With the the success of HBO's Watchmen at the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, it seems apparent that superhero shows Can win awards.
For the longest time, the Academy has refused to recognize shows of the superhero genre, no matter how outstanding and critically relevant they are.
Yes, from time to time, a superhero show will receive an award for its stunts, costumes, or special effects, but rarely do we see an acting, writing, or directing award nomination for any of these shows, even when there are people deserving of the accolades.
Every year, the Emmys announce their nominations and the average person says "huh?"
While many of the nominated shows are worthy of recognition for their work, a majority of them are series that do not have a big following.
This is thanks to the ever-growing number of streaming services and the Academy's recent tendency to lean towards cable instead of network television.

If you’re excited about “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” but need a “Breaking Bad” refresher or you have been living under a rock and have never seen the AMC series before, don’t worry. Aaron Paul‘s got you, bitch.
The erstwhile Jesse Pinkman recapped the entire plot of the five-season Emmy-winning series on Wednesday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in just two and a half minutes (watch above). And it is pure perfection. He covers everything you need to know: Walt (Bryan Cranston) has cancer; “we cook meth in a Winnebago”; “I say ‘bitch’ a lot”; Walt Jr. (Rj Mitte) really likes breakfast; they kill some people “with science”; “I fall in love with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter)”; “Walt hires a lawyer named Saul (Bob Odenkirk), who gets his own show where he works at a Cinnabon.”

Kevin Feige’s promised that the future of Marvel is dedicated to diversification and representation, and so far the plans for Phase 4 have reflected that. There’s clearly an increase in both female and non-white leads, for example, and we’re hearing that the next few years could also bring the McU‘s first ever transgender hero, who may appear in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Sources close to We Got This Covered – the same ones who told us a Nova movie was in active development, which McU Cosmic has now confirmed – say that Taika Waititi’s next Thor pic could include the character Sera, a trans hero who’s an angel from the Marvel comics universe. And the studio is supposedly eyeing Laverne Cox to play the part. We’ve been informed that the fan favorite Orange is the New Black star is one name on the wishlist for the role,...

It’s been almost a year now since the Daredevil Netflix show was officially canceled, which has proven to be more than enough time for most fans to accept that the decision to axe Matt Murdock’s TV series isn’t going to be reversed anytime soon. But while the social media backlash to last November’s news isn’t as intense as it once was, the #SaveDaredevil movement continues to let their outrage be heard, and has even found a surprising new supporter in one Tom Hiddleston.
The Loki actor recently starred opposite Daredevil actor Charlie Cox in a Broadway adaptation of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal. Perhaps their collaboration has made Hiddleston more sympathetic to the cause, because in a new video shared by the official #SaveDaredevil Twitter account, the star of the upcoming Loki show can be seen turning to the camera to utter the simple slogan, “Save Daredevil.

Major spoilers ahead for Warner Bros. new film, “Joker.”
Director Todd Phillips’ “Joker” depicts the gradual unraveling of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a troubled man who, through some very disturbing circumstances, breaks bad and transforms into the criminal who will one day become Batman’s greatest enemy.
While existing entirely on it’s own as a standalone story and unconnected to any other DC Comics films, “Joker” presents a possible origin story for the clown prince of crime connected both to the Gotham City setting and to the history of Batman as a character. In fact, it’s the second time a film has gone out of its way to connect the Joker’s origins to the Caped Crusader in some fashion, after 1989’s Tim Burton-directed “Batman,” which revealed that as a younger man, the Joker is the one who killed Bruce Wayne’s parents.

Disney is no longer accepting Netflix ads on most of its entertainment networks, the latest in a string of news about the entertainment giant breaking off its relationships with its competitors as the launch of Disney+ draws near.
The Disney-owned ABC, Freeform, and FX are among the networks that will not run commercials from Netflix, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. While Disney’s statement was typical corporate-speak—”We reevaluated our strategy to reflect the comprehensive business relationships we have with many of these companies”—it was telling nonetheless. Disney believes that Netflix will be in direct competition with Disney+, and giving their competitor publicity simply isn’t worth the ad revenue.
A Disney spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. A Netflix spokesperson declined to comment.
Although Disney’s ESPN will still accept Netflix advertising, Netflix does not have a major stake in sports programming.

A new season of “Tell Me A Story” is creeping upon us.
The trailer for Season 2 was released at New York Comic-Con Thursday, and it puts a dark twist on the three princesses of “Sleeping Beauty,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Cinderella.”
Premiering Dec. 5 on CBS All Access, the new 10-episode season features Natalie Alyn Lind as pop star Ashley Rose Pruitt in a reimagined version of “Beauty and the Beast.” Her career goes to pieces after a fiery explosion burns half of her face — which she then covers up with a mask, “Phantom of the Opera”-style. Watch the trailer above.
Paul Wesley (“The Vampire Diaries”) is returning for Season 2, this time starring as Tucker Reed, a struggling writer with insomnia and a creepy habit of watching people sleep in a revamped version of “Sleeping Beauty.”

