Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox stands tall as the greatest animated Dcau film. The movie features a dynamic storyline with three-dimensional characters and outstanding voice actors. Besides the rich narrative and well-written characters, the voice cast of the film has done a fantastic job. At the same time, there is quite an interesting story behind the casting of the role of Superman.
A still from Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
In the animated series, Clark Kent was voiced by Tim Daly, the actor always the right choice to voice the character. His voice radiated warmth, determination, and passion, which is necessary to play the iconic DC superhero. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, he could not voice the superhero for this movie. Instead, his son did the work, and surprisingly, very few fans noticed the difference.

Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series, which kickstarted the DC Animated Universe (Dcau) is regarded as the best adaptation of the Caped Crusader by many. Besides the plot, one of the primary reasons for its popularity was the iconic voice castings. The late Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and Joker have left an indelible mark on the viewers’ minds.
Kevin Conroy’s Batman and Mark Hamill’s Joker
While Conroy is often hailed as the best Batman ever, Mark Hamill’s performance is considered even more praiseworthy than the critically acclaimed live-action works. However, the Star Wars star was not the first choice to play a Dcau role. It was only for voice director Andrea Romano, that Hamill could give us the legendary Joker performance.

Although there has been a plethora of onscreen adaptations of the Batman mythos, to many, the 1992 series still remains the definitive version of the character and his rouges’ gallery. While most of it had to do with Bruce Timm and Paul Dini’s brilliance, one cannot undermine the contribution of the amazing voice cast, which involved the likes of Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Arleen Sorkin, etc.
For that, we have Andrea Romano to thank, who served as casting and voice director on the acclaimed show. However, getting the tone of the show right took Romano a while, as this was unlike anything she had been part of before.

Batman: The Animated Series remains one of the most definitive adaptations of the character in modern media. The cast and crew that worked on the show would go on to become seasoned Batman veterans and produce multiple versions of the character in and outside the Dcau.

Andrea Romano was a key contributor to the Dcau, being a powerhouse for the franchise, looking towards casting the iconic voice talent that would become synonymous with the show and the characters that they play. Despite the mysticism of voice-over acting and the mysterious voices behind the animated parts, there remains a strong attraction to the medium of animation for actors who strive for real creative potential beyond the allure of recognition and glamor. Kevin Conroy stands out, among the millions of other faceless heroes, as one of the most respected and famous voice actors whose contribution to the DC comics lore has made him synonymous with Batman.

Ever since X-Men ’97 was revived by Marvel Studios, the superhero landscape has entered into a pseudo-nostalgic era, where audiences have begun to reminisce about the good old days, when animated series were the go-to format for good superhero fiction. Almost immediately, there was a demand to bring back other animated series, not just from Marvel, but other studios that had previously produced great superhero content like Batman Beyond.

A reboot of cult comedy Blue Mountain State is on the cards, with the original creators and cast set to return.
Though the Tom Cruise films Jack Reacher and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back were fun, it is Alan Ritchson who has really defined the role of Reacher onscreen. Reacher recently finished airing its second season on Amazon Prime, and although the critical reception wasn’t as positive as the first, it is currently pressing ahead with season three, which will reportedly be based on author Lee Child’s seventh novel, Persuader. The plot will see Reacher conduct a secret mission on behalf of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to help bring down a drug smuggler, Zachary Beck.
Alan Ritchson first came to prominence co-starring in sitcom Blue Mountain State, in which he played Kevin “Thad” Castle.

Los Angeles, CA – Eight-time Emmy Award winner Andrea Romano further cemented her reputation as the greatest voiceover director in animation history on Sunday night when she was inducted into the prestigious Children’s & Family Emmys’ inaugural Silver Circle during a ceremony at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel.

Television series don't always end on their own terms. Some of the greatest shows in the medium's history have been canceled due to low ratings before they could finish telling their overarching story or just as they were hitting their stride creatively. Some of the most egregious examples of series getting the axe before their time include "My So-Called Life," "Arrested Development," "Frank's Place," "Sports Night," "I'll Fly Away," "Deadwood," and "Mindhunters." It's possible no one has had a more brutal small-screen run than Judd Apatow, who, before he became a hit-making film producer, watched helplessly as three superb, critically acclaimed comedies — "The Ben Stiller Show," "Freaks and Geeks" and "Undeclared" — failed to earn a second season.
Sometimes, fan enthusiasm results in these works getting revived in some incarnation or another, and, unfortunately, the results are often unsightly. But at least there's a reason for going back. The same isn't...

