- Oyama is not an actor but owns a karate studio in Birmingham, Alabama, but he had a small speaking role in the blockbuster horror film Get Out (2017), which was filmed primarily in Fairhope, Alabama. As the casting call for secondary characters was local, writer/director Jordan Peele had trouble finding an older Japanese actor available. Fortunately for Peele, his friend Ken Marino is Oyama's son-in-law and suggested him for the part.
- Oyama is a well-known karate master and instructor. He was trained by Mas Oyama, who founded Kyokushin karate, the first full-contact karate. Yasuhiko and his brother were sent to the United States to teach Kyokushin to help the sport gain in popularity.
