Warner Bros. is bringing back The Fugitive film franchise, having tapped a director in Albert Hughes.
The Fugitive is getting a remake movie, in which we’ll undoubtedly be reminded of the notion that the embattled Dr. Richard Kimble didn’t kill his wife – even if an obstinate U.S. Marshal doesn’t care.
Warner Bros. has appointed Albert Hughes to direct a new big screen adaptation of The Fugitive, reports Deadline. The movie will manifest as a remake of director Andrew Davis’s 1993 Harrison Ford-headlined film, which, itself, was a reboot of ABC’s 1963-1967 television series. Hughes will work off a script by Brian Tucker, who wrote the script to the director’s Mark Wahlberg/Russell Crowe 2013 crime drama, Broken City, and will also be joined by producer Erik Feig.

CBS All Access has canceled its fact-based dark drama series, Strange Angel, after two seasons.
Strange Angel just had its proverbial wings clipped by its platform home, CBS All Access, which has canceled the historically-based, lasciviously occult, television series, leaving no room for a third season.
CBS All Access’s cancelation of Strange Angel after two seasons on the premium streaming service, as reported by THR, marks only the second time in the platform’s five-year history that an original series has been met with cancelation, with the lone precedent stemming back to its December 2018 cancelation of drama One Dollar. However, it won’t be an isolated incident, with the merger of CBS and Viacom expected to unleash a deluge of new original content for CBS All Access, which will lead to a statistically-inevitable share of casualties.

Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Paramount Network series, 68 Whiskey, will manifest as a military dramedy.
68 Whiskey is ready to make its mark as the next blue-chip television offering on the rebranded-from-Spike-tv and still-burgeoning Paramount Network, set as the first original series to accompany its hit drama, Yellowstone.
The series, an Americanized adaptation of Israeli television offering Charlie Golf One, is a modern military dramedy that arrives under the auspices of executive producers in Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. Of course, 68 Whiskey will immediately evoke the memory of M*A*S*H., since, like that classic series, it centers on the daily travails (and hijinks) of military combat medics – in this case stationed in Afghanistan. Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios are producing the series.

The Walking Dead’s Christian Serratos will star as the iconic late singer, Selena, in a Netflix series.
Popular-music-focused dramatizations seem to have found new life, thanks to recent cinematic offerings like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, with many more currently on the industry docket. It’s a notion that Netflix might have taken into consideration with a television project it just unveiled, set to chronicle the story of Selena Quintanilla, the 1990s Mexican-American crossover pop sensation whose rise was tragically cut short upon being murdered by her friend and agent.
The Walking Dead's Christian Serratos will field the starring role on the Netflix television offering, titled Selena: The Series. The show will be released in “parts” (rather than seasons), with Part 1 arriving with six 1-hour episodes. Vault Comics’ space-set action title, Vagrant Queen, is getting a TV adaptation, which Syfy has ordered to series.
Vagrant Queen is bound for live-action glory. The Vault Comics title – created by writer Magdelene Visaggio with artist Jason Smith – is a fairly recent offering, having debuted back in February 2018, but it is now set up with a TV series adaptation over at Syfy, which has already given it a go-ahead as a 10-episode series.
Syfy’s TV plans for Vagrant Queen are already in the works, according to Deadline. As a production of Blue Ice Pictures, the series – an outer-space epic about an exiled queen on the run across the galaxy – is comprised of an all-female creative coalition of writers and directors, led by creator and showrunner Jem Garrard. With Ghostbusters 3 now moving forward, the famously-reluctant Bill Murray is hinting an appearance.
Bill Murray may carry an almost-mythical aura, especially when it comes to the Oscar-nominated film star’s off-camera adventures, but one subset of his reputation centers on his now-famous reluctance to appear in the long-mooted Ghostbusters threequel. It’s a narrative that, for decades, has bombarded the news cycle, with Murray’s cryptic comments and blatant trolling. However, his latest comments reveal a possible change of heart about once again putting on his proton pack.
Appearing at the Cannes Film Festival to promote his latest film, director Jim Jarmusch’s comedic-horror film, The Dead Don’t Die, Murray fielded the inevitable Ghostbusters 3 question, posed by IndieWire, with a surprisingly positive answer. neXt will arrive under Fox’s network television tentpole playing on increasingly widespread – certainly legitimate – fears about privacy from our own devices, specifically what information our artificial intelligence helpers are stealthily stealing from our lives.
While the news-headline-ripped topic centers on the idea that device-dwelling A.I.s like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home are gleaning metadata (maybe more) by listening to our conversations, the premise of neXt takes the notion a step further, showcasing the story of a tech mogul, played by John Slattery of AMC’s Mad Men and Avengers: Endgame, who is attempting to stop his rogue A.I. invention from causing chaos.

