The fat-trimming of Paramount’s streaming operations comes amidst the company’s efforts to find a buyer or merger partner.

The cast of season two of Tulsa King keeps building, as Neal McDonough has signed on to appear as a series regular of the Paramount+ series.
The news that McDonough would be joining the cast of Tulsa King comes just one month after it was announced that Frank Grillo – who plays Brock Rumlow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – would be playing a vital role in season two, taking on the role of a mobster named Bill Bevilaqua. As for McDonough’s role, Variety reports that he will be playing “a powerful and extremely territorial businessman” named Cal Thresher.
McDonough has been a staple on television for a few decades now, with recurring roles on World War II miniseries Band of Brothers, animated series The Incredible Hulk, ABC’s Desperate Housewives, western Justified, and more.

Sylvester Stallone’s underdog story and meteoric rise as a Hollywood star have long been talked about over the years. The actor had to make a lot of sacrifices to make sure that Hollywood took notice of him and his script for Rocky. With no acting godfather by his side, his struggle paid off greatly, as Rocky has become his signature role and franchise that he is popularly known for.
Sylvester Stallone wrote and played the lead in 1976’s Rocky
In his long and illustrious career, Stallone has never played a gangster and was never approached by filmmakers for it. That changed when Taylor Sheridan came to him for Tulsa King. The two shared many things and were friends long before the project came to fruition. Stallone found many similarities between Sheridan’s career and his and this formed a deep connection between them.

In Rocky II, Sylvester Stallone’s character has to learn how to box right-handed due to the eyesight problems he developed following his first fight with Apollo Creed, but it was a real-life injury which prompted this twist.
During the TMZ special Arnold & Sly: Rivals, Friends, Icons, Stallone revealed that he tore his pec muscle right off the bone while training with Franco Columbu. This was just a month and a half before he was scheduled to start shooting Rocky II. “So, I go down, and it’s maybe only 200 [lbs]. I’m just warming up, and I hear a Pow!” Stallone said. “I fall on the floor. And Franco goes, ‘Let me see.’ He jams his fingers — I’ve torn my pec off the bone. I mean, bad. One of the best results of the #MeToo and woke movements is the fact that the on-set climates on many shows and movies changed. It is known that a filming set is a very special and closed-off space and that many things can happen there, most of which forever remain hidden from the public eye. People haven’t been encouraged to talk about the on-set issues, which would lead to a toxic atmosphere. But, after these important social movements, the climate has been changing and people less often tolerate toxic behavior during filming. One such story seemingly happened on the set of the Sylvester Stallone-led series Tulsa King, as the actor was accused of inappropriate behavior towards background actors.

Season One of the original Paramount+ series Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone, made its broadcast debut on CBS prior to Season Two launching exclusively on Paramount+
The series is one of the streamer’s most-watched series of all-time, ranking second only behind Taylor Sheridan’s 1923.
Tulsa King follows New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone), just after he is released from prison after 25 years and unceremoniously exiled by his boss to set up shop in Tulsa, Okla. Realizing that his mob family may not have his best interests in mind, Dwight slowly builds a “crew” from a group of unlikely characters, to help him establish a new criminal empire in a place that to him might as well be another planet.
The first season of the series also stars Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Max Casella, Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza, Jay Will, A.C. Peterson with Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delany.

‘Tulsa King’ Casting Company Quits After Sylvester Stallone Accused Of Disparaging Background Actors
An Atlanta-based casting company has left Tulsa King in the wake of allegations that Sylvester Stallone and one of the directors had disparaged some background actors who were working on the Paramount+ drama.
Rose Locke Casting of Atlanta was hired to find actors ages 18 and over for the second season of the Taylor Sheridan series. But apparently the working conditions on Tulsa King soon became fodder on a private Facebook page for Atlanta-based background actors; Stallone and an unnamed director were accused of calling some of the extras “ugly,” “tub of lard” and “fat guy with cane.” The recipient of the latter comment apparently said later that it “hurt his soul” to hear himself described that way on set.
Allegedly, Stallone then suggested that production bring in “pretty young girls to be around me,” instead.
Rose Locke Casting announced on its Facebook page Sunday that it was leaving the show.

After adding impressive viewership numbers to CBS‘s broadcast presentation of Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King is making a similar move this summer. The acclaimed original Paramount+ drama Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone, will air its first season on CBS ahead of its Season 2 premiere this fall exclusively on Paramount+.
The move to bring Tulsa King to CBS hails from Paramount Global. Like Yellowstone’s CBS screenings, Paramount hopes to rope more people into watching Tulsa King. The original crime drama plays exceptionally well with Paramount+ subscribers, and expanding to CBS should increase the show’s power and influence before Season 2. The goal is to whet viewers’ whistles with the first season and hopefully entice them to subscribe to Paramount+ for the second. Hey, it worked for Yellowstone.

