“The Walking Dead” spinoffs “Dead City” and “Daryl Dixon” have both been renewed for second seasons at AMC.
The announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday. For “Dead City,” the renewal comes ahead of the first season finale on July 23. Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan star in the series as Maggie and Negan respectively. “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” which stars Norman Reedus, is due to debut in September.
“This next chapter in the ‘Walking Dead’ Universe continues to thrive with a terrific inaugural season for ‘Dead City’ and highly anticipated new journey for fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon coming in September,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “We can’t wait to bring ‘Dead City’ fans back to the epicenter of Manhattan for more zip-lining action with Maggie and Negan. Picking up right where the previous episode of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” left off, Maggie and co. dig deeper through the Methane-filled sewers of New York City while Negan and Marshall Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles) venture off on their own journey through the city. Ginny (Mahina Napoleon) is now also along for the ride after intervening during the attack on Madison Square Garden.
Napoleon’s character continues to not say a word, choosing only to communicate through judgmental glances. Meanwhile, the Croat (Željko Ivanek) takes a rage-fueled trip to an abandoned theater where he reports the recent skirmish to a mysterious woman called the Dama (Lisa Emery) who seems to be his superior.
The Methane in the sewers causes Maggie to aggressively hallucinate, once again replaying the visual of Glenn (Steven Yeun) getting his head bashed in by Negan. The shocking flashback was very effective in the series pilot,...

“The Walking Dead: Dead City” continues its run with Episode 4, “Everybody Wins a Prize.” Negan, Maggie and the band of survivors they’ve united with are on the attack. Seeking to reclaim Maggie’s son Hershel from the grasp of the evil Croat (Željko Ivanek), the group devises a plan that involves Negan distracting his former Savior while the rest of them swoop in to rescue Hershel. Housed in an abandoned Madison Square Garden, the Croat’s base of operation makes for a stellar “Walking Dead” villain lair.
Using his signature whistle to lure the Croat deep into the depths of his stadium, Negan engages in a cat-and-mouse sequence as the Croat hunts him down throughout the once lively building. The chase results in a stand-off on a catwalk, with the Croat boasting about the new “Sanctuary” he’s created in the wake of Negan forcing him out of the...

The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 4
The idea that anyone could be too much of a psychopath for the Saviors is, honestly, hard to swallow. The first time we meet Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan on The Walking Dead, he introduces himself by bashing a couple of fan favorite characters to death. His chief lieutenant, Simon (Steven Ogg), is at least as bad as his boss. None of the Savior leadership were good people; at the time, the Saviors title seemed ironic. Now that Negan has been established a little better on The Walking Dead: Dead City, it’s easy to see just how things got so out of control. If Simon is the voice of reason, then things are too far gone to save.
It’s no wonder Maggie has such a grudge against The Croat (Zeljko Ivanek) for taking her son.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 2
Making New York City the setting for The Walking Dead: Dead City is nothing if not a bold move. It’s such a familiar environment for anyone who watches movies or television; you might have never been to the five boroughs, but New York is one of the most iconic pop culture locations in media history. As such, there’s a lot of baggage to be brought along for the ride, but Dead City‘s first real look into The Walking Dead‘s version of the Big Apple seems to take that into account.
There have already been rats and roaches aplenty, thanks to New York City’s signature giant piles of garbage bags. There are also construction scaffolds and tall buildings aplenty. But it’s out first meeting with Tommaso (Jonathan Higginbotham) and Amaia...

AMC continues to mine “The Walking Dead” to death. It has been nearly 13 years since the original series first aired, and yet none of its three spin-offs — soon to be four, plus an additional two in the works — have recaptured the magic of those early Rick Grimes-led seasons. After “The Last of Us” revived the prestige zombie genre with impressive quality and creativity earlier this year, AMC’s insistence on franchising continues to dilute the zombie drama du jour.
The latest spin-off, created and written by “The Walking Dead” producing veteran Eli Jorné, is not likely to convert any new fans. For viewers still slugging through the eighth season of “Fear the Walking Dead,” there are enough horror thrills in the six-episode season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” to keep you watching and even raise an eyebrow, particularly if you’re already invested in the rich dynamic between...

