Back In Action: Cameron Diaz Returns After 10 Years Away, Starring In Netflix Comedy With Jamie Foxx
It's been a decade since Cameron Diaz last took to our screens, playing the villainous Miss Hannigan in 2014's Jamie Foxx co-starring Annie. But now Diaz is back in action in, er, Back In Action, Netflix's buzzy new action comedy. The Charlie's Angels and Shrek actor stars alongside Foxx in the film, which sees the pair play suburban parents with a big secret: they used to be spies! Check out the first images from the film below:
Hailing from Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon – who's written this one alongside Brendan O’Brien (Bad Neighbours) – Back In Action follows Emily (Diaz) and Matt (Foxx), two seemingly average parents who used to be elite CIA agents. Years after giving up spycraft to start a family however, the couple's low-key suburban life is upended when their cover is blown and they find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage. And what a...

Per the official logline, “when a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Hudson) is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Netflix kicked off February with news of the streaming service’s 2024 film slate.
The steamer, which landed 18 Oscar nominations this year – including seven for Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” – will debut numerous populist films in 2024, including new projects from Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, Jenifer Lopez, Millie Bobby Brown, Eddie Murphy, and more.
Well-known directors with movies set to premiere on Netflix this year include Tyler Perry (two titles), McG, Richard Linklater, and Lee Daniels. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will also make his directorial debut with “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story.”
On the awards front, while it’s too early to tell which projects might pop – and what movies Netflix might acquire for release this year, similarly to how the studio purchased Todd Haynes’ “May December” at the Cannes Film Festival last year – titles to flag include “The Piano Lesson” from Malcolm Washington with Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington,...

Cameron Diaz will be Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx on Netflix and the Charlie’s Angels star is defending her co-star against claims he was challenging to work with.
In a new interview, Diaz is breaking her silence about working with Foxx and reports that suggested that starring alongside the Django Unchained star would affect her career.
“I really hate all of the things that were being said about our set at the time,” Diaz said on the Lipstick on the Rim podcast about the rumors sprawling in the media while filming Back in Action. “You just want to scream at the top of your lungs, like, ‘What are you talking about?’”
Diaz continued praising Foxx adding, “Jamie is, like, the cheerleader for the entire crew. Everybody loves him. We have so much fun on the set with him and he’s just a professional on every level.”

Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" is already a huge box office success. According to Variety, the film made over $155 million in its opening weekend, making it the biggest debut of the year. Besides its genius marketing campaign and star-studded cast, one of the things viewers will remember about the film is its attention to detail.
"Barbie" includes so many clever Easter eggs, from nods to discontinued toys like Midge and Sugar Daddy Ken to pop culture references like "The Wizard of Oz" and "The Matrix." One of the movie's most subtle Easter eggs, however, may have involved another popular doll franchise: Bratz. According to a popular TikTok theory, "Barbie" features a secret cameo from the Bratz characters Cloe, Sasha, Yasmin, and Jade. If you failed to catch it, let me explain.

Chicago – The Dwayne Johnson formula is what it is, as it seems for about three to five films a year. A disaster strikes, but the Johnson character has loved ones among the victims, and in his background there is enough expertise to rescue them. “Skyscraper” is the latest.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
“Skyscraper” had to be the easiest “elevator pitch” in film history… “Die Hard” meets “The Towering Inferno.” In this one, Johnson is ex-FBI and a security expert for the tallest building in the world… in Hong Kong. So when a fire gets lit in that high tower, and Johnson’s family is trapped inside, well, the rest of it becomes the formula. It still works, in a “B” movie kind of way, because even though the formula is in place, it’s always weirdly fascinating as to how it’s going to work, and often it is Dwayne Johnson – and...

Alright, it’s roughly the Summer midpoint, so let’s escape the “dog days” by heading into the cool confines of the local multiplex and catch a flick that practically screams, “big, loud, blockbuster”. This isn’t a new thing, for the past several decades (maybe since the late 70’s), the Summer action extravaganza has been the domain of several stars that seem to be playing much the same character in every flick (that’s the case with “movie personalities” since the dawn of cinema), who seem to have almost been biological engineered for such “heavy lifting”. For the seventies it was Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson, then with the 80’s they “flexed” their talents to greater heights with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Toward the end of the decade we got TV stars like Bruce Willis and martial arts masters such as Jean Claude Van-Damn and Steven Seagal. Now...

Dwayne Johnson reteams once again with director Rawson Marshall Thurber for Skyscraper, after the critically mixed and modest box office reception Central Intelligence two years previously.
Global disaster flick Skyscraper sees Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson star as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Ford, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building… above the fire line.

“Skyscraper” doesn’t expand the scope or the rules of the summer action blockbuster, but it does follow the recipe in a supremely satisfying way.
So yes, you’ll recognize the DNA of other movies here — not just obvious antecedents like “Die Hard” and “The Towering Inferno,” but also “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” and even “The Lady from Shanghai” — but that familiarity won’t interfere with the vertiginous thrills, the breathtaking stunts (and CG), and the near-constant state of adrenaline-fueled action.
Writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber (“Central Intelligence”) sets up the pins to knock them down later: there’s nothing we learn in the first 10 minutes of the film that won’t come up again in the last 10 minutes. Still, he sets up an impressive array of obstacles, as well as characters who are solid enough to overcome them.
