In the wake of headline-making docuseries Quiet on Set, its subject Dan Schneider is facing new claims of sexual misconduct.
Former All That star Lori Beth Denberg tells Business Insider, in an interview conducted by Quiet on Set executive producer Kate Taylor, that Schneider played pornography for her, lashed out at her on set and once initiated phone sex.
In 1995, the powerful kids TV producer, who served as head writer on All That, called Denberg into his office, telling her that a female producer had met with him to discuss Denberg’s weight gain. He was reportedly upset and told Denberg he should’ve been the one to talk with her, since he “understood what it was like to be overweight,” Business Insider writes.
The conversation shifted, Denberg says, and Schneider showed Denberg, who was 19 at the time, pornography clips on his computer. This included a video of a woman...

Former Nickelodeon actress Lori Beth Denberg says All That writer Dan Schneider showed her pornography and tried to start phone sex with her when she starred on the kids’ comedy series. This comes two weeks after Schneider filed a lawsuit against the producers of ID‘s Quiet on the Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV docuseries, which posited that Schneider’s myriad TV shows sexualized young child stars like Ariana Grande and Jamie Lynn Spears.
In an interview with Business Insider, Denberg claims Schneider repeatedly put her in uncomfortable situations where he had a clear power advantage during her four seasons on All That.

“All That” cast member Lori Beth Denberg has accused Dan Schneider of showing her porn, initiating phone sex and more when she was just a teenager. Denberg starred on “All That” for four seasons between 1994 and 1998. Schneider was a head writer on the series. Denberg gave an interview to Business Insider in which she detailed the alleged situations Schneider put her in.

Matt Dillon is taking on the legacy of Marlon Brando for a biopic about the making of Bernardo Bertolucci’s controversial “Last Tango in Paris.”
Dillon portrays Brando alongside Anamaria Vartolomei as Maria Schneider for Jessica Palud’s upcoming “Maria,” which is set to debut at Cannes later this week in the Cannes Premiere section. “Maria” follows Schneider’s life after starring in “Last Tango in Paris” at age 19, during which she filmed an unsimulated rape scene with Brando in 1973 at director Bertolucci’s (Giuseppe Maggio) instruction. The film is based on Vanessa Schneider’s 2018 memoir “My Cousin Maria Schneider,” which was translated by Molly Ringwald.
Per the memoir, Bertolucci did not tell Schneider the full extent of the film’s plot until right before production. Schneider allegedly was unaware of the pivotal scene in which Brando’s character anally rapes her character using a stick of butter as lubricant.

Jeopardy! super-champ Amy Schneider is ready to respond head-on to criticism about her inclusion in the current Masters tournament. Season 2 of Jeopardy! Masters kicked off last week with six of the game’s most elite players battling it out for the coveted title and $500,000 grand prize. Those competing include reigning Masters champ James Holzhauer, last year’s runners-up Matt Amodio & Mattea Roach, 2024 Tournament of Champions winner Yogesh Raut, and Jeopardy! The five-part documentary series Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV was bound to cause trouble. The Investigation Discovery series premiered in March, while the final episode aired in April this year. The series focused on the dark, behind-the-scenes stories from popular 1990s and 2000s children’s programs, showing us what actually happened behind the cheerful and smiling facade that all of us saw on the screens. The series’s particular focus was Dan Schneider’s tenure as a producer and showrunner at Nickelodeon. And while Schneider undoubtedly created some of the most memorable children’s shows of all time, the series showed the dark side of his work.
Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV received praise from both critics and viewers for all the great work invested in crafting the series, although some critics have commented on how the series avoided portraying Nickelodeon’s workplace culture properly.

Dan Schneider is taking his gripes with Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV to court. The former Nickelodeon show creator and producer is at the center of the story in Investigation Discovery’s headline-making docuseries, with accusations including incidents of sexism, racism, and toxicity on the sets of his shows by former adult colleagues and child actors. The series also presents horrifying details about one actor’s experience being assaulted by a later-convicted child abuser, and Schneider reportedly contends that the marketing materials conflate the two portions of the story, making him look like he was involved with the latter. Dan Schneider has sued Investigation Discovery for defamation over his portrayal in Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, accusing the company of falsely implying that he sexually abused children who worked on the Nickelodeon series he created and ran.
Schneider, in a lawsuit filed on Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, says his depiction in the five-part docuseries is a “hit job.” While it’s true that two child sexual abusers worked on network shows, he says he had “no knowledge of their abuse,” condemned it and “was not a child sexual abuser himself.”
“But for the sake of clickbait, ratings, and views — or put differently, money — Defendants have destroyed Schneider’s reputation and legacy through the false statements and implications that Schneider is exactly that,” the lawsuit says.
Warner Bros. Discovery, which distributed the project on Max, and producers Maxine Productions and Sony Pictures Television are also named in the complaint.

