Though Scandal wrapped up its seven-season run years ago, the show left us with one too many memorable moments. First there was Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) love life, which was all over the place, and saw her juggle tenderness towards Fitzgerald Grant ( Tony Goldwyn) with periodical affection for Jake Ballard (Scott Foley). Then there was her complicated relationship with Mellie (Bellamy Young), and her most prized possession: Olivia Pope and Associates (Opa). Second to Olivia Pope’s memory-worthy life was the thorn in her rose, Rowan Pope (Joe Morton). Through the seasons, he was not only a pain she had to

Whiskey Cavalier star Scott Foley has joined Fox’s ballet-centric dramedy pilot The Big Leap — but you shouldn’t expect to see him in tights anytime soon.
Inspired by a U.K. format, The Big Leap centers on a group of diverse underdogs from all different walks of life who attempt to be part of a competition reality series that is putting on a modern, hip remake of Swan Lake. “What they lack in the traditional dancer body type,” the logline reads, “they make up for with their edge, wit and desire to reimagine an iconic story to fit their own mold.

Scott Foley knows who he’d pick if he had to choose between his old flame from “Scandal” or his new will-they-won’t-they love interest on “Whiskey Cavalier” — and the answer might surprise you.
“Both completely emotionally unavailable women. God, they’re like different bites of the same apple,” Foley told TheWrap of his on-screen love interests Olivia Pope and Frankie Trowbridge.
Despite the fact that Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) chose Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) over Foley’s character Jake Ballard in the final season of “Scandal” — and that Foley’s Will Chase character has a slow-burning, will-they-won’t-they potential romance going with Frankie Trowbridge (Lauren Cohan) on his current show “Whiskey Cavalier” — he’s going with his gut on this one.

With news that Geena Davis will reprise her role on “Grey’s Anatomy” before the season’s over, TheWrap takes a look back at other stars with roles on the longstanding medical drama.
Kyle Chandler
Honestly, who could forget Coach Taylor’s appearance on “Grey’s Anatomy” as bomb squad leader Dylan Young? Chandler appeared in Seasons 2 and 3 — he guested on “Grey’s” the same year that “Friday Night Lights” debuted on NBC.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Long before he was wielding a bat in the apocalypse, Jeffrey Dean Morgan played one of “Grey’s Anatomy”‘s most tragic and beloved figures. Denny Duquette was the love interest to Izzy Stevens (Katherine Heigl) in Season 2, and their relationship inspired the interns to perform a questionable procedure on Denny’s heart.
Scott Foley
Shondaland fans will recognize this face from another ABC drama. But before he played the sexy Jake Ballard on “Scandal,” Foley played Henry Burton, a dying patient without insurance who Teddy (Kim Raver) ends up marrying so he could have surgery.
Sarah Paulson
The “American Crime Story” star plays Meredith’s mother Dr. Ellis Grey in a flashback episode in Season 6, “The Time Warp.” The episode reveals more about Ellis’ relationship with Dr. Richard Webber.
Faye Dunaway
The “Network” star had a guest spot in Season 5 of “Grey’s Anatomy” as Dr. Margaret Campbell, one of the original surgeons at the hospital who comes back to help with a surgery.
Demi Lovato
The pop star made an appearance on “Grey’s Anatomy” during her “Sonny With A Chance” days as Hayley May in a guest role during Season 6.
Mandy Moore
Now one of the stars of “This Is Us,” Mandy Moore guest-starred in one of the most-talked about episodes in “Grey’s” history. She played a pregnant patient in the active shooter episodes in Season 6.
Elizabeth Moss
The “Mad Men” star had a guest role in Season 3 of “Grey’s” as Nina Rogerson, the daughter of a patient.
Zach Gilford
Kyle Chandler isn’t the only “Friday Night Lights” alum to make an appearance on the ABC medical drama. Zach Gilford popped up in Season 5 as a soldier trying to get in healthy enough condition to return to the field.
Leslie Odom, Jr.
The “Hamilton” star, Grammy winner and Tony nominee made an appearance on the silver screen way back in Season 5. He played P.J. Walling, a participant in a domino surgery.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Over a Cliff,” the series finale of “Scandal.”
While “Scandal” fans said goodbye to Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and the rest of the gladiators during the season finale Thursday night, there was one character whose goodbye was literal — suffering a gruesome ending before the final credits rolled.
David Rosen, portrayed by Joshua Malina for the show’s seven-season run, was deceived, poisoned, and ultimately suffocated to death by underhanded vice president Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry). David’s death came a few scenes after he convinced Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) not to shoot him, catching the audience off-guard.
Malina said when he first saw that he had a missed call about discussing the series-ender from creator Shonda Rhimes, he went through multiple scenarios in his mind. “Maybe it’s because Shonda’s got more work for me,” he tells Variety he jokingly thought.

