The film industry has lost its exclusivity. Now, what we have is a mammoth entertainment industry. And the film trade is just a part of this industry. The way the equations are changing, filmmaking, distributing and exhibition may end up becoming the smaller part of the entertainment industry.
That is not to say that film production will suffer. Far from it, production activity will only mushroom. What producers will be making will be called ‘Content’. Because, whenever they plan a project, Ott platforms will remain important for them. And the content will come in various forms: episodic serialisation or web series, feature-length films, shorts, and so on.
So, many aspiring filmmakers who could not even dream of making a feature film, now do the same but call it ‘content’.
Can you imagine that once upon a time, cinema owners in towns considered any other means of entertainment around them to...

Whether it may be being part of an insane psychologically-charged drama or a packed-to-the-walls action film with none other than Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson can be said to have developed an iron heart and mind to take on challenges that might look crazy to many. But contrary to even she may have believed, watching Austin Butler act may have proven too much even for her.
Rebecca Ferguson in a still from Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation
In a recent interview, the actress was asked about all the on-set details of her upcoming film Dune: Part Two, including what other stars on set were like to witness while shooting for the film. Ferguson was quick to bring Butler into the conversation, claiming that she was downright scared of him when he was in character during the filming process.

Mumbai, Nov 19 (Ians) Even as Team India finds itself locked in a nail-biting battle of wills against Australia, diehard fans of Rohit Sharma & Co are turning to Kabir Khan’s Ranvir Singh-starrer ’83’ for solace. After all, back in 1983, Kapil’s Devils had put up an eminently beatable score of 183 in their surprise appearance at Lord’s in the Odi Cricket World Cup final against the then cricket superpower West Indies, yet they came home with the prized trophy.
Pan to Ahmedabad 2023, where we just saw the Australians mount an asphyxiating bowling attack on Team India, restricting them to 240 runs.
Forty years ago, as a generation learnt from ’83’, India too had lost the toss, and was asked to bat first by the West Indies, who bowled out their less-fancied rivals for 183, sending Indian fans into a sulking vortex, just like after the first innings of the ongoing Word Cup Final.

New Delhi, July 30 (Ians) Courts in India make a criminal swear by the Bhagavad Gita before he deposes in a case, or at least, that is what I have seen in films. The Gita, if one understands rightly, is the ultimate belief one can swear on to tell the truth. A criminal may still lie, but our judiciary and our films continue to repose faith in this holy book.
Since our film folk swear by the Gita, why won’t our Central Board Of Film Certification (Cbfc)? The Cbfc has passed the Hollywood film ‘Oppenheimer’ with a scene showing the lead pair indulging in sex while the male actor is shown reading from the ‘Bhagavad Gita’!
No, not Vatsyayana’s ‘Kama Sutra’, unless the Cbfc thought it is all the same!
I don’t know why the makers thought of doing this stunt, but, maybe, the Cbfc did figure it...

Sam Neill has recalled the time he and the Jurassic Park crew almost died on set.
Neill, 75, starred in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster hit, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, alongside Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern.
Writing in his recently released memoir Did I Ever Tell You This?, the actor reflected on a particularly dangerous day on set for the dinosaur film.
“We almost died in the first few weeks where we were filming on Kauai in the Hawaiian archipelago,” he writes (via People Magazine).
He continued: “One morning we were told to stay back at the hotel and expect a hurricane later in the day. I was down on the beach with Laura Dern, who asked me: ‘Sam, do you think we might die today?’

Gordon Ramsay has hit out at Alan Sugar amid the stars’ ongoing row.
In 2022, the celebrity chef launched a BBC One show titled Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars.
The news was met with criticism from Sugar, who called the series a “virtual rip-off” of his own BBC show The Apprentice.
In a new interview with The Sun, Ramsay urged Sugar to stop “b***ing” and talking “absolute bollocks”.
“He has no right to start throwing his toys out the pram,” said the Kitchen Nightmares star. “Do you think Simon Cowell started complaining about The Voice when he was running The X Factor? Of course he didn’t.”
He continued: “There is more than enough room for both shows on the BBC. Come on Alan! Share the f***ing love!”
Ramsay added that some of The Apprentice contestants are “dying to come on” his show.

