Before Luke Mitchell made a home on Chicago Med this season, the ubiquitous Australian actor appeared on many, many TV shows, including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Blindspot, The Code, Legacies and Big Sky.
But it’s Mitchell’s breakout Stateside role on The CW’s The Tomorrow People, where he played the superpowered group’s leader John Young, that stands out for the actor. When asked which of his past characters he would like to revisit, Mitchell is quick to single out the short-lived series, which aired during the 2013-14 TV season.

“The Republic of Sarah” starts straightforwardly enough. Opening in the idyllic New Hampshire town of Greylock, the show introduces us to history teacher Sarah Cooper (Stella Baker), her friends, and to her own surprise, her estranged brother Danny (Luke Mitchell). Though he abruptly left Greylock, their abusive alcoholic mother (Megan Follows) and his fiancé Corinne (Hope Lauren) years ago, he’s now back as a representative of an overbearing oil company that’s ready to use every legal loophole available in order to bulldoze the entire town and dredge up the riches lurking right underneath. Almost despite herself, Sarah finds herself stepping in front of the first bulldozer, readying for an all-out fight to save the town she loves.
So far, so classic. But what “The Republic of Sarah” does next is what sets it apart, for better and for worse.

The CW is adding two more new series to its 2020-21 primetime slate.
The network has handed series orders to Kung Fu and The Republic of Sarah.
Both shows scored pilot orders back in January.
They join Arrowverse spinoff Superman & Lois and the Jared Padalecki-led Walker, Texas Ranger reboot as the freshman class of The CW’s 2020-21 schedule.
The latter two shows both nabbed straight-to-series orders in January.
"A quarter-life crisis causes a young Chinese-American woman to drop out of college and go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China," on the untitled Kung Fu reboot.
"But when she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice -- all while searching for the assassin who killed her Shaolin mentor and is now targeting her," reads the logline.

The CW has given straight-to-series orders to dramas Kung Fu, starring Olivia Liang, and The Republic Of Sarah, headlined by Stella Baker. The reboot of the 1970s David Carradine-starring TV series and the small town drama join Superman & Lois and Walker, which already received series orders in January. Emerging from a pilot season decimated by the coronavirus pandemic, the CW is heading into the 2020-21 broadcast season with the most straight-to-series orders of any network so far, four. The CW is adding two more newcomers to next season’s primetime slate.
The network has handed series orders to Kung Fu and The Republic of Sarah, TVLine has learned. Both series earned pilot orders back in January. They join Arrowverse spinoff Superman & Lois and the Jared Padalecki-led Walker, Texas Ranger reboot as the freshman series on The CW’s 2020-21 schedule; those both earned straight-to-series orders in January. (No word yet on the fate of Green Arrow and the Canaries, another Arrowverse spinoff in contention for next season.)