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read ahead unless you have seen the “Scandal” series finale that aired on Thursday.)
“Scandal” wrapped its seven-season run on Thursday night with a final episode that packed in fierce outfits, killer monologues and the most tragic death in the history of the series (Rip David Rosen). It also gave us a Shonda Rhimes’ cliffhanger that probably made more than one Gladiator knock over their glass of red wine in shock.
And we’re sure if you saw the finale you already know we’re talking about that “Yas Queen!”-enducing painting of Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) two young girls see hanging in the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. You know, something that suggests she eventually becomes President Of The United States.

Following the episode, Rhimes, Washington and the rest of the cast sat down on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to discuss the ending, and of course that moment came up.
When the late-night host asked Washington what she thinks the portrait is doing there, she nervously answered: “Gosh, I really want Shonda to answer this question. Because even in the script it’s written that we don’t know exactly why.”
Rhimes jumped in to say: “It says the audience is left not knowing.” But, of course, the showrunner revealed she actually knows what’s up, adding, “I get one last thing to say as a spoiler that I’m going to hold onto for the rest of my life.”

Well, that sounds par for the course for, Rhimes.
However, that’s Ok, because Scott Foley, who plays Liv’s sometimes lover (other times brother) Jake Ballard, told TheWrap in an interview last week that the seventh and final season of “Scandal” would come to a close with an ending he wants you to make your own. And we’re 99.9 percent sure that portrait of Olivia is what he was referencing.
“Now there is one thing that is sort of ambiguous at the very end of the show and it’s going to leave people questioning, ‘Did this happen? Did that happen? I don’t quite get it.’ And I think it’s important to make it your own,” Foley said of the episode — titled, “Over a Cliff.” “And there’s going to be questions and disagreements and ‘It couldn’t be. Here’s why’ or ‘It has to be. Here’s why.'”

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers to the series finale of ABC’s Scandal.
Last May, when ABC announced this season would be Scandal‘s last, Shonda Rhimes promised to go “all out” with “white hats on, gladiators running full speed over the cliff.”
Here’s how it went.
The final episode, fittingly called “Over the Cliff,” starts with special prosecutor Lonnie Mencken wanting to make sure if he gets Olivia Pope the Senate hearing she seeks as part of her image rehab, Potus Mellie Grant will make gun control a priority.
Lonnie previously had agreed to work with Creepy Veep Cyrus to impeach Mellie because he lost his son during a mass-shooting at a mall and holds President Grant’s “love of guns” against her.
“Yes, I can promise you gun control will move to the top of the agenda,” Olivia stage-whispers.
Lonnie pulls out a gun; Olivia naturally asks what he’s doing.

Unless this was your first time watching Scandal — in which case, “Yum, yum, Crispy Piggy!” — you probably entered Thursday’s finale with a finite set of questions. We sure did.
Just like the half-dozen finales that preceded it, Thursday’s series ender promised all the trappings of Shondaland, from game-changing revelations to at least one shocking death. And while we didn’t get everything we wanted — the fact that Cyrus Beene still breathes is proof of that — the episode kept up its end of the bargain, more or less.

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read ahead unless you have watched through last week’s episode of “Scandal.”)
“Scandal” truly has seen it all. Characters having a sibling-like relationship with their lovers. Top secret spy agencies that operates outside the bounds of the federal government, with the sole purpose of protecting the Republic. And more out-of-the-box ways of committing murder than you could shake a wine glass at.
And ahead of the seventh and final season finale tonight, TheWrap asked Scott Foley, Bellamy Young and Cornelius Smith Jr. — three of Shonda Rhimes’ Gladiators — what exactly was the weirdest thing they did on the series. And we got some some weird answers.
The first comes courtesy of Foley, who plays Jake Ballard, a member of that top secret spy agency B613 and Olivia’s on-again, off-again lover.

