Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was slammed on social media for arguing in court that he should not be forced to sell his $3.5 million Palm Beach, Florida, penthouse in his bankruptcy case.
Giuliani filed papers opposing a group of creditors’ bid to collect their debts in his Chapter 11 bankruptcy case by selling his Palm Beach condominium.
However, the former New York City mayor’s legal team has claimed that he should be allowed to keep the property, as he intends to use it as his primary residence after selling his Manhattan apartment.
The filing states that Giuliani uses both of his residences to operate his podcast businesses, citing that each home has a “studio.”
His attorneys also argued that he wants to utilize the Palm Beach home as a studio to produce podcasts and “grow his broadcast income.”

Bruce Kessler, who directed episodes of shows including The Monkees, It Takes a Thief, The Rockford Files, McCloud and The Commish when he wasn’t driving race cars, designing boats or circling the globe in a yacht, has died. He was 88.
Kessler died Thursday at his home in Marina del Rey after a brief illness, his brother, author and columnist Stephen Kessler, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Survivors also include his wife, actress Joan Freeman, perhaps best known as the love interest of Elvis Presley’s character in Roustabout (1964). She and Kessler were together for 54 years and married for 33.
Kessler served as second-unit director on Howard Hawks’ Red Line 7000 (1965), an action film about stock cars that starred James Caan, before embarking on a three-decade career as a director for television.

People in the U.K. and around the world mourned along with the royal family when Queen Elizabeth II died on Sept. 8, 2022. Ten days after the longest-reigning British monarch’s death, her state funeral was held at Westminster Abbey in London followed by a committal service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.
Those two services were televised and streamed by millions across the globe. Given such an emotional day for the family, some have wondered what they said when they were seen talking to each other and clergy members during and after the services. Well, a couple of professional lip readers have decoded that and are revealing their conversations including who King Charles made it a point to speak with immediately following the services.

It turns out that Morgan Freeman’s first big break in show business was just kid’s stuff. After working in a few unmemorable productions, Freeman caught on with PBS’s The Electric Company, a show from the Children’s Television Workshop designed to teach basic reading skills to kids from 7 to 10 years old. The gig ran for six seasons and 780 episodes.
He next grabbed attention in 1980 with performances in Brubaker with Robert Redford and TV movie Attica, he broke out in Street Smart, which earned him the first of five Academy Award nominations. Freeman received Best Actor nominations for Oscar-winning Driving Miss Daisy (1989) and The Shawshank Redemption (1994) before winning for his Best Supporting Actor role in Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby (2004). He also received a Best Actor nomination for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in Invictius (2009).

At 86, Morgan Freeman is still basking in the glory of a breathtaking career that has earned him an Academy Award and a long list of noteworthy flicks. As everyone knows, the Tennessee-born is a legendary actor who has enthralled audiences for decades with electrifying performances and, of course, his distinct voice.
Freeman has gained an indelible place in the hearts of fans with his roles in series such as The Long Way Home & The Electric Company and movies like The Shawshank Redemption. That being said, his seemingly ageless appearance may be even more impressive than his acclaimed roles. For this Oscar-winning actor, it feels almost like time has stopped.
Morgan Freeman in The Shawshank Redemption
You might wonder, “Does he even age?” if you were to compare pictures of Freeman taken before and after over time. It is truly remarkable how little he appears to have changed over the years.

There are a lot of candidates for the title of Best Stephen King Movie Adaptation, from Stanley Kubrick's take on "The Shining" to Rob Reiner's 1986 classic "Stand by Me." But it's clear that the most popular of them is "The Shawshank Redemption," written and directed by Frank Darabont in 1994. It's a movie that's not just beloved, it's literally the number one rated movie of all time on IMDb.
King himself was always a fan of Darabont's adaptations. Unlike with Stanley Kubrick, there were no major, irreconcilable creative differences between Darabont and King. Even when Darabont made a major change to the source material, like with controversial ending to "The Mist," King wasn't mad. Instead, he was jealous that he hadn't thought of the idea first. Even Darabont's first-ever adaptation of King's work, the little-known 1984 short "The Woman in the Room," was impressive to the renowned author. In a 2014 piece for Oscars.

