Viola Davis is backing away from “G20” in a move that may put pressure on other A-listers.
The Egot winner says she’s stepping away from the project even after the film got the SAG-AFTRA interim agreement necessary to start production.
“I love this movie, but I do not feel that it would be appropriate for this production to move forward during the strike,” said the 57-year-old in a statement obtained by Et. “I appreciate that the producers on the project agree with this decision. JuVee Productions and I stand in solidarity with actors, SAG/AFTRA and the WGA.”
On Friday, SAG-AFTRA shared via its website that “G20” was approved for a waiver. Davis was set to produce and star in the film that secured the go-ahead from the actors guild, even given the involvement of Amazon Studios, because the project hails from the non AMPTP-affiliated MRC and will only be distributed by Amazon.

Exclusive: In a move that might well set a precedent for other A-listers, G20 star Viola Davis has become the first to publicly back away from a project for the duration of the actors and writers strikes, even after the film got the SAG-AFTRA interim agreement necessary to start production.

News of the move on Davis’ part comes one day after an unconfirmed report in The Sun that Brad Pitt has paused production on his Formula One film for Apple, in solidarity with strikers, also stepping away from a title called Apex.

Daisy Ridley is moving on from her star-making role as Rey in the recent Star Wars films, having permanently put away her lightsaber with this past December’s Sequel Trilogy closer, The Rise of Skywalker. Consequently, Ridley’s would-be first role after that wild franchise ride could show her in different form, as a psychological profiler in a dark crime drama.
Talks have commenced with studio Stx for Ridley to star in The Ice Beneath Her, an adaptation of Swedish author Camilla Grebe’s 2016 crime novel of the same name, reports Deadline. Should the deal be finalized, then Ridley would be working for the trio of directors—collectively known as Radio Silence—consisting of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella, who are coming off the hit 2019 comedic horror film, Ready or Not. They will work off an adaptation script by Caitlin Parrish, also joined by producer Andrew Lazar (American Sniper...

Daisy Ridley is in talks to star in the psychological thriller “The Ice Beneath Her” that STX has acquired in a bidding war and will finance, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella — the filmmaker trio collective known as Radio Silence behind the 2019 thriller “Ready or Not” — will direct and produce.
“The Ice Beneath Her” is based on a 2015 novel by Swedish author Camilla Grebe, who made her solo, English-language debut with the book. Caitlin Parrish, a writer and producer on “Supergirl” and “The Red Line,” will write the screenplay adaptation.
The story follows a criminal profiler brought in to help solve a murder case that bares a resemblance to a previously unsolved murder from 10 years earlier. She’s tasked with tracking the charismatic, playboy CEO of a store chain who has mysteriously gone missing. But she’ll soon cross paths...

For all that broadcast TV’s power has attenuated in recent years, what they choose to put on still means something — and, from a certain point of view, something more than the choices made by prestige outlets. After all, the reach of broadcasters is without parallel. They’re simply in that many more homes than prestige cablers and streamers, even as their peak audience (or even their audience five years ago) seems unattainable now.
Which makes it important and worth noting when a network makes a choice more ambitious than the mix of family comedies and procedurals that still performs well enough. The Red Line, a new drama premiering April 28th on CBS, explores the aftermath of a white cop shooting an unarmed black man in Chicago. Named for the North-South line of the Chicago “L” (or elevated train system), a route that connects two wildly different parts of the city, the show centers on three families — that of the victim, that of the officer and that of an aspiring city politician — as they contend with the fallout. CBS and CBS All Access took their turns at the winter Television Critics Assn. press tour on Wednesday. Only two panels were devoted to new upcoming shows — including Super Bowl leadout competition show “World’s Best” and limited series “The Red Line” — while the rest featured returning series (including “Star Trek: Discovery”) teasing what’s yet to come.
Here are six things we learned from day 2 of TCA.
1. “The Red Line” Wants to Be “‘Parenthood’ Meets ‘The Wire'”
One of CBS’ upcoming new midseason shows is “The Red Line,” a limited series (named for Chicago’s red metro line) about the devastating aftermath of a police officer shooting an unarmed black doctor, produced in part by Ava Duvernay, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter. “I think by telling those incredibly emotional, human stories there is a very unique window through which we can examine larger institutions,” said executive producer Caitlin Parrish.

