The third season of “Hightown” will be its last, Starz announced on Tuesday.
The series, which launched in 2020, follows Jackie Quiñonez’s (Monica Raymund) daily struggle to stay sober while taking on the opioid crisis that is sweeping Cape Cod. Season 2 picked up with Jackie, who sets out to prove herself as a cop and avenge the death of her best friend, Junior (Shane Harper). All the while, the town faces a new deadly drug called Great White.
In this upcoming season, Starz teases “everyone will face a deep reckoning” when the bad guys and corruption arise from all sides. “Beliefs and loyalties will be tested, and Jackie will have to learn to stand by herself and for what she believes in,” reads the official description. Starz has set the premiere date for the third and final season on Friday, Jan. 26.

The Lionsgate-backed premium cable network on Tuesday announced that crime drama Hightown, starring Monica Raymund, will conclude with its third season. Season three of the series from showrunner Rebecca Cutter (Gotham) will debut Friday, Jan. 26, on Starz.
Hightown is the latest series to get the ax at Starz. The cabler recently cleaned house and canceled Blindspotting, Heels and Run the World after two seasons each and dropped The Venery of Samantha Bird with only two episodes left to produce.
The conclusion of Hightown leaves Starz with a roster of originals that includes Black Mafia Family, Outlander, P-Valley, the Power franchise and Shining Vale. More than three decades after he was apprehended in Los Angeles, Richard Ramirez continues to haunt our nightmares. Better known as the Night Stalker, Ramirez cut a deadly swath through the “city of angels,” killing 13 people, while sexually assaulting, burglarizing and attempting to murder many more. His cruelty and malevolence were nearly unprecedented in criminal history.
A gripping new Netflix docuseries “The Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer” chronicles the desperate search to find Ramirez by focusing on the police officers tasked with bringing the killer to justice. The unlikely pair who had to sift through the clues were Gil Carrillo, a young and outgoing detective, and his taciturn mentor, the legendary investigator Frank Salerno.

Filmmaker Leigh Whannell may be best known for his work in the horror genre having co-created the Saw series alongside James Wan before going on to write the first two installments in the Insidious franchise and pull double duty directing the third, but before he returned to familiar territory with the critically-acclaimed and hugely profitable The Invisible Man, the 43 year-old dipped his toes into unfamiliar waters with 2018’s sci-fi thriller Upgrade.
The movie starred Logan Marshall-Green as a quadriplegic fitted with an experimental microchip that gives an AI named Stem control over his body, which he then uses to track down and seek revenge on the men that killed his wife. The $3 million film was a solid hit at the box office after earning over six times its budget in theaters, and quickly earned a reputation as one of the most criminally underrated and overlooked original sci-fi movies of recent years.

Leigh Whannell may be coming off notable acclaim for his most recent directorial effort in a modern re-telling of The Invisible Man, but it seems that the director’s next move will see him revisit the mythos of one of his previous efforts, the 2018 Blumhouse-hailing sci-fi film, Upgrade, this time for the small screen.

Defiance, Season 1: Episode 5 – “A Well Respected Man”
Directed by Michael Nankin
Written by Craig Gore and Tim Walsh
Airs Monday nights at 9 on SyFy
It was in my review of last week’s episode of Defiance that I suggested a StarCraft connection for this series. Maybe it’s because I played those games too much, but that Volge up there looks like it could be an accurate cross between a Protoss Zealot and a Zerg Hydralisk. In any case, the video game influence that you would expect this show to have shines through again in “A Well Respected Man” during a cat and mouse scene (albeit an imaginary one) that infuses a menace reserved for moments with the likes of Silent Hill‘s Pyramid Head or Resident Evil‘s Nemesis. Kenya can’t go toe-to-toe with a single Volge, even if they’re more vulnerable than either of those other entities.

We're a bit disappointed in "Cult" so far, but since we've been a fan of Robert Knepper since his "Carnivale" days, we're holding out hope that things will improve so we can keep seeing him on a weekly basis.
If you concur, here's everything you need to know about what's coming up on the show over the next four weeks:
"Cult" Episode 1.06 - "The Good Fight" (airs 3/29/13, 9-10 pm)
Obba Babatunde (“Dawson’S Creek,” “The Young And The Restless) Guest Stars In The Episode — Skye (Jessica Lucas) collapses the morning after the “Cult” fan party, suffering a serious reaction to the drug she was slipped. The doctors urge Jeff (Matt Davis) to locate a sample of the drug so they can find a way to reverse its effects in order to save Skye’s life.
Detective Sakelik (guest star Aisha Hinds “Weeds”) arrives at the hospital but refuses to help.

Has it really been just three episodes of "Cult" that have aired so far? It seems like at least a few more, which isn't necessarily a good thing, but if you're still digging the show-within-the-show concept, check out a Producer's Preview of Episode 1.04, "Get With the Program."
In this sneak peek "Cult" creator Rockne S. O'Bannon talks about the enforcer Terrence Ross and his relationship with Jeff and Skye.
"Cult" Episode 1.04 - "Get with the Program" (airs 3/15/13, 9-10 pm)
The Notebook — Jeff (Matt Davis) tells Skye (Jessica Lucas) about Ama (guest star Neelam Khabra), a woman he met on a “Cult” fan site who claims that her husband is missing after becoming obsessed with the show. When they finally meet her, Jeff notices that she has a “Cult” notebook that looks eerily like Nate’s notebook.
Ama introduces Jeff and Skye to a man who finds and deprograms cult members.