“God there is so many things, between being in the hole and getting beaten up by Charlie,” Foley said, noting things that happened to him directly because of his involvement in B613. “But, by the way, the weirdest thing, if I can just say it, was the beginning of Jake’s storyline where he was told to spy and then sleep with Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington). It was the most bizarre, perverted, weird — especially because [her father] Rowan (Joe Morton) was behind it — incestuous little thing happening there [laughs],” Foley added. “And then to continue for five seasons like, ‘Oh it wasn’t that big a deal. I stalked you and then had an affair. But now we’re cool. And Fitz is my best friend.’ If you break it down and simplify it like that, it doesn’t make any sense. But in the context of the show, for whatever reason, it works.”
Also Read: 'Scandal' Star Bellamy Young Just Got an Email That Said 'Everything Is Changed' in New Series Finale Cut
Young has been with the series since Day 1 as Mellie Grant, who moved from being a first lady with a cheating husband to the first female Potus — who is now good friends with her ex. But her weirdest moment didn’t arrive until this seventh and final season, when being the commander in chief got in the way of her love life. In an episode directed by Tony Goldwyn (who plays her ex-husband Fitz), no less.
“‘My vagina is beautiful, it is welcoming,’ that whole scene I was like, ‘My mother watches this show. I’m not sure I can say that.’ [laughs],” Young said. “But it turned out great. And our sweet Tony directed it, so to make him blush time and time again was fun. But Shonda knows. We learned early on, even if you’re like ‘Eh, I don’t know’ — she’s right, so just enjoy it. Say it and enjoy it and let it land.”
And what about Smith, who since joining the cast as Marcus Walker in Season 4 has moved from the offices of Olivia Pope & Associates to the White House and now to Fitz’s side as he explores his legacy after the presidency? Yeah, he’s still seen more than his fair share of strange situations dreamed up by Rhimes in that time.

“I haven’t done anything crazy just because of the nature of my storyline and Marcus being kind of in Opa and the White House,” Smith said. “He’s not out here killing folks. He’s not running through the woods. He’s not B613. There hasn’t been anything crazy or shocking until maybe after the fact. No, not for me. But I’ve watched people do things that looked uncomfortable.”
“I know when Guillermo (Diaz) shot the stuff in the water with the car,” Smith said, referencing the episode in which Diaz’s Huck had to think fast to save himself from drowning in a trunk, with a little help from his imaginary friends. “And that’s something where I thought, ‘Only one time,’ [laughs]. Only one time you’re gonna get me in a pool. In a trunk. With water. Talking to a pretend Opa.'”

The “Scandal” series finale airs tonight at 10/9 c on ABC.

(Spoiler alert: Do not read ahead unless you have watched through last Thursday’s episode of “Scandal”)
All the white hats are about to come off when Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and her associates sit down to testify to their worst crimes on the “Scandal” series finale, titled “Over a Cliff,” Thursday.
If you believe they were ever on to begin with, that is. And Shondaland executive producer Betsy Beers believes they were. Or at least thinks they didn’t need to be on at all times? It’s all very “crazily ambiguous” here.
When TheWrap spoke with Beers ahead of Shonda Rhimes’ politically-driven drama’s final bow, we first asked her to weigh in on Scott Foley’s, who plays Jake Ballard, comments to us about the last episode having an “ambiguous” moment — to which Beers literally said you just need to tune in.

“I think the best thing I can say to anybody is just watch the finale, and enjoy the finale, because it’s a really good finale,” Beers said. “It’s really satisfying. It’s emotional. It’s fun. I think Shonda did an amazing job delivering what I consider to be an incredibly satisfying finale for seven seasons of what I would call a real roller coaster ride for characters. I think there are a number of things in it that are surprising and I’m sure people will be discussing and questioning back and forth for weeks to come. But all I can tell you is just watch it.”
Now, while we were digging more to see if Beers could speak to what happy endings might look like for Pope & Associates (oh, the answer to that is “no, I don’t think I really can”), she took issue with the use of “not good people” as a descriptor for the characters.
“I don’t think that they’re not good people,” Beers said. “I think these are people who have all been faced with large and very difficult decisions and choices that they’ve made over the course of a long period of time. And different people have made different choices. I think what I find really appealing about the show is that these are flawed humans. And when they’ve made some of these choices that might have been the best choice in the moment or it might have been the best choice for the greater good … I don’t know in some cases — I might not have agreed with what they did, but I could always identify with the dilemma that they were in.”

