Exclusive: Amblin Television has acquired the rights to the novel Friends Like These, the new thriller from New York Times Bestselling author Kimberly McCreight, and will developing as a series. McCreight will also adapt the script with Amblin’s co-Presidents of Television Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey exec producing. Alex Maggioni, SVP of television, will work with Frank and Falvey on the day-to-day development of the project.
The novel follows five friends who gather at a picture perfect country house in the Catskills for a co-ed bachelor weekend. It’s been a decade since graduation, but they have remained devoted to one another, forever bound by the mysterious and tragic death of Alice, their sixth member, during senior year. But the “bachelor weekend” is just a front – they’re actually gathering for a staged intervention for Keith, Alice’s college boyfriend, now a successful art dealer caught in a downward spiral of opioid addiction.

Nicole Kidman is attached to executive produce a series adaptation of the Kimberly McCreight novel “A Good Marriage” currently in development at Amazon, Variety has learned exclusively.
Kidman will executive produce under her Blossom Films banner, along with Blossom Films’ Per Saari. The project falls under Blossom Films’ first-look deal at Amazon. David Farr is attached to write the adaptation. Farr previously created Amazon’s series adaptation of “Hanna,” with Farr having also written the screenplay for the film on which the series was based. His other credits include creating AMC’s adaptation of “The Night Manager” and writing for the BBC One series “Spooks.”

Reese Witherspoon will produce young adult adaptation The Outliers.
The actress and filmmaker is teaming with Lionsgate to tackle Kimberly McCreight's upcoming fantasy trilogy, reports Variety.
The first book, which will arrive in 2015, centres around a young woman whose friend goes missing only to reappear with a strange group called the Outliers.
They claim to be able to harness the power of human intuition, but when the hero joins them she soon finds herself on the run with her life at stake.
Witherspoon will next be seen in Devil's Knot, The Good Lie and Inherent Vice. She is serving as a producer on Gone Girl.
Witherspoon is not currently attached to appear in The Outliers.