Kanye West has returned to Instagram with a post stating that Jonah Hill made him “like Jewish people again”.
The rapper was banned from Twitter and Instagram in late 2022 over a number of antisemitic comments, which also saw him dropped from brand partnerships with both Adidas and Balenciaga. CAA, one of the biggest celebrity talent agencies in the US, also cut ties with the musician.
West – who legally changed his name to Ye in 2021 – posted to Instagram on Saturday (25 March).
He shared a screenshot of a movie poster from the 2012 comedy film 21 Jump Street, starring Hill and Channing Tatum as police officers who go undercover at a high school.
West accompanied the post with a caption, reading: “Watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street made me like Jewish people again.
“No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people.

Good Morning Britain star Ranvir Singh has shrugged off criticism over the age gap between herself and her partner Louis Church.
The ITV anchor has been together with Church for over two years. They met in 2020, with Church serving as a producer on Singh’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.
They have an 18-year age gap. Singh is 45; Church is approximately 27 years old.
The couple have faced criticism over the age gap in their relationship. In a new interview with Woman & Home Magazine, Singh brushed off the comments.
“I don’t see an age gap,” she told the publication, as per Huffington Post.
“What really matters in any kind of relationship in life is a synchronicity of values and emotions. I don’t know why we’re so obsessed with the age gap.
“As we are, right now, we are blissfully happy and Louis lives very much in the present.

Tributes are pouring in for Bill Turnbull after it was announced that the veteran broadcaster had died from prostate cancer on Wednesday (31 August).
The former BBC Breakfast presenter’s family confirmed on Thursday (1 September) that Turnbull had “passed away peacefully at his home” after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017.
Piers Morgan honoured Turnbull as “one of the best broadcasters in Britain” in a tribute posted on Twitter.
His tweet read: “Rip Bill Turnbull, 66. One of the best broadcasters in Britain, and such a smart, funny, warm & generous-spirited man.
“Fought his illness with typical stoicism, courage and humour. Bill made presenting live TV look so effortless, which was his great talent. Such sad news.”
Turnbull was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017, and had taken a leave of absence from his radio show Classic FM to focus on his health in October last year. However, he returned to the show last month.

“It is willful blindness and it is going to kill us.”
That’s how climate activist Miranda Whelehan described the stance of presenters like those on Good Morning Britain who, this week, literally refused to face the facts about climate change she placed before them.
Her interview with the show’s Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh struck a nerve online, with many comparing the segment to the TV interview in Don’t Look Up where Jennifer Lawrence’s character says, “We’re trying to tell you that the entire planet is about to be destroyed!” and the interviewer, played by Cate Blanchett, replies, “That’s just something we do around here, keep the bad news light!”

“Don’t Look Up” is back in the news after an April 12 interview on “Good Morning Britain” between anchor Richard Madeley and climate activist Miranda Whelehan left many viewers cringing and drawing connections to Adam McKay’s star-studded Netflix satire. Whelehan appeared on the morning news show on behalf of the Just Stop Oil activist group, but Madeley undermined her during the interview in a way many social media users found “patronizing” and “misogynistic.”
Whelehan demanded the U.K. government end all new oil licenses, exploration and consent in the North Sea. Madeley responded to her by downplaying her activism, saying, “But you’d accept, wouldn’t you, that it’s a very complicated discussion to be had, it’s a very complicated thing. And this ‘Just Stop Oil’ slogan is very playground-ish isn’t it? It’s very Vicky Pollard, quite childish.”

