With another riveting episode of Gotham set to air tonight, Fox has released a new promo video highlighting a good man’s descent into madness to whet our appetites.
Aside from the much anticipated return of Poison Ivy, a major reason to tune in tonight will be to see what lies ahead for Nathaniel Barnes. Since being infected by the blood of Alice, he’s slowly been driven mad, thinking himself to be judge, jury, and executioner. Knowing that “Mad City: The Executioner” might feature the final showdown between Barnes and Jim Gordon definitely qualifies as must see TV, or at least we’d like to think so.

With just weeks remaining until the fall finale, Gotham looks to heat things up next week with what may be its most intense episode to air thus far this season. If the above trailer for “Mad City: The Executioner” tells us anything, it’s that we’re in for one hell of a nail biter.
From the looks of it, most of the white knuckle moments in this particular episode will come courtesy of the developing situation with Nathaniel Barnes. Seeing such a hard-nosed, by the book cop descend into madness provided an unexpected twist that has since yielded some compelling television. I and many others have theorized that he’s transitioning to becoming the Batman villain known as Solomon Grundy, but what’s been teased for this episode is starting to make me believe the producers may have something else in mind. My instincts tell me that we’ll...

It’s certainly no secret that Gotham juggles many characters from the Batman mythos and next Monday’s episode, “Mad City: Red Queen,” is set to further many plot threads, not just the Mad Hatter/Jim Gordon one that was the primary focus of the trailer.
While Mad Hatter is featured among one of the most generous helpings of promotional still galleries I’ve seen to date, the ongoing Penguin/Edward Nygma situation gets ample attention. Aside from that gem of a photo that sees Penguin talking on the phone, we get some glimpses at what may be several more awkward moments for him as he just can’t find the right words to say to his Chief of Staff.

Not only does the title of next week’s episode of Gotham, “Mad City: Follow The White Rabbit,” cause one to recall either Alice in Wonderland or The Matrix, but it also starts to provide clues as to where the whole “Mad City” story arc is going. Given that the following episode happens to be titled “Red Queen,” it looks as though the Mad Hatter has everything to do with it, which is actually quite obvious in hindsight.
As we saw in last night’s instalment, Jervis Tetch has lost even more of his marbles (as if that were thought possible) and has now begun his pattern of killing women that he dubs “Alice,” paying some kind of bizarre tribute to his now deceased sister who shared that name. With more twists and turns than the average midseason finale, this week’s Gotham was one of the best yet…
This review contains spoilers.
2.6 By Fire
Holy cliff-hanger, Batman! Despite being placed as the sixth episode of the season, By Fire felt like a midseason finale. That’s mainly because of the whopping revelation at the end; that Wayne Enterprises are in the business of experimenting on ‘monsters.’ Crikey. How’s that for a shock?
We’ve always known that Wayne Enterprises were up to something dodgy, but a bit of insider dealing or black market arms trading or funding a few gangsters is all many might have expected. Deciding to bring them into the ‘testing’ of enhanced people sets them up as a potential equivalent to other evil comic book companies and a genuine overarching adversary for the show going forward.

Gotham, Season 2, Episode 5, “By Fire”
Written by Rebecca Perry Cutter
Directed by Tj Scott
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on Fox
The Firefly story comes to a close this week in spectacular fashion as Gotham balances some very campy elements with emotional truths that skirt the line enough to work as an overall episode. There are many great, genuinely touching moments, others that are pitch-perfect black comedy, and a few instances of weird kitsch ideas that for the most part work, as they are executed with full-on commitment.
Gotham throughout its run has mixed many genres into its mold and some are more successful than others. This season has been more of a city-set western, with how brutal the villains have been and how Gotham feels almost lawless, even among those wearing the badge. Captain Barnes brings in the ideals of civilization, which is what Gordon began with in season one,...

Gotham was the first of the current wave of superhero TV shows to return last night with its season two premiere, and Fox has now released a promo for next week’s instalment. Titled “Knock, Knock”, it doesn’t share much in common with the upcoming Eli Roth movie starring Keanu Reeves, but does look set to be just as tense as Jerome sets out on his path to one day becoming The Joker.
The decision to explore the villain’s origin story has been a controversial one, but the premiere certainly did a pretty good job of establishing him as a dangerous new threat.

A batch of new images from Gotham‘s strangely-titled upcoming episode, “Everyone Has A Cobblepot,” have appeared online, showing the return of young Assistant District Attorney Harvey Dent – played by Masters of Sex alum Nicholas D’Agosto – and the debut of the creepy serial killer known as the Dollmaker.
The Borgias and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Colm Feore was cast as the Dollmaker (or in this case, Dr. Dulmacher) late last month, and based on the episode’s synopsis, he’s the one behind the creepy organ donation ring that Fish Mooney was recently caught up in, which makes sense considering he was attached to child smuggling earlier in the season as well.

I don’t know about you, but one of the characters that I’m most excited about seeing introduced on Gotham is the Joker. The show has done an amazing job introducing and developing up some of the classic Batman villains, such as Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and the Riddler. It has also laid the groundwork for several other characters.
During an interview with TV Guide, showrunner Bruno Heller revealed that there will finally be a real hint of a storyline for the Joker by the end of the first season, then the real development of the character will continue in Season 2, which is freakin’ exciting! According to Heller, no one wanted to wait any longer to make bring Joker into the series.

Written by Ben Edlund
Directed by Eagle Egilsson
Airs Mondays at 8pm Et on Fox