We’re just one month away from the June 18th premiere of the Walking Dead spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City, which follows the characters of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they go on a rescue mission to the zombie-infested island of Manhattan. Today, a full trailer for the show has arrived online, and you can watch it in the embed above.
Eli Jorné, who has been a writer and co-executive producer on The Walking Dead for multiple seasons, serves as showrunner on The Walking Dead: Dead City. This show will see Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.
Cohan and Morgan have been playing Maggie and Negan since season 2 and 6 (respectively) of The Walking Dead.

By now we all know that nothing can stop a zombie apocalypse, not even the series finale of "The Walking Dead." The main show may be over after a whopping 11-season run, but the spin-offs are flying fast and furious and the next one up just got a brand new, full-length trailer.
I myself fell off of "The Walking Dead" wagon shortly after Negan was introduced and haven't kept up with it since somewhere around the middle of season 7, but it's unquestionable that "The Walking Dead" is a franchise that fosters a huge fandom. The cast and crew still pack huge halls at conventions and the memes just won't stop making their way onto my For You pages.

Although an insane number of zombies, or walkers if you prefer, were dispatched over the course of The Walking Dead‘s eleven seasons, it was always other people that were the greatest threat to the group of survivors the show followed. And while that will probably continue to be the case on the upcoming spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City – which focuses on the characters Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and is set to reach AMC and AMC+ sometime in June 2023 – we’re also going to be seeing some interesting zombie moments on the new show. In fact, Scott M. Gimple, the Chief Content Officer of the Walking Dead Universe, says The Walking Dead: Dead City will feature a particularly awesome, disgusting, terrifying walker.

The Walking Dead wrapped up its 11 season run back in November and this year brings the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead, but that doesn’t mean the overall franchise is coming to an end. There’s the Rick & Michonne spin-off to look forward to in 2024, the Daryl spin-off (The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon) coming along later this year, and The Walking Dead: Dead City, a spin-off that will follow the characters of Maggie and Negan (played by Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan). It has now been announced that The Walking Dead: Dead City will be reaching AMC and AMC+ sometime in June 2023.

The executive producers behind the new “The Walking Dead” spinoff series “The Walking Dead: Dead City” Scott M. Gimple and Eli Jorné say surviving in New York will bring unique challenges to the veteran walker fighters Maggie and Negan.
AMC is giving viewers an all-new “Walking Dead” journey, this time with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as its two leads. Joining the entourage is U.S. Marshall Perlie Armstrong, who is played by Gaius Charles.
The series won’t include the Covid-19 pandemic, and Gimple and Jorné say you don’t need to watch any of the “Walking Dead” franchise in order to feel connected to the story — despite Morgan mentioning that “it would help.” In addition, the zombie series is moving its location from the plains of Georgie to the now very lifeless city of New York.

The cable outlet has set a release slate for the next four shows in its Walking Dead universe, beginning with the eighth — and final, AMC says — season of Fear the Walking Dead on May 14. It will be followed by a June premiere of The Walking Dead: Dead City, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, and the Norman Reedus-led The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon later in the year.
Finally, a series featuring Lincoln and Gurira reprising their roles as Rick Grimes and Michonne is set to begin production this year for a 2024 debut. The rollout continues AMC’s biggest franchise ever after the November 2022 series finale of The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead has come to an end, but Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will continue playing Maggie and Negan in the spin-off series The Walking Dead: Dead City (which was formerly known as Isle of the Dead). A premiere date for the show hasn’t been announced yet, but AMC has unveiled a teaser trailer, and you can check that out in the embed above! The 20 second teaser is worth a look, especially to see a really gross moment involving a zombie that’s in an advanced stage of decomposition.
