Jessica Biel is ready to strut her stuff on Peacock for a limited series adaptation of Karin Slaughter’s New York Times best-selling novel The Good Daughter. In addition to her starring role, Biel executive produces the adaptation, which was in hot contention at several studios before landing at Peacock.
Getting in on the project’s ground floor is Pieces of Her author Karin Slaughter, who will write all episodes and executive produce alongside Biel. The Good Daughter hails from Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories studio. Described as a psychological suspense thriller, The Good Daughter tells the story of two sisters, Charlotte (Jessica Biel) and Samantha Quinn, whose lives become upended by a solitary night of unspeakable violence. Years later, and after becoming a lawyer like her father, Charlotte must confront her inner demons as a new case drudges up wicked memories from traumatic events. American Psycho starring Christian Bale released back in 2000. The character of Patrick Bateman was done to perfection by the then-kind-of-unknown Bale, and things haven’t been the same since. It’s not easy to pull off a character that has the looks, charm, is a good actor, and a little bit of a freak.
And maybe that was the reason the studio back then wasn’t too keen on casting Bale in the lead role. But to their pleasant surprise, the actor gave a performance worthy of being written in the pages of cinematic history.

And now rumor has it that Lionsgate is looking to do a modern-day remake of the classic. After Bale’s rendition of Patrick Bateman, it will be a little difficult to cast another actor to play such an iconic role. But the internet has never been one...

Ethan Hawke, Daniel Radcliffe, and Jessica Biel will pack their gear for Batso, a film based on the true story of three groundbreaking climbers who scaled the iconic peak El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in the early 1970s.
Kyle Marvin directs from a screenplay by Eamon O’Sullivan, with Ethan Hawke playing Warren “Batso” Harding and Daniel Radcliffe as Dean Caldwell, the first climbers to challenge the incredibly daunting sheer face El Capitan route known as “The Wall of Early Morning Light.” Meanwhile, Jessica Biel plays Beryl Knauth, a trend-setting climber and Warner’s romantic partner.
Here’s the official synopsis from Deadline‘s exclusive report:
“In 1970, ‘The Wall of Early Morning Light’ was an unthinkable climb. For larger-than-life climbing legends Warren ‘Batso’ Harding and Dean Caldwell, it represented a near-impossible physical and mental challenge. For iconoclast Batso, it also offered one last chance to stick it to the naysayers who thought him too old,...

Nostalgia for the ’80s has been inspiring entertainment since well before “Stranger Things” hit streaming. Classic films from “Pretty Woman” to “American Psycho” have received musical adaptations on Broadway. And last year “Top Gun: Maverick” soared at the box office and into the Best Picture Oscars race: solidifying short-shorts, jet engines, and long overdue ’80s sequels as timeless symbols of Hollywood excellence.

80 for Brady is a comedy starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno and Sally Field, and with Tom Brady as himself. It is directed by Kyle Marvin, and is written by Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern.
80 for Brady is a nice, pleasant and funny movie about rather mature women in a sports movie with the great star Tom Brady as a big attraction.
A film built upon an excellent casting that manages not to displease anyone, but nor will it make them fall in love with it, either.
Movie Review
As fun, entertaining and enjoyable as a movie can be that was created for fans of Tom Brady (who plays his part well and this guy has a future beyond the stadiums) and the four wonderful stars as likeable, charming and nice to play characters.
Little else, because it is not a film that aspires to anything else...

Four of the most prominent women to ever be on screen come together for a heartwarming story about the importance of friendship. ‘80 for Brady’ is inspired by a true story of a group of women over the age of eighty from Massachusetts that were the “80 for Brady Club.” Known for their love of Tom Brady, these women would get together each Sunday to watch the New England Patriots play. Scripted by the writers of ‘Booksmart,’ Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, with an independent producer of ‘The Climb,’ Kyle Marvin making his directorial debut creates an adequate piece that does not feel the need to exceed what it is. The script, almost a long sitcom, plays out the situational humor with the day-to-day reality of their age being the stimulant. The best moments directed by Marvin are when the four actresses are able to inhabit the space available to them. The chemistry between Jane Fonda,...

