We're more used to seeing Benny Safdie working behind the camera with brother Josh, but for his first solo film, he's certainly striking out with a fascinating subject. He has Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt (sound the Jungle Cruise reunion klaxon!) starring in The Smashing Machine, about mixed martial arts scrapper Mark Kerr. Studio A24 has released a first look at The Rock in the lead role, which you can find in full below…
Kerr was a two time Ultimate Fighting Championship Heavyweight Tournament Champion and World Vale Tudo Championship tournament winner. Over the course of his career, he won over two dozen Mma titles, while also struggling with addiction and his marriage even as he became an icon of the sport.
Johnson and Safdie originally discussed the film back in 2019, but it was put on hold when the pandemic hit. The pair didn't really stay in touch, but the...

Do you smell what The Rock is cooking? For the last decade-plus (at least post-Pain & Gain), Dwayne Johnson has been serving up four-quadrant blockbuster slop. Thankfully, he seems to be turning a new direction for The Smashing Machine, which marks the solo directorial feature debut for Benny Safdie after parting ways with his brother Josh Safdie, who’ll be going on to make his forthcoming Adam Sandler-led movie about the baseball trading card industry.
As for The Smashing Machine, with A24 kicking off production recently the first image has now dropped. The film, which marks a Jungle Cruise reunion for Johnson and Emily Blunt, captures the story of legendary Mma fighter Mark Kerr, who was afflicted with addiction and a rocky marriage with Dawn Staples (Blunt).

After being labeled the “Biggest Losers” in a year they’d like to forget, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle began a fresh rebrand in 2024. It started with the Sussexes’ revamped website before a slew of appearances at the Invictus Games One Year To Go Event in Canada. The Duke of Sussex even did an interview with Good Morning America about the Games and his involvement, which has been included in a short documentary titled: Prince Harry’s Mission: Life, Family and Invictus Games.
Now, a psychic has predicted that there will be more success for Harry this year. But what about the duchess?
Here’s why the psychic says Meghan is going to “struggle” in 2024.

There’s no doubting that the budgets and ambitions of music videos have dwindled since the glory days of MTV. We live in the age of TikTok-targeted ephemera. Yet miraculously, 2023 gave a much-needed shot of cinematic life to the form.
The best videos of the year emphasized meticulous technique over virality, offering intimate, impressionistic portraits of their respective artists’ interior lives and thoughts. Lana Del Rey and Lucy Dacus subverted Old Hollywood tropes, with a meta riff on studio system-era glamor and a lesbian tweaking of Wizard of Oz, respectively.
Others went bigger. Troye Sivan brought back the sheen and unabashed sexuality of Y2K pop princesses with a drag transformation that represents the performance of his career to date. Doja Cat took a maximalist approach to portraying the simultaneous highs and horrors of stardom, while Olivia Rodrigo constructed an elaborate, blood-splattered supernatural story to rival The Lost Boys.

The Writers Guild of America went on strike on May 2, and work on all television and film projects was stopped immediately by guild members. Production was able to continue on some projects that already had completed scripts, but since the nature of late-night talk shows requires timely jokes, they have all been off the air for exactly five months.
But, thanks to last week’s deal between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), all of the late-night shows will return to the air on Monday, Oct. 2 with brand new episodes. As The Streamable noted last week, because these types of shows are generally day-to-day operations, they are able to get back to airing new episodes almost immediately.
That being said, the shows will still have to contend with the fact that they will not be able to have actors on as guests in order...

There's no denying that "Rabbit Hole," the upcoming Paramount+ series which stars Kiefer Sutherland, is a thriller with a lot of twists and turns. But what not might be as expected is that the show, created by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, has plenty of funny moments, too.
"I was expecting all of the tentpole ideas of a good thriller, but the humor was just such a bonus," Sutherland told me in a recent interview. "And it wasn't complicated gag humor where you have to figure out how to fall down three flights of stairs and then jump up with a clown nose. This is a really sophisticated, sarcastic, charming kind of humor."
That charming humor is paired with some mind-boggling twists, where almost every episode ends with reveals which completely flips the table on any assumptions you might have had about what is going on. I talked with Sutherland...

It’s great to see the Brenaissance happen. Oscar nominee Brendan Fraser has been a joy to watch in movies since 1992’s Encino Man. Although the Oscars tend to overlook comedy, Fraser has done strong dramatic work long before The Whale. However, it’s great to see his performance in The Whale recognized.

After more than a decade’s journey to the big screen, New Line and DC Films’ Black Adam opens today, and while he hasn’t been a part of it since the beginning, director Jaume Collet-Serra is happy to see this long journey come to its conclusion.
Handpicked three years ago by the film’s star and producer, Dwayne Johnson, to take over the directing reins, Collet-Serra has immersed himself in the world of the titular character in order to prepare for the biggest shoot of his career. Following the successful Jungle Cruise shoot, where he served as director and Johnson starred, the duo were right back to work on Black Adam, even through the pandemic as Collet-Serra began storyboarding and prepping the shoot during the quarantine.
Even with the pressure of delivering the goods on one of the most anticipated movies of 2022, Collet-Serra tells Deadline that his time on...

Plot: Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson), the mythical hero of the occupied city of Kahndaq, is released into modern times. While the woman (Sarah Shahi) who freed him and her family hoped he would liberate his people, Black Adam is not the hero they think he is. He hides a dark secret that puts him in conflict with the Justice Society of America, who want to stop his deadly rampage.
Review: DC’s Black Adam is undoubtedly a passion project for Dwayne Johnson. He’s been attached to it in some form or another for about fifteen years. As everyone knows by now, the initial plan was to use him as a villain in the Shazam movie. Believing in the promise of the character, Johnson held out until he could get a film of his own. Indeed, Black Adam is among the most ambitious movies the star has ever made, with...

Mila Kunis has made a surprise appearance on the first episode of Bling Empire’s third season.
Bling Empire is a reality show that follows “LA’s wildly wealthy Asian and Asian American fun seekers as they go all out with fabulous parties, glamour and drama”.
As the third season arrived on the streaming service, fans were shocked by an unannounced appearance from Kunis in the first episode.
In the scene, stars Gabriel and Christine Chiu are out at a restaurant discussing potential surrogate options when the 39-year-old actor appears.
Judging by the way she comes over to greet them, Kunis seems to be fairly well-acquainted with the Chius.
“I haven’t seen you in so long,” says Chiu before the Hollywood star replies: “The neighbourhood misses you.”
The group then discusses the possibility of Kunis having more children to which she quickly replies: “No we’re done! We had two,...
