Julie Plec has given Candice King another bloody good role.
King, who played vampire Caroline Forbes on Plec’s The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and Legacies, has been cast in the new Prime Video series We Were Liars, our sister site Deadline reports. Plec and Carina Adly Mackenzie (The Originals; Roswell, New Mexico) will write and executive-produce.

Exclusive: Mamie Gummer (True Detective), Caitlin FitzGerald (Succession) and Candice King (The Vampire Diaries) are set as leads in We Were Liars, Prime Video’s series adaptation of E. Lockhart’s YA novel We Were Liars, which hails from Julie Plec, Carina Adly MacKenzie, Universal Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
This marks a reunion for King and Plec. King was a series regular on Tvd, co-created and executive produced by Plec, and recurred/guest starred on two offshoots created/executive produced by Plec, The Originals and Legacies, reprising her role as Caroline Forbes. MacKenzie also was a writer-producer on The Originals.
We Were Liars is a tragic love story and an amnesia thriller set on a privately owned island off the coast of Massachusetts. It centers on the wealthy, seemingly perfect Sinclair family, who spend every summer on their private island. Gummer, FitzGerald and King play the three Sinclair sisters.

Fans thought the day would never come when they’d get to see Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and Caroline Forbes (Candice King) engage in a kiss on The Vampire Diaries. For a long while, there was anticipation that the two of them would get together, and when it finally happened after six seasons, many viewers couldn’t contain their excitement.

The couple provided an exciting new storyline, and, as with any two actors who play a couple on a television show, Wesley and King were expected to do intimate scenes from time to time. However, we have discovered that Wesley said make-out scenes with King could be “uncomfortable.”

Candice King’s most notable role is as Caroline Forbes on the CW’s hit series The Vampire Diaries. And to commemorate her time on the show, the actor kept one iconic piece of jewelry Caroline famously wore.

The Vampire Diaries premiered in 2009 and ran for eight seasons on The CW. The supernatural drama follows the life of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire named Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and his brother Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder).

One of the most beloved characters from The Vampire Diaries is Caroline’s mom, Liz Forbes. She was initially introduced as the Sheriff of the vampire-ridden town of Mystic Falls and stayed on the force until her death in season 6. But considering she failed to be a good cop, it’s safe to think that Liz Forbes should have lost her badge in season 1.
In ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Liz Forbes tried her best to keep Mystic Falls safe
Liz Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) is introduced in the first season of The Vampire Diaries. She’s the Sheriff of Mystic Falls and the mother of Elena Gilbert’s (Nina Dobrev) best friend, Caroline Forbes (Candace Accola). She grew up in Mystic Falls. And as a member of the Town Council, she’s aware of the growing vampire threat.

Stefan Salvatore’s romantic interests in The Vampire Diaries were the most interesting of any character. The moody Salvatore had tremendous chemistry with practically all the women who fell in love with him during the course of the series. And while there were a few potential partners for Stefan to end up with, many viewers couldn’t agree on the best choice.
Paul Wesley | Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images Who did Stefan Salvatore end up with in ‘Tvd’?
Various characters may have stolen Stefan Salvatore’s heart in The Vampire Diaries, but he finally found true love with Caroline Forbes in the later seasons of the show. While Tvd’s central focus was initially on Stefan’s connection with Elena Gilbert, the story shifted away from the love triangle premise after Elena fell in love with Damon. In the eighth-season episode “Today Will Be Different,” Stefan proposes to Caroline, and they eventually tie the knot.

Seeing the short-lived Mikaelson reunion on Legacies Season 4 felt like getting your first tattoo: once you get one, you immediately want more.
I don't just mean more of the Mikaelsons -- though that would be delightful -- I mean more of everyone else we've missed, going all the way back to The Vampire Diaries.
There aren't many options unless we're talking about raising the dead, which isn't a big ask considering the absurd number of resurrections the Tvd world has seen over the past decade or so, but here are a few living (or undead) characters I'd like to make a comeback.
Marcel (again)
I formally put in my request to bring back Marcel -- again. A handful of fleeting moments in a single episode are not enough to honor Marcel Gerard, my forever king of New Orleans.
Marcel has done his fair share of damage, but so has everyone in the Tvd world,...

