On May 4th, as part of the 2024 Podathan charity streaming event benefiting the Make-a-Wish Foundation, members of Lucasfilm's "Star Wars" story team Pablo Hidalgo and Matt Martin spoke to the hosts of the Full of Sith podcast. The show has been producing almost weekly episodes since 2013 and has covered plenty of "Star Wars" news, and Hidalgo and Martin, among others, have been frequent guests on the podcast over the years.
Hidalgo spoke to my co-host Holly Frey ("Stuff You Missed in History Class") in a wide-ranging interview about his work with Lucasfilm and on "Star Wars". As someone who is intimately involved with the storytelling process at Lucasfilm, Hidalgo elaborated on how that works and what he really does. He's been working at Lucasfilm for over 20 years and was on set for most of the prequels and was even in charge of the revolutionary web-cam that was on set for "Attack of the Clones.

With the sudden passing of actor Paul Reubens after a private battle with cancer, the outpouring across the country and the world has been comforting, to say the least. Reubens will always be most associated with Pee-wee Herman, the character he created and developed when he was a part of the world-famous comedy troupe The Groundlings during the late '70s. As Pee-wee became more entrenched into our own cultural fabric and "Pee-wee's Playhouse" hit the airwaves every Saturday morning, a generation of '80s kids fell in love with him.
With Tim Burton's "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" and its sequel "Big Top Pee-wee," Reubens carved out a franchise of his very own during the same decade where the original "Star Wars" trilogy completely dominated the box office. For fans of George Lucas' space opera, Reubens wasn't just known as the lovable, eccentric children's host from television. He was also the voice of Rex,...

(Updated with more details) The planned full-day walkout at Disney today over the company’s fumbled response to Florida’s discriminatory “Don’t Say Gay” bill has seen an outpouring of support for the LGBTQ+ community from some leading divisions in the House of Mouse’s empire.
Hulu, ESPN, Walt Disney World, Disney+ and FX, among others, took to social media Tuesday morning to show that they “fearlessly” support our Lgbtqia+ colleagues, their families and communities,” as the John Landgraf-led cabler put it in a tweet.
Check out the seemingly coordinated posts from the Disney divisions here:

Long ago I sat in the audience at Disney's D23 Expo and watched live as the powers that be explained the first details about the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience. There was drool. Of course, most of us will never be able to afford such a thing. The two-day journey prices range from $4,809 to $5,999 on a weekday, but ooh, that includes going to Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park.
Today we have a new video with Lucasfilm Franchise Content & Strategy member Matt Martin and Walt Disney Imagineering member Travis Finstein who give us some fun details on what we're...

Canon is a tricky concept for fans of fictional universes. Whether it’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Star Trek,” “Fast & Furious,” or any number of franchises, devoted fans love to analyze every aspect of the films, TV shows, books, and whatever other mediums the universe has been explored in, desperately looking for deeper understanding. And perhaps no more diligent fanbase exists than those people who love “Star Wars.” But it’s the insistence (and frustration) by some fans on knowing which canon is currently being honored and which books, comics, and previous material no longer “matters” that drove a recent social media discussion led by Matt Martin, the Lucasfilm Story Group Creative Executive.

In 1986, Alan Moore prefaced his classic Superman story “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow” with the line: “This is an imaginary story. Aren’t they all?” This now-famous line always comes to mind whenever I see heated debates on the canonicity of a fictional event.
Splitting hairs over whether one made-up event happened more than another one has always seemed like a waste of oxygen to me, though I grant that it appears to be very important to some. But now this opinion has some backup from a very unexpected source: Star Wars Story Group member Matt Martin.
Over a series of tweets, he said:
“What is and isn’t canon informs how future stories may be told but it doesn’t need to dictate how individual fans enjoy their own personal Star Wars story. So in the example earlier the person was asking about “recanonizing” a past story...

Here’s a really good question about the Star Wars universe that you might not have considered before: why don’t the Jedi name their lightsabers? After all, Jedi Knights are essentially a space-age version of medieval knights, with mythology full of special swords and weapons that have suitably dramatic-sounding names. This question was posed to a pretty official source – Star Wars story editor Matt Martin – and he provided an answer to the mystery.
In a now deleted tweet, which was screen-grabbed and shared on r/starwarsspeculation, one fan questioned why the Darksaber is the only lightsaber in the Sw canon, to date, which has a specific name. It turns out Martin’s answer is to do with the famed rule about the Jedi being discouraged from forming emotional attachments.
“I would attribute it to the Jedi’s attempts to avoid attachment. The sabers are just tools. Not something to be revered and named.

Yolanda Ramke and Ben Howling.
Yolanda Ramke was browsing social media when she spotted a tweet from Mike Flanagan, creator/showrunner of Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, complimenting her and her co-director Ben Howling on Cargo.
Thrilled, Ramke sent off a grateful response to Flanagan. That prompted her Us agent, CAA’s Matt Martin, who knew a second series was in the works, to get in touch with the co-executive producer, Intrepid Pictures’ Trevor Macy.
In turn that led to a Skype interview for Ramke and Howling with Flanagan and Macy. After a brief wait, the offer came for the duo to co-direct episodes of The Haunting of Bly Manor, which is now shooting in Vancouver.
Flanagan announced the hiring of the Aussies on Twitter along with Ciarán Foy, Liam Gavin (A Dark Song) and Axelle Carolyn.

Have you ever wanted to learn the way of the force from Darth Vader? Well, now you can thanks to the Vader Immortal Vr experience. We’ve learned that the second installment of the game, Vader Immortal: Episode II, has been released on the Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift platforms. That announcement came with a trailer that you can watch below:
This looks like it could be fun! I don’t have any of the Occulus Vr tech so I personally won’t be playing it anytime soon. But, if I had one, I’d definitely want to try this out!
Here’s the official description:
Vader Immortal is a three-part canonical Star Wars adventure that allows audiences to step into the role of a Force-sensitive smuggler recruited by Darth Vader himself. In Episode I, they learned how to use a lightsaber and explored the depths of Lord Vader’s castle.