CBS has had a lot of luck with its Yellowstone rollout, even though the series has been on for years and is available in full on Peacock.
It’s no wonder they’re looking to Taylor Sheridan and Sylvester to bolster their summer programming with a broadcast rollout of Tulsa King.
Tulsa King gives Yellowstone a run for the money when it comes to content the profanity. As we know, Federal law prohibits obscene, indecent, and profane content from being broadcast on the radio or TV.
Will that stop people from tuning into the broadcast version of Tulsa King on CBS?
Doubtful. And why would it? What you don’t know, you don’t know.
And there are plenty of people who prefer their dramas to be more watered down, and airing them on CBS gives many different kinds of viewers to see programming they wouldn’t otherwise.

“Lawmen: Bass Reeves” marks the latest entry in executive producer Taylor Sheridan’s increasingly expansive fiefdom at Paramount+, populated by various “Yellowstone” spin-offs and unaffiliated entries such as “Mayor of Kingstown” and “Tulsa King.” Like those shows, “Lawmen” gives Sheridan the opportunity to anchor a charismatic movie star to a compelling premise, all sprinkled with a high class polish paid for by the Paramount piggy bank.
Created by Chad Feehan, “Bass Reeves” stars David Oyelowo in the title role, a real life figure who went from slavery to serving as one of the country’s first Black deputy U.S. Marshals. He’s a fascinating figure who is more than worthy of a showcase all his own.
While this “Bass Reeves” was initially intended to bear the “1883” label, marking it as part of Sheridan’s extended “Yellowstone”-verse, it’s instead being launched under the newly-invented aegis “Lawmen.” Presumably this...

Taylor Sheridan’s “Lawman: Bass Reeves” is nearly upon us. And the first footage from the new series has arrived in the form of a very brief trailer (watch it above).
Originally conceived as a spin-off of Sheridan’s blockbuster “Yellowstone” spin-off “1883,” “Lawman: Bass Reeves” has turned into its own franchise of sorts with the official synopsis referring to it as an “anthology series,” with “future iterations that will follow other iconic lawmen and outlaws who have impacted history.”
David Oyelowo stars as Reeves (he also executive produces), who served as the first black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi and was the likely inspiration for The Lone Ranger. According to the official synopsis Reeves was “known as the greatest frontier hero in American history, worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.

Don’t tell Al Pacino you’re filming a reality show if you want Al Pacino on your reality show. Well, he was sly about it. “I threatened him,” he tells TV Insider. Ok, maybe not so sly. “I said, ‘Al, they pull you back in!’ No, I literally called him up in the afternoon and said, ‘Hey, why don’t we have a piece of pizza at Mulberry Street Pizza right in Beverly Hills?’ He goes, ‘Sure!’” Little did he expect.” The Tulsa King star says Pacino is more lighthearted than one might think. “He’s really a nice guy — I know the Michael Corleone, he’s the Godfather, but he’s incredibly funny and talkative and animated,...

Paramount Global fell way shy of Wall Street forecasts with ongoing losses in streaming exacerbated by soft advertising at its TV/Media group last quarter and a dip in filmed entertainment as well. The stock is down sharply — about 14% — in early trading
Revenue was flattish (off1%) at $7.26 billion in the first quarter of 2023 from the year earlier. Analysts were looking for $7.4+ billion. And the company swung to a loss of $1.1 billion for the first three months, from a profit of $433 million.
Sales in TV/Media (CBS and cable networks) fell 8%, with an 11% dip in advertising reflecting weakness in the global ad market and fewer NFL games on CBS. Licensing and other revenue declined 15% year-over-year primarily reflecting a lower volume of licensed content. Operating income fell 15%.

Veteran TV writer/producer Terence Winter has stepped down as showrunner for Paramount+’s hit Sylvester Stallone vehicle, Tulsa King — amid “creative differences,” our sister site Deadline reports.
Winter will remain an executive producer on the Taylor Sheridan-created mob drama, which in late November was renewed for Season 2 after just three outings and driving a record number of Paramount+ sign-ups. Sheridan, Stallone, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Allen Coulter and Braden Aftergood also serve as EPs. A search for a new showrunner is underway.

This article contains spoilers for "1923."

Last year we got a single-season prequel series, "1883," which gave us some backstory on the Dutton family who run the Yellowstone Ranch. In "1923," Harrison Ford plays Jacob Dutton, the brother of James Dutton (Tim McGraw), who we met in "1883." James and his wife have passed, and Jacob and his wife Cara (Helen Mirren) are running things now with the help of the remains of James' family. They're battling a range war with sheep herders, the Depression, which hit Montana far earlier than the rest of the United States, the end of Prohibition, and bad conditions for their cattle.
Sheridan, who is responsible for the "Yellowstone" saga as well as "Tulsa King," "Mayor of Kingstown," and the upcoming "Lioness," has an unusual way of working. He writes the...
