I hope you’re feeling super green today, my fellow meat popsicles, because we’re looking back on Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element! Besson’s comedic and action-packed sci-fi gem is endlessly quotable, uproariously funny, and chock full of outstanding performances from actors like Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, Chris Tucker, and the late Ian Holm. Truly bizarre and imaginative, The Fifth Element revolves around a cab driver (Willis) who becomes an integral part of a prophesized event and activation of a cosmic weapon. As the sands of time trickle down, the cab driver leads a band of misfits in their search for salvation as evil encroaches from all sides.
Besson began the construction of The Fifth Element when he was 16 years old. The original concept resembles the film we know and love, though early drafts include name changes, alternate factions, and a world yet to be inspired...

1999, Y2K was pending, some folks were freaking out about it while most teens couldn’t be bothered. Things that stressed our parents didn’t worry us one bit and things we stressed about they found silly. Escape was found, as before and as still is, in horror movies. That year saw a few big releases, some great fun ones like eXistenZ, Deep Blue Sea, and Lake Placid, some that were meant to be great like Virus, The Haunting and The Astronaut’s Wife, and a whole lot of middle of the road titles like The Bone Collector, Resurrection, and From Dusk Till Dawn 2. The world was covered in the ooey, gooey goodness of horror and its special effects.

The Virus episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written and Edited by Ric Solomon, Narrated by Adam Walton, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The ’90s are chock full of some great sci-fi horror films. Who can forget Event Horizon, The Lawnmower Man, Mimic or Deep Blue Sea…. ya know, the one where Samuel L. Jackson gets eaten by a shark? Anyways, let’s fast forward to the end of the decade, 1999 in particular. It was, and still is, considered to be the best year movies were released. In January, director John Bruno would bring us the film, Virus (watch it Here). A movie that makes us ask the question “Wtf Happened To This Horror Movie?”
Back in 1992, writer Chuck Pfarrer and Canadian artist Howard Cobb brought to life the comic series Virus. The story revolves around a group of...

The episode of Revisited covering Species was Written by Ric Solomon, Narrated by Kier Gomes, Edited by Joseph Wilson, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The 1990s were famous for Alien Invasion films. Independence Day, The X-Files Movie, Alien 3 and Mars Attacks all come to mind. Yes, those are all great but what about Roger Donaldson’s classic 1995 creature feature Species (watch it Here)? Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the beautiful Natasha Henstridge and this being her first acting role. She’s an absolute terror and force to be reckoned with here. Species is something of a cult classic and one we need to talk about. So, on this episode of Horror Revisited, let’s dive back into one of the better Sci-fi 90s films.

The Vampire’s Kiss episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Ric Solomon, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Nicolas Cage has brought us some truly unhinged performances. From Castor Troy in Face/Off, to his supporting role as Eddie in Deadfall, and even Edward Malus, a woman-punching policeman in the 2006 remake of The Wicker Man. There is no stopping his extreme method acting. But where did it all come from? In 1989, Nicolas’ seedling was born in the horror comedy Vampire’s Kiss (get it Here). Back in the 80’s, some would say that his performance was too chaotic and horrendous. If you were to ask a millennial’s opinion today, they would tell you it’s one of the greatest films ever made. This film might have begun Cage’s method acting, but...

The episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw covering The Nest was Written and Edited by Ric Solomon, Narrated by Kier Gomes, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
While the early to mid-part of the ’80s was the time of the slasher, the later part of the decade decided to try a lot of new things. You had non-slasher sequels like Phantasm 2, Ghoulies 2, Critters 2, and Poltergeist III. You also had cool one-off properties like Bad Dreams, Dead Heat, and Killer Klowns From Outer Space. 1988 alone brought back the killer bug trope and while Juan Piquer Simon has the more famous gross out insect fest with Slugs, the other one is most certainly in the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw camp. Like Hudson from Aliens feared, let’s go on a bug hunt with 1988’s The Nest (watch it...

We’re getting this week started with a new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, and with this one we’re digging into the story behind Tremors II: Aftershocks (watch it Here) – the first direct-to-video sequel to the 1990 creature feature classic Tremors. Kevin Bacon didn’t return for this one, but Fred Ward and Michael Gross did… and Graboids weren’t the only things they had to worry about. Find out all about it by checking out the video embedded above!
Directed by S.S. Wilson, who also wrote the screenplay with Brent Maddock, Tremors II: Aftershocks has the following synopsis: After spending all the reward money from his first encounter with the giant, man-eating worms, the Graboids, Earl Bassett agrees to hunt more deadly creatures at a Mexican oil refinery for $50,000 each. Knowing he can’t take on the monsters alone, Earl recruits Burt Gummer,...

Roman Polanski’s Chinatown is considered by many to be one of the greatest detective stories of all time. It’s widely viewed as one of the greatest films of the seventies, with it sporting one of star Jack Nicholson’s most iconic performances, with him playing hard-boiled private eye Jake Gittes. The film was nominated for eleven Oscars, and while it only won one for Robert Towne’s screenplay, its legend looms large. In fact, just recently, a book called The Big Goodbye by Sam Wasson was written about it and is considered a modern classic as far as books about Hollywood go. While director Roman Polanski is a controversial figure – to put it mildly – no one can deny the film’s power.

When Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown hit theaters in the 1997 holiday season, the film didn’t explode into the cultural zeitgeist like his previous film, Pulp Fiction, had. Unlike that film, this was more of a straight adaptation of the novel Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard and told a more linear story. To some, it was a disappointment, but in the years that followed, Tarantino’s third film came to be viewed as an underrated gem and one of the best entries in his filmography.
In this episode of Wtf Happened to this Movie, we dig Ito why Tarantino opted to adapt Leonard for his Pulp Fiction follow-up. We look at how 70s blaxploitation icon Pam Grier ended up in the lead and how character actor Robert Forster managed to beat on Robert De Niro for the second lead, with the iconic actor finally taking on a smaller part. We...