The buzz around “80 for Brady” focuses on its octogenarian stars — Sally Field, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Lily Tomlin — and Tom Brady’s legacy, both of which drove the movie to second place at the box office last weekend. The story of four Brady-obsessed friends who travel to see him play the Super Bowl is charming, bittersweet, and a smart play by Paramount to capture the demographics of older women and NFL fans alike. But its unsung heroes are two young filmmakers best known for a low-budget Cannes hit.
“80 for Brady” marks the directorial debut of Kyle Marvin, who, with Michael Angelo Covino, scripted and starred in the 2019 Cannes hit “The Climb,” which was Covino’s own directorial debut. In 2021, the pair rewrote “80 for Brady” and they now share executive producer credits.

Tom Brady magically appears a few times throughout his first post-second-retirement win, “80 for Brady,” speaking to a super-fan played by Lily Tomlin. In one moment, she’s in the middle of a football throwing contest that takes place during other parts of her raucous Super Bowl adventure, and Brady offers sage advice straight from his historic quarterbacking experience: “Don’t worry about how hard you throw it—it’s all about accuracy and focus.” Tomlin’s Lou scores big using this advice, but so does director Kyle Marvin, who delivers an amiable comedy with four superstars sharing sitcom-ready antics while wearing Brady’s jersey in sequins.

It was a not-at-all-insignificant weekend at the box office as "Avatar: The Way of Water" was finally forced to surrender the top spot, with M. Night Shyamalan's "Knock at the Cabin" earning its place in history as the movie to get the job done. And while that is certainly the headline-worthy story to come from this past weekend, it's by no means the only story worth examining. That's because several other movies and bits of specialty programming entered the fold and did quite well, despite the heavy competition. This includes "80 for Brady," a BTS concert documentary, and the season finale of a faith-based TV show. There was room for all, and that is something the industry at large would do well to make note of.

Plot: A group of eighty-year-old women win tickets to the Super Bowl to see their favorite quarterback, Tom Brady, in action.
Review: One has to give all the gals involved in 80 for Brady credit. In recent years, all four have had tremendous success, with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin doing excellent work on the consistently watchable Grace and Frankie on Netflix. Meanwhile, Rita Moreno, at ninety-one (but looking at least fifteen years younger), is an Egot winner who was just in Spielberg’s remake of her own West Side Story, while Sally Field (the youngest of the group at 76) was recently in a terrific indie called Hello My Name is Doris. All four are still in the game and doing great work, but 80 for Brady isn’t going to be a career highlight for any of them.

Ostensibly inspired by the true story of four best friends who, in 2017, decided to embark on a trip to Super Bowl Li to see Tom Brady win another ring before retiring, 80 for Brady proves to be a remarkably charming and endearing piece thanks in large part to the ensemble of fine actresses assembled for this road trip.
Lily Tomlin stars as Lou, the centerpiece of a group of friends who have been together watching Tom Brady and the New England Patriots play (and win) football games since he entered his first game as they watched a game together to cheer Lou up after a particularly brutal round of chemotherapy. Chicago – “80 for Brady” has an all star lineup, but when it comes to scoring any genuine laughs it has a serious case of fumble-itis. It’s fun to see these talented women together on the screen but there’s not much there. It’s four old friends going to the Super Bowl, and that’s about it.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
Trish (Jane Fonda), Lou (Lily Tomlin), Maura (Rita Moreno) and Betty (Sally Field) are four Patriots fans who dream big of seeing their favorite player … Tom Brady as himself … appear in the 2017 Super Bowl. Lou is a cancer survivor who found an uplift in football. Trish is a sexpot still enjoying dating and writing Rob Gronkowski erotic fan fiction. Maura is a widow who’s a bit of a gambler. And Betty is a retired math professor who, when she’s not keeping track of her absent minded professor husband, is “the responsible one.

