It was a clean sweep for Taylor Swift at the 2024 Gold Derby Music Awards. She came into our fourth annual event with nine nominations and walked away with nine victories including Artist of the Year for the fourth year in a row. Watch the announcement video above for winners in all categories, and scroll down for the complete list.
In the history of the GDMAs thus far, Swift is the only artist who has won Artist of the Year. She’s also the only artist who has won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. But her Album of the Year victory for “Midnights” is only her second in that race. She previously won in 2021 for “Folklore,” but Lana Del Rey claimed that honor in 2022 for “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” and Beyonce prevailed in 2023 for “Renaissance.”

When producer Judy Craymer persuaded Abba to allow her to make a musical out of their back catalogue, she never imagined the show would still be running twenty-five years later – not to mention spawn two hit movies starring Meryl Streep. Music fans can subscribe to the concert platform for as little as $11.99 per month.
There is nothing like being at a venue, crammed together with hundreds or thousands of fellow sweaty revelers, screaming the lyrics to your favorite song at the top of your lungs. Now, whether the fact that there is nothing like attending a sold-out concert is a good thing or not will clearly vary by person. However, if you love a good show, but don’t always enjoy the experience of trekking to the club or arena, paying to park, and dealing with the hoards of people, then Veeps might be right up your alley; and thanks to a recent announcement, the streamer is making it even easier to get all of the concert action you could want

Jessie Ware deserves to be a bigger star, and she knows it. “Sell out next time, Los Angeles,” the U.K. singer joked to the giddy, surprisingly multigenerational crowd at the Hollywood Palladium on Monday night, one of a few times during her hour-and-a-half-long set that she gently ribbed her audience.
No matter. The night felt like the best kind of secret party. Specifically, one taking place in an imaginary club called the Pearl circa 1979. Emerging in a billowing bright red kaftan that looked one part Donna Summer and one part Stevie Nicks, Ware leaned hard into the disco-funk of her most recent albums, 2020’s What’s Your Pleasure? and this year’s That! Feels Good!, and nodding only briefly to the elegantly restrained R&b and blue-eyed soul that she built her name on starting with 2012’s Devotion. If dance music provided much-needed comfort during the isolation of the pandemic,...

Sam (Elliot Page) has been dreading this day for weeks, maybe entire years: The young trans man is heading home for a long-delayed family visit, back to the sleepy Canadian suburb he fled years earlier, this time more fully himself than ever, even if his own flesh and blood are — at least, he suspects — loathe to fully accept him as he is. And who is he?
In “Close to You,” we eventually learn that Sam is on a delayed calendar, stunted by the years he spent struggling before his somewhat recent transition, though crisper details are harder to come by. At one point, he mentions off-handedly that he graduated high school nearly twenty years ago (Page turned 36 a few weeks after production on the film wrapped), but he’s living a life closer to that of someone who just graduated. He lives in a friend’s house, he’s finding...

When U.K. soul singer Jessie Ware reinvented herself as a disco diva for 2020’s euphoric What’s Your Pleasure?, it seemed like it might be a pandemic-induced passing fancy—like baking or Zoom happy hours. That! Feels Good!, though, doubles down on its predecessor’s mission statement, answering the titular query with an enthusiastic exclamation.
That! Feels Good! is horn-ier and, if possible, hornier, opening with a moan and a bass groove that leaves no doubt about where things are headed. “That feels good, do it again,” Ware croons on the title track. The album is more Disco than What’s Your Pleasure?, leaning into the campier strains of disco music, with only a couple of detours into post-disco terrain like “Beautiful People.”
What’s Your Pleasure? boasts a more sophisticated, diverse palette—including Italo, house, and funk—but its follow-up’s fluffier philosophy reflects Ware’s obvious elation...

Jessie Ware’s 2020 release What’s Your Pleasure was one of the early pandemic’s great revelations — a pop album that successfully brought the movement, yearning, and euphoria of the dance club into everyone’s homes. It was a perfect setting for the British singer and songwriter’s voice, luxurious and sophisticated but still highly accessible.

On an overcast afternoon in New York City, Jessie Ware is ready to close out a whirlwind 48-hour trip in the city. While having her lunch in a hotel room with huge windows overlooking the Lower East Side, she ticks off the growing list of things she will need to do in the month leading up to her album That! Feels! Good! being released: TikToks, more interviews, generally “promoting the shit out of the record.”
She’ll even find time to take her kids to Cyprus for an “inconvenient” but necessary vacation.

Bobby Caldwell, the oft-sampled, blue-eyed soul singer behind the late Seventies smash “What You Won’t Do for Love,” has died at the age of 71.
“Bobby passed away here at home,” Caldwell’s wife Mary tweeted Wednesday. “I held him tight in my arms as he left us. I am forever heartbroken. Thanks to all of you for your many prayers over the years.”
While no cause of death was provided, Caldwell had struggled with health issues over the past six years, which Mary cited as a result of an adverse reaction to fluoroquinolone antibiotic.

