With more than 40 shows under her belt this year, electronic music artist Aluna Francis had one aim for Miami-based music festival III Points: to reconnect with her Black, queer fanbase. An hour before stepping on stage Saturday, she stopped to snap pictures, give hugs and later invited the Edm enthusiasts backstage as she cooed over a thunderous bass line.
“Connecting the Black ravers with a meet-up seems like a small thing, but today it’ll be everything to me,” Francis tells Rolling Stone from a III Points lounge. “Because the...

Aluna is feeling glamorous, and she has every reason to. On July 7, the musician who makes up one-half of the electronic duo AlunaGeorge will release her second studio album MYCELiUM. It arrives nearly three years after her solo debut Renaissance — it was, at least in its title, ahead of its time. Aluna has released a scattered collection of singles over the past year, but for the announcement of her album, she assembled a dream team of collaborators to help preview the record on “Oh the Glamour.”

The All My Friends festival, which is scheduled for August 18 and 19 in Los Angeles, announced its lineup today (May 22) with an imaginative spoof of the “Golden Girls” theme.
Playing off of the “thank you for being a friend” theme (sung by Anna Lunoe), headliners Rl Grime, Gucci Mane, M.I.A. and Jhene Aiko, Jamie Xx and Armand Van Helden are revealed in type that would usually list featured actors. The clip also includes cameos by Anna Lunoe, Jason Bentley, Wax Motif, Chris Lake, Justin Martin, Chris Lorenzo, Deux Twins and Destructo, aka Gary Richards, the festival’s curator and an executive at LiveStyle.
The event takes place adjacent to downtown L.A.’s Arts District at Row Dtla, a creative space and shopping area. It will feature three stages.
Following the recent cancellation of Fyf Festival (reportedly due to low ticket sales), Amf may be the only major music event to take place in L.

To celebrate a successful summer, Felix Jaehn has released a new video for his hit single “Bonfire” with Alma. Released a few months ago, the track was eventually certified gold in Germany and now Scottish producer Chris Lake has delivered his own interpretation of the tune. Lake’s flip of “Bonfire” is used as the backdrop for Jaehn’s new video, which recaps his prolific touring schedule over the last several months.
Chris Lake’s “Bonfire” remix contrasts the tropical original with a heavier sound, opening with offbeat piano chords and light percussion layered under Alma’s soulful vocal delivery. After an intense build up, the track moves into beefed up drops with a catchy horn melody over undeniably mainstage friendly beats.

If the buzz is any indicator, Edm is on its way out – but anyone who attended the 2016 edition of Electric Daisy Carnival (Edc) Las Vegas last weekend would likely tell you otherwise. Insomniac Events organized a magnificent 20th anniversary celebration for its flagship festival, going to great lengths to ensure that those in attendance would look back on the landmark event with a special fondness.
After all, there were quite a few of them to witness what took place. Edc 20’s organizers reported that three-day attendance broke the 400,000 mark for the second time in the festival’s history, although it took two months longer for this year’s edition of the festival to sell out than that of last year. The festival nearly came to a close with zero reported fatalities for the first time in three years, but...

There aren’t a great many artists big enough to help the top grossing nightclub in the world celebrate its seventh anniversary. Dropping tracks both old and new, as well as an ID, it was an hour of perfection, as Joel put on a showcase that only left us wanting more.

Scottish house music mainstay Chris Lake made a spirited return to the respectable side of the genre in 2015 that was so celebrated by his fans that he doesn’t appear eager to run along back to the main stage in 2016.
Following the warm reception of such tastefully experimental tracks as “Chest” and “Stomper,” he’s kicked off the new year with a remix of M-22’s “Good To Be Loved” that injects the radio-friendly track with a delightful measure of obscurity.
To be sure, the first several measures of the remix don’t see much of a departure from the feel of the original. However, after around a minute, stutter edits to the vocal sample underscored by a warm, melodic bass line give the track a definitive groove that lathers up into the sort of frothing cacophony that sends a cellar full of dance music snobs into a frenzy.

The last few months have boasted a fair amount of impressive album releases from various artists populating the Edm scene. From up-and-coming sensation Porter Robinson’s spellbinding debut Worlds, and deadmau5’s epic While (1<2), some of the most lauded names in the industry are peppering store shelves and iTunes carts with fresh new releases. Today, another of EDMs heavy-hitters joins the party, as raft-riding and cake-tossing DJ Steve Aoki’s sophomore studio album, Neon Future, sees its release.
It’s tough to build flow in an album when there are only 10 songs, but when you factor in that Neon Future, Aoki’s second foray into the more commercial studio album game, features an ambitious intro and outro track (cutting the total track length to a paltry eight), the task becomes that much more difficult.