“One of the things I love best about this show is that every season I would identify with somebody totally different,” Beers continued. “And sometimes it would be a character like Huck (Guillermo Diaz), who you thought that you knew. And then you watch ‘Seven Fifty-Two,’ the episode in which you get to know why Huck is like Huck. And I couldn’t blame Huck for anything after that. And I think I’ve sort of gone through that with each character. So the bottom line is that I think what you will find in the finale is it’s satisfying in a lot of different ways. How’s that for crazily ambiguous for you?”
Yeah, that was arguably more vague than what Foley said. Just like the morality of Liv, Fitz (Tony Goldwyn), Mellie (Bellamy Young), Cyrus (Jeff Perry) and practically every other member of “Scandal”s core group.
“They’re not good guys or bad guys — they’re just guys,” Beers added. “I think you watch a show wanting it to be one or the other … I think one of the things I love most about my job and working here and getting to develop shows and working with Shonda and the other writers, I think one of the great things about the show is nobody is ever bad or good. People are people and they’re surprising. And very often you’ll meet somebody on one of our shows and you’ll think they’re bad, but you’ll find out there is this heart and a soul there.”

“The more you get to know somebody, the more complicated and three-dimensional they are,” Beers said. “And over the course of seven seasons of ‘Scandal,’ these are characters who have been exposed to and confronted by and immersed in a world which is really complicated, and a lot of it has to do with the question of ‘How would you react in a situation where there is a lot at stake?’ And it’s uncomfortable to sit and say ‘I can identify with that.’ It’s scary, which I get. But it’s also why I keep watching, because I want to see what the hell they are doing next.”
You can see what the hell the “Scandal” characters are doing next — for the last time — when the series finale airs Thursday at 10/9 c on ABC.

(Spoiler alert: Do not read ahead unless you’ve watched through last week’s penultimate episode of “Scandal”)
Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) will — presumably — handle things for the last time when she and almost every other major character on “Scandal” sit down to testify to their worst crimes when the finale airs on Thursday.
But before you head into the episode ready to follow Shonda Rhimes and her chosen ending over a cliff, you should know she might be hanging you off it.
Scott Foley, who plays Liv’s sometimes lover (other times brother) Jake Ballard, told TheWrap in an interview last week that the seventh and final season of “Scandal” will come to a close with an ending that ties up almost all the loose ends. But one stray kernel of the story might keep you guessing long after the credits roll.

“But I think it’s important for the viewer, when that happens, and they see the moment that I’m talking about, to make it personal to them. And I know this is sounding very ethereal, and forgive me for that. But there is an opportunity there for it to have whatever you want it to have,” he added.

Ok, trying desperately to ignore the ambiguity for a minute, we can say Foley says they did a “fantastic job” with the last episode as a whole.
“And I think you’ll agree once you see the finale that all these storylines are wrapped up in such a way that you, or I felt, at least, with regards to every character, ‘Ok that makes sense,'” he assured us.
You know what? Let’s do this. Over a cliff, right?

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read ahead unless you have watched through last week’s episode of “Scandal”)
The Shonda Rhimes-created love triangle between Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), Jake Ballard (Scott Foley), and Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) has been a cornerstone conflict at the center of “Scandal,” albeit a very sexy one.
So when the series finale airs Thursday, one of the biggest questions fans will be asking is ‘will Liv stand in the sun with Jake or go make jam in Vermont with Fitz?’ (Look, you either get that reference or you shouldn’t be reading this article).
And while Team Fitz seems to be pulling ahead at the moment, as he did just sleep with Ms. Pope and Jake is working against pretty much everyone but Cyrus (Jeff Perry) at this point, Foley tells TheWrap it doesn’t ultimately matter to him which guy wins out.