The FBI has identified and arrested actor Nolan Freeman for his alleged involvement on the attack against the Capitol on January 6 in 2021. The NCIS and Shameless actor was arrested on March 19 in Carson City, Nevada, after surveillance footage revealed that Freeman allegedly crawled through a shattered window and illegally entered the Capitol building while the certification of the 2020 election was underway. Freeman’s arrest follows an investigation that involved a grand jury subpoenaing airline records around the January 6 attack on the Capitol. It found that the Days of Our Lives actor traveled from Sacramento to Washington D.C. on January 4, 2021, and returned home to Nevada on January 8. The FBI traced his phone records and alleges that his mobile phone was inside the Capitol building during the insurrection. The FBI Statement of Fact revealed that Freeman allegedly spent a total of 26 minutes inside the Capitol and was seen in the Upper House Door,...

Most know Karen Gillan as Nebula in the MCU or from the newer Jumanji films. Or if you’re a weirdo like me you remember her from her great work in the third season of Ntsf:sd:suv. As her time as Nebula draws to a close, she’s been popping up in some really interesting Indie work. While her role was brief, she had quite the screen presence in last year’s Next Exit. And I’m not sure if you’re aware but Russell Crowe has been absolutely killing it lately. So I was very excited to see Gillan and Crowe team up for a new crime thriller.
Sleeping Dogs takes the viewer on a very interesting journey of discovery. Gillan’s Laura Baines is quite layered and allows a little more grey area.

Following its premiere at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival last year, “Femme” is finally set for theatrical release in the United States on March 22 in New York and March 29 in Los Angeles. The British thriller from Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping is adapted from their 2021 BAFTA-nominated short and stars Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and George MacKay. Utopia has acquired stateside distribution rights.
“Femme” follows Jules (Stewart-Jarrett), who is targeted in a horrific homophobic attack, destroying his life and career. Some time after that event he encounters Preston (MacKay), one of his attackers, in a gay sauna. He wants revenge.
With a critics consensus that reads, “Sexually charged and riddled with tension, Femme redresses the noir genre and may leave audiences biting their nails to the nub,” the movie holds fresh at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Read our full review round-up below.

Turning down a job can sometimes come back to haunt you, especially if you're an actor who passed up a role in an acclaimed horror movie and later regretted the decision. This scenario may be difficult to imagine. After all, who would pass up the chance to be in a movie or TV show, right? As fans, though, it can be easy to forget that the movie business -- for all its glory, fanfare, legacy, and importance -- is, at the end of the day, just that: a business. A person in any industry may decline a job that doesn't feel like good fit, doesn't align with their schedule, or maybe would have them working with a filmmaker or co-star they unsure of for one reason or another.

Hiroyuki Sanada is one of Hollywood’s most well-known and respected Japanese actors. Although he started his career in Japanese and Hong Kong action films, over the years, he has gained prominence as an excellent dramatic actor. He has starred in some very well-known projects like Shōgun, John Wick: Chapter 4, The Wolverine, and 47 Ronin.

An empathy-for-all approach to a queer revenge thriller about the attraction that forms between a Black drag queen and his white attacker after a homophobic assault? That’s the slippery thrust of queer British filmmakers Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping’s “Femme,” starring Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and George MacKay as East Londoners who share a perverse romantic connection founded on revenge. It’s a movie in revenge noir drag of its own, concealing a sinister love story.
As “Femme” begins, Jules is coming off the high of another fabulous performance under the drag persona Aphrodite Banks. Still in full garb, he stops at a convenience store where he’s at first cruised by Preston, a tatted-up criminal cutting an alluring figure under a streetlamp. But Preston soon after brutally beats Jules to impress his rabbling macho band of friends, leaving Jules naked and collapsed in the street.

Intentionally or not, Sleeping Dogs invites comparison to Memento. In Adam Cooper’s steadfastly self-serious directorial debut, a bedraggled ex-homicide detective, Roy Freeman (Russell Crowe), is tasked with solving a brutal murder that he can’t recall due to his memory loss. But the comparison to Christopher Nolan’s breakout doesn’t do Sleeping Dogs any favors. For one, we know we’re in trouble from the moment we see Freeman stumbling through a decrepit apartment, its otherwise sparse walls adorned with handwritten messages that exist as much for his benefit as ours, like the unfortunately hilarious “You Have Alzheimers.”
From the start, the film lays it on thick. Freeman’s apartment has all the markers of someone whose mind is slowing deteriorating: staplers that have been left in water glasses, melted pieces of technology in the microwave, and half-eaten meals on top of furniture. The man wears the thickest...

