Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’S Home For Peculiar Children is the director’s freshest and most original film in years, while still being entirely within the director’s wheelhouse of quirky, colorful, and mysterious movies. In this new creative direction, Burton offers a more mature, even serious tone, and less of his signature over-the-top silly quirk, in this tale of a teenage boy and his beloved grandfather, who raised him on tales of a mysterious, hidden home for “peculiar” children – that is, children with special powers such as levitation or invisibility, and run by kindly but strict Miss Peregrine.
The film is a departure for Burton, and fans expecting the usual mix of oddball darkness and humor may feel let down by this more mature film. In one way, it is a return to his early work, Edward Scissorhands, with...

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a stuffy, supernatural period piece that fluctuates between “dull” and “exciting,” the latter description being lost in the former’s grasp. Tim Burton takes a more restrained route when adapting Ransom Riggs’ novel (screenplay by Jane Goldman), which is a breath of fresh air compared to previous endeavors like Alice In Wonderland and Dark Shadows (even Big Eyes to a degree) – but it’s still a tepid affair. What’s essentially X-Men: First Class meets The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen (and women) takes entirely too long to uncover excitement, as the production opts for a dusty generational perspective instead of fantastical teen orphan adventure. Macabre fairy-tale-telling through strange character casting and minimal definition – certainly not the spectacle Burton hoped for.

"You were born to protect us." Fox has unveiled the first official trailer for Tim Burton's latest film, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, adapted from Ransom Riggs' best-selling novel of the same name. This film feels a bit like Tim Burton's X-Men, featuring numerous children with special powers living in a home for the gifted. Eva Green plays Miss Peregrine, who oversees the "home for peculiar children". Samuel L. Jackson plays the villain known as Barron. This first trailer introduces most of the ensemble cast, including Asa Butterfield, Lauren McCrostie, Pixie Davies, Cameron King, twins Thomas & Joseph Odwell, Allison Janney, Judi Dench and Ella Purnell. I'm certainly intrigued! This looks fun. Here's the first trailer for Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, from YouTube: When Jake discovers clues to a mystery that spans different worlds and times, he finds Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

which stars Asa Butterfield as Jacob Portman and Ella Purnell as Emma Bloom heading up the young cast, alongside Eva Green in the title role.
Here’s the full lineup of the peculiar children, each endowed with unusual skills or powers. “I was a little worried about working with so many kids again,” Burton told Empire Magazine, “but they were all such professionals on set. You would never believe that it was some of these kids’ first big film.”
Pixie Davies plays little Bronwyn Buntley. Georgia Pemberton from London (represented by Bwh) plays Fiona Frauenfeld. Finlay MacMillan (represented by Bwh) plays "Dead Raiser" Enoch O'Connor. Milo Parker (represented by Bwh) plays Hugh Apiston. Lauren McCrostie (represented by United Agents) plays Olive. Raffiella Chapman (represented by Curtis Brown) is Claire Densmore. "It' a weird family." Burton gets back to being weird with his next film, titled Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, adapted from a series of young adult books about "bizarre tales and photos of levitating girls and invisible boys." Now we get to see some of those bizarre photos about a peculiar family, with a few first look shots revealed for the film arriving in theaters this fall. Tim Burton may have had more misses than hits in the past decade, but there's no denying that he's a director that leaves his fingerprints on the his movies. Even if you hated Alice In Wonderland (which many did, with relish), there was no denying that it was a product of Tim Burton's direction. His creepy, gothic, and otherworldy imagery is something that's gone on to impact audiences worldwide and inspire countless other creatives. It's a style that's a great fit for certain projects, and when it comes to young adult novel adaptations, I can't think of a greater fit for him than Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar children.
"Weird kids: It’s something that I’ve dealt with and been interested in for a while,” director Tim Burton said when speaking about the film with Entertainment Weekly.
The book itself is something of a straightforward, fun story, accented with sort of a creepy,...

Back in November, Screenterrier reported on the casting of Asa Butterfield as lead role Jacob, and Ella Purnell as Peculiar Child Emma Bloom, joining Eva Green in Tim Burton's Peregrine's Home For Peculiars, based upon the best-selling novel 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children' by Ransom Riggs.
The unforgettable, thrilling and haunting tale centers on 16-year-old Jacob (played by Asa Butterfield), who follows clues that take him to a mysterious island, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores the abandoned bedrooms and hallways, he discovers that its former occupants were far more than peculiar; they possessed incredible powers. And they may still be alive.
Filming has now commenced and we can meet the young actors making up the rest of the cast of Peculiar Children, who all possess incredible powers.