Robert De Niro has admitted that he doesn’t know the names of all of his dogs.
The legendary actor appeared on Jessie Ware’s Table Manners podcast on Wednesday (26 October) alongside chef Nobu Matsuhisa and film producer Meir Teper, with whom he founded the sushi restaurant Nobu.
During the interview, host Ware – who presents along with her mum Lennie – asked De Niro what his favourite dish on the menu at the restaurant was.
The actor was unable to remember the name of his top picks, saying: “There’s so many things that come up that I don’t know the names.”

The Queen is dead. King Charles has acceded to the throne. Liz Truss has resigned as prime minister. And The Snuts have a new album called Burn the Empire. Of course, the Scottish four-piece didn’t know its release date would fall somewhere between these disruptive historical events. But, at an uncertain, unstable moment for the nation, the album’s themes of frustration, fury and good old-fashioned rage against the system are about as timely as it gets.
“It felt pretty cathartic to go into the studio and start screaming all this stuff,” frontman Jack Cochrane says with a grin. We’re speaking over video call, on the same day the band are forced to cancel shows in Paris and Antwerp over Brexit-related red tape. So, as you can imagine, he’s pretty fired up. “Everybody’s super frustrated, it’s like there’s this societal breakdown,” the 26-year-old says.

Harry Styles has cancelled the first show of his residency in Chicago due to tour party illness.
The announcement was made on Thursday (6 October) by The United Center in Chicago where the “Watermelon Sugar” star was due to perform, citing an “abundance of caution”.
“Out of an abundance of caution, tonight’s Harry Styles show on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at United Center has been rescheduled to Monday, October 10, 2022 due to band/crew illness,” wrote the venue on Twitter.

However, Styles has not included any update on his own social media, leaving a question over the health of the singer himself. Given that shows will continue from 8 October, it would be hoped that any touring illness is not serious.

Shania Twain revealed one thing that you shouldn’t talk to Oprah Winfrey about on the latest episode of the “Table Manners” podcast.
Twain chatted to host Jessie Ware and her mother Lennie while eating a delicious meal with the pair.
Talk turned to a dinner that stuck out to Twain, with her explaining: “I think one of my most memorable dinners was with Oprah Winfrey. She’s such a smart lady,” People reported.
It’s unclear when the dinner took place, but the Canadian hitmaker did mention the ’90s.
Twain shared, “It was great to just sit and have real talks, but as soon as we started talking about religion, it all went sour. So, I said, ‘Let’s stop talking about religion!’ She is quite religious.”

The new album from indie-pop band Sports Team opens with a blast of pure euphoria. “Oh yeah, that’s the game,” sings frontman Alex Rice over a rush of student disco guitars. “Life’s hard but I can’t complain.”
Picked apart, the lyrics – from the group’s forthcoming second LP, Gulp! – are revealed to be rather bleak. “The Game”, the outwardly joyous first track, is a laundry of woes confronting Gen Z-ers and millennials in this age of unaffordable housing and gig economy-type zombie jobs. Yet the feeling it communicates is one of exultation and living in the moment.
It isn’t alone in that respect. As the music industry recalibrates after the pandemic, the floodgates have opened on records that revel in catharsis. Chief among them is Beyoncé’s dancefloor epic Renaissance. There is also Rina Sawayama’s Hold The Girl, out this week and featuring shiny-eyed Corrs...

Jessie Ware is a self-love championing leader in the lively music video for her latest single, “Free Yourself.” The Vicky Lawton-directed video casts the singer as a vessel for uninhibited self-expression, arriving in an attention-demanding, bold red gown to guide a collection of colorless students through finding their own boldness.
“Free yourself/ Keep on moving up that mountaintop/ Why don’t you/ Please yourself/ If it feels so good then don’t you stop,” Ware lectures as an average dining room table transforms into a runway for her newly liberated students.

Jessie Ware is entering her new era via the dancefloor. On Tuesday, the singer released her disco, house-infused single “Free Yourself,” which taps into the early-Eighties sound resurgence led by Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia.
Ware sings the track’s sexy lyrics — “Why don’t you please yourself? If it feels so good, then don’t you stop” — over an infectious, funky chorus. The track was produced by Stuart Price and Clarence Coffee, Jr., who worked with Lipa on her second LP.

Harry Styles covered one of Wet Leg’s deliriously cheeky post-punk tunes, “Wet Dream,” during an appearance on BBC Radio One’s Live Lounge.
“Wet Dream” proved to be — unsurprisingly — a perfect fit for Styles, from its uptempo pop-rock energy to the unabashedly raunchy lyrics, which the pop star delivered in his always effortlessly cool and captivating croon: “I was in your wet dream/Driving in my car/What makes you think you’re good enough/To think about me when you’re touching yourself?”

It’s Harry’s House and we’re just the king’s unworthy guests. On Thursday, Harry Styles announced a fall residency tour, which will see him make stops in major cities New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Austin, in support of his forthcoming album, scheduled for May 20.
The set of shows serves as a seeming continuation of his massive 42-date Love on Tour from last year. This time, though, he’s converting arena venues into Harry’s House as he performs songs from his new record in just a few cities.
