The third weekend of February brings some fascinating exhibitions, some left-field film releases... and a cocaine-fuelled bear. Yep, you read that right.
But that’s not all that features in this week’s Arts Agenda, The Independent’s guide to the best cultural activities each and every weekend. Our team of critics and editors have selected a range of options from across the different spheres of culture: art, books, film, music, stage and TV.
Among the highlights are David Hockney’s new immersive experience at Lightroom (we’ve also got an exclusive interview with the man himself). TV editor Ellie Harrison talks about the return of ITV’s Unforgotten – sadly sans Nicola Walker – while film editor Adam White has found the perfect Netflix film to fill the Jennifer Coolidge-shaped hole in all our lives after The White Lotus. Arts editor Jessie Thompson, meanwhile, enthuses about Coco Mellors’ bingeable novel Cleopatra and Frankenstein,...

Who doesn’t like coffee and walnut?” asks Carole, a 59-year-old Dorset woman with waves of fuchsia hair and a hankering for “classic” bakes. It’s a perfectly sensible question. A rhetorical question really, yet the charismatic Carole also has an excellent answer. “Unless you don’t like coffee,” she says, “or are allergic to nuts.”
It was at this moment precisely – 30 minutes into the newest series of Channel 4’s The Great British Bake Off – that I decided to pledge loyalty to Team Carole. She can land a joke. She can make tidy little fondant bumble bees and lip-smacking lemon curd. So it is very sad to me that she’s bound to lose this competition, a competition that at first glance seems like it was designed to be won by a middle-aged woman who loves gardening so dearly that she’s called “Compost Carole”.

Out of the many in-depth stories covering Harvey Weinstein and his alleged sexual misconduct, New York Times and The New Yorker have proven to deliver excellence when it comes to reporting on the scandal. The two publications have won the Pulitzer Prize for public service for their Weinstein stories that served as a catalyst for the #MeToo movement.
The awards were announced today at Columbia University. Investigative reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor wrote the story on Weinstein for the New York Times which eventually led to Weinstein’s firing and his downfall. Ronan Farrow wrote his Weinstein story for The New Yorker, which exposed Weinstein and that he has faced allegations of sexual harassment and assault for decades. Their reporting opened the floodgates to even more women and men coming forward to speak about sexual assault and harassment, igniting a flame for the #MeToo movement which is leading a...

The New York Times and the New Yorker have jointly won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for public service for their influential exposes of disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.
The explosive investigations into Weinstein’s abuses in the Times (reported by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey) and the New Yorker (by Ronan Farrow) were clearly the headline news stories of the last year, rocking the entertainment industry and spurring a global reckoning about the harassment and abuse of women. The shared prize was at the top of a list of 2018 Putlizer winners that also included awards for political coverage of Trump’s presidency as well as arts awards for musician Kendrick Lamar for his album “Damn.” and playwright Martyna Majok for her play “Cost of Living.”
Among the political stories to score awards were the Times and the Washington Post’s coverage of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign; the Arizona Republic...