Fans haven’t given up hope that the Defenders could return in the McU following Netflix’s cancellation of all five of their Marvel TV shows. Marvel Studios can’t touch the characters for at least two years from now, but it seems that they do have plans to make use of these popular heroes once that time has elapsed. And it’s possible that the likes of Daredevil and Jessica Jones could be brought into the movies to boot. Complete with the original actors.
We Got This Covered’s hearing that Marvel wants Krysten Ritter back as Jessica in future McU films. It’s too early for this to be set in stone just yet, of course, but sources – the same ones who said Jonah Hill was starring in The Batman – have told us that they hope to get the Defenders into the movies if they can work things out.

Netflix senior vice president of originals Allie Goss is leaving the streaming service after more than 13 years.
Deadline first reported the news of Goss’ departure, and a network insider confirmed that report’s accuracy to TheWrap.
Goss’ exit is due to an organizational change in structure under Channing Dungey, who joined the company in February as vice president of originals, splitting the role with fellow originals vice president Cindy Holland. Goss, who has been among the longest tenured programming executives at Netflix, will step down this week.

Out of the Marvel TV shows that were abruptly cancelled on Netflix, the general consensus is that Iron Fist was the weakest. Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Jessica Jones and The Defenders all had their fair share of highlights despite being hugely inconsistent across the board, but the adventures of Danny Rand just never seemed to click with audiences.
It didn’t help that Finn Jones wasn’t particularly engaging or charismatic as the title character, or that the fight scenes were incredibly disappointing for one of Marvel’s most famous hand-to-hand combatants, but with the Marvel Cinematic Universe on a path of rapid expansion both on the big screen and on TV, it seems as if no recognizable superheroes are going to be left by the wayside.

Preacher, on paper, seemed like a television pitch that didn’t have a prayer. The fact that Sunday night marked the end of the fourth and final season of the AMC series from executive producers Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) and Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg would qualify as a miracle if the show’s brimstone scent and penchant for the profane didn’t disqualify it from general competition.

We’ve got two new pieces of poster art and a photo to share with you today for Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian. The first poster features The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal), former Imperial Stormtrooper Cara Dune (Gina Carano), the droid Ig-11 (Taika Waititi), and an Ugnaught riding on a Dewback. Judging by the twin suns, this is meant to be set on the planet of Tatooine. The second poster just includes a badass shot to The Mandalorian.
Below the posters, you’ll find a photo from inside of the cockpit of The Mandalorian’s ship, which is called the Razor Crest. I also included some information on that ship.
Below you find the image of The Razor Crest:
Star Wars fans will be happy to learn that the Razor Crest was built as a practical model, and is not CGI, just like the ships in the original trilogy. According to StarWars.

Deborah Chow will be the director who ushers Ewan McGregor back into the Jedi Universe to resume his portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi on the new Lucasfilm series planned for the Disney+ subscription streaming service.
Chow’s credits include Jessica Jones, Mr. Robot, American Gods, Better Call Saul, and Lost in Space, but Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said it was Chow’s recent labors on the upcoming The Mandalorian that helped seal the deal for her Obi-Wan undertaking.
“We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga,” Kennedy said. “Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I’m absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story.”
Chow will also be an executive producer on the series along with Kennedy, McGregor, series writer Hossein Amini, Tracey Seaward (The Queen), and John Swartz (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). Jason McGatlin, Lucasfilm’s Executive Vice President for Production, will serve as co-producer.
The Mandalorian premieres Nov. 12 when Disney+ launches as a game-changing new entity for the entertainment giant. No final title or release date has been announced for the Obi-Wan series. Chow is repped by Wme.

The director, who already helmed part of Jon Favreau’s “The Mandalorian” series, has been tapped so sit in the director’s for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series which will see Ewan McGregor reprise his role as the iconic jedi master.

Lucasfilm has hired the first director to helm their upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series and that director is Deborah Chow. She directed an episode of The Mandalorian along with episodes of American Gods, Better Call Saul, Lost in Space, Jessica Jones, Reign and Mr. Robot.
Obviously Lucasfilm has enjoyed working with her and they want her back to tell some more stories in the Galaxy far far away. Ewan McGregor is also set to return to reprise his role, which a lot of fans are extremely excited about. It’s not clear of Chow will direct the entire series, which is said to be six or eight episodes or just part of the series.

