- A business and class action litigator in Los Angeles, David's volunteer work in family law led him to self-submit for a role in Spike Jonze's "Her" after learning that they were open to casting a practicing lawyer who could improvise about divorce law.
- Graduated from Duke Law School (magna cum laude), and clerked for Chief Justice Veasey of the Delaware Supreme Court.
- Brother of performers Michelle Azar and Debra Azar, and brother-in-law of writer Eric Goldberg and editor/writer Aaron Wolfe.
- Studied acting and/or voice at the Piven Theatre Workshop in Evanston, Illinois; Indiana University School of Music; Interlochen Summer Theatre Camp; and the Eileen Boevers Performing Arts Workshop, in Highland Park, Illinois, where he also performed as a member of its Traveling Troupe.
- Served as a volunteer prosecutor through the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Trial Advocacy Project (TAP).
- Served as a mediator in more than 160 cases, and has trained and reviewed other mediators.
