Durban, Aug 31 (Ians) Australia have handed big-hitting finisher Tim David a maiden Odi call-up for the upcoming series against South Africa, giving him the chance to make a last-minute entry into a World Cup squad for the second time in as many years.
David smashed 64 off just 28 balls to play a pivotal role in Australia’s 111-run win over South Africa in the T20I series opener. His addition in the Odi squad boosts the Australian middle-order missing Steve Smith (wrist injury), and Glenn Maxwell (ankle injury and impending the birth of his first child).
“Tim is already here for the T20 series which offers an opportunity to see how his game can translate to the one-day format. He will provide an extra option for us in that power role at the back end of an innings,” said selector Tony Dodemaide

Melbourne, Aug 18 (Ians) Australia’s premier batter Steve Smith and left-arm pace spearhead Mitchell Starc have been ruled out of the white-ball tour of South Africa due to injuries to the wrist and groin, respectively.
A report in cricket.com.au said despite the duo missing the South Africa tour, they are expected to be fully fit for the Men’s Odi World Cup in India from October 5 to November 19. As a result, Mitchell Marsh will be taking over as Australia’s captain for both white-ball formats in South Africa.
Starc’s absence means uncapped left-arm quick Spencer Johnson will remain on for the Odi leg of the tour after being previously named in the T20I squad. Smith’s absence means Marnus Labuschagne is added to the Odi squad, with Ashton Turner called in as his replacement in the T20I squad.

Melbourne, Aug 15 (Ians) Australia captain Pat Cummins has given every indication he will be fit for this year’s Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup by declaring his injured wrist is recovering well and he is on track to return prior to the six-week tournament in India.
Cummins fractured his wrist while batting during the final Ashes Test against England at The Oval last month and was initially diagnosed to be sidelined for up to six weeks ahead of Australia’s first game at the World Cup against hosts India on October 8.
But Cummins has allayed any fears that he will be battling to prove his fitness prior to that clash, with the fast bowler aiming to travel to South Africa next month to join up with his teammates during their five-match series against the Proteas and then return to playing during the three-game series against India at the end of September.

Melbourne, Aug 7 (Ians) All-rounder Mitch Marsh will get the first chance of becoming Aaron Finch’s successor as Australia’s T20 captain after he was announced as skipper for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa.
Finch retired from T20I cricket earlier this year after a successful 76-match stint as captain that was highlighted by guiding Australia to the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup title in Dubai in 2021 and selectors have taken their time on settling on his replacement, reports Icc.
Marsh will be given first crack on winning the top job, with the talented all-rounder named captain for the T20 component of Australia’s white-ball tour of South Africa that commences later this month.
While Marsh has only been named as skipper for the upcoming South Africa tour, chief selector George Bailey believes the 31-year-old is capable of holding the job on a full-time basis.

Dharamsala, May 18 (Ians) After suffering a 15-run loss to Delhi Capitals in Ipl 2023, Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan admitted that his decision to give left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar the final over backfired, while being critical of the performance of his fast-bowlers in power-play.
The ineffective performance of his fast-bowlers meant Dhawan had to give the ball to Brar for the last three out of five overs, with Ellis bowling two. The ploy backfired in the last two overs as Ellis was hit for 18 runs while Brar gave away 23 runs as Delhi made 213/2, with Rilee Rossouw top-scoring with 82 not out off 37 balls.
“My decision of bowling the spinner (Brar) in the last over backfired. The momentum went there. Before that my fast bowler (Ellis) went for 18 runs. Those two overs cost us the game,” said Dhawan to broadcasters after the match ended.
“We didn’t bowl really well in the first six overs.

New Delhi, May 12 (Ians) Time and again, it’s been the batting, which has let Delhi Capitals (DC) down in the ongoing Ipl 2023 and the David Warner led side will look to sort it out when they face a desperate Punjab Kings (Pbks) in the Match No 59 of the season at Arun Jaitley Stadium, here on Friday.
Both teams are coming off crushing defeats in their last matches respectively. Delhi lost to Chennai on a spin-friendly Chepauk track while Punjab Kings suffered a last-ball defeat against Kkr at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The Capitals are placed at the bottom of the table with eight points from 11 matches and even if they win their next three matches, it will only take them to 14 points, which might not be enough to earn them a place in the top four.

