Let’s be real. If you had to name the most badass action movie of the past few years, what’s the first flick that comes to mind? Yeah yeah, John Wick might be all the rage for teenagers, Liam Neeson continues to do his geriatric Charlie Bronson, and you can never discount Jason Statham and his brand of brutal butt-kicking. But come on, as far as violently visceral and scintillatingly satisfying underdog tales loaded with realistic fisticuffs and gore-sodden gunfights – nobody does it better than Nobody! Indeed, the 2021 cinematic blitzkrieg starring Bob Odenkirk as an unassuming everyman by day and certified ass-kicker by night hit all the right notes to deliver a vicious and delicious revenge dish for the ages.
With that being said, did you know that a Nobody 2 is currently back in the works? Did you know there were discussions about making a Nobody and John Wick crossover movie?...

Over the last ten years, former stuntman David Leitch has directed such films as Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, Bullet Train, and the upcoming The Fall Guy. While he keeps busy directing action films, he also produces them, with two Leitch productions being Nobody and Violent Night, both of which were released by Universal Pictures. Talking to Collider, Leitch and fellow producer Kelly McCormick confirmed that Universal is really invested in building Nobody and Violent Night franchises – so Nobody 2 and Violent Night 2 are both heading toward production!
Directed by Ilya Naishuller from a screenplay by Derek Kolstad, Nobody starred Bob Odenkirk as as Hutch Mansell, an unassuming family man who cowers and folds during a home invasion. His post-traumatic shame disorder reignites a long-cooled fire within, and he summons a secret lethal skill set for a revenge mission, only to see it backfire spectacularly and put his family in greater jeopardy.

Bob Odenkirk is ready to, as he puts it, “get his ass handed to him.” The Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star is reteaming with Derek Kolstad, screenwriter on 2021’s Nobody, on a new action film, Normal, which is among the hottest projects being shopped to buyers at the European Film Market in chilly Berlin this week (by WME Independent).
Ben Wheatley (Meg 2: The Trench, Free Fire) is on board to direct the film, which will star Odenkirk as Ulysses, a temporary sheriff in the sleepy rust belt town of Normal who gets caught up in a deep criminal conspiracy. Kolstad, who also penned the John Wick franchise, will produce together with Odenkirk and Normal producer Marc Provissiero, with Josh Adler from Circle of Confusion as executive producer.
Nobody transformed Odenkirk into an unlikely action star, playing Hutch Mansell, a humdrum family man with a secret past as a professional assassin.

Nobody 2 is still very much a thing, with Connie Nielsen and Bob Odenkirk set to return: more on the follow-up here.
Filed amongst the surprise hits of the last few years is 2021’s action movie Nobody. Starring Bob Odenkirk and featuring a spectacular fight sequence on public transport, the modestly-priced film earned a handsome return at the box office. Not bad for a film that at one stage, nobody (arf) was willing to back.
Ilya Naishuller directed the movie, that was penned by Derek Kolstad (he of John Wick fame). Co-starring Conne Nielsen, there was instantly talk of Nobody 2 once the first film did the business it did. Yet what looked to have been a sizeable stumbling block was the health of its lead. Bob Odenkirk suffered a heart attack in July 2021, eventually revealing that his heart had stopped altogether. That didn’t necessarily point to the idea...

Many Hollywood stars have found their own spot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Bob Odenkirk doesn’t plan to follow.
The Better Call Saul actor told The Independent in a recent interview that while he’s “always looking for dynamics in my career,” he doesn’t think a role in a Marvel film would be a good fit for him.
“I always like to keep things grounded, relatable and smaller. I don’t think I’m built for that world,” he said. “I’m built for characters that make you feel like that guy could live next door.”
Throughout his career, Odenkirk has made his name with several comedy projects, including writing for Saturday Night Live and most recently starring in Lucky Hank, but his role in the 2021 film Nobody was much different than others he has played.

