Laura Linney, Ben Semanoff and Justin Kurzel have all signed on to direct multiple episodes of the upcoming Netflix limited series “Black Rabbit.”
The trio will each direct two episodes of the series, which was picked up at Netflix in March. It will mark a reunion for Linney and “Black Rabbit” co-lead Jason Bateman, who previously starred as Wendy and Marty Byrde in the Netflix crime drama “Ozark” for four seasons. The official logline for the series states that it follows “the owner of a New York City hotspot (Law) who allows his turbulent brother (Bateman) back in his life, only to realize he’s opened the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he’s built.

Ahead of the Showtime and Paramount+ merger, Paramount Global is cleaning house. “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In,” two drama series that premiered last year, have been canceled at the channel, IndieWire has confirmed.
In addition, Showtime will no longer be proceeding with the series “Three Women,” starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise, and Gabrielle Creevy. The series, which finished principal production, will be shopped to other outlets, and “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In” are also reportedly being shopped.
Paramount Global announced the integration of Showtime into Paramount+ across both streaming and linear television on January 30, revealing it will occur “later this year.” Rather than just offering Showtime on the Paramount+ app, Showtime Ott and Showtime linear will be rebranded to “Paramount+ with Showtime,” and the Showtime Ott and Anytime apps will be shut down, IndieWire is told. Showtime is joining forces with Paramount+.
Paramount Global announced Monday that Showtime is being integrated into Paramount+ across both linear and streaming platforms.
What is the name of the rebranded service?

The change will only affect the premium tier for Paramount+ and the Showtime linear network.
The change is to integrate streaming and linear content and use franchises to their full extent.
"This new combined offering demonstrates how we can leverage our entire collection of content to drive deeper connections with consumers and greater value for our distribution partners," Paramount CEO Bob Bakish said in a memo to staff Monday.
"This change will also drive stronger alignment across our domestic and international Paramount+ offerings, as international Paramount+ already includes Showtime content."
"And, very importantly, this integration will unlock operational efficiencies and financial benefits across our broader portfolio."

Though production on the Shailene Woodley-led drama “Three Women” has already been completed, the series will no longer premiere on Showtime, which has also decided not to renew “Let the Right One In” and “American Gigolo.” The three series are the first known casualties as Paramount moves the Showtime brand moves under the purview of Paramount+ and reprioritizes its content.
Paramount CEO Bob Bakish announced on Monday that Showtime’s cable network would be renamed to “Paramount+ With Showtime” while its streaming service would collapse into Paramount+, noting that the company “will divert investment away from areas that are underperforming and that account for less than 10 of our views. We have already begun conversations with our production partners about what content makes sense moving forward and which shows have franchise potential.”

“This is not your everyday fantasy or vampire story,” declares past Oscar nominee Demian Bichir (“A Better Life”) about Showtime’s horror drama “Let the Right One In,” which concludes its ambitious limited run on December 11. For our recent webchat he adds, “we’re always hoping to find something that is three-dimensional and something that can help us expand our own limits and our own range and hopefully something that represents a risk or something that goes beyond the genre. Foreman is currently starring in the Showtime vampire series Let The Right One In, inspired by the bestselling 2004 novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist and its 2008 Swedish film adaptation.

It centers on Mark (Demián Bichir) and his daughter Eleanor (Taylor Baez), whose lives were changed forever 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. ‘Let the Right One In’: Demián Bichir & Andrew Hinderaker Break Down Heartbreaking Flashback Episode

The flashback episode explains how Eleanor (Madison Taylor Baez) became a vampire and how her mother, Elizabeth, died. Brazilian actor Fernanda Andrade plays Elizabeth opposite Demián Bichir‘s Mark, and the story (told in flashback as Mark gives confession for the first time in 10 years) gives heartbreaking explanations for the season’s biggest mysteries. Bichir and creator Andrew Hinderaker spoke with TV Insider about the powerful episode and what it means for the rest of Let the Right One In Season 1. In “More Than You’ll Ever Know,” viewers learn Ellie was attacked by a vampire when she was stargazing alone in her backyard. Tomas Alfredson's "Let the Right One In" is a classic vampire tale. Two young kids who are worlds apart bond over their sense of otherness and commit dark deeds together. It is a story both devoid of emotion and drenched in warm companionship that evolves into love. Given the timeless nature of the story, "Let the Right One In" has inspired an American remake and a comic book series, along with the recently released Showtime series of the same name by Andrew Hinderaker. Demián Bichir, who plays Mark Kane, recently spoke to Awards Radar about the complexity of the show's narrative and explained why he compares it to Shakespeare.
Although Bichir's Shakespeare comparison might seem out of place at first glance, the actor explained that the character-centric approach of the show allowed the story to evolve dynamically. As every character is rife with contrarian impulses and human depth, Bichir...