Mohali, April 20 (Ians) Despite a bruised rib, Faf du Plessis hit 84 off 56 balls on a pitch which wasn’t easy for stroke play at the Is Bindra Pca Stadium while Mohammed Siraj shined in both powerplay and death overs to pick his career-best 4/21 in the league, propelling Royal Challengers Bangalore to a 24-run win over Punjab Kings and their first victory outside home in the ongoing Ipl 2023, here on Thursday.

Mohali, April 20 (Ians) A terrific four-fer (4/21) from fast bowler Mohammed Siraj helped Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Punjab Kings by 24 runs and register their first away win of Ipl 2023 at the Is Bindra Pca Stadium, here on Thursday.
After Faf du Plessis’s impressive 84 of 56 balls took Bangalore to 174/4, Siraj breathed fire in the powerplay and death overs to clinch his best-ever figures in the Ipl. He was well-supported by Wanindu Hasaranga, Wayne Parnell and Harshal Patel.
With some superb fielding coming into play, Bangalore managed to bowl out Punjab for 150 in 18.2 overs.
Siraj began his superb show by trapping Atharva Taide lbw on his second ball after the review showed the ball crashing into leg-stump. Hasaranga struck on the first ball of the third over by castling Matthew Short with a googly.
Siraj returned in the fourth over to trap Liam Livingstone lbw, which was given ‘not out’ by the on-field umpire.

Mohali, April 20 (Ians) Sam Curran continues to captain Punjab Kings in absence of injured Shikhar Dhawan as he won the toss and elected to bowl first against a Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Is Bindra Pca Stadium on Thursday.
While Punjab enter Thursday’s match on the back of a two-wicket win coming in the last over against Lucknow Super Giants, Bangalore suffered an eight-run defeat against the Chennai Super Kings, despite fine half-centuries from Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell.
A win for Punjab will help them level with Lucknow and the Rajasthan Royals on points. After winning the toss, Curran said Liam Livingstone and Nathan Ellis come into the playing eleven, with Kagiso Rabada and Sikandar Raza, the player of the match in Punjab’s last game, being the omissions.
“We did well in the last game and we’ll take some confidence, conditions will not change a lot.

Mohali, April 13 (Ians) Hardik Pandya returned to captain Gujarat Titans as the defending champions won the toss and elected to bowl first against Punjab Kings at the Is Bindra Pca Stadium on Thursday.
Both teams are into this game after facing defeats in their last match. While Gujarat lost to Kolkata Knight Riders as Rinku Singh hit five sixes on the last five balls, Punjab went down to Sunrisers Hyderabad despite captain Shikhar Dhawan making 99 not out in a batting masterclass.
“Just looks like a good wicket, and from whatever I’ve seen it’s good to chase. Was a one-in-a-million defeat (to Kolkata). We are the kind of team that takes it with a smile. Played good cricket until that last over. It happens. It’s a fresh game. We’ll come out and smile, and throw some punches,” said Hardik, who missed the game against Kolkata due to being unwell.

Mohali, April 1 (Ians) Bhanuka Rajapaksa timed the ball well to slam a delightful half-century, while Arshdeep Singh picked three wickets as Punjab Kings opened their Ipl 2023 campaign with a seven-run win via Dls method against Kolkata Knight Riders at the I.S. Bindra Pca Stadium on Saturday.
On a flat pitch and fast outfield, Punjab were threatening to score upwards of 200, reaching 100 runs in the first ten overs. But Kolkata, whose bowlers majorly struggled, picked four wickets in the second half as Punjab could make only 91 runs to end up at a score nine short of 200.
All of Punjab’s batters got starts after being asked to bat first, but only Rajapaksa could reach his half-century, with the help of five fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 156.25.

Mohali, April 1 (Ians) First-time Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana has won the toss and elected to bowl first against Punjab Kings in the second match of Ipl 2023 at the Is Bindra Pca Stadium, here on Saturday.
After winning the toss, Rana said Tim Southee, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are the four foreign players in Kolkata’s playing eleven. “It has rained in the last two days so there would be some moisture. I am excited because very few people get this opportunity (of captaining an Ipl team).”