Bob Odenkirk better call his trainer because the “Better Call Saul” star is dead-set on becoming the action movie hero.
The Emmy winner revealed during the 2022 Venice Film Festival while promoting Cecilia Miniucchi’s “Worlds Apart” that his turn as attorney Saul in the “Breaking Bad” prequel series inspired his hitman role in “Nobody.”
“I was very surprised by ‘Nobody.’ I had initiated that project because I had a feeling that the character I was developing in ‘Better Call Saul’ was the kind of character you see in an action film,” Odenkirk explained, via Deadline. “He has earnest desires and he was willing to sacrifice himself.”
Odenkirk added, “I still train multiple times a week, and if I get my way, you’re going to see me doing more action. I found the action sequences a great deal of fun and close to doing sketch comedy. I love the early Jackie Chan films,...

Russian filmmakers had been doing their best to build up new international cultural relations and embed our country into a global art world. Vladimir Putin has unearthed the hatchet and buried all these efforts by our national talents.
On Feb. 24, President Putin declared war on Ukraine in all but name. But war has been waged inside Russia for years. Culture — cinema to be exact — has become a battlefield. We now have to stand up for the right to talk about issues we have been discussing for decades.
The so-called “gay propaganda” law, the infamous anti-gay legislation, has prevented LGBTQ filmmakers like me from representing my community without demeaning euphemisms. It was impossible, for example, in my country to shoot and release a series about a 15-year-old transgender girl. I’ve seen such stories seep into pitching sessions, only to be killed before getting the green light.

Welcome to the scintillating final chapter of our 2021 Streaming Wars saga! Check out the prior chapters here, here, and here. Thanks to our pals at JustWatch, we now have in our possession some insights into the fourth-quarter activities of all streaming platforms stateside, covering October through December of 2021, based primarily on JustWatch user engagement.
Will there be a 2022 Streaming Wars? Time will tell.
Netflix continues to ultimately reign supreme above all other streamers, but even across the past calendar year we’ve seen its market share among all Streaming Video On Demand (SVOD) avenues significantly shrink.
In the first edition of our Streaming Wars appraisal, Netflix enjoyed a 31% market share. That number (its ownership of all streaming subscriber eyeballs) continued to depreciate throughout 2021. In the fourth quarter of the year, the trend continued. Netflix had cornered “just” 25% of the market by year’s end, still more than anyone else, but...

WME on Monday launched WME Independent, a division to broker domestic and international film sales and film financing consulting services. It will be headed by Deborah McIntosh and Alex Walton, both of whom were most recently at Endeavor Content.
Those deals had for years been steered under Endeavor Content, but that entity is in the process of being sold off as a freestanding production entity. McIntosh and Walton will bring film sales and film financing consulting services back inside the agency and will differentiate itself in the marketplace by offering domestic and international film sales services.
“WME Independent will serve as a critical vehicle to fuel our clients’ projects while providing the global perspective necessary to navigate today’s content marketplace,” WME chief operating officer Dan Limerick said. “Deb, Alex and their team have an undeniable track record of bringing many successful artist-driven projects to fruition, and we look forward...

Bob Odenkirk shared an update on Twitter Friday night, as he continues to recover from the heart attack he suffered on the set of “Better Call Saul.”
“I am doing great. I’ve had my very own ‘It’s a wonderful life’ week of people insisting I make the world slightly better,” the actor joked via Twitter. “Wow! Thank you, I love everyone right now but let’s keep expectations reasonable!”
On July 27, Odenkirk, 58, collapsed suddenly on the “Better Call Saul” Season 6 set in New Mexico and was rushed to the hospital. While waiting for updates on his health, tens of thousands of fans and celebrities alike expressed their worries and hopes for Odenkirk’s recovery until he himself confirmed the “small heart attack” and that he’d “be back soon.”

You wait all these years for the next action stars to emerge, only to come to find that you have been waiting at the wrong doors and looking at the wrong are groups all along. After Liam Neeson knocked us all bandy nearly 15 years ago with a later career action star transformation we never saw coming in Pierre Morel’s Taken and Keanu Reeves was reborn in a role he was born for in 2014’s John Wick, we now have another unexpected action hero emerging and his name is Bob Odenkirk. A familiar face actor to many, he has thrived particularly on TV through incredible turns in the likes of Breaking Bad, its spin-off Better Call Saul and Fargo. Odenkirk’s career has been varied certainly, but even with that fact in mind, few of us ever expected Nobody.