When you think of the acclaimed vampire story "Let the Right One In," what do you remember? Body parts strewn across a swimming pool? A kid vampire's tummy growling with thirst — not for juice boxes, but for blood? Tomas Alfredson's 2008 coming-of-age horror film calls to mind a lot of evocative images and feelings, but the most indelible one might be snow. The movie, and the book by John Ajvide Lindqvist on which it's based, are both set in the icy winter landscape of Sweden, where blood stands out against the bright white snow.
The new Showtime version of the saga, though, transports the story of a vampire child, her human-harvesting father, and the neighbor boy who catches her attention. Instead of taking place among the snowbanks of Sweden, the series is set in New York City and the surrounding area, where dutiful, murdering father Mark (Demián Bichir) can stalk...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the series premiere of Let the Right One In.] The novel Let the Right One In has gotten two adaptations, the 2008 Swedish film being the most popular. At the core of each story is a vampire, turned around 10-12 years old, who befriends a bullied, lonely boy. The story’s other key relationship is between the vampire and her caretaker, an adult man posing as her father who helps keep her fed (to tell you how would spoil the narrative for new viewers). Showrunner Andrew Hinderaker makes some key changes to his adaptation, which premiered Sunday, October 9 on Showtime, the biggest being that Eleanor’s caretaker is actually her biological father, and she’s not decades old. Rather, Eleanor has been a vampire for about 10 years when the show begins, and she has spent most of that time on the run with her dad, Mark (Demián Bichir), looking ...

Like a vampire impervious to exposure, “Let the Right One In” is one of very few stories to not just survive multiple adaptations, but thrive with each new iteration. The book that started it all, John Ajvide Lindqvist’s 2004 novel, became a bestseller before the author worked with Tomas Alfredson to create what Roger Ebert later called “the best modern vampire movie.” Then Matt Reeves came along with the inevitable American remake, and even 2010’s “Let Me In” earned rave reviews. Yes, some cited redundancies between the two horror films, but seeing an eerie tale of loneliness reach a wider audience — without the original’s core complexities dumbed down or cheapened — proved more significant than any overlap.
Still, after three recitations of a tender friendship between one bullied 12-year-old and his vampire neighbor who only looks like an adolescent, further retellings demanded significant change — and Showtime’s new series of the same name,...

Sometimes it’s easy to predict the classic stories that will be adapted over and over and over again. Nobody bats an eye at the latest take on War and Peace or David Copperfield, or the latest production of Hamlet.
Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist’s Låt den rätte komma in isn’t necessarily the most obvious choice as 21st century Shakespeare, but the haunting 2004 vampire novel keeps being adapted in different forms and I somehow keep loving the variations and permutations. The book is already a dazzling revision of classic vampire lore and Tomas Alfredson’s 2008 feature Let the Right One In is a masterful mixture of horror, suspense and coming-of-age drama. Matt Reeves’ 2010 American take, with its name tweaked to Let Me In, is one of the most successful of unnecessary remakes, effectively echoing Alfredson’s film and adding just enough...

TV vampires come in all shapes and sizes these days. There’s the dynamically steamy duo of Lestat and Louis burning up the screen in AMC’s Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire (soon to be adding the adolescent—in this version—Claudia to the mix). There’s the chunky, funky Reginald the Vampire clowning around on Syfy and the insipid teen vamps in Peacock’s derivative Vampire Academy. And now, courtesy of Showtime, we meet the eternally 12-year-old Eleanor (a soulful Madison Taylor Baez) in a new adaptation of Let the Right One In, the chilling Swedish novel that has inspired two movies (go with the Swedish original) and several stage versions. Aiming for a more grounded realism, creator Andrew Hinderaker (Penny Dreadful) clutters this once-haunting fable with traditional TV elements including the police procedural and a sci-fi thriller subplot. Individually, these new angles are relatively well done and compellingly told,...

Once again, the great cycle of culture has come back around to vampires. This year, TV has seen a new season of FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows” as well as the debuts of AMC’s “Interview With the Vampire,” Peacock’s “Vampire Academy,” and Netflix’s “First Kill” — all of which were based on existing intellectual property. It follows, then, that the latest entry into the genre would be drawn from a story that was big during the last great vampire craze.

Plot: Inspired by the original hit Swedish novel and film, the series centers on Mark (Bichir) and his daughter Eleanor (Baez), whose lives were changed 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the human blood she needs to stay alive.
Review: It is amazing to me that in the 18 years since the titular novel was released, we are about to get our third version of Let the Right One In. After the acclaimed Swedish film in 2008 and Matt Reeves’ well-received remake two years later, Showtime’s take on the vampire story by John Ajvide Lindqvist deviates the most from the source material to create a unique blend of the narrative you may be familiar with combined with conventions of many other television shows.

Last week, more than 400 TV creators and showrunners — all of them women — sent letters to top executives at Hollywood studios demanding that specific safety protocols be put in place for pregnant employees in states where abortion has been outlawed, or soon will be. Now, letters of support signed by 594 men — including J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Greg Berlanti, Donald Glover, Aaron Sorkin, David E. Kelley, Taika Waititi and Ryan Murphy — have been sent to the same companies.
The text of the letter is short, simply saying the undersigned stand with their “female, trans & non-binary showrunner colleagues in demanding a response from our employers regarding the imminent crisis” at hand. It was delivered by replying-all to the first letter, and was sent to Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount, Apple, NBC Universal, Amazon, Lionsgate and AMC.
These activist correspondences have been instigated by the Supreme Court’s June 24 Dobbs decison, which overturned Roe v.