In our cancel-happy times, there’s hardly room for an empathy-for-all approach to identity-based violence and abuse. Enter Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping’s “Femme,” a bruiser of a British queer revenge thriller that plunges straight into the gray areas that can form between attacker and victim.
Retrofitting the pages of ‘90s erotic suspense films to a 2023 sensibility, “Femme” stars Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (breakout of “Culprits”) as a Black drag queen who, after being assaulted by a white, closeted street thug played by George MacKay, reaps revenge by seducing his attacker, who later doesn’t recognize him out of drag. But in the process, fraught tenderness and attraction form between Jules (Stewart-Jarrett) and Preston (MacKay), making Jules’ calculated act of vengeance — and the film itself — that much more complicated.

The Dodgers’ new $325 million man was an instant hit in his first live batting practice.
Teammates raved about the “nasty” stuff Yamamoto – who has yet to throw a major league pitch – displayed in his first outing since signing with his team. Yamamoto faced off against the Dodgers at their spring training complex in Camelback Ranch, Arizona.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Yamamoto told Japanese media that he was throwing at 96 mph in the 30 pitches he delivered. “I think this is not the best yet, and I’m going to keep adjusting with what I need to and it’s going to keep getting better,” he said.
First baseman Freddie Freeman said he was happy he won’t have to face Yamamoto.
“That was incredible. Nasty,” Freeman said to the Orange County Register. “To go out there, first time, all eyes on you and just dot every pitch? Very impressive.

Broome tried to save a ball from going out of bounds in the second half of Auburn’s game against Ole Miss when someone in the front row grabbed his jersey.
Thinking it was an Ole Miss fan trying to rattle him, Broome brushed the person’s arm away.
Broome turned and quickly realized it was Freeman, the Academy Award-winning actor who is a big Mississippi fan and attends many Rebels games.
“I kind of got his hand off,” Broome later told reporters. “I saw who it was and I’m a big movie guy. I probably watched one of his movies on the plane coming here.

Many people often blasphemously (and hilariously) joke around that Morgan Freeman is God. Not only because of his pitch perfect casting as God but also due to his smooth, defining and, yes, god-like is Morgan Freeman’s voice that one can’t picture penguins or parts of nature or, yes, God, without hearing the man. One reason could be that we’ve only ever really known Morgan Freeman as an older actor, not striking a chord with mainstream audiences until he was in his 50s.
Soon enough his skills, screen presences and voice had Hollywood calling every time they needed a kind wise grandfather types or a grizzled vet from either side of the the law or any type of narration in any type of film. That persona has marked him as a welcome figure throughout modern cinema – despite the nearly constant cash grabs that pad out the unfortunate bulk of his filmography.

Long before the 2019 revival of "The Twilight Zone" dropped on CBS All Access, there was the 1985 revival of the same name. This version was also not quite as well-received as the original series, but it still delivered plenty for fans of the classic series to enjoy: Fun premises, spooky characters, ominous narration, and plenty of actors who'd go on to become extremely famous. Such was the case with a segment in season 1's eighth episode named "Dealer's Choice," which gives us a delightful performance from Morgan Freeman two years before his breakout role in "Street Smart."
The story centers around a group of guys playing poker, who quickly discover that the new guy at the table is actually the Devil himself, here to claim one of their souls. Going into the episode forty years later, you'd expect Freeman to be playing the Devil. He's proven by now that he's great at playing a somewhat aloof,...

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, surprised fans when they showed up to the premiere of Bob Marley: One Love at the Carib 5 Theatre in Kingston, Jamaica. The screening was held on Jan. 23, and the Sussexes posed for photos on the red carpet with the country’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness and the first lady of Jamaica Juliet Holness.
A clip from inside the theater has surfaced of the duke and duchess being shown to their seats and appearing to hesitate as they are in the middle of an aisle several rows back from the front. Royal fans know from the late Queen Elizabeth‘s Platinum Jubilee that Harry isn’t a fan of having to sit in the middle of a row that isn’t the first row, which could explain why he didn’t look thrilled.

So starts “Miller’s Girl,” a drama-slash-psychological thriller that serves more so as an indictment of modern multilayered sexual politics than an (as marketed) after school special. As our lead character Cairo Sweet (Jenna Ortega) says, “longing” to experience something is the most dangerous force there is, and for Cairo, that longing culminates in a misguided crush and a politicized heartbreak with a professor (Martin Freeman).
High school student Cairo enrolls in a creative writing class taught by frustrated novelist Jonathan Miller (Freeman), who immediately takes a liking to her after spotting that she has a copies of both his debut novel and Henry Miller’s salacious works. “Miller’s Girl,” about a relationship that develops between a wise-beyond-her-years teenager and her intellectually undernourished teacher, feels like catnip for the circular discourse of Film Twitter, but it’s hard to tell where a study of post-#MeToo power dynamics will land with moviegoers in the real world.
Written, produced and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, the film is both impressively erudite and unrelentingly self-aware, a combination it bravely attempts but doesn’t quite fully balance. But Jenna Ortega’s movie-star confidence in the title role more than eclipses Martin Freeman’s shoe-leather character acting, a perhaps inevitable outcome given the age and gender politics exercised in its story — but not necessarily one that gets at something truly interesting.

