James Gunn has a lot planned for the DC Universe, and a significant weight of it seems to lie in his upcoming animated series, Creature Commandos. There has been a lot of conversation around this seemingly minuscule series, which also happens to be setting up some of the most significant storylines in DC’s near future.
James Gunn’s Creature Commandos
One of the most unfortunate deaths in recent years has to have been that of Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag. It would seem that this painful wound is being ripped open again, as Flag’s father, Rick Flag Sr., is making his way into the franchise.
While many would be excited solely based on this news, it would seem that the character is entering the universe with one goal; revenge. Could Amanda Waller help Flag Sr. kill his son’s killer?

Frank Grillo, who played a tough villain in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, is asking Marvel’s co-president, Louis D’Esposito, for a favor. He wants his character, Crossbones, back in the Marvel movies before he gets too old. The 58-year-old knows time is ticking, so he’s keen to jump back into the role while he still can.

But hold up, he’s also gearing up to voice Rick Flag Sr. in the new Creature Commandos cartoon series. Grillo’s caught between old and new gigs, showing how actors connect with their characters. It’s a tricky balance, juggling different worlds in Hollywood.

It’s been over four years since Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, passed his iconic shield to his friend and teammate Sam Wilson. The ending of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ gave Steve Rogers a happy ending and opened the way for Anthony Mackie’s Falcon to become the next Captain America. However, as we’ve seen in 2021’s ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,’ Sam initially refused to take the shield but ultimately decided to become Steve Rogers’ successor after it became obvious that the US government wouldn’t let the shield stay in the museum.
The six episodes of the ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ series on Disney+ depicted Sam Wilson’s transition from Falcon to a new Captain America. The series also introduced Joaquin Torres, who is now set to become a new Falcon, and John Walker, who eventually became the US Agent after he proved...

Marvel isn't necessarily a name you associate with horror. Sure, the recently-released "Werewolf By Night" on Disney+ and various comic specials like "Marvel Zombies" have dabbled in the genre. However, none of these are particularly scary. It's likely because the brand's bigwigs want to ensure that a specific image is being presented of its vast library of stories and heroes, which isn't unreasonable.
But maybe it's because they allowed that image to be played with once, only to realize that perhaps those responsible for playing around with it took things a bit too far. Maybe you can trace back the squeaky clean nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to 2002's "Maximum Carnage," a haunted maze attraction at Universal Orlando Resort's Halloween Horror Nights, which was held at the then-brand-new Islands of Adventure theme park. If that rings a bell for you, it's probably because the attraction shares the name...

This review contains spoilers for What If…? episode 3.
Episode 3 of Marvel Studios’ What If…? animated series is an enjoyably ridiculous, twisty whodunnit revolving around Shield boss Nick Fury as he tries to work out who exactly is taking out his Avengers Initiative candidates before they’ve had a chance to join the team.
At first, the episode seems to be pondering what would have happened if most of the Og Avengers (minus Captain America) were murdered pre-Battle of New York, but we later find out that the actual “what if?” here is “what would have happened if Hope van Dyne had joined Shield and died in the line of duty?”
If you’re a regular Den of Geek reader, you’ll probably know by now that our What If…? reviews are adopting a different format. More of a breakdown that we hope will satisfy die-hard Marvel fans but also help...

Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo have boarded Joe Carnahan’s police drama “Copshop,” with filming set to start in Georgia and New Mexico in October.
“Copshop” will be set at a small-town police station that becomes the unlikely battleground between Butler’s professional hitman, a smart rookie female cop and a double-crossing con man played by Grillo, who seeks refuge behind bars with no place left to run.
Kurt McLeod wrote the original screenplay based on a story he created with Mark Williams. Carnahan penned the most recent draft. Williams and Tai Duncan of Zero Gravity Management are producing the film alongside Warren Goz and Eric Gold of Sculptor Media, Butler and Alan Siegel’s G-Base Productions, and Carnahan and Grillo through their WarParty Films production banner. Executive producers are James Masciello, Matthew Sidari and Tom Ortenberg for Open Road Films.
Open Road Films will release the movie theatrically in the U.

With the notable exception of a couple of Phase One missteps like Terrence Howard’s Rhodey and Edward Norton’s Bruce Banner, Marvel Studios have generally been right on the money when it comes to casting in their shared universe, from the marquee superheroes right down to the minor supporting players.
However, the sprawling nature of the franchise means that there have been plenty of characters over the years that fans would love to see more of, but they’ve never been given the chance despite the almost limitless crossover potential of the McU. One name that seemed tailor-made for his role in the long-running comic book series was Frank Grillo, who appeared in two Captain America movies and Avengers: Endgame but was never afforded the opportunity to show what he could really bring to the table as either Brock Rumlow or his costumed alter-ego Crossbones.

Black Widow will be set in the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, we know that much, with Natasha Romanoff laying low and reuniting with her old Russian family after becoming a fugitive of the law thanks to helping Steve Rogers in the Sokovia Accords conflict. Looking at the evidence, though, it’s possible that the movie could draw more directly from Civil War‘s plot than we’re expecting, as it may solve a mystery that’s gone unanswered in the McU all these years.
Let’s think back to the opening sequence of that 2016 team-up film. It begins with the Avengers battling Crossbones in Lagos, Nigeria, with the mercenary attempting to steal a dangerous biological agent from the Institute of Infectious Diseases. Though he didn’t get away with the sample, Crossbones’ switch to suicide bomber resulted in a significant loss of life. This incident then became the impetus for the Sokovia Accords.

The idea of a miniatures game is so simple that you’d have thought it would have been done by now, wouldn’t you? Whilst there are numerous games that use Marvel characters in miniaturised form, and even some that have the kind of combat that characterises this genre, Crisis Protocol is the first “proper” miniatures game to use the license. Crisis Protocol is such an accomplished design that the company that designed it – Atomic Mass Games – was actually acquired by Asmodee prior to the launch of the game.
Even though Crisis Protocol has only been out for about three or four months, there are already a string of expansions beginning to land, but today I’ll focus solely on the base game. In the core set, players receive ten miniatures including popular members of both The Avengers and their nemeses, The Cabal. Models include Captain Marvel, Captain America, Iron Man,...

There’s an oft-used phrase in the comic book industry, which declares that, in a universe teeming with costumed crusaders and larger-than-life villains, no one really dies… save for Uncle Ben and Bruce Wayne’s parents. And even that’s not set in stone.
So when McU Cosmic relays news of a potential second coming (or should that be third?) for Brock Rumlow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (last seen in Avengers: Endgame), we’re inclined to stand up and take notice.
On this week’s edition of McU CosmicCast, Jeremy Conrad hinted that Marvel Studios is openly discussing the possibility of Frank Grillo reprising the role of Crossbones in the not-so-distant future. Conrad goes on to stipulate that said return may well align with the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, given the sequel’s promise of alternate realities. It would certainly pave the way for...