Action thriller Gunpowder Milkshake is putting together an impressive cast, headlined by Guardians of the Galaxy’s Karen Gillan.
Gunpowder Milkshake may sound like an ill-conceived idea for a combustible cold dairy drink, but it’s actually an intriguing action thriller – starring Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji actress Karen Gillan – that’s coming to the table with quite the ensemble for what’s shaping up to be a female-fronted assassin mythos.
Studiocanal and The Picture Company are conjuring the big screen project, which will arrive under the direction of internationally debuting helmers in Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, who achieved acclaim in their native Israel with the 2013 Hebrew-language horror film, Big Bad Wolves, and 2010 horror offering Rabies. NBC’s formerly-thriving thriller, Blindspot, lands a fifth and final season at NBC.
Blindspot, NBC's inventive crime drama, appeared to be on the verge of solving its last tattoo case. – At least, that’s what the network's recent move of pulling the show from its schedule signalled. However, in a surprising development, NBC has ordered a fifth season of Blindspot, which will serve as its last.
While NBC's confirmed renewal of Blindspot Season 5 did not come with confirmation of its number of episodes, the belief amongst the trades is that the final season will manifest with 13 or less episodes. While the move means that Blindspot is officially on borrowed time, it is, nevertheless a miraculous renewal, given the show's recent travails. As creator Martin Gero lauds of the pickup in an Instagram post, along with a teaser trailer for the final season:

The 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards has released its list of nominees. The ceremony, often a prognosticative weather-vane for the shifting winds of the subsequent Academy Awards, appears to be throwing some major awards-season-uncharacteristic love to the comic book movie genre with Marvel’s Black Panther, and even comedy, with Crazy Rich Asians.
Of course, the expected favorites – like The Favourite – got on the board. Indeed, while Galileo was nowhere to be found, Bohemian Rhapsody struck like a thunderbolt of lightning, as did A Star is Born and Vice. Additionally, notable small-screen nods were dealt to Better Call Saul, Ozark, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Handmaid’s Tale, along with one last shot for departing Cold War drama The Americans.

Netflix prequel series Narcos: Mexico Season 2 is now confirmed, continuing the 1980s-set exploits of the cartel drama.
Netflix doesn't plan to kick its Narcos habit anytime soon. A quick renewal was given in early December to the recent prequel iteration, making Narcos: Mexico Season 2 official.
Mind you, the billing identifies the new frame as “Season 2,” even though the November-premiered Mexico season was, technically, Season 4 of the main Narcos series, which makes this new one Season 5.

However, according to Payne, the demise of his character was a welcome one.
Payne, while enthusiastic for his work on the series, has apparently been an unhappy camper behind the scenes regarding the way the show has been using Jesus (a.

In the same vein as Making a Murderer, a TV adaptation of John Grisham nonfiction book The Innocent Man is heading to Netflix.
Netflix has teamed up with bestselling legal drama novelist John Grisham for the streaming giant’s next true-crime documentary series offering, The Innocent Man. The series will serve as an adaption of Grisham’s 2006 nonfiction book of the same name that – akin to Netflix’s pop culture proliferating true-crime series Making a Murderer – chronicles the legal ordeal of a man who, purportedly, was wrongfully accused of murder and, in this case, faced execution.
The Innocent Man will arrive on Netflix as a 6-part documentary series on December 14. The series is directed by Clay Tweel, who developed the series with Ross Dinerstein. The series depicts the ordeal of Ron Williamson, an Ada, Oklahoma man whose failure to land in the Majors lead to a spiral of self-destruction involving drugs,...

Rupert Wyatt gives us both sides of an alien invasion in Captive State.
Captive State is an alien invasion movie that carries elements from films like The Purge, Cloverfield, Children of Men, V for Vendetta, colliding with an array of other sci-fi.
Rupert Wyatt returns to sci-fi with the film after he followed up 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes with 2014 crime movie The Gambler. Indeed, Captive State is set 10 years after a successful alien invasion in a world controlled by propaganda. Crime and poverty have been wiped out (apparently) and – per said propaganda – there’s absolutely no reason to fear the giant space rock that hovers above the city.