Former President Barack Obama Wins Another Emmy, Beating Out Morgan Freeman For Outstanding Narrator
Morgan Freeman might have some fierce competition as former President Barack Obama beat him to the Emmy award for outstanding narrator.
The 44th U.S. president won the award for his voicework in Working: What We Do All Day. In addition to Freeman in Our Universe, Obama was up against Mahershala Ali in Chimp Empire, Angela Bassett in Good Night Oppy and Pedro Pascal in Patagonia: Life on the Edge of the World.
Working: What We Do All Day is a docu-series that follows the lives of 12 people working in the home care, tech and hospitality industries. It was inspired by Studs Terkel’s nonfiction book called Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do.

Anyone who knows me would say my taste runs ever so slightly counter to the popular opinion but up top I wanted to shout out some big titles that I appreciate but didn’t quite make my favorites list. Oftentimes it feels like the days of true-blue horror icons are behind us, but Gerard Johnstone and Akela Cooper’s M3GAN was a veritable hoot that gave us an instantly iconic tiny terror in tights who more than lived up to the memes and showed everyone that hasn’t quite come around yet on HBO’s Girls just how #mother Allison Williams is. Also, that Skatt Brothers “Walk the Night” needle drop took up residence in my head last January and has not left. Talk to Me was one of the more intense in-theater experiences I had this year, and though it lost something the more I sat with it, what...

Exactly 20 years after he made history as the first Black performer to win a Golden Globe for a multi-part limited series, Jeffrey Wright is widely expected to triumph on his second general notice from the same organization. According to Gold Derby’s odds, he is the frontrunner in the 2024 Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor race based on his work in “American Fiction,” which is also set to compete for Best Comedy/Musical Film and Best Screenplay. If Wright at least prevails and thereby maintains his perfect Golden Globes record, he will become the third Black winner in his category’s seven-decade existence.

It's astonishing to think what an enormous hit Tom Shadyac's film "Bruce Almighty" was when it came out back in 2003. Jim Carrey played Bruce, a mid-level TV reporter who is selfish and a little disappointed with his job. When a rival named Evan (Steve Carell) is promoted above him, Bruce wails to God that life is unfair. Astonishingly, God Almighty (Morgan Freeman) appears to Bruce in order to give him a lesson. For one week, and limited to only a small portion of Buffalo, New York, Bruce will be given the infinite power of the Divine, teaching him that being God isn't as easy as all that. Bruce uses his Godly powers for petty, personal things like parting traffic and increasing the bust size of his girlfriend Grace (Jennifer Aniston).
Naturally, Bruce's cavalier use of power -- and his lazy acumen when it comes to answering prayers -- leads to chaos.

This post contains spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Since its very first episode, Star Trek: Lower Decks has excavated the most embarrassing parts of Star Trek lore, refusing to let even tangential parts of the franchise go forgotten. The Next Generation‘s second-worst enemy race the Pakleds became major antagonists in Lower Decks, and Boimler showed unironic appreciation for a Tom Paris commemorative plate. Heck, even the Space Fun Helmet made a brief appearance.
So it’s no surprise that Lower Decks would eventually get around to one of the great debates in Star Trek history: how do you solve a problem like Tuvix? Directed by Cliff Bole, the Voyager season two episode “Tuvix” used that old Trek standby, a transporter accident, to pose a knotty moral quandary. When an exotic plant disrupts the transporter beam carrying Vulcan security chief Tuvok and Talaxian guide/cook Neelix, the two combine into one being,...

You have to squint awfully hard to see a unifying plot theme on Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 4 Episode 4, but it's not impossible.
While the women are having their Orion adventure -- engaging in deadly drinking games, exploring hump dungeons, and examining the perils of defying expectations (mostly lots of stabbing) -- the guys have to delve deep into conflict resolution strategies.
It's a delightful reversal of traditional gender norms and a helluva hoot at the same time.
It's a matter of record that while Orions have been represented in multiple Trek series and films, they are a species never truly included in core Starfleet until D'vana Tendi joined the Cerritos.
Over the run of Lower Decks, she has refuted many of the stereotypes that have persisted ever since Tos Kirk cut his swath through a cross-section of female aliens.