CBS’ upcoming event series, “The Red Line,” starts with the shooting of an African-American doctor by a Caucasian Chicago police officer after a convenience story robbery, but the conversation the show aims to start, per the producers, extends beyond race.
“There are two Americas living side by side and many different privileges and justices exist depending on the side,” co-creator Caitlin Parrish said at the CBS Television Critics Assn. press tour panel for the show Wednesday.
The goal of the show, added co-creator Erica Weiss, is to bring to life a “cultural conversation through the lens of an emotional family drama.” To that end, they created a show “about characters and their personal choices,” but, Weiss was quick to add, that those individuals and their choices also provide an “engine” for important conversations about institutions and systems, including the police force and politicians.

Magnum P.I. is officially returning to CBS. The network has picked up the reboot of the classic 1980s show, one of four drama pilots to get series orders by the network today, along with God Friended Me and the Noah Wyle starrer The Red Line. They join Dick Wolf’s F.B.I. and The Code.
Two of the new series, God Friended Me and The Red Line, come from Warner Bros. TV-based Berlanti Prods. in the company’s return to CBS after launching Supergirl there.
The new Magnum P.I., starring Jay Hernandez in the title role played by Tom Selleck in the original, was the big frontrunner among CBS’ drama pilots this season. It will mark the third consecutive reboot by Peter Lenkov to successfully land on the CBS schedule, joining Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver.

When DC fans hear the term “Trinity,” they tend to think of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, the three characters who’ve long been the publisher’s cornerstones in a variety of media. Or, if you’re an Arrowverse diehard, the likes of Green Arrow, the Flash and Supergirl may hold a similar place in your heart.
The reason we’re bringing this up is because the May 7 episode of Supergirl actually happens to be titled “Trinity,” but it’s not going to yield what one would necessarily expect. Rather, it has everything to do with those dastardly Worldkillers, as this newly released synopsis tells us the following:
Supergirl Takes On All Three Worldkillers – Still reeling after learning about Lena’s (Katie McGrath) secret, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) asks Guardian (Mehcad Brooks) for a favor that could alter his relationship with Lena forever. Meanwhile, with all three Worldkillers united, Supergirl and...

The 2018 pilot season is shaping up to be a landmark year for women behind the camera.
Female creators and directors saw gains virtually across the board, as networks ramp up efforts to include more women in the pilot process. As Variety previously reported, the Time’s Up and Me Too movements have played important roles this season, with the networks all looking for ways to increase female representation.
According to multiple TV literary agents who spoke with Variety, there was a clear shift within the networks this year to increase the number of women behind the camera, particularly in the director’s chair. One source also noted that the studios exerted “immense pressure” to increase the number of female directors this season.
ABC has 13 female creators on 9 of their 23 pilots this year, up from 9 creators in 2017. Of those, five are comedies, including originals from Liz Meriwether and J.J. Philbin, Diablo Cody,...

Even though we have what appears to be an awesome crossover in the form of “Crisis on Earth-x” to look forward to next week, the reality of the situation is that the bulk of whatever plots unfolding across each of the Arrowverse‘s individual shows will have to be put on hold for the time being. This doubly builds anticipation for their reprisals, especially when you consider the cliffhangers that both Supergirl and The Flash left us on this week.
Well, expect some major payoff throughout the first full week of December when The CW airs midseason finales for its DC TV shows. First on the block is Supergirl, which will see Samantha finally and reluctantly emerge as this year’s big bad, that being Reign, in the episode appropriately titled, um, “Reign.”

With the next “super season” set to commence in just under three weeks, it’s only understandable that The CW pulls out all the stops in order to assure that viewers come back for another helping. And usually when we’re that close to any specific episode airing, synopses are bound to surface online, effectively bringing some minor spoilers along with them. In this case, that rule applies to fan favorites Supergirl and The Flash.
First, let’s talk about Supergirl, since that particular show will be the first from the Arrowverse to make its fall debut. In “Girl of Steel,” we’ll see the titular heroine face the existential crisis we’ve been expecting ever since the first footage from season 3 was shown at San Diego Comic-Con back in July. Still, we don’t expect her to be down in the dumps for too long since more recent promos...