“Look do I personally care? I don’t care,” Foley said. “I’m a fan of the show, but I’m a fan of the show because I like the show. I’m not a character-driven watcher, if that makes sense. I love character-driven shows, but I don’t fall on one side or the other. I’m not a ‘she should be with him or she should be with him’ person.”
Ok, fair enough. But, Foley does have a very logical answer to the question if he has to give one.
“Look, if I’m gonna take Jake’s side on this, Vermont gets cold for Christ’s sake! Go to the sun! What are you doing?!? They were on an island!” Foley laughed, referencing the time Jake and Liv literally escaped to go stand in the sun together. “It was beautiful. You wanna leave and make jam? Give me a break! Let’s go kayaking in the ocean. Pull a coconut off a tree. That would be my choice, personally, not just because I play Jake. Don’t get me wrong, I like Vermont. It’s beautiful. Let’s have some maple syrup and go skiing. But give me an island somewhere where nobody else is on it, except the woman I love and let’s have babies and drink a bunch of stuff,” he added.

Foley makes some valid points. And, all joking aside, he gets why you care so much, as the triangle has “to a certain degree, driven this fanbase.”
“There are those for and those against, whether it be Jake or Fitz,” Foley said. “The relationship with Olivia, it has been a very powerful motivator for viewers. And people get into it. And I think that’s amazing and ultimately good for television, you know? When you can root for a character or group, it benefits the show and it benefits you as a viewer because you are invested.”
Now, when it comes to who is going to be happy and who is going to be sobbing into their wine glasses when we find out how things wrap up, Foley said the ending as a whole (which he himself said has some ambiguity to it) is what should please everyone.

“I think that people will be — depending on what side of the line you fall, whether you are a Jake or Fitz fan, I think people will be very satisfied — not just with the ending in the story, but I think the ‘Scandal’ ending overall,” Foley said. “I remember being at the table read and it was something we were all really looking forward to and anxious about, wondering ‘Is anyone gonna die? Are they gonna stand in the sun? Are they gonna go to Vermont? Is Mellie gonna be president? What the hell is gonna happen?’ But it was, I think, not just for me, but the entire cast, a very satisfying ending.”
“We know Shonda Rhimes, and know that this isn’t going to be a dust your hands off and walk away and say, ‘Well that was nice,’ kind of ending. It’s complicated. And she gave us the ending I think the show deserved.”

“Scandal” is known for being … scandalous (duh), but the show wouldn’t have its notoriety for being so without its shady characters. So we’ve got the definitive ranking of how shady all the main characters of “Scandal” really are.
Eli Pope
Poppa Pope Is Shady Af!!!
There’s really nothing we can say that will exemplify how shady Eli Pope is. Combine all the manipulative characters into one and you’d probably get a third of how truly twisted Daddy Pope is.
Other than being the head of B613 for over 20 years (as if that doesn’t mess you up for life enough), he’s just a very mean person.
Cyrus Beene
If it wasn’t for Olivia’s dad taking the cake, Cyrus would probably be right up there as the shadiest character.
As innocent as he looks, there’s honestly very little we can trust about him. Cyrus will literally do whatever it takes to get what he wants — like have his own husband killed (although thankfully that was stopped at the last minute).
Abby Whelan
Abby definitely has her shady moments, she isn’t the worst of the bunch — rather no where close.
Although she’s stolen some things and manipulated certain situations, its Abby’s persistence that gets her what she wants.
Mellie Grant
We have a love-hate relationship with Mellie. At first, we hated her but honestly how can you hate a woman scorned?!
She’s dealt with her husband’s affair in such a civil and professional manner, but of course we can’t forget that she did so in order to advance her own political agenda.
Let’s not get it twisted, Mellie cannot be trusted but we can definitely have a drink with her and an impromptu dance party without worrying about her killing us.
Olivia Pope
Do we really have to break this one down at all? Ok, fine.
The only thing that differentiate’s Olivia from her dad is her humanity. Yes, Olivia is a “gladiator,” and helps people fix things, but let’s not get it twisted … in the process of “fixing” things she does some pretty questionable things.
She’s not entirely evil, but she’s like the manipulative best friend. You don’t know if she’s coming to your wedding bearing gifts or to dismantle your marriage.
Fitz Grant
We don’t really know how we feel about Fitz.
He mostly seems to be in la la land and oblivious about all the dirty things going on around him and when he finds out, he’s upset but doesn’t really do much about them.
Oh, we almost forgot — he’s an adulterer-er. Anyways, Fitz isn’t a very shady person at all. The worst thing he probably did was put an entire country in danger and go to war over his mistress, but hey, which one of us wouldn’t?
Huck
Oh sweet, angry, adorable, animalistic Huck. We feel sorry for Huck and absolve him of all his shady crimes.
He got turned into the person he is because of B613 and Olivia’s dad, but Huck is one loyal friend.
He only gets his hands dirty for the people he loves and cares deeply about, so he’s good in our book.
Jake Ballard
Jake … he is the definition of shady. This dude got introduced to us as a sweet, handsome, caring, gentle and just all-around good guy and then we find out it was all part of a game plan.
As if that part didn’t bring back traumatic memories of men we’ve dated in the past, Jake just continues to be untrustworthy.
We never know if his actions are genuine or influenced by Olivia’s dad. At least one thing we can be sure of — his love for Olivia.
Quinn Perkins
Well you had us fooled, Quinn!!! If that’s even your real name — which it isn’t.
It was a mistake to have her train with Huck because in a moment’s time she became just like him. But she’s a little shadier than Huck.
David Rosen
So David is one of the few people that actually is as kind as he comes off.
He’s the Attorney General, so naturally he tries to do the right thing even if it does mean exposing Olivia Pope and her little shenanigans, but once in a blue moon he will dibble and dabble on the dark side.
But it’s never really for his benefit, mostly just to save face and protect his friends.