Legacies is headed in an exciting direction, and I only hope the show continues with this level of storytelling.
Legacies Season 4 Episode 4 excelled because the plot moved ahead significantly, with Hope finally becoming the tribrid, meaning she has finally unlocked the full extent of her abilities.
The moral dilemma she had about whether to find peace or return to the world and defeat Malivore was the perfect way to highlight just how difficult Hope's life has been since the deaths of her loved ones.
Choosing peace would have been easy, and after the chat with Ted about whether Klaus would ever find happiness, it was apparent she would prefer to save her friends and the people of Mystic Falls.
From a technical standpoint, the scenes of Hope's transition into this being first teased on The Vampire Diaries, were handled very well. The immediate change in the sky makes me think that Hope has upset nature.

Fans of The Vampire Diaries certainly love a bad boy. Co-creators Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec first faced this problem when fans fell for season-one villain Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder. As a result, the writers sped up glib vampire Damon's redemption story to appease fans, but then they found themselves facing the same issue following the introduction of Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan). Once again, The Vampire Diaries, which aired between 2009 and 2017, had a thrilling, chaos-loving villain who fans wanted to see in a romantic storyline with one of the leads. We're, of course, talking about the birth of Klaroline, the fan name for Klaus and Caroline Forbes (Candice...

Ever since Legacies debuted in 2018, the Vampire Diaries fans have been clamoring for Candice King to return as Caroline Forbes.
The spinoff features Caroline's daughters in lead roles, and the series has explained the mother's absence is down to the looming merge between her daughters, who are Gemini Twins.
King played Caroline on all eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries and reprised the role during the final season of The Originals.
While Caroline's been mentioned on Legacies multiple times on Legacies, we have yet to see her in the flesh, but we did get closer to something happening when the actress lent her voice to read a note to one of the character's daughters.
With fans pondering what could happen, King revealed in a recent Instagram Live interview with Tommy Didarrio.

From Nimue’s arrival to Rafael’s departure, the third season of Legacies has been full of surprises, though none have been quite as lyrical as the jaw-droppers thrown at us in Thursday’s episode, which featured the long-awaited debut performance of Salvatore: The Musical.

"Meanwhile, as Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) throws himself into writing the musical and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd), Josie (Kaylee Bryant), Kaleb (Chris Lee) and Jed (Ben Levin) dive into their roles, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) distances herself from the musical."

Ever since Legacies debuted in 2018, an important part of the mythology was missing.
Caroline Forbes, the mother of twins Lizzie and Josie Saltzman, has been mentioned several times, but viewers have not seen her in the flesh.
It's been frustrating for fans because it has essentially made Caroline look like a bad mother.
If you watch Legacies online, monsters have invaded the Salvatore School, including Lizzie and Josie's crazy uncle Kai.
The series has explained Caroline's absence as her being off trying to find a way to stop the imminent merge between her daughters.
In a new interview, TV Line asked Legacies showrunner Brett Matthews about a return for Caroline, played by Candice King, but it seems it will all come down to whether the actress wants to do it.

It's been almost ten months since Legacies Season 2 concluded, and it's time to take a look towards Legacies Season 3, debuting January 21 on The CW.
For the most part, the series is fun, but there are many flaws that can make or break the enjoyment of most of the episodes.
Below, we've rounded up a bunch of quick fixes to bring the magic back to the show.
Move on From Malivore
When Legacies Season 1 launched in 2018, it quickly became clear the villain would be the strongest in sheer power vs. any creature that appeared on predecessors The Vampire Diaries or The Originals.
In theory, Malivore is strong, but the execution of the plot has left us questioning whether the series has the legs to stand on.
The monster of the week format mostly worked on the opening season, but the flaws started to appear quickly on Legacies Season 2.