On last night’s episode of Supergirl, “Resist,” Rhea’s endgame finally started to come to fruition as the survivors of Daxam’s destruction launched a full-scale attack on Earth-38. For the most part, the Girl of Steel and some of her closest allies – Cadmus included – did a fine job of holding their ground, but an unexpected appearance by none other than Superman may throw a wrench into their plans.
We’ve known that Big Blue was set to return in the season finale for some time now, but his cameo at the end of the penultimate episode likely came as a shock to many, doubly so because he’s aligned himself with Rhea. This development will spill over into next week as the trailer at the top so kindly displays, but we’re guessing that Kal-El is under some sort of mind control.

Thankfully, tonight will mark the end of the month-long hiatus that Supergirl fans have been forced to endure. And aside from beginning the sprint leading toward a season finale that’ll include the likes of Superman and General Zod, it looks like Kara will give this reporter thing another go.
In the first of two clips we have to present today, Kara and Lena Luthor run in to the latter’s ex-boyfriend, played by Rahul Kohli (iZombie), at an event. Shortly thereafter, our heroine is confronted by a nervous man who has some secretive news to share with her, and happens to have “I’m going to be mysteriously shot in a parking lot” written all over him. What that may specifically be remains to be seen.
The second bit of footage looks like it probably precedes the first chronologically and also involves Kara and Lena, albeit in a more lighthearted setting.

Sneak Peek footage, plus images from the "Supergirl" episode "Ace Reporter", written by Paula Yoo, Caitlin Parrish and directed by Armen V. Kevorkian, airing April 24, 2017 on The CW:
"...'Jack Spheer' (Rahul Kohli), the ex-boyfriend of 'Lena' (Katie McGarth) comes to 'National City' to unveil his big breakthrough in nano-technology, which has the potential to eradicate all diseases.
"Lena asks 'Kara' (Melissa Benoist) to attend Jack's conference with her for support. When Kara sees 'Snapper' (Ian Gomez) in attendance she's inspired to tap back into her reporter skills and questions Jack on his discovery, which ultimately leads to a bigger investigation that puts everyone in danger..."

Maybe it’s just me, but the hiatus we’re currently enduring when it comes to DC TV shows may very well be the most difficult to bear when you consider that the season finales are within reaching distance. Fortunately, we have a few nuggets of information to present while you pass the time, specifically the official descriptions for Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow’s returning episodes.
First, let’s talk Supergirl because it’ll be the first of the bunch to air. In this particular offering, iZombie’s Rahul Kohli drops by (hey, his show is based on a Vertigo comic, so he’s allowed to play somebody else), and pays a visit to his ex-girlfriend – Lena Luthor. If anything, the trailer embedded at the top hints that he’s not to be trusted, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Chicago – The actualities that define adolescence are always prime for new territory in drama, and that is what the Chicago-based film “The View from Tall” accomplishes. Co-directed by Erica Weiss and Caitlin Parrish, it will be screened at the Midwest Independent Film Festival on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017 (details below).
The story centers on Justine (Amanda Drinkall), a highly intelligent high school senior who feels like an outsider in her insular adolescent community. Her rebellion was a consensual relationship with a teacher, and the subsequent problems when the situation is exposed has the teacher exiled, and places Justine in therapy. Her facilitator is Douglas (Michael Patrick Thornton), a wheelchair bound therapist who frees her thoughts and reactions. Their intimacy evokes feelings that neither one of them expect, which raises the suspicions of Justine’s sister Paula (Carolyn Braver).

From what we can tell, next Monday’s instalment of Supergirl, the appropriately titled “Homecoming,” is something the series has been building to since its earliest of episodes. After all, Dean Cain’s Jeremiah Danvers has inarguably been a very key character, regardless of the fact that he pops up sporadically.
While the images seen at the top paint a most jovial picture and show this to be a joyous occasion for the Danvers family, the trailer leads us to believe otherwise. It stands to reason that after being in the clutches of the sinister Cadmus organization for so long that Jeremiah would’ve undergone some Re-Neducation as it were. Therefore, I’m half-expecting to see him betray his most beloved.
No matter the outcome of this episode, I do hope that Cain is available to come back later in the season knowing that his former...
