I don’t know if there will be any life vests on this season of The Amazing Race, but if so, floaters better grab them. That’s because reality royalty returns tonight when husband-and-wife team Brendon Villegas and Rachel Reilly take their second tour on The Amazing Race when season 24 of the reality show premieres on CBS. But how does racing around the world at breakneck speed compare with backstabbing house guests in the backyard on the show that first made Brenchel famous, Big Brother? We asked the couple when they called into Entertainment Weekly Radio (SiriusXM, channel 105).

The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 11
“Beacon of Hope”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
When evaluating the cast of each Amazing Race season, it’s easy to look at two strong guys and expect them to blow through the race. When this pair includes professional athletes, that chance seems even greater. The interesting part is that physical competitors frequently go out early. They could be poor navigators, struggle with intricate tasks, or just hit a run of bad luck. When an imposing team does get it together, the results can be predictable. Max and Katie won three straight legs heading into the finals, but it still feels like Bates and Anthony’s race to lose. They succeeded by following other teams and then rolling on the challenges. That’s hardly a bad strategy if they follow the right people (they did). Even with a few hiccups, the hockey...

A two-hour season finale whittled the remaining four teams down to one winner on "The Amazing Race." The first hour saw the teams in Scotland and Northern Ireland where they got to swim in an Irish bog, and in the Detour choose between spray painting graffiti on a wall or serving a 5-course meal at the site where the Titanic was built.
At the end of this leg, which saw the teams close competitors, no single thing doomed Caroline & Jennifer. They were just the team that came up short on the mat.
The final leg carried the teams through England before flying off to Washington, DC. At the Capitol, Mona & Beth decided they knew better than the clue, which told them to go to 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue to get their picture taken with the President. It was actually a CG trick, but they determined that they should probably go to the...

"The Amazing Race" came down to the wire but hockey brothers Bates and Anthony Battaglia clinched the win.
The fan favorite brothers edged out newlyweds Max and Katie Bichler. Roller-derby moms Mona Egender and Beth Bandimere finished third.
Friends and country singers Caroline Cutbirth and Jennifer Kuhle were eliminated before the final stretch in Washington D.C.
The finale was especially bittersweet for father and son cancer survivors Dave and Connor O'Leary, who were forced to quit this year's race due to an injury Dave sustained. They joined the other eliminated teams at the finish line to cheer on Bates and Anthony.
The Battaglias led our poll for who deserved to win, so we're guessing there are a lot of happy "Amazing Race" fans out there. What did you think of the finale and the season overall?...

YouTube stars Joey Graceffa and Meghan Camarena seemed to be having a lot of fun on "The Amazing Race," so it's a little bit sad to hear the newly eliminated duo discussing their disappointment that the other teams seemed to dislike them on the Race. It wasn't all of the other teams, of course. Joey & Meghan made an early alliance with John & Jessica and Roller Derby Moms Mona & Beth, targeting Hockey Brothers Bates & Anthony, the team they felt [correctly, so far] was the biggest threat. That, of course, left them feeling targeted by Bates & Anthony,...

“Working Our Barrels Off”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
This week’s Amazing Race splits the five remaining teams into two separate groups and forces one to scramble to avoid elimination. The interesting part is how they end up divided by several hours during the jaunt through Scotland. The leg begins with the warning that a U-Turn will be ahead, but that plays only a minor role in the ultimate outcome. Instead, it’s the lack of diligence from Joey and Meghan and the roller derby moms that pushes them to the back of the pack. After grabbing what’s apparently the best flight, they celebrate and prepare to grab the top two spots. This type of error happens nearly every season, and it’s easy to understand why they feel complacent enough not to look for better options. The saving grace...

Joey Graceffa and Meghan Camarena escaped elimination once -- due to Chuck and Wynona McCall's failure to follow a clue properly in a previous leg -- but they weren't so lucky in Sunday night's episode of The Amazing Race. The double U-turn in Scotland resulted in two of the remaining five teams battling it out for the fourth spot: Joey and Meghan and their alliance mates, "roller-derby moms" Mona Egender and Beth Bandimere. The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 9
“The Ultimate Fun House”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
This week’s action-packed episode of The Amazing Race reveals the best and worst aspects of the current incarnation of this long-running show. After 22 seasons, it’s impressive to see challenges that still feel creative and exciting for devoted fans. On the other hand, there are warning signs that the producers are drawing the wrong conclusions from the consistent success. They seem convinced the audience is fascinated by the showmance between the hockey players and Caroline and Jennifer. While mentioning it is fine, repeating the same types of conversations feels unnecessary when so much is happening in the competition. Even if they make the finals and are competing directly for the million, the story isn’t going anywhere. A much bigger moment has Bates waking up on the train to Dresden, Germany and...

Da Vinci's Demons spreads its wings tonight.
News
Patrick Duffy says he'd like to participate in a Step by Step reunion movie and that it would be interesting to see how the Lambert family grew up. I just hope such a series spawns a serious topical drama that desperately adds a laugh track when ratings tank, giving the Tgif generation a The Bradys of their own.
You've seen me complain that the dark side of a golden age of television is a too-full DVR that make it challenging to keep up with all the good shows (as well as the guilty pleasures and hate watching) available. It also means that shows like Southland and Switched at Birth don't quite get the attention they deserve. I'm still looking for time to get caught up on Game of Thrones, much less time to get to that third episode of Top of the Lake.

“I Love Monkeys!”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Only four episodes have passed, but this is shaping up to be one of the strangest installments in Amazing Race history. The season began with three teams quitting a Roadblock and was followed by a pair giving up due to a fear of water. David and Connor still win the two-part leg despite the fact that David has a ruptured Achilles. All of these are crazy examples, but they pale in comparison to the baffling conclusion this week. John and Jessica have clearly been one of the strongest teams in this competition. He seems bored by just avoiding elimination and has been focusing on alliances and other strategy. They earned the Express Pass in the opening week, but it ends up being the crutch that spells their downfall. The key with this reward is...

While teams race around the world, CBS is hoping that this reality competion will win the ratings race -- or at least win its timeslot. Will the network renew The Amazing Race for another cycle? We'll have to wait and see.
Hosted by Phil Keoghan, The Amazing Race typically airs on Sunday nights on CBS. There are usually about 12 episodes. This season's contestants include twin doctors Idries Abdur-Rahman and Jamil Abdur-Rahman, newlyweds Max Bichler and Katie Bichler, roller derby moms Mona Egender and Beth Bandimere, hockey brothers Bates Battaglia and Anthony Battaglia, married couple Chuck McCall and Wynona McCall, cancer surviving father/son David O’Leary and Connor O’Leary, country singers Caroline Cutbirth and Jennifer Kuhle, YouTube hosts Joey Graceffa and Meghan Camarena, best friends Pamela Chien and Winnie Sung, daters Jessica Hoel and John Erck, and firefighters Matthew Davis and Daniel Moss.

Amazing Race 22 Preview
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Premieres February 17
Can The Amazing Race still be surprising? With the long-running reality competition entering its 22nd season, the chance for major changes seems unlikely. There will be unpredictable moments, but the overall structure remains the same. The producers have tried to throw in new twists to liven up the game, but they’re one-time events that rarely make a dent. For example, last season upped the ante to $2 million, but only for the team that won the opening leg. Once Abbie and Ryan left the game, that move disappeared from memory.
Even without structural changes, there’s still plenty to like with this show. It’s consistently entertaining and sends its 11 teams through difficult challenges all over the world. The set-up is so good that it’s impossible not to wish for the best from every season. So much...
