Shohei Ohtani has announced his next team on Instagram: The Los Angeles Dodgers.
ESPN is reporting that the two-time Mvp has struck a deal for 10 years and $700 million, the latter the biggest deal in baseball history with an average annual value of $70 million, not including endorsements, of which there will be plenty.
Ohtani was known to be seeking a deal above $500 million, but today’s figure was stunning, dwarfing previous huge outlays for such stars as ex-Angels teammate Mike Trout and the New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge.
Ohtani started his career with the Los Angeles Angels after several years in Japanese baseball, and became a dominant two-way MLB talent. Every big market team was reportedly attempting to lure him, with the Toronto Blue Jays allegedly the leader until today’s announcement.
The Japanese superstar will not pitch this coming season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Instead,...

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s Tmrw Sports Adds Justin Bieber and DJ Khaled As Investors (Exclusive)
A handful of heavyweights from the music industry are betting that America has an unmet appetite for golf content.
Justin Bieber, DJ Khaled, Macklemore, Darius Rucker and Jake Owen have signed on as investors in Tmrw Sports, a sports, media and entertainment company co-founded by golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and media veteran Mike McCarley.
The first venture from Tmrw Sports is a made-for-tv golf league called the Tgl, which will develop tech-forward golf competitions, to be held in a custom-built arena live in primetime. Woods, McIlroy, Adam Scott, Jon Rahm and other PGA Tour pros have already committed to participating when it goes live next year.
While Tmrw Sports’ initial investment round was led by Connect Ventures and 25madison Ventures, it has since added a who’s who of backers from the sports, entertainment and tech worlds. MLB star Mike Trout, NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade,...

According to reports, Aaron Judge snagged an exclusive Manhattan apartment with breathtaking river views.

Aaron Judge committed to the New York Yankees and is now committing to Manhattan. According to the New York Post, Judge just laid out a ton of cash to live in The Cortland, an ultra-luxury residence in Chelsea. While there is no official word on how much Judge paid for his slice of New York City, an insider told the publication that a private buyer recently claimed two units on the building’s 22nd floor.

One of baseball’s biggest stars is done for the season. Los Angeles outfielder Mike Trout has been declared officially out for the remainder of the 2021 season because of a nagging injury to his calf.
The three-time Al Mvp has been out of commission since May, playing just 36 games. His final stats show Trout hit .333 with 8 home runs, 18 Rbi and a 1.090 Ops.
The Angels are playing their final home game today, then have six more on the road to conclude a dismal season that saw them with a record of 74-81, pending the outcome of today’s game. They are 17 games back of division-leading Houston.
Trout, age 30, was diagnosed with a strained calf, which usually means a month or so of rehabiliation, depending on the severity of the injury. But his timetable for a return kept getting pushed back.

WME Sports has hired veteran sports agents Jim Murray and Michael Stival as well as former LA Angels Gm Billy Eppler to lead its baseball representation business as partners.
Murray and Stival both join WME from Excel Sports Management. Eppler, until 2020, was general manager of the Los Angeles Angels. Eppler’s move to WME had been reported earlier this month by sports outlet Fansided.
Excel, founded in 2002, has built an estimable roster of clients in baseball, as well as basketball, football and golf.

No Federer. No Nadal. No (defending champion) Thiem. And now no Serena. The New York-based U.S. Open starts on Monday, and Novak Djokovic is, once again, feeling underappreciated, especially as he goes for the Grand Slam. Assuming he doesn’t stub a toe, he should reach that goal, lack of applause — or added asterisks — be damned.
The truth is, the female competitors — even without Serena Williams in the competition — will, and should, be what draws the viewers. “It’s very exciting to have this many women with very different games, playing with power and touch,” said Joel Drucker, who has covered the tennis world for many years.

Like nearly everything else, late-night musical performances don’t look the way they did a year ago. It’s not just that musicians in these contexts are playing to mostly vacant studios or places with a single-digit number of audience members.
It’s that a growing number of artists and bands with spots on network talk shows are slowly figuring out a new form that exists somewhere between concert and music video. Of course, that’s a line that was pushed well before last spring. (Take Spike Jonze’s live-to-tape video for Karen O & Danger Mouse’s “Woman” or Travis Scott’s euphoric “goosebumps” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”) But what used to be a rare occurence has inched a lot closer towards the norm. It's been 258 days and approximately 85 years since the Washington Nationals won the World Series. And it seems unlikely any of us will be taken out to the ballgame for peanuts, Cracker Jacks and a pennant race anytime soon. So, yeah, it's definitely a blow that Major League Baseball canceled tonight's All-Star Game for the first time since World War II. We won't see the likes of Mookie Betts and Mike Trout battle it out for division dominance (the prize of home advantage in the World Series was dropped in 2017) or watch teams' heavy hitters swing for the fences in the Home Run Derby. But, unlike other sporting events, baseball hasn't been permanently...