This is a story about a girl named Caroline Forbes.
Caroline is not the same woman she was when The Vampire Diaries first premiered in 2009.
In terms of character growth, the vapid perfectionist -- brought to life by the impeccable Candice King -- underwent the biggest evolution in the show’s eight-season run.
Though she was introduced as a shallow, oftentimes insufferable teen, with time, she blossomed into a strong-willed and impressive young woman who knew what she stood for and always stuck up for her friends.
Most of all, she grew into a fiercely independent.
She was no longer the girl that needed a man to feel a sense of worth -- a stark contrast from the Caroline we met on The Vampire Diaries Season 1, who looked for love in all the wrong places.
In those early episodes, Caroline was a control freak who took on as many extracurriculars...

The Vampire Diaries Universe continues to be alive thanks to The CW keeping its second spinoff, Legacies, around.
And while it was nice to check back into Mystic Falls several years after Elena, Stefan, Bonnie, Damon, and Caroline's neverending battles with the forces of evil ended, it's starting to get a bit long in the tooth.
Legacies Season 1 offered up a new and exciting direction for the franchise.
A monster of the week format and a magic school setting offered something new for fans who had followed characters for eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries and five seasons of The Originals.
Coupled with a new generation of characters, it initially proved to be a worthy successor to the previous two shows in the franchise.
Both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals had stellar second seasons, filled with excellent storytelling, acting, and game-changing twists that sent both series in directions we didn't think possible.

The Vampire Diaries was originally advertised as a love triangle between Elena Gilbert and the Salvatore brothers, but as soon as the Mikaelsons entered the picture, it became much more than that.
Damon and Elena were faced with competition as the most popular 'ship when Klaus and Caroline stole the hearts of viewers on The Vampire Diaries Season 3.
The originals were too enticing not to have a show of their own, and because of the spinoff, Klaus and Caroline never got the screentime they deserved.
However, once Caroline Forbes popped up in the final season of The Originals, Klaroline fans all over the world had hope again.
The only thing that prevented them from ending up together, was Stefan Salvatore.
You might be wondering how Stefan was a problem if he was dead, and I've spent years wondering the same thing.

It is safe to say that we have seen our fair share of romance tropes on television.
We have seen it all -- friends with benefits, love triangles -- you name it, it is out there.
Some of television's most popular relationships, whether they were endgame or not, are often forbidden love or enemies to lovers dynamics. People seem to find these tropes the most intriguing.
But they are not. Sure, on the surface, these types of relationships may seem more exciting. Still, the best trope for romance on television is friends to lovers.
Various subcategories define this trope -- childhood friend romance, just friends, I don't wanna ruin our friendship, and more. However, they all fall into the same category.
Friends to lovers is not dull or vanilla; they do not put people to sleep. The best and most iconic relationships on television belong to this trope. They have...

Ever since Legacies debuted in 2018, the series has struggled to explain the lack of Caroline Forbes, also known as mother to Lizzie and Josie Saltzman.
The common excuse has been that Caroline is in Europe to find a way to prevent the merge between her daughters.
While that's a decent justification, recent events in Mystic Falls make it seem like her daughters have been abandoned entirely.
If you watch Legacies online, you know the twins finally merged on Legacies Season 2 Episode 15 -- effectively vanquishing the justification for not having Candice King as part of the cast.
But even before that, when Kai escaped from the prison world, her daughters and even her ex-lover were stuck there for a small period of time.
Yet, Caroline still remained out of the picture.

Never rule out a last minute win for the good guys.
Legacies Season 2 Episode 15 brought Dark Josie back to the school for her 17th birthday, but instead of playing nice, she accelerated the Merge.
The Merge is something I never expected to happen so soon, but I can't shake the feeling that it's not as over as the episode implied.
If Lizzie genuinely won, she wouldn't have died in the process. Tying her life to Landon's was very reminiscent of The Vampire Diaries Season 2 Episode 7 when Katherine's life was linked to Elena's to prevent the doppelganger from being killed.
Those were the days.
There was a part of Lizzie that felt weak because of the dark power quite literally seeping from Josie, but it's difficult to tell where we stand with the Merge.