Tom Brady was still playing defense on his future plans just hours before he announced his retirement from the NFL. The superstar quarterback told Variety at Tuesday’s “80 for Brady” premiere that he had not yet made a decision on whether he would return to the gridiron later this year or join Fox Sports in the broadcast booth.
“When should I made the decision?” Brady playfully asked when I pressed him on the red carpet at the “80 for Brady” premiere at Regency Village Westwood Theatre. “These things take time. We’ve got to marinate it a bit.”
But on Wednesday morning, Brady announced he was retiring “for good.”
“I’m retiring – for good,” he said in a video posted Wednesday morning. “I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first.

The four indelible stars of 80 for Brady — Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field — have a combined age of 335 years but are not the least bit inclined to act like it in this highly concocted but sassy, good-natured wish-fulfillment comedy. The film is as silly and contrived as all get-out and you can’t help feeling that, with a cast this good, it’s a shame that a script worthy of the actresses’ combined talents couldn’t have been found and put to much better use. Still, if you’re at all inclined to spend a couple of hours in the company of four ultra-talented ladies doing dopey and rambunctious things to worm their way into the Super Bowl to behold their sports hero Tom Brady in person, then this is your ticket.

Tom Brady went from star quarterback to movie star on Tuesday night, walking the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of 80 for Brady, which he both produced and acts in (as himself).
The NFL star was greeted by fans chanting his name the second he stepped out of his car, and was surrounded by a hoard of industry insiders seeking photos and handshakes as he slowly made his way into the Westwood theater.
Brady’s co-stars — and the film’s leading ladies — Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sally Field and Rita Moreno also caught up with him on the carpet, and Tomlin had some high praise for the athlete’s acting skills.
“He was a wonderful actor,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “He listens, which is the key mark of a good actor. He really listens and he responds in the moment and you can see him thinking and processing...

After nearly two months of uninterrupted glory, this may be the weekend that “Avatar: The Way of Water” gets bumped from No. 1 on box office charts.
That’s because M. Night Shyamalan’s newest thriller “Knock at the Cabin” is poised to open to 15 million to 20 million, which looks to be enough to claim the top spot from “Avatar 2.”
“The Way of Water,” which has towered above the competition for seven consecutive weeks, is estimated to bring in roughly 11 million during its eighth weekend of release. So far, the blockbuster sequel has generated 620 million in North America and 2.117 billion globally to stand as the fourth-highest grossing movie in history. “Avatar 2” will compete for second place with Paramount’s new comedy “80 For Brady,” which hopes to touch down with 10 million or more from 3,800 locations.

There’s little logic when it comes to fandom. Some of it stems from personal taste or geographic proximity or sentimental nostalgia — or some combination of the three — and some of it is truly the stuff of magic. All of which is to say that the premise of “80 For Brady,” a new star-dense comedy that imagines four octogenarians as diehard Tom Brady fans doesn’t exactly strain plausibility. The heart wants what the heart wants, even if it’s for the Patriots to go all the way.
The titular “80 For Brady” are based on a real set of Boston-based octogenarians, brought to life in the film by Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field. Their story caught the eyes of screenwriters Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern (“Booksmart”), who recognized the inherent comedy and affection to such a relationship between women. “80 For Brady” is also the...

A sweet if toothless “Girls Trip” for the “Golden Girls” crowd, “80 for Brady” unites four Hollywood legends — “Grace and Frankie” duo Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field — as a real-life gang of octogenarian amigas who road-tripped to the 2017 Super Bowl to cheer on their favorite quarterback, Tom Brady. Selected as the opening-night cork-popper for the Palm Springs International Film Festival (whose diva-worshiping audience reps the two demographics this featherweight offering serves best: gay and gray), Kyle Marvin’s directorial debut is a pleasant enough reminder that these gals are still game for a good time.
More fuddy-duddy buddy comedy than sports film, the female-scripted laffer (co-written by Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern) celebrates the fact that football appeals to more than just bros. Never mind that its central foursome seems less interested in Brady’s form than in how well he fills out his uniform. Here,...