In the pantheon of movie assassins with hearts of gold, Chow Yun-Fat, as the title character in John Woo’s The Killer, is at the top of the list. It’s no stretch to say that without Chow Yun-Fat and John Woo’s run of heroic bloodshed action ballets in the late eighties/ early nineties, movies like John Wick wouldn’t exist. In fact, Keanu Reeves’ sharply dressed killer was directly inspired by Chow Yun-Fat in this film. In it, he plays a smooth assassin whose conscience gets the better of him when he accidentally blinds a young nightclub singer (Sally Yeh) in a shootout. Determined to pay for a pricey operation to restore her sight and leave his violent life behind, he finds extricating himself from the underworld isn’t easy. Along the way, he finds an unlikely ally in a hard-bitten cop (Danny Lee) who, at first, is...

Before we even knew there was such a thing as the ‘Cornetto Trilogy’, there was just…Shaun of the Dead, a remarkably fresh, funny and surprisingly sweet take on the zombie genre unlike any we had seen before. Along with Zack Snyder’s remake of Dawn of the Dead and Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later – yeah, we know, not a real zombie movie – it helped reignite interest in the brainless ghouls known as zombies, and the undead are still rockin’ and rollin’ to this day.
Coming from the British trio of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Shaun was a continuation of sorts of the splendid U.K. comedy series Spaced, which was pretty much an unknown commodity at that point for most of us. Shaun was a genre fan’s dream, and it seemed like a very tough movie to top, so the pressure was on Edgar...

Sometimes when a horror franchise is really on a roll, we’ll get sequels that are just one year apart from each other. But the waiting period between Child’s Play 2 and the movie we’re looking at in the new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, Child’s Play 3 (watch it Here) was even shorter than a year. The third Child’s Play movie reached theatres just nine months after the second one! With such a quick development and production, is it any surprise that Child’s Play 3 turned out to be one of the least popular entries in the Chucky franchise? To find out all about the making of Child’s Play 3, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Jack Bender from a screenplay by Don Mancini, Child’s Play 3 has the following synopsis: It’s been years since Chucky, the doll with...

One word that comes to mind when you hear the title Die Hard is “definitive.” After all, it’s widely considered star Bruce Willis’ definitive role. Still, it’s also, arguably, the definitive action movie and even the definitive Christmas movie by some (in a debate that’s grown a bit tiresome). Indeed, Bruce Willis as John McClane, fighting terrorists in the Nakatomi skyscraper in Los Angeles, is a defining image of the eighties. Director John McTiernan, writers Steven E. De Souza and Jeb Stuart, and star Bruce Willis crafted a carnage-filled epic grounded by a very human hero – John McClane, who was a notable departure from the icons of the genre at the time, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. McClane was no superman. Instead, he was human, flawed and broken-hearted over his failed marriage. His only goal was to rescue his estranged wife, Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) and get home for Christmas with his kids.

We’re gathered here for another Face Off… and we have to ask, why do we do this to ourselves? Because it’s fun, that’s why! Yes, we’re here to tackle the impossible questions, such as the one we’re posing today: which of Sam Raimi’s horror films starring the one and only Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams and legions of Deadites, do you prefer — The Evil Dead or Evil Dead 2? Most of us would probably respond by saying, “I love them both; why should I choose” — which is a very reasonable way to confront the question. But then again, most of us probably Do have a preference when it comes down to it. Gun to head, final seconds on the clock ticking, what’s your choice?
We will weigh some of the most memorable attributes and attempt to find an answer. It might not be the answer you agree with — hell,...

If there is one thing that the ‘80s taught us, it was to keep an eye out for small carnivorous creatures. Whether it was the Ghoulies, the Munchies (bonus points to those that remember them), or even Hobgoblins which you might have caught on Mystery Science Theater 3000. These little buggers had no problem taking a bite out of anyone that was unlucky enough to cross paths with them. However, the two biggest monsters of the bunch that ruled the decade with their unending appetite had to be Gremlins and Critters.
The Gremlins start off as cute little Mogwais. But as soon as you get them wet, they multiply. Then if they eat after midnight, they mutate into horrible green Gremlins. Before you know it, they will take over your town while wreaking as much havoc as possible. If you’re more worried about vicious fuzzballs from outer space, then Critters has you covered.

Over the years, cinema has featured multiple actors who share so much chemistry that they wind up appearing in several movies together. The late 60s and early 70s saw Paul Newman and Robert Redford team up for timeless roles in The Sting and Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid. While the not-too-distant past has seen the likes of Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson collaborate across several successful genre films and more recently Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone have lit up the screen as a couple in love throughout several films, most notably 2016’s LA LA Land.

Welcome to our inaugural episode of Kill Counter: Face-Off Edition! In this series, we’ll be pitting films against each other to see which one had most the bone-breaking carnage between the two contestants. Today, we have a couple of Rob Zombie classics for your viewing pleasure.
First up, House of 1000 Corpses starring Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon Zombie, Karen Black, Walton Goggins, Rainn Wilson, and Chris Hardwick. Released in 2003, the black comedy horror film centers on a group of teens who are kidnapped and tortured by a psychotic family, during Halloween, after traveling across the country to write a book. While initially receiving unfavorable reviews from critics, the film was a box-office success and has since achieved a cult following.
