The perils and plights of adolescence have long been a source of fascination for television audiences. That’s particularly apparent nowadays with Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Showtime, FX, and others vying for zeitgeist dominance with teen-focused dramas playing to a variety of creative strengths. As narratives have gotten more sophisticated overall across the TV landscape, it makes sense that the ways in which we look at stories about young people have also evolved. From “Never Have I Ever” to “Yellowjackets,” TV teens in 2023 are among some of the most rich ever written.

Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. is calling it a day. Disney+ has canceled the medical dramedy after two seasons. Deadline confirmed the cancellation on Friday, August 25, the news coming nearly five months after the 10-episode second season started streaming on Disney+. A reboot of Doogie Howser, M.D., the ‘90s-era TV series that starred Neil Patrick Harris in the title role, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. featured Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Dr. Lahela Kamealoha, a 16-year-old prodigy whose colleagues at Oahu Health Medical Center call her “Doogie” in reference to that earlier series. “At home, her doting dad, Benny [Jason Scott Lee], and her career-driven mom, Clara [Kathleen Rose Perkins], the hospital’s Chief of Medicine and Lahela’s boss, fear she’s growing up too fast,” Disney+ added in a Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. description. “Lahela struggles to operate in two very different worlds and stay balanced.” In Season 2, Lahela’s...

Five months on from the Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. Season 2 finale, we have an answer about the show's fate.
Unfortunately, it's not good news.
TV Line reports that the medical drama reboot has been canceled and won't return for a third season.
It's unclear at this stage whether the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes governed the decision to end the show, and we'll probably never get an answer.
The series was a coming-of-age dramedy inspired by the hit medical series Doogie Howser, M.D. It follows Lahela "Doogie" Kamealoha, a 16-year-old prodigy juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager.
With the support of her caring and comical 'ohana (family) and friends, Lahela is determined to make the most of her teenage years and forge her own path.

Disney Plus viewers notice ‘horrible CGI’ in new movie Prom Pact: ‘They look like Sims 2 characters’
A glaring mistake in Disney Plus’s new film Prom Pact has left viewers “horrified”.
The streamer’s latest movie stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee as high school senior Mandy Yang. In the film, Mandy’s desperation to get off Harvard University’s waitlist forces her to befriend all-star jock Graham Lansing (Blake Draper), whose powerful father is a Harvard alum.
In the opening sequence, Mandy is seen digging through the school’s lost and found while the rest of the student body are in the gym attending a pep rally.
For a brief moment, as the camera pans to the students in the gym’s bleachers, a row of expressionless CGI characters can be spotted robotically clapping along behind a row of basketball players.
“Why are [there] AI people in Prom Pact?” someone asked in a viral tweet, alongside a screenshot of the scene.

Children of the ’80s, rejoice! Disney+ has done the impossible— unite Gens X and Z — by fusing nostalgic gems from the golden era of Swatch watches and parachute pants with a genuinely delightful rom-com that doesn’t dare speak down to teens of today. And we are swooning! So much so, this guy could barely get his words straight during our chat with the stars (see above stammering). Prom Pact, dropping Thursday, March 30, stars Doogie Kamealoha M.D.‘s effervescent Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Mandy Yang, a quirky brainiac with Harvard in her heart and entirely over the over-the-top “promposals” popping up all over the halls of her high school. When she finds out that her college dreams have been wait-listed, Mandy tries to up her shot of getting in by tutoring jerky all-star jock Graham (Aussie dreamboat Blake Draper), whose dad just so happens to be a powerful senator and Harvard alum.

Few events loom larger in the minds of movie teenagers than prom. Dreams are realized, bullies are put in their place, girls are declared “all that.” Real life is rarely as dramatic, thankfully, but that doesn’t mean we should expect studios (and streamers) to stop trying to make the next “Pretty in Pink” or “10 Things I Hate About You” anytime soon. Disney offer a fresh take on teendom’s big night with “Prom Pact,” in which two platonic best friends who are more comfortable on the outside looking in decide to finally step into the fray of high school life.
Mandy Yang (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) first appears in a Ruth Bader Ginsburg T-shirt, obsessively refreshing her Harvard application in the hopes that it’s gone from “pending” to “accepted” while trying to avoid the pep rally where North Seattle High will officially announce its prom theme: the ‘80s.

Says Butler, “There’s something truly magical about walking into a room and seeing a table full of gorgeous sculpts, gorgeous artwork that’s been created by very talented people.”
David Burke, Laika chief marketing officer and SVP of operations, adds: “Laika creates movies that matter. It takes a community of talented artists, artisans and technologists to make a Laika film. From “Never Have I Ever” and “Love, Victor” to “Yellowjackets” and “Stranger Things,” TV teens in 2022 are among some of the most rich ever written.

When “Fresh Off the Boat” premiered in 2015, only a handful of shows with a predominantly Asian American cast had ever aired in primetime — and none of them lasted long. But the success of that ABC sitcom, which spanned six seasons, 116 episodes and made it to syndication, finally inspired a long-overdue boom in series and films featuring Asian American leads — including “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.,” from “Fresh Off the Boat” producing partners Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar.
“Fresh Off the Boat” may have ended, but Kasdan and Mar — who have been based at 20th TV for more than a dozen years — are continuing to lead TV’s expansion in Asian American and Pacific Islander representation. As Aapi Heritage Month coincidentally gets underway this May, Kasdan and Mar currently have eight active TV and film projects, all showcasing different elements of the vast Aapi experience.

Paramount Plus has released the official trailer for “The Offer,” the upcoming drama miniseries that chronicles the making of “The Godfather.”
Set in the early 1970s, “The Offer” stars Miles Teller as Albert S. While the series faces typical behind the scenes tension between its director Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler) and producing team, the filming grows more complicated when mob boss Joe Colombo (Giovanni Ribisi) signs on to help assist in the production. In addition to Teller, Gallo, Fogler and Ribisi, the series will also star Matthew Goode, Juno Temple, Burn Gorman and Colin Hanks.

The doctor is (staying) in. Disney+ has ordered a second season of Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., TVLine has confirmed.
Peyton Elizabeth Lee (Disney Channel’s Andi Mack) stars as the titular teenage doctor in this gender-swapped reboot of the classic series Doogie Howser, M.D., which starred a young Neil Patrick Harris in the title role. In fact, Nph’s character is the reason Lee’s character, whose first name is actually Lahela, got her nickname. That little tie-in was revealed in the pilot.

TV Fanatic staff compiled a list of the revivals and reboots of 2021, and we enjoyed almost all of them on this list. Only one was an absolute miss.
Which one of these shows were you glad to see return?
Which ones did you wish stayed gone and buried?
Dexter: New Blood (Showtime)-Best
Dexter: New Blood is a bit of a slow burn but worth every flame. Dexter: New Blood is a welcome return for fans and newbies alike.
Ties to the past are haunting while the new characters intermingle with chill. Clancy Brown adds major creep-factor, as per usual,...