Once Upon A Deadpool will riff on The Princess Bride and yes, Fred Savage will be there.
Deadpool 2’s new family friendly cut will now be called Once Upon A Deadpool. What’s more, part of the proceeds will go to charity – and that the new framing device will be a nod to The Princess Bride.
Seeing as how Ryan Reynolds spent years trying to make an R-rated superhero movie, the news that he’s prepared to do a big re-edit of Deadpool 2 for children seems a bit odd.
“Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006,” said Reynolds. “I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”

Raymond Chow, a giant in the Hong Kong film industry and perennial purveyor of some of cinema’s most important offerings of chopsocky, has died today at the age of 91.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson will helm murder-mystery movie Knives Out, starring James Bond himself, Daniel Craig.
Knives Out might sound like a reference to the fandom that started a social media maelstrom in reaction to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but it's the title of a murder-mystery that will serve as director Rian Johnson’s follow-up to that $1.3 billion worldwide-grossing Star Wars Sequel Trilogy middle act movie. While that fact alone gives Knives Out a good amount of gravitas, the newly-announced project is already touting its star, James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, who will be joined by Captain America himself, Chris Evans! They will topline what's quickly becoming an incredible cast.
A surprise announcement at September's Toronto Film Festival of Rian Johnson’s written/directorial follow-up movie – and the casting of star Daniel Craig – was a proverbial airhorn designed to preemptively attract prospective bidders at the industry festivities.

The Gift was solid enough with Sam Raimi at the helm, and The Reaping and The Resident both initially looked promising, but didn't ultimately make the grade, so it was interesting to us that the actress had chosen to dip her toe back into the scream queen water some years later, especially with an unproven director at the helm.

The Duke Nukem movie is still alive and is finally moving forward, with John Cena remaining the rumored star.
Duke Nukem is headed to the big screen. It’s taken a long time, but there seems to be solid progress on bringing the ultraviolent classic video game character to the big screen.
WWE franchise-face wrestler John Cena – whose stock as a movie star is rising, notably with his appearance in December’s Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee – was reportedly eyed back in January 2018 to star as the lewd, crude, flattop-rocking, heavily-armed exploder of things. While, nearly a year later, that rumor remains, we’ve heard next to nothing about the project ever since. However, as 2018 rounds the finish line, there finally appears to be some movement.

Channel 4 will adapt Monsters, the 2010 sci-fi thriller from Star Wars: Rogue One director Gareth Edwards, as a TV series...
Director Gareth Edwards, who impressed skeptical audiences with his work on the 2016 mega-franchise’s inaugural spinoff film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, hit the ground running back in 2010 with his feature debut, Monsters. Now, the sci-fi film, which delivered on its billing, will be brought to the forefront, with Channel 4 looking to adapt it as a television series.
The network, along with the film’s original production company, Vertigo Films, is reviving Edwards’s well-regarded sci-fi thriller for the small screen with global distribution ambitions, reports Deadline. Indeed, the endeavor, headed by Channel 4’s head of international drama, Simon Maxwell, has already spawned talks with U.S. streaming providers such as Netflix and Amazon to carry the series once its comes to fruition. Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles calls on action icon Kurt Russell to play Santa Claus and save… well, Christmas.
What would you conclude if we were to tell you that an upcoming movie will see Kurt Russell don a heavy winter coat in a snowy setting in one of the Poles while rocking a big beard to play a familiar character? – Sorry, but a surprise sequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing is not on tap, unfortunately. However, Kurt Russell fans might be able to embrace the more family-friendly idea behind Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicle, in which Russell is playing Santa Claus.
Director Clay Kaytis, a high-profile animator of big-budget hits, stepped in to direct The Christmas Chronicles, having made his directorial debut in 2016’s The Angry Birds Movie. Kaytis works off a script by Matt Lieberman, an up-and-coming screenwriter who is attached to developing projects...

Gareth Evans, the action visionary behind The Raid, co-created TV series Gangs of London for HBO’s Cinemax and Sky Atlantic.
The cult cinema myth of Gareth Evans’s innovative 2011 Indonesian action flick, The Raid: Redemption, is still resonating several years after its release. However, Evans, who tackled the upcoming Netflix horror film, Apostle, and remains in the mix the direct DC's (up-in-the-air) Deathstroke movie, is heeding the call of peak television as the co-creator – with Matt Flannery – of an action series, called Gangs of London.
Gangs of London, a co-production of HBO/Sky with Pulse Films and Sister Pictures and is set for HBO’s Cinemax and Sky Atlantic. It was first reported back in November 2017. Evans initially described the series as “a multicultural world of global crime as it intersects on the streets of London.”