This story about the casting of “Shrinking” first appeared in the Comedy Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Say you’re casting a thoughtful comedy about the world of psychotherapists, and you need a seasoned veteran to support the sharp young cast in a potentially scene-stealing mentor role. And then you land one of the biggest movie stars in the world, an icon who has been in two of the largest movie franchises in the last 50 years.
This was the reality for “Shrinking” casting directors Debby Romano and Brett Benner when the AppleTV+ comedy was being put together. It still seems surreal to them that they landed Harrison Ford for the pivotal supporting role of Paul, a senior member of the practice where Jason Segel and Jessica Williams’ characters work as therapists.

[Spoiler Alert: The below contains spoilers from Bupkis Season 1.] Bupkis has arrived, and while this semi-autobiographical Peacock comedy may revolve around Pete Davidson, the show’s array of guest stars shine on their own, with a little help from Everybody Loves Raymond costars Ray Romano and Brad Garrett. While they don’t appear onscreen together in the show, they do appear in several episodes throughout the season; Romano plays a version of himself and Garrett portrays a family friend Pete calls “Uncle Roy.” They pop up in different scenarios, with Roy needing some special assistance from Pete and Ray offering up some bad advice at inopportune times as a figment of Pete’s imagination mostly. Heidi Gutman/Peacock Perhaps one of the most memorable sequences is in the first episode as Pete seeks the employment of an escort to give his grandfather Joe (Joe Pesci), who was recently diagnosed with cancer, a memorable night. The new Peacock series "Bupkis" is almost working overtime from the get-go to inure itself from any serious criticism. The title alone puts you in mind of something not worth expending much effort upon, but each of the eight episodes begins with a title card and accompanying voiceover essentially shielding co-creator, co-writer, and star Pete Davidson from any serious attacks, specifying that while the series may be inspired by fact, it is still very much a fictional product. "It's bupkis," is the closing sentence of the title card, and the tone of the narrator communicates a sense that none of this is worth getting worked up over. That title card ends up being a sign that expectations are best lowered when approaching the streaming series that presents a skewed version of the life of the very famous stand-up comedian/sketch performer, and also a sign that "Bupkis" is a scattershot,...

Ari Aster’s Beau Is Afraid did solid business in its second week, expanding from four screens to well over 900 for a gross of $2.7+ million and a cume of $3.14 million. The A24 film starring Joaquin Phoenix has a $2.8k per screen average and no. 9 spot. It’s a weekend with a wide range of specialty films in a market that’s improving by some measures — some more product, some stronger openings — but still hard to read amid the blockbusters.
Aster has a committed fan base and a core group of theaters carried the weekend. This film is a tougher sell than the previous two, also from A24. Beau “has already sparked countless passionate debates and discourse from critics and audiences alike,” the distributor said, and, like all of Aster’s films, it “will have a long life in the weeks, months, and years to come.”

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (Universal) reasserted its potential to be bigger than any upcoming summer movie with a stellar third-weekend showing of $58,230,000. Now at $434,330,000 domestic ($872 million worldwide), the Nintendo animated adaptation from Illumination could outgross all post-Covid titles other than “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($805 million). That includes “Top Gun: Maverick” ($719 million) and “Avatar: The Way of Water” ($684 million).
With a strong $23.5 million opening, “Evil Dead Rise” (Warner Bros. Discovery) also buttressed a sense of improved fortunes for theaters — just in time for exhibitors and distributors heading to Las Vegas for Cinemacon.
The third-weekend drop for “Smb” of 37 percent was a better hold than “Maverick,” which represented the stellar third-weekend hold of 2022. Another curiosity: if Universal doesn’t start its PVOD window countdown until a film grosses less than $50 million, it still have another month as a theatrical exclusive.

Ray Romano is realizing how fast “time is flying by” and said his health isn’t what it used to be.
During Monday’s episode of the Wtf With Marc Maron podcast, the Everybody Loves Raymond star revealed that he recently had a stent put in his heart, because he “had 90 percent blockage” in his “main artery.”
The actor added, “I got kind of lucky that we found it.”

In my body, I’m getting a couple of notices that I am that old.”
Looking back, the Somewhere in Queens actor said he wishes he did do a few things differently years ago regarding his health.

When Romano, who played the titular character for a total of nine seasons and 210 episodes, auditioned for Scorsese’s 2016 HBO series “Vinyl”, the screenwriter and producer had never heard of the actor.