Tom Brady left Jane Fonda starstruck.
The legendary quarterback produces and stars in upcoming film “80 for Brady,” based on the true story of a group of senior women who take a road trip to the 2017 Super Bowl to meet Brady. Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sally Field, and Rita Moreno star as the core friend group, with Brady’s former teammates Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, and Danny Amendola appearing.
“My knees actually got weak when he walked into my trailer,” Fonda told The Hollywood Reporter at the world premiere of the film during the Palm Springs International Film Festival. “I’m in awe of that kind of skill. When somebody is the best in the world at what they do, you have to honor that and respect it. I was just awestruck.”

If 80 for Brady, the opening-night selection of the Palm Springs Film Festival, lures the 55-plus cohort from its living-room flat-screens to the multiplex, it won’t be for the bromides on friendship. Those are delivered with an almost shocking literalness, but sparingly at least. This movie’s dazzle is all about the chemistry of its powerhouse quartet and the potential for comic sparks, and on that front, the starry huddle of Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field delivers.

Friday night’s Palm Springs International Film Festival kicked off its opening night with the world premiere of “80 for Brady,” Kyle Marvin’s life-affirming comedy about four best friends — played by Rita Moreno, Sally Field, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin — whose love for the legendary, seven-time Super Bowl Champion quarterback cuts so deep, they embark on a quest to Houston to see the New England Patriots play the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl 51. That game resulted in the Pats digging themselves out from a 25-point hole and winning the title in overtime, a feat considered one of the greatest comeback victories in the history of the NFL.
The audience gathered at Palm Springs High School for the screening was tickled silly by the film, based on a real-life story, with laughter and applause echoing throughout the theater, most notably in scenes spotlighting cameos by Pats’ heroes: former tight end...

On Thursday night in a desert resort east of Los Angeles, the Palm Springs International Film Awards filled a cavernous convention center with an all-star lineup of honorees: Viola Davis, Cate Blanchett, Michelle Yeoh, Steven Spielberg…
And 24 hours later, the Palm Springs International Film Festival officially opened with another all-star lineup: Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field.
The venue was different and so was the level of formality and glitz. But the biggest difference was that the 10 honorees on Thursday were there representing 10 different films, including “The Woman King,” “Tar,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Fabelmans,” while Friday’s event was the world premiere of a single movie, “80 for Brady,” which stars that formidable quartet of legendary women.

Rare is the time when people aren’t talking about Tom Brady, but the NFL great proved to be the most popular topic of discussion on the red carpet in Palm Springs on Friday night.
The desert city hosted the world premiere of Paramount Pictures’ road trip comedy 80 for Brady at Richard Center for the Arts at Palm Springs High School, as its stars Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sally Field, Rita Moreno and Harry Hamlin (attending with wife Lisa Rinna) added some Hollywood star power to the opening night festivities of the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
While Brady was not in attendance — his Tampa Bay Buccaneers will soon be heading to the NFL playoffs — his key teammates on the film were keen to talk about the first-time producer who makes a cameo in director Kyle Marvin’s film. The 34th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (Psiff) is set to return in-person from Jan. 5-16 for the first time since 2020, and this year’s line-up of screenings is the most diverse the festival has ever seen, according to Psiff artistic director Lili Rodriguez.

How do you create suspense in a movie built around Super Bowl Li, the legendary 2017 matchup between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons, which saw the Patriots trail the Falcons 28-3 in the third quarter only to rally and win 34-28 in overtime? That was one of the challenges facing Kyle Marvin when he agreed to direct 80 for Brady, which will have its world premiere Jan. 6 as the opening-night film at the 34th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Kyle Marvin’s feature directorial debut, “80 for Brady,” is an epic retelling of the 2017 Super Bowl, where then-quarterback of the New England Patriots Tom Brady guided his team to a historic comeback victory. But the sports comedy is grounded in jarring realism as Brady and former Patriots like Rob Gronkowski, Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman don their old jerseys for a cinematic reenactment of the nail-biting game.
“There was a moment we had all the trailers out off set, and I had gone back to the trailers for something, and I stepped out,” Marvin told Variety. “It was Tom and Gronk, Amendola and Edelman in their period specific — Super Bowl specific — outfits. I was like, ‘Woah, this is wild.'”
