David Gordon Green, the filmmaker behind Universal’s Halloween trilogy and The Exorcist: Believer, is leaving horror behind to direct a family drama starring Ben Stiller about a man connecting with his unruly nephews after a tragic accident claims their parents’ lives. The feature-length project is a hard left turn at Albuquerque for Green, who’s spent most of his recent filmmaker career bringing Halloween’s Michael Myers and William Peter Blatty’s Exorcist back to the horror fold. Is Green leaving horror for good, or is Nutcrackers a breath of fresh air before he returns to the bloody and brutal genre?
On Wednesday, Rivulet Films, Rough House Pictures, and Red Hour Films announced that Linda Cardellini, Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker, and Toby Huss have joined Ben Stiller in the film based on a script by Leland Douglas.

A follow-up to the 130M-plus grossing movie Law Abiding Citizen is happening with producer Lucas Foster and screenwriter Kurt Wimmer returning, as well as Gerard Butler and his G-Base partner Alan Siegel reprising their roles as producers.
The storyline is being kept secrets. The first movie starred Butler and Jamie Foxx and was directed by F. Gary Gray, and followed assistant district attorney Nick Rice’s (Foxx) pursuit of Clyde Shelton (Butler), a frustrated father who implements an elaborate and twisted plan to bring down the entire judicial system in Philadelphia after a plea bargain sets free the man who murdered his wife and daughter. The pic in December on Netflix became one of the top three most viewed movies alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds’ Red Notice and Sandra Bullock’s The Unforgivable.
Rivulet Films’ Rob Paris and Mike Witherill are producing alongside Foster and Wimmer. Foster will produce under his Warp Films banner.

They move to New York and end up with rival restaurants directly across the street from one another. The brothers stop at nothing to be the best on the block, ratcheting up the competition to the delight of their neighbors who are treated to bizarrely spectacular light shows, dueling Santas, and seemingly endless plates of delicious and comforting food. The Rules of Fight Club. Do talk about this indie feautre. For his feature debut, first time director Knate Gwaltney choose a storyline that is more outrageous than everything he might have produced for the numerous series: Jackass films and television items included. Production has begun on SpeakEasy Films’ Radio Caroline documentary about the 1960s rebel broadcaster that set up offshore in defiance of the UK government’s radio monopoly.
Joe Mundo, Jamie Talbot and Mike Witherill are producing the film and Witherill is financing through his Mjw Pictures.
The production will use feature previously unseen images from the time and rare concert performances from rock icons and is set to open in 2014 to coincide with Radio Caroline’s 50th birthday. Hans Fjellestad directs.
”Radio Caroline is about the dramatic changing of an era and the music that powered it,” said Fjellestad. “This is exactly the kind of story I love to dig into and put up on the screen.”
“This film is very much about the music, but it’s also filled with fascinating and eccentric characters. These guys launched some of the most iconic bands in the world during a very repressive time,” added Mundo.

Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American distribution rights to Joe Swanberg's "Drinking Buddies," which premiered last week at the SXSW Film Festival. The prolific Swanberg's latest feature marks a notable change of pace for the filmmaker, as it's his first feature to include major stars. Olivia Wilde and Anna Kendrick star in the romantic comedy, which also features performances by Ron Livingston and Jake Johnson. The movie revolves around a pair of co-workers at brewery whose hidden attractions for one another eventually stir up drama with their significant others. The film recently won Best Ensemble in Indiewire's Criticwire poll at the festival. Reviewing the film at the festival, Indiewire's Eric Kohn gave it an A- and wrote that "while most of Swanberg's preceding features have amounted to sketches, the latest is a full-bodied achievement." The movie currently holds an A- average on Criticwire. "Drinking Buddies" was executive produced by Mike Witherill,...
