Bear — who most recently played for the Vancouver Canucks — previously spoke out to condemn racism in 2021 after dealing with racist comments himself while on the Edmonton Oilers after the team was swept from the playoffs.
The athlete spoke to Et Canada’s Carlos Bustamante as part of our special for National Truth and Reconciliation Day, sharing, “That was still to this day one of the hardest things I had to do… I just feel like if I think about myself back then, like, I wouldn’t want to do something like that alone.

“Northern Touch”, arguably the most important Canadian rap song of all time, turns 25 this year.
To mark the occasion, The Black Academy’s 2023 Legacy Awards, which took place last night at History in Toronto, closed the show with a tribute to the iconic track. The song’s original artists — Kardinal Offishall, Red1 of Rascalz, Choclair and Thrust — introduced a new crop of Canadian rappers — Taaylee G, Tamir, Ysn Fab and Zach Zoya — to perform their take on the 1998 rap anthem.
Eventually, the OGs even joined the young emcees to finish the song. Check out the performance below.

”I feel like I’m very much in the beginning of my work.”
In Mirza’s semi-autobiographical film, Kaur plays queer Muslim grad student Azra, who returns to her ancestral home in Pakistan after the death of her father. While she clashes with her traditional mother, Mariam (Nimra Bucha), who insists she play the role of perfect grieving daughter, flashbacks to Mariam’s own life in Karachi 30 years earlier demonstrate the connections that unite mother and daughter — particularly in their shared adoration of Bollywood star Sharmila Tagore.
Kaur, best known for playing Bela in “The Sex Lives of College Girls” stars in the directorial debut of Fawzia Mirza, an expansion of her 2012 short film of the same name.

Twain admitted, “It’s kind of cool. You know, being with other celebrities, there is a commonality or a parallel in our lives, obviously, that we, you know, the similar struggles of balancing work and art and just all the obvious things that we know.
“So, that is nice. Yeah, I do enjoy that. You feel understood when you’re with another celebrity, you know, you really feel understood. You get it without saying a lot,” she added.

Back in 2019, Chris Jericho emerged with a new pro-wrestling persona dubbed Painmaker, a deranged and violent character inspired by serial killers that he debuted for New Japan Pro Wrestling.
In a recent interview with Et Canada’s Carlos Bustamante, Jericho reveals that he’s reviving Painmaker for an in-ring return in the Aew, as well as a new comic book series, which he’d like to see form the basis of a new superhero-style movie.
At the time he came up with Painmaker, the Canadian wrestling icon was looking for yet another way to reinvent himself. “I was like, it needs to be something darker than [my WWE persona]. And I thought like, what would a serial killer look like if he was a pro wrestler?” he recalled of the character, who wore a leather jacket adorned with spikes and creepy makeup inspired by iconic shock-rocker Alice Cooper.

The singer and Little Mix member, who just released her first-ever solo single “Don’t Say Love”, reveals that although she supports whatever her children want to do in the future, she doesn’t want them to face the racism she’s faced.
“I want them to do whatever makes them happy,” Pinnock, 31, told Et Canada’s Carlos Bustamante about her twins, whom she and husband André Gray welcomed in August 2021.
“And one thing that I’m going to teach them is that they can do anything,” she continued. “I was lucky to be brought up knowing that nothing will ever hold you back. No matter what you face, like, whether it’s racism, whatever it is, you can do it. You can do this. And you’re not going to let...

This new Marvel villain is complicated.
Et Canada’s Carlos Bustamante recently sat down with “Secret Invasion” star Kinglsey Ben-Adir about playing the villain Gravik in the Disney+ series.
Gravik is the leader of a radical Skrull faction invading Earth to seize the planet’s resources, but the actor doesn’t agree that he’s the coolest MCU antagonist so far.
“So false. I don’t I don’t want to call him ‘cool.’ Cool was something I was trying to stay away from,” he said, adding, “But if he’s coming across as cool, no judgment.”

Leigh-Anne Pinnock is opening up about dropping her first solo single “Don’t Say Love” after being a member of Little Mix for over a decade.
Pinnock chatted to Et Canada’s Carlos Bustamante about being a perfectionist and whether she sees that as more of a gift or a curse.
The musician shared, “A bit of both, to be honest. Like, it’s actually quite annoying sometimes because to me… it might not seem good enough, but then somebody else is like, ‘What are you talking about? This is great.’
“I sometimes feel like I can get in my head. And I think that’s quite natural… I don’t know. It’s such a journey for me. Like I’ve… when I was in the group, I lost so much confidence. And I had this feeling of like, I felt overlooked and undervalued for a very long time.

“We tend to be hard on ourselves when we’re young, really hard on ourselves… ‘why aren’t I here at the moment where I should be? Why don’t I make enough money? Why aren’t people respecting me the way I need to be?...

Vanessa Williams has plenty of advice she’d give her younger self, knowing how far she’s come since being crowned Miss America back in 1984.
Williams gained recognition after becoming the first African-American woman to receive the Miss America title 40 years ago, with her reflecting on the honour while chatting to Et Canada’s Carlos Bustamante.
Williams shared of what she’d tell her younger self, who was 20 at the time, to prepare her for what was to come: “I had no idea I would become internationally famous overnight, for sure. I didn’t realize the scope of responsibility that I would have at 20 years old. And I would tell myself not to take everything personally.
“When you’re 20 years old and you’re just being yourself and people say, ‘Well, we hate you because you’re black, we hate you because you’re not black enough, we hate you because you’re not Southern.