Deborah Chow will remain in a galaxy far, far away for Disney+. The director, who helmed multiple episodes of “The Mandalorian,” has been tapped to direct Disney+’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
The untitled series, which starts shooting next year, will see Ewan McGregor return as the Jedi Master, who last appeared in the 2005 film, “Revenge of the Sith.” It is set eight years after the events of “Revenge of the Sith.” The actor played a younger version of Kenobi in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy that began with 1999’s “The Phantom Menace.” The character was previously portrayed by Alec Guinness in the original “Star Wars” trilogy.

As Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige builds out his own TV universe spawned from the “Avengers” films, Marvel’s dedicated television unit is seeing its live-action world contract.
Feige’s division — part of the Walt Disney Studios feature-film operation — is currently working on multiple shows for the nascent streamer Disney Plus centered on Marvel Cinematic Universe characters like Falcon and Winter Soldier, as well as Loki, and Vision and Scarlet Witch, with shows based on She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight also in the works. Meanwhile, with Hulu having this week killed a planned series based on the character Ghost Rider, Marvel Television — the division of Marvel Entertainment responsible for the comic-book publisher’s initial push into live-action TV under Disney ownership — now has few announced live-action projects on the air or in the works.

The inter-company rivalry between Marvel Studios and Marvel Television continues to fascinate me. Now, with news circulating that Marvel Television won’t be proceeding with their Gabriel Luna-starring Ghost Rider show, insiders are chalking it up to yet another casualty of behind-the-scenes drama between the two Marvel limbs. Theoretically, the two companies should work in harmony, with the idea being that Marvel Studios focuses on big screen McU adventures, while Television spearheads McU TV like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the now-cancelled Netflix shows.
What eventually transpired though were series about Marvel superheroes that were nominally set in the same universe as the movies, and which occasionally made a vague reference to the Battle of New York, but were for the most part entirely separate. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, the Punisher and Iron Fist never stood a chance of making it into any big screen movie, and their isolation...

Marvel TV fans were left devastated last November when Netflix pulled the plug on Daredevil after three seasons, following the cancellations of both Iron Fist and Luke Cage to boot. As all three shows were arguably getting better and better and were still just as popular with viewers, it was hard to unpick the reason for why Matt Murdock and pals had been cut down in their prime.
Reports have followed, though, that have made plain that it was a more of a corporate decision than anything else. There was some speculation that it could’ve been a mutual move from both parties, but Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb has now confirmed that he had no say in the situation and it was entirely Netflix’s doing that the shows ended when they did.

Late last year, Netflix broke Marvel fans’ hearts by cancelling three of their McU TV shows. Namely, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil. At the moment, The Punisher and Jessica Jones are still standing, but it’s surely only a matter of time before they join their fellow Defenders on the TV scrapheap.
Still, given that the reason for the cancellations seems to be corporate-related more than to do with their popularity, fans haven’t lost hope that maybe these characters could still return. It seems Marvel Television president Jeph Loeb feels the same way, too.
While speaking at the TCA winter press tour, the producer went so far as to say that he wouldn’t be surprised if any of the cancelled shows “reemerged.” He did warn that the situation surrounding the series was complicated, though, and their continuation would rely on numerous factors. If you recognize the titular character in Bruce!!! it's probably because Eden Marryshow has popped up in many of your favourite television shows, including Jessica Jones, The Blacklist, Nurse Jackie and others. Now in his feature film directorial debut, Marryshow takes on the role of Bruce, an egocentric, self-professed writer, director, artist and playboy who damages all of his relationships as he cons his way through his self-obsessed existence with a mixture of swagger and deeply insecure neuroticism. One can't help but wonder if Marryshow has turned the camera's on himself as he explores the character through his film but, suffice it to say, through an all new con to recruit a roommate that can pay the lion's share of his rent, Bruce no doubt...

We’re nearly seven years into the modern TV superhero-drama boom, which began with the CW’s Arrow. In those early days, when Oliver Queen was running around without a mask and only being called “the vigilante,” there was a sense that the people adapting comic books for the small screen felt they had to hold viewers’ hands through the whole concept.

Yesterday, Hulu and Marvel announced they’d closed a deal for the streaming platform to produce four adult animated shows about various Marvel characters. But according to Hulu’s senior vice president of originals, Craig Erwich, animated series aren’t the only Marvel projects the platform is looking to snap up.
“Marvel has a ton of titles we’d be interested in,” he told The Wrap after being asked if Hulu would look at reviving the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe (McU) TV series recently cancelled by Netflix. Hulu already produces one live-action Marvel series: The Runaways is about a group of teens whose parents are supervillains and debuted on the streaming platform in 2017.
“It kind of just depends on when they’re ready,” Erwich added.
For those not in the know, there’s a tangled web of relationships at play here. Marvel is owned by Disney. Disney previously had a...