Avengers 4 will serve as the sendoff movie for Chris Evans in his McU run as Captain America, the actor confirms.
Chris Evans is finished with Captain America.
Evans started his Marvel Cinematic Universe tenure as Steve Rogers/Captain America with a requisite six-film deal with Marvel Studios that kicked off with 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, a film title that clearly telegraphed the studio’s grandiose franchise plans. Seven years later, this past April's Avengers: Infinity War marked the sixth film on the initial contract, which, last year, Evans extended with one film, the 2019-scheduled untitled Avengers 4. That film, as Evans has just reaffirmed, will serve as Steve Rogers’s last hurrah.
Evans appears to be sticking with his long-teased idea of quitting Cap. In a tweet celebrating his final day of Avengers 4 reshoots, Evans seems to make his retirement from the McU official, stating, “Playing...

Idris Elba will return in as his embattled TV detective for Luther Season 5 in 2019.
Luther Season 5 coming soon. Despite a schedule filled with high-profile projects, international superstar Idris Elba will field another season, dwelling in shades of grey as the eponymous, emotionally tortured London homicide detective Dci John Luther, in the moody, gritty television series.
The latest season of Luther will manifest as a 4-part limited series that's bound for BBC and BBC America. Series creator Neil Cross, also known for his run on BBC’s Mi-5 and NBC’s short-lived Crossbones, is back in the bullpen for Luther’s latest run. The return of Luther is exciting news, especially after Elba’s rising stock was seemingly the cause of an abbreviated 2-part Season 4 in December of 2015; an offering that ended on a rather curious note.

Syfy is adapting George R.R. Martin’s novella and 1987 movie, Nightflyers, as a TV series. And it's getting an ambitious release strategy.
"Nightflyers is a haunted house story on a starship. It's Psycho in space." - George R.R. Martin
Nightflyers stands as one of George R.R. Martin’s more intriguing pre-Game of Thrones space science-fiction offerings, starting as a 1980 novella, eventually inspiring a schlocky limited-release 1987 film adaptation. However, it appears that the Literary God of Death’s old property is about to be reincarnated as a television series over at Syfy.
Last year, the genre-aimed NBCU cable outlet ordered a pilot for Nightflyers, which has since expanded into a series pickup (Netflix has first run rights outside the U.S.). Additionally, Nightflyers recently received a bountiful boon of €850,000 from the Irish Film Board and will soon begin filming at Limerick’s Troy Studios.

The Wheel of Time, the sprawling fantasy novel mythology by Robert Jordan, is heading to Amazon Prime as a series.
One of the most popular fantasy franchises of the literary world, The Wheel of Time, is getting a live-action television adaptation. Originally authored by Robert Jordan, the 80 million-selling 1990-2013 book series depicts a sprawling mythology, amalgamating feudal and magical tropes with elements of Eastern mysticism. While the project was first brought to the table by Sony, the latest development has procured its home.
Amazon has given a series order to The Wheel of Time, setting the project as an hour-long series that will stream on Amazon Prime Video, as reported Deadline and confirmed by an Apv retweet. The move serves as the culmination of what has been a year-and-a-half process, which commenced back in April 2017, when it was first reported that Sony Pictures Television was moving forward with the TV project.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 3 will see the Netflix series come to its unhappy ending.
A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 3 will conclude the tumultuous tale of the luckless Baudelaire children, promising the answers we've long been anticipating.
Back in March 2018, Neil Patrick Harris talked with TV Guide about the series conclusion in Season 3; a plan in place since the beginning. "We're three seasons all in," Harris told the outlet. "We've intentionally been very truthful and factual and loyal to the books. We've added a few characters that aren't in the books, we've added some songs that you probably couldn't put into the books, but for the most part we're sticking to the structure of what already worked."
As the book series has 13 installments and Season 1 of the Netflix show covered the first four, the three-season structure makes a lot of sense. And, franky,...

John Wick’s Chad Stahelski will team with Colony's Ryan Condal for the Highlander reboot.
In an entertainment industry age in which the 1980s are habitually mined for reboot fodder, one of that prolific decade’s most expansive multimedia properties, Highlander, has somehow remained untapped for the better part of two decades. That, however, is about to change.