While Olivia and her renewed allies at Qpa spent Thursday’s Scandal doing their best to save Mellie’s presidency, Marcus (and Fitz by proxy) made it his mission to save her soul.
“Dark, desperate and capable of going to be a place she can’t come back from” was how Marcus described the president during a concerned chat with Fitz, suggesting that the former Potus still seems “haunted” and “tormented” by his days in office. “You survived the Oval, but don’t you think Mellie deserves better than that?”
This inspired Fitz to give his old office a ring...

Thursday’s Scandal found Olivia Pope returning to her White Hat roots, while her former Minions focused on that whole “Who hijacked Air Force Two?” debacle. (Spoiler alert: As we already knew, it was Cyrus. It’s. Always. Cyrus.)

Well, we didn't see any of that coming. Although, we probably should have.
On Scandal Season 7 Episode 13, Cyrus's plane was hijacked on the way to a digital piracy summit, putting the lives of everyone on board in danger. The plane lost all contact with ground ops making it harder for the White House to find a solution.
As the plane spontaneously diverted back to D.C, Mellie realized the hijacking wasn't a kidnapping; it was an attack on the Republic.
Would they shoot the plane down? Would they rescue Cyrus, sweet, innocent David and all the civilians on board?
The show is always playing a high-stakes game, but no episode has been this suspenseful and twisted.
We know Jake Ballard is a shady man with access to the Nsa and B613. It would have been effortless to pull all of this off. In fact, the minute it happened, all eyes turned to Ballard.

Spoiler Alert!! Do not read if you haven't watched Thursday's season seven premiere of Scandal!
This is Olivia Pope's world, and we're all just living in it.
Scandal started its final season with a bang on Thursday night -- in more ways than one.
Within the first five minutes of the premiere, Olivia was back in bed with Jake Ballard, but despite their second round in the sheets, our favorite White House Chief of Staff made it clear that the romantic relationship was just for the sake of convenience.

Scandal is synonymous with twists and sexiness, but Scott Foley is happy that his character, Jake Ballard, hasn’t been involved in many romantic flings this season — which allows him a reprieve from dieting.

But now that he has revealed even more about himself and the fact that he was the one who blew up the cabin in the season 6 premiere, it looks like Jake is actually in the right and the times he seemed like the bad guy are not as much of a mystery anymore.

Poor Jake Ballard. Once upon a time I liked him on Scandal and thought he was a good guy, but now it's clear that he's just a broken pawn. This week the show uses flashbacks to reveal how an innocent young boy named Pete Harris became Jake Ballard. His real father was an abusive monster, and so is his surrogate dad Rowan.

Early in last week's episode of "Scandal," Scott Foley's spy Jake Ballard finally lost his patience with the show's main character (and his ex-girlfriend), D.C. fixer Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington). He compared her to a plague, and asked, "How does someone as brilliant and accomplished as you not know what you are? Who you are?" It was a dynamite scene, in a "Scandal" season that's been full of them. It's fantastic each time. "Scandal" is a fundamentally melodramatic show, where...