Warner Bros. Discovery, which distributed the project on Max, and producers Maxine Productions and Sony Pictures Television are also named in the complaint.

Embattled producer Dan Schneider is fighting back against Quiet on Set, Investigation Discovery’s explosive limited series that promised to delve into the toxic and dangerous culture behind some of the most iconic kids’ television shows of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, the lawsuit accuses Warner Bros, Maxine Productions, Sony Pictures and producers Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz of defamation. You can read the lawsuit here.
After the series dropped, Schneider apologized for his behavior that was depicted Quiet On Set and vowed to hold himself accountable for how he acted on his Nickelodeon shows. He taped a 19-minute interview that was posted on You Tube, in which he says “watching over the past few nights was very difficult. Me facing my past behaviors, some of which are embarrassing and I regret. I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology.

Dan Schneider has filed a defamation lawsuit against the producers of the Investigation Discovery docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” which uncovered alleged abuse and misconduct at Nickelodeon and became Max’s biggest streaming title ever.
The lawsuit, obtained by Variety and filed by Schneider’s attorneys Jana Moser and Richard McKie, reads in part: “‘Quiet on Set’s’ portrayal of Schneider is a hit job. While it is indisputable that two bona fide child sexual abusers worked on Nickelodeon shows, it is likewise indisputable that Schneider had no knowledge of their abuse, was not complicit in the abuse, condemned the abuse once it was discovered and, critically, was not a child sexual abuser himself. But for the sake of clickbait, ratings, and views — or put differently, money — Defendants have destroyed Schneider’s reputation and legacy through the false statements and implications that Schneider is exactly that.

Showrunners are the creative visionaries of a series.
They might not be the original creators, but they cover all aspects of the creative elements, evolve the show's vision, and decide where the story and character arcs will go.
They run the writing rooms, head the development, hire writers, and ensure actors are kept happy and that the budget is not exceeded.
Series are usually a collective effort, with writers giving their thoughts, but showrunners have the final say and are essential.
Where would the industry be without people like Shonda Rhimes, Matt and Ross Duffer (Stranger Things), and Ryan Murphy?
It would be mundane and repetitive.
Intelligent and prolific showrunners are the difference between a hit and a flop.
They set an unwavering tone for their ideas, and consistency is vital.
If the reason you fell in love with a series is altered or gone one day, then the connection created is absent,...

A few years ago, filmmakers Emma Schwartz and Mary Robertson remember taking note of video compilations from old Dan Schneider series that showed children and young teens “enacting scenes that are arguably sexual in nature.”
“One example you see Ariana Grande squeezing a potato, or Ariana Grande — who was then a young teenager — pouring water on her chest and face,” Robertson recalls during a panel at Deadline’s Contenders TV: Documentary + Unscripted event. “And you see Jamie Lynn Spears receiving this squirt of a viscous liquid on her face. And there were many on social media who were asking, ‘Did I grow up watching these clips?’ “
Their shock over what they found on social media, together with a story about ’90s kids TV in Business Insider, is what prompted the creation of Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. The Investigation Discovery docuseries set out to uncover the...

André Holland takes on the role of revolutionary Huey P. Newton in the trailer for Apple TV+’s The Big Cigar.
Far from a straight biopic about the founder of the Black Panther Party, the six-episode limited series based on Joshuah Bearman’s magazine article of the same name delivers the high-impact energy of a heist as it tells the story of how Newton escaped the FBI and fled to Cuba with the help of famed Hollywood producer Bert Schneider (played by Alessandro Nivola) in perhaps the most ambitiously staged and fake movie production of all time.
“You’re the hot-shot producer, man, produce this,” Newton tells Schneider as they begin to cook up an elaborate plan to help the political activist evade a murder charge, as police attempt to pin him for the death of a 17-year-old sex trafficking victim in 1974.