U.K. broadcaster ITV has commissioned Fremantle U.K. to produce a documentary film on British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently awaiting trial in a U.S. jail over her alleged involvement in the crimes of which Jeffrey Epstein was accused.
Maxwell faces trial this year on charges of sex trafficking and the abuse of underage girls, which could see her jailed for decades. She denies her involvement in the crimes.
“Ghislaine” (working title) will feature new interviews with key figures at the center of the case, including alleged victims and Ghislaine’s siblings, staff, friends, lawyers and investigators, some speaking publicly for the first time on this matter. It will be presented by Ranvir Singh.
“Ghislaine” was commissioned by ITV head of factual entertainment Sue Murphy and commissioning editor, factual entertainment, Nicola Lloyd. Executive producers are Yvonne Alexander and Fatima Salaria for Fremantle U.K., who hold international distribution rights.

It was news as usual at U.K. broadcaster ITV’s breakfast show “Good Morning Britain” on Wednesday, as former presenter Piers Morgan stood by his disbelief of Meghan Markle’s statements.
“On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, Ok. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions,” Morgan tweeted on Wednesday, adding a quote by pugnacious former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

British double Olympic gold medalist boxer Nicola Adams is set to make history by being the first contestant to be part of a female same-sex dance team on BBC’s ballroom show “Strictly Come Dancing,” the format known as “Dancing With the Stars” in many international markets. The identify of her dance partner is yet to be disclosed.
In 2019, male professional dancers Johannes Radebe and Graziano di Prima performed a routine while Emeli Sandé sang. This attracted 189 complaints from members of the public. “ ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is an inclusive show and is proud to have been able to facilitate the dance between Johannes and Graziano during the Professionals’ dance,” the BBC had stated then. “They are dancers first and foremost, and their sex had no bearing on their routine.”
“People might know me from work in the ring, but I’ll be every bit as passionate and dedicated on the dance-floor too,...

EntertainmentEven if the film had released in the states where it has run into controversy, the figure would have been nowhere close.Digital NativeThe record created by Baahubali: The Conclusion is intact! The film had netted Rs. 125 crores on day one of its release while its Hindi version had netted Rs. 41 crores. So, there were huge expectations that the magnum opus Padmaavat would break the record. Well, to all those waiting eagerly to know about the box office collections of the Deepika Padukone starrer Padmaavat, it was around Rs. 18 – 19 crores. All the negative publicity and controversies surrounding the film did not work towards its favour. The film’s release was stalled in some states like Rajasthan. Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana due to widespread protests and to maintain the law and order situation. While some maintain that the ban did affect its collections at the box office, others point out that even if the ban was lifted, Padmaavat would have managed to get around Rs. 25 crores, which is nowhere near Baahubali 2’s collections. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat went on the floors under the title Padmavati but had to be renamed Padmaavat. During the shooting, protests erupted in parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan and other northern states with the Rajput Karni Sena claiming that the film contained factual inaccuracies and that it depicted the Rajput community in poor light. Judging a breakfast show on its ratings alone is always dangerous.
Watching breakfast TV is a habit and it has to fit into our busy morning schedules, so a slight change to the format can mean that our 10-minute breakfast break with our corn flakes and the telly suddenly coincides with the weather and we'll probably switch channels or even switch off altogether.
Viewers look for familiarity, comfort and something easily digestible in the mornings. BBC Breakfast has nailed all three of these traits over the last five years and for that reason, ITV has been floundering to match them in the early morning ratings war.
GMTV had grown tired and grey, and Daybreak was an ugly explosion of colour and dreadful decisions. The channel's latest attempt to wrestle back viewers, Good Morning Britain, opened with lukewarm reviews one month ago and the ratings have been dropping ever since.
But are the problems terminal?...

ITV is reportedly planning to poach Eamonn Holmes from Sky News to become the new host of Daybreak.

The station's new director of daytime Helen Warner wants the popular presenter back on ITV in a bid to boost ratings, The Mirror reports.
Daybreak's New York correspondent Lucy Watson and Newshour host Ranvir Singh are said to be in the running to be his new co-host, but the 53-year-old wants wife Ruth Langsford on board. The pair already host This Morning on Fridays.
Daybreak launched in 2010 with Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, but the duo were axed a year later after failing to attract viewers.