“Nobody,” the frenetic Bob Odenkirk-led action film that premiered in March, hasn’t been greenlit for a sequel, but that hasn’t stopped Derek Kolstad from beginning to work on a potential follow-up. Ilya Naishuller, who directed “Nobody,” told JoBlo in a recent interview that Kolstad, who served as screenwriter on the original film, is kicking around ideas for a sequel.
“There’s plenty of stories that can be told in this world, with the character Hutch. I know that Derek has begun work on the sequel,” Naishuller told JoBlo. There’s been no official word on a “Nobody” sequel, but the film’s fans have reason to be optimistic, given the original film’s critical and commercial success.

The Better Call Saul star is perfectly cast as a downtrodden everyman who discovers his inner vigilante after his home is burgled
Bob Odenkirk, best known for playing a gutter lawyer in Better Call Saul, is not the first name that springs to mind to claim the aggrieved everyman action slot recently vacated by Liam Neeson. But from the opening shot – battered face cross-hatched with scratches, shackled hands effortlessly snapping open a Zippo lighter – the question is not the casting, but what took Hollywood so long to weaponise the ineffable coolness of Odenkirk.
He plays Hutch Mansell, a sad sack number-cruncher at his father-in-law’s factory and husband adrift from his distant wife (Connie Nielsen). Snappy editing gives a flick-book summary of the daily disappointments of Hutch’s life and Russian director Ilya Naishuller combines a showily kinetic verve with a crackle of wry humour.

Not only is this the biggest release since pandemic restrictions were relaxed, which allowed cinemas to resume business from May 17, but also marks Lionsgate’s fourth widest release to date – behind just Military Wives, The Personal History Of David Copperfield and Knives Out.

Stars: Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, Alexey Serebryakov, Christopher Lloyd, RZA, Michael Ironside, Colin Salmon, Billy MacLellan, Gage Munroe | Written by Derek Kolstad | Directed by Ilya Naishuller
Mild-mannered Bob Odenkirk goes all John Wick in this gleefully violent action thriller that has a few surprises up its sleeve. How violent is it? Well, director Ilya Naishuller’s previous feature was first person shoot-’em-up Hardcore Henry and it’s from both the writer (Derek Kolstad) and producer (David Leitch) of, yep, John Wick. In other words, it’s pretty goddamn violent.
Nobody opens with a teaser of what’s to come, as a blood-spattered Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) sits across a table being questioned. “Who are you?”, comes the question, and the title card provides the answer. The rest of the film unfolds in flashback, opening with a terrific loser’s montage, establishing exactly what the week-to-week life of suburban dad...

The Better Call Saul star doesn’t disgrace himself amid some entertainingly gonzo mayhem
Geriatric action stars, like geriatric millennials, might be having a bit of a moment. Bob Odenkirk, better known as slippery lawyer Saul Goodman in TV’s Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul, unexpectedly gets to bust out some serious fight moves at the age of 58. That’s two years older than Liam Neeson was when he made Taken, and eight years older than Keanu Reeves at the time of the first John Wick film, though Reeves admittedly already had the action chops.
Nobody, from screenwriter Derek Kolstad (creator of John Wick) and the Russian action director Ilya Naishuller, gives us Odenkirk as a nobody: a boring guy called Hutch with two kids, who works at some dull machine tools plant, while his more glamorous wife Becca (Connie Nielsen) brings home more bacon as an estate agent.

For years, the Russian film and television industry has been a sleeping giant.
A top 10 world box office territory, with a population of just under 150 million and a long, rich cinema cultural tradition of genius auteurs that stretches from Sergei Eisenstein through Andrei Tarkovsky to Andrei Zvyagintsev (Leviathan, Loveless), Alexander Sokurov (Faust, Russian Ark), and Kantemir Balagov (Beanpole) — alongside commercial talents from Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted), to Fyodor Bondarchuk (Invasion, Stalingrad) to Ilya Naishuller (Nobody) — Russia has always had enormous potential.