Like most things in Hollywood, “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” began with a promise.
After years of whispered complaints about the sometimes-shady world of children’s entertainment, an investigative team set out to expose Dan Schneider’s Nickelodeon and the years of alleged abuse endured by the kids who worked there from 1994 to 2018. Others had tried to tell this story, but this time serious journalists planned to expose the industry’s seamy underbelly — documenting past wrongs, giving voice to victims, and charting tangible change.
Ex-kid actors and “Quiet on Set” subjects Raquel Lee Bolleau and Alexa Nikolas told IndieWire they were presented with a plan for an honest look at the issues and suffering borne out by their childhoods. Lee Bolleau (“The Amanda Show”) talked to the “Quiet on Set” producers about her passion for healing and protecting young performers still in the industry; Nikolas (“Zoey...

Comedian Rob Schneider is refuting a news item that appeared on Politico’s website this week stating that his stand-up set at a GOP event in late 2023 was cut short when his jokes were deemed too lewd for the conservative crowd.
The outspoken right-leaning comic, who made a name for himself as a Saturday Night Live cast member in the ’90s and went on to star in comedies including The Hot Chick and Grown-Ups spoke to TMZ about the Politico report, which reported that Senate Working Group Executive Director James Kimmey cut him off within 10 minutes into the set at L.A.’s Waldorf Astoria over the comedian’s “raunchy” jokes.
The event had about 150 attendees, Politico reports, and the guest list included 40-plus Senate chiefs of staff, who received an apology email regarding Schneider’s brief performance the day after the event. One joke about “Korean whore-houses” made it...

Mayim Bialik is sharing her thoughts about the harrowing allegations in Investigation Discovery’s Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV docuseries.
On a recent episode of her The Breakdown podcast, former child actress Jenna von Oÿ noted how women’s alleged experiences at Nickelodeon while working under Dan Schneider — detailed in the five-part series — weren’t much different than “things that I heard about other sets during our time.”
The Big Bang Theory alum added in response, “Women being berated in the writers room is something that was just like — I’m sorry — it was considered in — I mean, I hate to say it, — it’s considered par for the course. I will say I do not believe that happened in our writers room … and there were things that we all thought were Ok to even joke about, which now we’d be mortified.”

Rob Schneider is refuting a recent Politico report (via Vanity Fair) that claimed a stand-up comedy set he performed last year at a networking event for Republican lawmakers was cut shorts after his jokes bombed. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith reportedly walked out of the room and the set was allegedly cut short after just 10 minutes.
“I’m not changing my material or apologizing for my jokes to anybody,” Schneider said in a statement to TMZ when asked about the report. “Enough with this woke bullshit. America’s sick of it. I did 50 minutes because that’s what I was paid to do. Nobody removed me from stage. Somebody waved to me at the 50 minute mark.”
According to the Politico report, Schneider’s set was full of “raunchy” material and some jokes were “aimed at Asian people,” including one about “Korean whorehouses.” The comedian told TMZ that many of these jokes were actually included in his 2020 Netflix.

Jeopardy! super-champ Amy Schneider is the Producers’ Pick for the upcoming Masters tournament and the show’s bosses are sticking by that decision despite fan backlash. On the latest episode of the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, the show’s executive producer, Michael Davies, and fellow producer, Sarah Whitcomb Foss, discussed the thought process behind selecting Schneider for the final Masters spot, citing both ratings and skill. “Understand that we get a lot of data, and we’ve talked before about how we share the buzzer data, how we see the players. We’re also evaluating constantly how people are playing against a certain level of material, which is another very important thing,” Davies explained. “Plus, this being — and I make no apologies for it — Jeopardy! is an entertainment television program,” he continued. “We do have to look at and work with the network on social media reach and popularity, and the...

The breadth of Netflix’s catalog of true-crime docuseries is deep and wide, with truly something for everyone—or at least some type of murder for everyone. The best documentaries reveal the truth about more than just their primary subjects, and the 20 true-crime series here expose the rot at the core of many of our venerated institutions.
These shows shine a light on our flawed jury and appeals processes, with a recurring theme of corruption highlighted in patterns of forced confessions, police negligence, and prosecutors withholding exculpatory evidence. Of course, while all of them attempt to locate some semblance of “the truth,” not all of them provide a truly complete or objective picture. But that doesn’t make them any less compelling or, in some cases, downright infuriating.