The fourth episode of the fourth season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," called "Something Borrowed, Something Green," sees Lieutenant Boimler (Jack Quaid) and Lieutenant Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) sharing a dorm. In previous seasons, when the characters were merely ensigns, they slept in bunks in a hallway. They now have an enclosed private room for the first time, a wrinkle that soon has the two at each other's throats. Notably, they have come to blows over which of them gets to mist the room's adorable bonsai tree. Low-stakes animosity immediately forms. To make matters worse, Boimler's and Rutherford's respective holodeck hours have been double-booked, and they will have to share the day's recreation time together as well.
Curiously, both Boimler and Rutherford enter the holodeck dressed as Mark Twain, eager to spend a few quiet hours on an old-timey Mississippi riverboat. Affecting Twainian accents, the two begin by hurling insults, but...

On Wednesday, federal judge Beryl Howell in Washington, D.C., ruled that Rudy Giuliani was liable for defaming two 2020 Georgia election workers.
Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss of Atlanta sued former President Donald Trump‘s lawyer for wrongfully telling George state officials that they had committed election crimes to keep Trump out of office.
Despite evidence from multiple investigations that debunked any election fraud myths, Giuliani continued to promote the conspiracies at the expense of Freeman and Moss.
Howell ruled that Giuliani’s actions warranted a trial for “defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, civil conspiracy and punitive damages claims.”
Political adviser to Giuliani, Ted Goodman, said in a statement that Howell’s decision served as “a prime example of the weaponization of our justice system, where the process is the punishment.”

Rudy Giuliani has been found liable for defaming two Georgia election workers he claimed were part of a conspiracy to rig the 2020 presidential election.
U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell also ordered that a trial be held on proposed damages to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the election workers that the former New York mayor had accused of manipulating votes.
The judgment came in response to the plaintiffs’ motion for sanctions against Giuliani for failing to comply with his discovery obligations in the case. Giuliani was a key figure in advancing then-President Donald Trump’s unfounded claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.
In her opinion, Howell noted that Giuliani had turned over “a single page of communications, blobs of indecipherable data, a sliver of the financial documents required to be produced, and a declaration and two stipulations from Giuliani, who indicates in the latter stipulations his preference...

A federal judge has found former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani liable for defamation after spreading conspiracy theories about two Georgia election workers.
The court additionally found that Giuliani failed to comply with the legal requirements of evidentiary discovery, ruling that he “refused to comply with his discovery obligations and thwarted plaintiffs Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss’ procedural rights to obtain any meaningful discovery in this case.”
“Giuliani has submitted declarations with concessions turned slippery on scrutiny and excuses designed to shroud the insufficiency of his discovery compliance,” Judge Beryl A.

Film Noir has gone through many different permutations since the days of Sam Spade pistol-whipping gangsters. We’ve had Neo-Noir, Neon-Noir, Western Noir and Tech-Noir, yet to the best of my knowledge we have never had Queer Noir. This feeling was shared by directorial team Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping who have decided to rectify it with Femme, a neon-infused revenge thriller with LGBT characters firmly at its centre.
The film follows Jules (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) a drag queen assaulted in the street by Preston (George MacKay) a young thug who had been checking him out earlier that night. Left shaken by the incident he withdraws from his career and his community until by sheer chance he spots Preston at a sauna. Plotting to seduce and expose the blatant closet case, Jules embarks on a dangerous path that explores the performative nature of masculinity, leaving both men rocked to their core.

Morgan Freeman Shares Personal Connection to ‘761st Tank Battalion: The Original Black Panthers’ Doc
For Academy Award winner and Air Force veteran Morgan Freeman, making this gripping two-hour documentary about the Black Panthers—the only Black tank unit to see combat during World War II—was an important mission. 761st Tank Battalion: The Original Black Panthers premieres Sunday, August 20 on the History Channel. As detailed below, the doc features an interview with one of the last surviving members of the 761st Battalion, as well as the current and first Black Secretary of Defense, Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III. “New and archival interviews, period footage, still photographs, and new commentary and stories from family and relatives of the Black Panther soldiers” also help shape the powerful story, per History Channel, in addition to “insights and opinions from prominent historians on WWII and experts on race and inequality in America.” Here, Freeman (who is featured in the film in addition to executive producing it) talks about...