“Scorsese did the pilot and I had to go on tape for him,” Romano, 65, recalled on a recent episode of Marc Maron’s “Wtf” podcast. “The cool thing was, I went on tape and the response we got back was, ‘Yeah, Marty likes it. For decades, Martin Scorsese has been one of the most desired directors that nearly every actor wants to work with. But it’s not easy to land a Scorsese production, especially if you’re not even on his radar, as was the case with Ray Romano, despite having one of the most successful sitcoms of its time.
On a recent episode of the podcast Wtf with Marc Maron, Romano recalled auditioning for Scorsese on HBO’s Vinyl, the short-lived series that circles the New York music scene of the 1970s. “Scorsese did the pilot and I had to go on tape for him. The cool thing was, I went on tape and the response we got back was, ‘Yeah, Marty likes it. He’s in the running. And Marty wants to know who he is. He’s never seen him…And my agent was like, ‘So he’s never seen the show?...

After posting giant per screen numbers at four theaters last weekend, A24’s Beau Is Afraid jumps to 926 for the distributor’s third outing with Ari Aster. It’s a very different film from his horror favorites Hereditary and Midsommar but one the distributor hopes will cement the director’s place as a modern auteur.
According to one influential fan, it has. Martin Scorsese, at a Q&a after an Imax screening in New York this week, called Aster a “unique and powerful” risk taker and “one of the most extraordinary new voices in World Cinema.”
Beau is scary in parts, like an opening Scorsese described as “the best scene I’ve seen of its kind. Absolutely terrifying.” There’s comedy, animation, a conflation of past, present and future, of reality and fantasy, of guilt, innocence, fear and self-loathing and an ongoing play within the movie. Sticks and Stones: Romano’s Lovable Directorial Debut
Ray Romano’s first foray into acting-directing, Somewhere in Queens, is an uproarious family drama more akin to Little Miss Sunshine than Everybody Loves Raymond. At first, this winsome romp feels familiar, even cutesy—a raucous Italian-American household, bumbling father, protective mother, soft-spoken son, college hoop dreams at odds with the family business—but the film’s surprisingly touching sensitivity shoots for the moon and scores.
Sitcom fans will be pleased to find Romano’s creative stamp all over Queens, but this well-acted ensemble is more heart than formula; it functions (and dysfunctions) when pieces collide in a delightful pileup of human errors.…...

Considering Ray Romano has worn so many hats in his career – comedian, actor, writer, producer – it’s hard to believe that the multi-hyphenate had never directed before. When I mention I assumed he had at least directed one of the 210 episodes of his acclaimed series “Everybody Loves Raymond,” Romano jokes: “Me too. I thought I must have directed one of them, right? But no, I had never done it.”
So it comes as a surprise not only to audiences but to Romano himself that he’s making his directorial debut with the feature film “Somewhere in Queens,” a poignant comedy about a working-class Italian family that hits theaters this weekend. The film is so resonant in so many ways...

Girls just wanna have fun, no matter what decade it is.
Village Roadshow is producing a modern-day remake of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, the cult 1985 romantic comedy dance movie that starred Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt.
Marja-Lewis Ryan, who acted as showrunner of The L Word: Generation Q, is co-writing the script with Allie Romano, who was a staff writer and executive story editor on Generation Q.
Elizabeth Banks is producing with Max Handelman via the duo’s Brownstone Productions.
Girls, made by now-defunct New World Pictures, centered on an army brat (Parker) who settles in Chicago, attends a strict Catholic high school and contends with an even stricter father at home. The girl decides to follow her passion of dance and, with the encouragement of her new best friend (Hunt), auditions for the local TV dance show. Ray Romano starred in one of television’s biggest sitcoms for nine seasons and 210 episodes, but apparently Martin Scorsese was never watching “Everybody Loves Raymond.” During a recent interview on Marc Maron’s “Wtf” podcast (via IndieWire), Raymond said that Scorsese had no idea who he was when casting him in the HBO series “Vinyl.”
“Scorsese did the pilot and I had to go on tape for him,” Romano said. “The cool thing was, I went on tape and the response we got back was, ‘Yeah, Marty likes it. He’s in the running. And Marty wants to know who he is. Marc Maron wanted “Bad Education” to be more queer.
The 2019 Emmy-winning TV movie based on a true story starred Hugh Jackman as corrupt school district superintendent Frank Tassone who embezzled millions of dollars in school funds. Frank’s husband Tom was played by Stephen Spinella, while Rafael Casal portrayed his boyfriend Kyle, whose Las Vegas lifestyle was in part funded by the stolen money.
Comedian Maron revealed he auditioned to play the role of Kyle but ultimately turned it down over a lack of “gayness.”
“I thought I was auditioning for the role you had,” Maron told guest Ray Romano during his “Wtf” podcast. “I just didn’t want to do it. I read the script and I said I don’t want to do it. It was for Hugh Jackman’s boyfriend. He’s got nothing in there.”
Maron added, “I said, ‘If I’m going be gay in a movie,...

