College applications and the SATs are already part of a stressful time for young people without adding murder to the mix. Much like her contemporaries, though, Nicole Davidson knew death could strike at any time or any place. The young-adult author uses this familiar rite of passage as the backdrop of her 1990 novel Crash Course. The setup is suspicious enough; eight teens in pursuit of higher learning, along with their strict teacher, hole up at a lakeside cabin during the Thanksgiving holiday. This recipe for danger is self-fulfilling once a student dies under strange circumstances. And until help arrives, the other students succumb to their isolation and growing paranoia.

Tribeca Film Institute (Tfi) top brass said on Tuesday they had selected nine creators for the Tfi New Media Fund and the Tribeca All Access Interactive Prototype Fund.
The Tfi New Media Fund provides funds and support to non-fiction, social issue-driven media projects that integrate film with content across media platforms.
The fund is supported by Ford Foundation’s JustFilms Initiative and recipients get $50,000 and peer-to-peer support to develop their projects and build audience engagement.
The recipients are: Vr documentary Blackout, co-created and directed by Alexander Porter, and co-directed by Yasmin Elayat; and pop-up museum Micro, co-directed by Charles Philipp and Amanda Schochet.
The Taa Interactive Prototype Fund aims to connect technology and filmmaking and encourage the development of novel ideas.

Festival organisers on Friday announced the Tribeca Immersive programme will comprise 29 Vr exhibits including 20 world premieres.
Established Vr creators and studios debuting new pieces include Marshmallow Laser Feast, Gabo Arora, Baobab Studios, Oculus Story Studios, Penrose Studios, and Within.
For the first time, Storyscapes and Virtual Arcade exhibitions will run concurrently at the Tribeca Festival Hub throughout the festival and kick off on April 21. The festival runs from April 19-30.
Storyscapes selections include six projects from four countries, three of which are world premieres including Blackout, a Vr project viewing today’s political climate through the lens of the New York Subway from Scatter creators Alexander Porter, Yasmin Elayat, James George, and Mei-Ling Wong.
Draw Me Close from Jordan Tannahill is a collaboration with the National Theatre and the National Film Board Of Canada on a blend of live-action and animation that explores the director’s relationship with his mother after her terminal cancer diagnosis.

As the Sundance Film Festival’s groundbreaking and technology-facing New Frontier section kicks off its second decade in existence, the 2017 edition of the section boasts its most stacked and varied programing picks yet. The full slate includes “story worlds” in Augmented Reality headsets, projection-mapped acrobatics, a Vr beauty salon producing neuroscience data via the internet of things and a host of socialized, interactive and immersively haptic Vr story experiences.
The rest of the lineup includes live performances, a feature film and augmented reality experiences built to complement 22 Vr experiences and 11 installations, showcased between three venues in Park City. The Claim Jumper will host 10 immersive installations focused on cross-disciplinary story construction, while the Vr Palace will feature 17 Vr experiences alongside an additional installation and the Vr Bar will offer a lineup of mobile Vr.
