Did your invite to Stevie and Dmitri’s wedding get lost in the mail? Have no fear: We’ve gathered all of the highlights of Madam Secretary‘s series finale — which included the nuptials of the First Daughter and her soulmate — in a final (sniff!) recap.
The episode, “Leaving the Station,” takes place nine months after the events of the previous installment, and we pick up two days before Stevie’s wedding. She and Dmitri are planning to hold it at a gorgeously bucolic venue. They’re particularly taken with the site’s hand-hewn wooden beams and such… which will...

Even though the Pierce deal fell apart and the company is still facing an ostensibly serious takeover bid, the Roys still like to throw a party. “Return,” this week’s episode of Succession, opens with Kendall FaceTiming his new fling and sometime rival Naomi Pierce from the bathroom, and she needs him to send her a dick pic “for her records.” This is, weirdly, the most functional sexual relationship on the show. He begrudgingly goes along with her request, and for the first time in the season seems happy. It won’t last.

Irish character actor Derrick O’Connor, who portrayed the villain in Lethal Weapon 2 and appeared in three of Terry Gilliam’s films among numerous other credits, has died. O’Connor died Friday of pneumonia in Santa Barbara, his publicist Jane Ayer announced. He was 77.
O’Connor’s decades-long career included memorable film performances in Lethal Weapon 2, roles in Gilliam’s films Time Bandits, Brazil and Jabberwocky, as Thomas Aquinas opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in End of Days, as an aspiring buccaneer in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and in John Boorman’s Hope and Glory.
Widely regarded as a superb actor, O’Connor was noted for often paring down – or fully eliminating – his lines in a scene in order to emphasize the physical aspects of his role – a skill that earned him the admiration of many who directed him, especially Terry Gilliam. In Gilliam’s Time Bandits,...

The nature of God has vexed theologians and philosophers for millennia. “Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him,” the Bible tells us. “Because we cannot know what God is, but only what He is not, we cannot consider how He is but only how He is not,” Saint Thomas Aquinas once wrote. And so it is that we can…

Gary Johnson really needs to start watching this show.
Okay, so Madam Secretary Season 3 Episode 2 didn't do a one-for-one exchange of Algeria for Syria. But it did manage to take an extremely complicated situation and present it in a way that would make sense to most people. Even if they did go for the typical Elizabeth-McCord-saves-the-day happy(ier) ending.
Being able to talk a seemingly noble general into ousting a narcissistic dictator isn't the only advantage that Elizabeth has in her version of this conflict. It's a three sided war, but so far the Us is the only major world power with skin in the game. Things are so much easier when you don't have to worry about pissing off Russia.
I'm personally hoping that this isn't the last we see of this conflict. While Season 2's Russia arc was a little nutty at times, I liked that things weren't...

Only one of three teenage girls emerged uninjured Friday night in El Paso, Texas, after the church carnival ride they were on ejected the other two, injuring one and killing the other, ABC News reports. The third girl only avoided injury, her father said, because she held tight to the metal bars of the spinning ride (called the "Sizzler"), according to ABC. One of her friends, 16, was slammed into a metal barricade at the ride and died, according to ABC, while the other friend, 15, was injured in the ejection but is expected to recover. In the wake of the terrible attacks in Paris, I found myself listening to a lot of French music and thinking about the Leonard Bernstein quote going around on Facebook: "This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before." This list came to seem like my natural response. A very small response, I know. This list is chronological and leaves off people I should probably include. The forty [note: now forty-one] composers listed below are merely a start.
Léonin Aka Leoninus (c.1135-c.1201)
The Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris in the 1100s was a major musical center, and Léonin (the first named composer from whom we have notated polyphonic music) was a crucial figure for defining the liturgical use of organum, the first polyphony. Earlier organum was fairly simple, involving parallel intervals and later contrary motion, but the mid-12th century brought...

We ended last week’s dissertation by asking if superhero stories are science fiction. You remember? Good. I cherish your acuity. And, acute citizen that you are, you have already broadened the question to include pulp stories and entertainments like the Star Wars franchise.
Let’s focus on that, for surely we are all familiar with it. The Star Wars saga has spaceships, ray guns, bizarre aliens and even a girl who is clad in a harem costume for no other reason, apparently, than that she’s awfully cute: all stuff that used to be staples of science fiction, especially the pulpy kind. But I don’t recall those words – science fiction – being used to describe anything Star Warsian. And the stories themselves contain no references to real world (universe) science or extrapolation from current reality. In fact, the storytellers go out of their way to deny any such connections:...

CBS’ new drama Madam Secretary can best be described as the D.C. follow-up to The Good Wife. They both feature spectacular-looking actresses in their late 40s playing women essaying roles often depicted on television by men, with a supportive husband (though in this case, for now anyway, hubby keeps it in his pants) and a winsome daughter and bright, could-be-trouble son. And both feature marvelous ensemble casts filled with TV veterans and newbies with their eyes on stardom.
After an opening that nearly tricks you into thinking you’re dipping into the new season of Homeland, Madam Secretary drops us in Syria,...

It's no surprise that Hollywood royalty Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie tied the knot in a setting that is truly fit for a king and queen. The couple wed at Château Miraval, a 1,200-acre estate in the village of Correns, France, that the Jolie-Pitts have called home since 2008. The property boasts pine forests, olive groves, terraced hillsides, working vineyards, a private lake - and even a moat! The château contains a number of structures that date back to the 17th century, including 35 rooms in the main house as well as several tenant residences. It also houses a legendary recording studio and a prize-winning vineyard.