Well, apparently not everyone knows Raymond.
“Everybody Loves Raymond” sitcom star Ray Romano revealed that Oscar winner Martin Scorsese was completely oblivious to the actor’s TV fame before casting him in short-lived HBO series “Vinyl.”

Romano continued, “I can buy that, that Martin Scorsese doesn’t watch television.

Exclusive: Roadside Attractions has acquired North American rights to The Last Rider, the story of cycling legend Greg LeMond, who came back from a near death experience to win his sport’s greatest race.
LeMond remains the only American man to win the Tour de France, a feat he accomplished three times – in 1986, 1989 and 1990 (Tour victories by Americans Lance Armstrong and Floyd Landis were vacated after they admitted using banned performance-enhancing drugs). Remarkably, LeMond’s second and third Tour de France wins came after he was nearly killed in a hunting accident, in which his brother-in-law accidentally blasted him with a shotgun, hitting LeMond with 60 pellets. He lost 65 percent of his blood, but somehow survived.
The documentary directed by Alex Holmes will be released in theaters on June 23.
Greg LeMond races in the Tour du Pont in Washington, DC May 14, 1992.

Ray Romano recently avoided a major medical issue. During an interview on the Wtf with Marc Maron podcast, the 65-year-old actor revealed he recently underwent a heart procedure after his doctors discovered his arteries were “90 percent blocked.” Catching it early meant Romano avoided a possible widowmaker heart attack. “I had to have a stent put in, at 90 percent blockage,” Romano told host Marc Maron. “I got kinda lucky that we found it before having a heart attack.” The comedians were discussing their health and diets when the heart procedure came up. Romano said his cholesterol had been an issue for most of his adult life but that he always opted out of taking medication to treat it. “Every time, I said, ‘Let me do it myself,'” he said of past conversations with his doctors. “And I would go home, and I would eat right. Not vegan, but a little healthier,...

Eighteen years after Ray Romano’s final curtain call on his loosely autobiographical sitcom, the comedian still dutifully works from an office on the Burbank lot where he filmed eight of Everybody Loves Raymond‘s nine seasons. “When the show ended, Warner Bros. gave me this nice little office,” he says. “Not gave. I do pay rent.”
It’s not beyond the pale to assume these digs might be free. In addition to making an impressive bit of change for himself — Romano ranks among the highest-paid TV stars of all time — he gave the studio one of the last bona fide broadcast hits, one that endures in lucrative syndication and streaming deals. But such matters, says Romano, are no longer his concern. He’s spent the two decades since Raymond distancing himself from “sitcom guy,” tackling more dramatic parts (NBC’s Parenthood), supporting work (The Big Sick) and, most recently,...

If you were missing Pete Davidson after his departure from "Saturday Night Live" last year, and all the stories in the news about his dating life aren't enough for you, you're in luck: coming soon is his new TV series, "Bupkis." Continuing the great decades'-long tradition of stand-up comedians getting a TV series where they basically just play themselves, "Bupkis" will be all about Pete Davidson, a man who is like the real Davidson in every way, except that most of his friends and family here are played by actors, not the real people.
The show is described as "a half-hour live-action comedy," centered around a "heightened, fictionalized version of Pete Davidson's real life." According to the recent press release, "The series will combine grounded storytelling with absurd elements from the unfiltered and completely original worldview for which Pete is well known."

Devanny Pinn, star of Battle for Saipan and best known for appearing in an impressive number of horror titles, has lined up her first feature as director.
The actress and producer is set to helm the 1970s crime thriller Black Mass, due to start shooting in L.A. on Friday.

Lew Temple (The Walking Dead), Jeremy London, Lisa Wilcox and Michelle Romano (Escape From Ensenada) will star, with Romano also serving as producer.