The deal negotiated by uber-agent Leigh Steinberg, which includes a no-trade clause, eclipses the 12-year, $426.5 million contact Angels outfielder Mike Trout signed last year as the biggest ever in American team sports.

With a new decade approaching, Topps unveiled grand plans for an ambitious and unconventional series of baseball cards called Topps Project 2020, a one-of-a-kind trading card event that combined contemporary art and iconic baseball cards.
The concept was simple enough: 20 artists are reimagining 20 iconic baseball rookie cards—Griffey, Mays, Robinson, Koufax, and Clemente, to name only a few—for a complete set of 400 cards to be released over the course of 2020. Each artist brings a unique flavor to the mix. Ben Baller added bling to the Ichiro 2001. King Saladeen was inspired by New York street art when he crafted his 1992 Derek Jeter card. Fucci is going faceless. And JK5 has Mike Trout shooting lasers out of his eyes, in case you had any doubt that the Angels outfielder wasn’t Superman.
To market the project, the trading card manufacturer lined up year-long promotional events and ballpark exclusives to coincide...

Mlb The Show (The Show) is back for another triple play collision of baseball, video games, and entertainment.
This week, (The Show) will talk to a veteran of baseball cinema. Well, actually he’s more of a rookie. Ok, Ok, he’s really The Rookie: Dennis Quaid. The Hollywood star, who portrayed former big-league pitcher Jim Morris in the based-on-true-events 2002 film, discusses his time working on the flick as well as his new Audio Up podcast: The Dennissance.
Of course, what would (The Show) be without its season simulation of the 2020 Mlb season? We can’t be the only ones craving the Pastime, even if it comes from a video game. In “Episode 2: The Rookie,” we also take a look at the origins of baseball video game franchises past and present. Against all climatological odds, March 26, 2020 proved to be the perfect weather day for Major League Baseball’s Opening Day. The temperature reached 57 degrees in New York, 67 in Los Angeles, and stayed in the 60s through much of the country in-between. It was a ideal time for communities to gather together, sit in the sun, enjoy some hotdogs, and take in America’s Pastime.
Of course, we didn’t get to do any of that on March 26. Nor will we the week after that, nor for many weeks still yet to come. Baseball, like everything else, is on hold while the world deals with the surging coronavirus pandemic. But while the games may not be getting played, the spirit of the sport soldiers on.

The Angels were truly in Anaheim on Friday night. The Los Angeles Angels turned tragedy into triumph in their first home game since teammate Tyler Skaggs’s July 1 death, pitching a combined no-hitter on a night filled with memories of the 27-year-old pitcher.
Two pitchers, Taylor Cole and Felix Pena, held the Seattle Mariners hitless in a 13-0 win. That number of runs came the day before July 13, Skaggs’s birthday, topping an unforgettable night.
Skaggs was found dead in a Texas hotel room on July 1. No cause of death has been determined, but police have ruled out suicide and foul play. Toxicology tests and autopsy results are pending.
On Friday night, every Angels teammate bore Skaggs’s name and 45 number, and his mother, Debbie, threw out the first pitch – a strike from the accomplished softball coach.

(There are spoilers ahead for the season 8 premiere of “Game of Thrones”)
Sunday night, we got the beginning of the end for “Game of Thrones” — it brought us the first episode of season 8, the very last season, and it also gave us the part of the story where everybody shuffles into place before all the fireworks really start. And watching all of it, creepily staring into everyone’s soul, was young Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright).
Bran spent the bulk of the episode just hanging out saying “hi” to people, and not really getting involved in in most of the actually dramatic scenes. His function in this episode was basically to remind folks that the end of the world is coming and they should probably move a bit quicker.

With the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox set to begin the World Series Tuesday night from Fenway Park, Fox is looking at a strong showing for the World Series for the third consecutive year.
Major League Baseball has been stuck with the narrative that it’s fading away from the public interest, and has trouble creating marketable stars. After all, one of the sport’s crown jewel events, the All-Star Game, has been hemorrhaging viewers, falling to a record low 8.7 million viewers this past July. In a year that saw the conviction of disgraced former Team USA doctor and Michigan State University physician Larry Nassar, the 2018 Espy awards took it upon itself to shine a light on the unity of the sexual assault survivors and celebrated the feats performed by female athletes over the past year. The show was hosted by former race driver Danica Patrick, the first woman to host the ESPYs since their inception in 1993.
In a somber, spine-tingling moment that brought several in attendance at the Microsoft Theater to tears, around 100 women took the center stage while singer Milck, an abuse survivor herself, sang her anthemic single, “Quiet.” Each woman in the group that filled the stage was representative of the “sister survivors” who spoke out against Nassar.
“Telling our stories of abuse over and over again in detail is not easy,” said Sarah Klein, a former gymnast and victim of Nassar’s abuse.