Sydney, Oct 21 (Ians) Legendary Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist has said the loss of back-up wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis due to a freak injury on the golf course just a couple of days before the commencement of the Super 12 stage of the Icc T20 World Cup is “significant”, and added young allrounder Cameron Green is the right replacement for the injured player.
Green beat the likes of Alex Carey, Josh Philippe, Ben McDermott and Nathan Ellis for the spot that unexpectedly became available in the 15-member squad.
“It’s an opportune time to get Green in,” Gilchrist said on Sen Wa Breakfast on Friday. “I don’t think we should take too lightly that Inglis is more than a wicketkeeper. He’s a versatile batting option that can slide up and down that order from one to seven.

Sydney, Oct 20 (Ians) Ahead of their first Super 12 match in Icc Men’s T20 World Cup against New Zealand here on Saturday, Australia have announced all-rounder Cameron Green as a replacement for injured Josh Inglis in their 15-man squad, with the approval of the Event Technical Committee.
Inglis, the wicketkeeper-batter who has played nine T20Is for Australia and was seen as a backup to the main keeper Matthew Wade, suffered a freak injury while playing golf in Sydney on Wednesday. He sustained a deep cut in his right hand when his golf club snapped at the shaft and sliced through, resulting in surgery being needed for the same and requiring stitches.
Green, who has seven T20I appearances, hit two half-centuries for Australia when filling in for veteran opener David Warner at the top of the order during their bilateral T20I series against India in September. Australia may...

Sydney, Oct 20 (Ians) Australia wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the Men’s T20 World Cup after suffering a hand injury, which head coach Andrew McDonald called “an incredibly freak accident” while playing golf in Sydney.
Inglis, who has played nine T20Is for Australia, sustained a deep cut in his right hand when his golf club snapped at the shaft and sliced through. His exit from the tournament now sees Australia in a conundrum on who would be the preferred injury replacement.
“An incredibly freak accident to Josh, unfortunately. Playing the second hole at New South Wales, a short par three, he hit a six iron and as he made contact with the ground, the shaft snapped around the grip area and cut into his hands. It’s not looking good for Josh,” said McDonald on Sen Radio’s Whateley show.

Perth, Oct 9 (Ians) England beat Australia by eight runs in a thrilling first T20I to take 1-0 lead in the three-match series at the Perth Stadium, here on Sunday.
The win marked England’s first victory in men’s T20Is in Australia in 11 years. Their first and only win in Australia in a T20I came in 2011 in Adelaide when they won by one wicket. Since then, England lost all six T20Is they played in Australia until the game on Sunday.
Put in to bat, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales treated Australia’s second-string attack – none of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell made the long trip west – with disdain and recorded a 132-run opening partnership to put England on course for a big total.
It was the highest men’s T20I first-wicket partnership in Australia, and England’s second highest in the format.

Going into the opening match, the Indian team management wanted some more inputs on the opening and middle order batting and the quick bowling options as senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah is still not ready to play while senior bowler Mohd Shami had to withdraw from the series due to a Covid positive test before the start of the series.
Though former India skipper Virat Kohli struck his 71st international century in the match against Afghanistan in Asia Cup Super Fours, the batting still did not have a settled look as opener K.L Rahul had just returned from a lengthy injury break. The question of the all-rounder in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja too was looking.
The first T20I match against Australia was to provide some answers to these conundrums. But that did not happen in the end as India lost the match by four wickets to concede a 0-1 lead in the three-match series.

Mohali, Sep 21 (Ians) All-rounder Cameron Green, playing as an opener in professional cricket for the time, took India by surprise and along with Matthew Wade led Australia to a thumping 4-wicket win in the first T20I and a 1-0 lead in the three-match series here on Tuesday.
After a disastrous final over in which Hardik Pandya blasted him for three back-to-back sixes, Green redeemed himself and played an imposing knock, smashing eight fours and four sixes in a 30-ball 61 at the Punjab Cricket Association Is Bindra Stadium.
Despite opening the innings for the very first time, the 23-year-old didn’t look nervous at all in front of a packed stadium. On the other hand, an experienced Indian bowling line-up looked clueless, till the time Green remained at the crease.
Chasing a big target of 209 runs, Australian openers Aaron Finch and Cameron Green made their intent clear from the word go.