2022 Tournament of Champions winner Amy Schneider is the sixth and final member of the Jeopardy! Masters line-up after landing the coveted Producers’ Pick spot. However, some fans are not happy about it. The announcement was made on Friday, April 12, at the Inside Jeopardy Live! Event at Hudson Yards in New York City. Schneider, who competed in last year’s Masters, will join returning champ James Holzhauer, Season 1 finalists Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach, 2024 Toc winner Yogesh Raut, and Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament winner Victoria Groce. The tournament will be prime-time on ABC, starting May 1. Schneider’s inclusion has been met with backlash. While the 40-game winner is a fan favorite, she had just competed in the Jit!, where she finished as runner-up. Many fans felt this should have disqualified her from Masters. “Honestly not a fan of this decision,” wrote one fan on the Jeopardy! Reddit forum. “We just saw her in Jit,...

There were a few unanswered questions in the wake of the Quiet On Set docuseries release.
Viewers wanted to understand the dynamic between Drake Bell and Dan Schneider. Bell's description of Schneider differed from the picture painted by everyone else interviewed.
Folks also wondered if any of the celebrities who backed Bryan Peck had spoken out since the series shed light on their support.
The latest episode of Investigation Discovery's Quiet On Set is a departure from the original four. This time, it's a less dramatic setting.
The episode features noted reporter Soledad O'Brien as she chats first with Drake Bell virtually and then in-studio with Giovonnie Samuels, Bryan Hearne, Tracey Brown, and Shane Lyons.
While the new episode didn't reveal anything quite as shocking as previous installments, it provided some clarity on a few things that were already addressed.

In a TikTok shared on Thursday, Nickelodeon’s Amanda Show alum Raquel Lee Bolleau, who was featured in Investigation Discovery’s docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of TV, says she was left disappointed by her experience with the docuseries about toxic sets at the kids TV network.
The doc’s directors, Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz, were recently joined by participants Drake Bell, Giovannie Samuels, Bryan Christopher Hearne and co-executive producer Kate Taylor, for a panel conversation for an Emmys FYC event, moderated by Scaachi Koul, that explored the impact of what has become a hit docuseries for ID and streamer Max. It’s rare when a documentary series makes as big a splash as that created by “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” The five-part Investigation Discovery docuseries has been seen by an estimated audience of more than 20 million over ID and Max and generated a groundswell of chatter over its revelations about toxic children’s TV production environments – primarily at Nickelodeon in the early 2000s. The filmmakers responsible for the series that premiered on March 17 – executive producer-director Mary Robertson and co-exec producer-director Emma Schwartz – are thrilled at a reaction that they describe variously as “inspiring” and “overwhelming.”
Adds Schwartz: “I think one of the most exciting parts of that is really to see how many people are not just impacted by watching it, but want to take action or improve the environment in which these problems occur. Taking the work to a next level is something you would hope for.

The response to ID’s docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV has been overwhelming to say the least, the project’s co-directors and executive producers Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz said at an Emmys FYC screening and panel in Los Angeles Tuesday evening. It’s also brought into focus another industry where there’s a “clear lack of protection” when it comes to children, Schwartz said: social media.

It’s the end of an era for Chicago Med as long-time showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider are stepping away from the NBC medical drama at the end of the currently airing ninth season. As reported by Deadline, Frolov and Schneider, who have helmed nine seasons of the Dick Wolf drama, are set to hand over the reins following the conclusion of Season 9. “We were honored to be chosen by Dick Wolf to run Chicago Med and have tremendously enjoyed our association with Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television,” Frolov and Schneider said in a joint statement. The statement continued, “We love Chicago Med and have devoted all our creative energies to it, but after nine seasons, we feel it’s time for us to move on and explore other possibilities. NBC’s Chicago Med will have new leadership heading into its 10th season.
Co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, who have been with the drama since it debuted in 2015, are stepping down at the end of the show’s current run. The married couple have helmed Med for nine seasons and more than 170 episodes to date. A new showrunner will be named later.
That’s an unusually long tenure for any series, let alone one hailing from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment, which frequently shakes up operations both in front of and behind the camera. Frolov and Schneider came in ahead of Chicago Med’s series premiere, taking over for Andrew Dettman. In contrast, Med’s fellow Chicago series, Fire and Pd, have changed showrunners multiple times over the course of their runs.

“We were honored to be chosen by Dick Wolf to run Chicago Med and have tremendously enjoyed our association with Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television,” said Frolic and Schneider in a joint statement. “We love Chicago Med and have devoted all our creative energies to it, but after nine seasons we feel it’s time for us to move on and explore other possibilities. We’ve been privileged to work with a great writing staff, production team and a brilliant cast of actors. We will miss them all.”
