farm.
Maybe such on-the-nose marketing works for some Heartland audiences, but the good news about that bad trailer is that it does this film a disservice. While “War” may be a duly formulaic feel-gooder at heart, it also soft-pedals the more potentially heavy-handed emotional beats to pleasing effect.

This looks exactly as cheesy and kitschy and uber heroic as described, but maybe that's what works for this. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Alex Ranarivelo's Bennett's War, direct from YouTube: After surviving an Ied explosion in combat overseas,...
