One of the hot-button issues for striking writers is getting paid on time, a proposal that the AMPTP rejected outright, a WGA member says.
“Secret Invasion” writer/producer Cat Vasko told TheWrap the reasoning she’s been told behind the refusal: “Their explanation was, then we wouldn’t be incentivized to work as hard. It’s insulting to hear with the amount of work that we already do for free,” she said.
Vasko, who’s also written the script for the upcoming adaptation of the novel “Queen of the Air,” was picketing outside of Paramount Studios this week. She said: “The feature system has been kind of broken for a while. One of our feature writing proposals was just pay us on a weekly basis, the exact same amount of money, but paid to us weekly, so that when we reached the end of our term, we’ve been paid.

DC-based film production president Walter Hamada and exec Chantal Nong are overseeing for the studio as it shifts the focus of the two-year-old project.
The studio unveiled the initial “Plastic Man” pic in 2018, based on DC Comics’ quirky character that debuted in 1941. Amanda Idoko, who wrote “Breaking News in Yuba County,” was hired to pen the movie.
An orphan forced to live on the streets, Patrick “Eel” O’Brian was shot during a heist and exposed to an unknown chemical liquid that gave his body the properties of rubber, allowing him to stretch, bounce and mold himself into any shape. Black List writer Cat Vasko will write a female-centric version of “Plastic Man” for Warner Bros. and DC Films, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Amanda Idoko wrote the previous draft of the script which was meant to be a comedic action-adventure script. Although still in the earliest stages of development, Vasko will take the project in a new direction with a female lead.
“Plastic Man” was created by cartoonist Jack Cole for Quality Comics in 1941 and was later acquired by DC Comics. The character’s true identity is Patrick “Eel” O’Brian and the character was one of the first superheroes to incorporate humor into mainstream action storytelling.
“Plastic Man” has been published in several solo series and has interacted with other DC superheroes such as Batman. He was even a member of the Justice League at one point.
Former New Line co-founder Bob Shaye will executive produce.

Not to be confused with Universal's universe featuring its own classic monsters, now called Dark Universe, the MonsterVerse's next chapter will be Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019. Following that sequel to 2014's Godzilla, Godzilla Vs. Kong is set to bring the two legendary monsters together in 2020.

Adam Wingard, the director best known for his low-budget films such as You're Next and The Guest has landed his biggest movie directing gig yet. According to Variety, he is officially set to direct the highly anticipated Godzilla Vs. Kong film for Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.
This giant monster universe all started with Gareth Edwards' 2014 film Godzilla and it was followed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Kong: Skull Island. Before Godzilla Vs. Kong comes out, though, we have Godzilla: King of the Monsters coming from director Michael Dougherty.
Wingard is currently working on the live-action adaptation of Death Note for Netflix. He seems like a solid directing choice for this project, regardless of the fact he directed that terrible Blair Witch movie that came out last year. It will be interesting to see what he ends up doing with Godzilla Vs. Kong, especially with the big budget he'll have to work with.

One of the horror genre’s most promising talents, Adam Wingard, has been chosen to direct Godzilla vs. Kong, which Warner Bros. and Legendary are currently prepping ahead of its 2020 release. As you no doubt know, the film will be part of the studios’ new cinematic universe, one that began in 2014 with Godzilla and continued earlier this year with Kong: Skull Island.
We don’t have too many details on how the titular characters will cross paths just yet, and with Godzilla: King of Monsters (the next chapter in this franchise) not looking to stomp into theatres until March 22nd, 2019, it may be a while before we learn more. What we can tell you, though, is that Legendary and WB have put together a writers room for Godzilla vs. Kong, which is being headed up by Terry Rossio, who’ll work alongside scribes such as Cat Vasko, Jack Paglen,...

Cat Vasko has been hired to write the script for the adaptation of Gin Phillips' novel Fierce Kingdom, for Warner Bros., Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment and producer Denise Di Novi.
The thriller, which LuckyChap will produce along with Di Novi and Di Novi Pictures' Alison Greenspan, is set over three hours and tells of a mother and son who are trapped in a zoo with a gunman on the loose.
Phillips' novel made a splash ahead of the Frankfurt Book Fair in September, when it sold for a reported sum of north of $850,000 to Laura Tisdel at Viking. <a...

In an industry increasingly fueled by franchises, it came as little surprise when Legendary Entertainment used their splashy Comic-Con 2014 appearance to confirm their intentions to develop their so-called “MonsterVerse.” Hot on the heels of the release of Gareth Edwards’ “Godzilla,” Legendary announced they had picked up the rights to other classic Toho beasts Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah, teasing the audience with a title card that read “Conflict: inevitable. Let them fight.”
But before those inevitable battles can hit the big screen, there was a necessary amount of groundwork to lay. Enter Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ “Kong: Skull Island,” this weekend’s big release and the second entry in the burgeoning MonsterVerse. While Vogt-Roberts’ Vietnam War era-set adventure drama works well enough on its own, the film also introduces a slew of new monsters that make it clear that there are all kinds of M.U.T.O. (MonsterVerse for “Massive Unidentified...

Just as Kong: Skull Island crashes into theaters, The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that Legendary is beginning to make serious headway on its main event, Godzilla Vs. Kong. A writers room has officially been established, with Lindsey Beer (The Kingkiller Chronicles) and Pirates of the Caribbean scribe Terry Rossio among those on board to canvas ideas.
Rossio will oversee the creative process, before a single writer will be elected to hash out a screenplay. THR notes that Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond, Star Trek 4), Cat Vasko (Queen of the Air), T.S. Nowlin (Pacific Rim: Uprising) and comic book scribe J. Michael Straczynski (World War Z, Sense8) have also signed on to pitch their story ideas into the proverbial hat.

Margot Robbie is to play trapeze artist Lillian Leitzel in her next movie...
Margot Robbie, who is soaring from her performance as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, will take to the dizzying heights as the diminutive trapeze artist Lillian Leitzel in the film adaptation of Dean N Jensen’s 2013 book Queen Of The Air.
Letizel performed for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in the early 20th century. The swinging star was known for a signature move where she would dislocate her shoulder as she turned. She was the circus’ biggest star. The upcoming film from Warner Bros will focus on Leitzel’s tragic love affair with fellow circus performer Alfredo Codona. Leitzel and Codona both died within a few years of falling in love. Leitze died when her rigging snapped during a live performance in 1931. Codona died in a murder-suicide in 1937.

Godzilla vs. Kong sees Adam Wingard direct WB's shared universe sequel event, coming March 2020 with some familiar faces.
Godzilla has awoken from his franchise slumber in a big way, as if you haven’t noticed. Back in October 2015, Legendary Pictures shifted their King Kong prequel/reboot, Kong: Skull Island, from Universal to Warner Bros. This was no accident, because the Godzilla franchise also lives at Warner Bros. And if there's anything Hollywood loves more than superheroes these days, it's shared universes.
Godzilla vs. Kong is consequently setting up monster-on-monster mayhem that recalls the glory days of kaiju originators Toho back in the 1960s. This time, the billed battle will take place in a new giant monster shared universe, kicked off by director Gareth Edwards's 2014 Godzilla movie, Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island (2017) revival, and now Michael Dougherty's Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is playing now.