Though Jessica Jones still has a third season to come, it’s long been assumed that the Krysten Ritter-led series and its fellow Marvel/Netflix show The Punisher are living on borrowed time after Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil all got the axe in quick succession last year.
What’s more, the end time prophecies for the Marvel/Netflix era became all the more believable earlier today when it was reported that the Disney-owned Marvel will be partnering with Hulu – a platform that’s also partially owned by Disney – to work on four adult animated shows, including a Howard the Duck series co-written by Kevin Smith. From the look of things, the Mouse House is continuing to distance itself from Netflix as it lays the groundwork for their own platform, Disney Plus, which is set to launch later this year.

With its partnership with Netflix winding down, Marvel TV is taking its characters to Hulu, signing a hefty deal for multiple animated series, including “Howard the Duck.”
The agreement will see Marvel TV produce four adult animated series — “Howard the Duck,” “M.O.D.O.K..” “Hit-Monkey” and “Tigra & Dazzler” — that will culminate in a crossover special, “The Offenders.” The four series are being written and executive produced by the likes of Patton Oswalt, Kevin Smith, Chelsea Handler, and the “Blades of Glory” directing team of Josh Gordon and Will Speck.
The deal comes as Marvel’s parent company Disney is about to assume 60 percent control of Hulu as part of its deal with 21st Century Fox.
“Howard the Duck” is being written by Smith and David Willis, who co-created Adult Swim’s popular animated series “Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

The shows will be based on the following Marvel characters: Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Monkey, and Tigra and Dazzler. Things between Marvel TV and Netflix may be winding down, but Hulu and its Disney-owned corporate cousin are just getting started it seems.
In a deal quite reminiscent of the accord struck between the Reed Hastings-run streamer and Disney back in 2013 for four new series and The Defenders team-up limited series, Hulu and Marvel today unveiled four new original adult animated series and a The Offenders team-up special.
As a third season of the Schwartz and Stephanie Savage created Marvel’s Runaways seems a sure bet, Hulu is hoping to strongly up its Marvel game and to resurrect the reputation of the acerbic Howard The Duck, who got plucked in that terrible 1986 feature film, as part of its big programming chess move. The Htd series based on the cigar chomping character first introduced in the comics in 1973 will be stewarded by Clerks kingpin Kevin Smith, along with Dave Willis.

Exclusive: ABC has opted not to proceed with a pilot order to its Marvel drama from Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg. The project, about female characters with superpowers, had a big pilot production commitment.
It is unclear whether the untitled hourlong drama from Heinberg, Marvel Television and ABC Studios, will be redeveloped.
In typical Marvel fashion, details about the drama were kept close to the vest, but it is believed to be based on lesser-known Marvel characters. There have been a number of fairly obscure female superhero team-ups that have appeared sporadically in Marvel comics over the years, including A-Force, Lady Liberators and Fearless Defenders.
Heinberg, who is under an overall deal at ABC Studios, is executive producing the potential series with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb.

On Monday, FX gave an official series order for the adaptation of the iconic “Y: The Last Man,” marking the end of a long journey to the screen. There’s a lot to unpack in that announcement: In addition to providing the network a top-notch slice of sci-fi IP, Brian K. I can’t wait to see how Jon Favreau’s Star Wars series The Mandalorian turns out! I think I’m more excited about this series than I am for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX, especially with the directing talent that has been brought on board.
One of the directors, Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), recently talked about The Mandalorian, which is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order and follows “a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
The filmmaker confirmed that the series would match the tone of the original trilogy, but also explains that his style and tone will be felt in the series as well. He explained to the press at a recent TCA panel for his What We Do In the Shadows TV series:

Nowadays, we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to superhero TV. There’s generally a whole bunch of both Marvel and DC TV series on air at all times, with just about all of them enjoying critical acclaim and ardent fanbases. But which show could be crowned the most popular amongst viewers in 2018? Well, in a result that’s both a little surprising but also not, the facts say that The Flash nabs the top spot.
ScreenRant spoke to Parrot Analytics, a data science company that measures audience’s interest in television content by assessing brand engagement online. What was already an impressive cast list for the upcoming Zombieland 2 now has one more noteworthy addition in the form of Rosario Dawson, with Deadline reporting that the 25th Hour star is set to join the likes of Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin for the long-awaited follow-up to 2009’s Zombieland.
Though Dawson already has a rich and eventful filmography under her belt, from Sin City to Trance, Marvel fans may know her best these days for playing Claire Temple in the Netflix shows Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, The Defenders and Iron Fist. Exclusive: Rosario Dawson is set to join Zombieland 2, the next installment of the Sony Pictures post-apocalyptic zombie comedy that will feature original stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin. Ruben Fleischer returns to direct the sequel fresh off of the blockbuster success of Venom.
Written by original Zombieland scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the sequel centers on the comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland.
