From Children of the Living Dead to Zombi 2, the infamous copyright blunder that immediately placed Night of the Living Dead in the public domain means that unauthorized sequels to George A. Romero’s classic are a dime a dozen. However, despite these flicks usually being dismissed as cash-grabs attempting to ride the coattails of a better filmmaker, the fact is that every modern zombie movie is an inherent follow-up to the 1968 original in one way or another– the homemade sequels are simply more honest about it.
This is exactly why I was so interested in checking out Tubi’s low-budget love-letter to Romero, Festival of the Living Dead, as the film’s trailer revealed that the story wouldn’t be wasting time on re-introducing familiar zombie tropes and instead assumes that everyone (including the main characters) are aware of the events that went down on that fateful night back in ‘68. Plus,...

Festival of the Living Dead is not only the latest Tubi Original, it’s the latest film from Jen and Sylvia Soska. That’s a bit of a come down for the sisters, who, after Dead Hooker in a Trunk and American Mary, were loudly proclaimed to be the future of horror. Dave Parker, who was in the same position some years back, recently used a Tubi Original, You Shouldn’t Have Let Me In to prove he can still make an entertaining film. Can the Soska Sisters do the same?
Ash and Iris are looking to do something to celebrate Ash’s birthday. Her boyfriend Kevin and some friends stop by with a birthday present, tickets to the titular Festival of the Living Dead.

George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead is in the public domain, so a lot of people have made their own sequels and remakes to the film over the decades, put out their own releases of it, colorized it, animated it, etc. It’s a property that has never been dormant… but these days it seems like its undead ghouls are livelier than ever. The George A. Romero Foundation and the Cinedigm-backed Bloody Disgusting are making a podcast sequel called The Dead. Nikyatu Jusu is directing a film sequel that will be released by MGM. Greg Nicotero is planning to make a movie about the making of Night of the Living Dead. "You are so far up your career's ass, that you can't let anyone else in!" Oh damnnn! Decal Releasing has unveiled an official trailer for a girls trip raucous comedy called Tripped Up, from producer / filmmaker Shruti Ganguly. This is getting a small theatrical and then VOD release at the end of October. It's a comedy about friends bonding while on a trip to a food fest. Aspiring chef Lizzy sets off with her three best friends in tow to compete in the prestigious Saucy Food Festival. What begins as a calculated career move quickly turns into a madcap misadventure full of food, fun and female bonding, where the girls learn that "struggle" can be the secret ingredient. Which is literally exactly what one of the characters says to them. This stars Leah Lewis, Ashley Moore, Ariel Winter, Sasha Fox, and Vanessa Williams. Looks fun, but barely, as the rest of it looks really bad.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is not getting an encore on Prime Video.
Deadline broke the news late Friday that the streaming service has canceled the YA horror series after just one season.
News of the cancellation is somewhat surprising.
The show garnered mixed reviews, but there was a decent amount of buzz, which typically translates to viewership.
However, the streaming service never releases raw viewership statistics, so really any show can be canceled at any time.
The good news for fans is that the central mystery was pretty much closed up at the end of I Know What You Did Last Summer Season 1.
Written and executive produced by Sara Goodman, I Know What You Did Last Summer is based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel, which was also the basis of the iconic 1997 film.

The show stars Madison Iseman, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, Sebastian Amoruso, Bill Heck, Fiona Rene, Cassie Beck and Brooke Bloom.
The first four episodes of the eight-part series premiered on Oct. 15, with the rest of the show’s installments debuting on a weekly basis thereafter. Season one of I Know What You Did Last Summer came to an end on Nov. 12, and whew, a lot went down. Not only did we finally figure out who the killer is - ahem, Margot (Brianne Tju) - but now Margot and Alison (Madison Iseman) are in a relationship?!? Excuse me, what? We did not see that one coming!
"It was the hardest secret for me to keep," Tju told Us Weekly. "I believe once we started shooting the last block - episodes seven and eight - that [showrunner Sara Goodman] told everybody, and then when they were going to know anyway because the episode [scripts] were coming out. I think everyone kind of had the same reaction of like, 'Oh my God!' But then also, 'Oh yeah, that makes sense!' . . . Margot's definitely a little crazy!"

The Amazon Original YA horror series “I Know What You Did Last Summer” premiered on Wednesday night with an outdoor screening at The Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. Based on the iconic 1997 slasher movie which was adapted from Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel and starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe, the eight-episode series maintains the same initial set-up as its source material.
The series follows a group of friends who are bound together after they cover up a tragic accident that occurred on the night of their high school graduation. One year later, they find themselves targeted by a violent stalker who has discovered their dark secret.
Series star Madison Iseman told Variety that she was already a big fan of the cult classic. “I’ve always loved any kind of scary movie, especially the 90s slasher,” Iseman said. “It’s like the best...

“You can never really know anyone, least of all yourself,” Madison Iseman’s character says atop the first episode of Amazon’s I Know What You Did Last Summer. It’s a foreboding thesis statement, one that viewers won’t fully grasp until the end of the premiere — if even then.
Like the original Ikwydls movies from the late ’90s, this limited series adaptation of Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel also revolves around a group of teenagers keeping a deadly secret, much to the disapproval of a mysterious figure who — wait for it — knows what they did last summer. But what...

The timing is ripe for an all-new version of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” to be revived: The 1997 film starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Ryan Philippe, and Sarah Michelle Gellar was a contemporary piece with the original Neve Campbell-led “Scream,” which is soon returning with a much-hyped new sequel-slash-reboot movie, and slasher pop culture is now at a perfect millennial nostalgia touchpoint. However, unlike January’s upcoming “Scream,” Amazon’s eight-episode “I Know What You Did Last Summer” series isn’t also a continuation of the original series (including the 1998 sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”), despite the recent passing of the torch from the original cast. Instead, writer and executive producer Sara Goodman has created a whole other loose adaptation of the 1973 Lois Duncan novel of the same name.

The cast of Amazon’s upcoming horror series I Know What you Did Last Summer got a pleasant surprise during the series’ New York Comic Con panel Friday as the stars of the original 1997 film dropped by for some quick “fan questions.”
While appearances by Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Jennifer Love Hewitt were pleasant surprises for the Nycc audience, their words of encouragement and excitement meant more for the talent and creative team of the upcoming show.
“It feels like they’ve given us their blessing; that’s hugely meaningful to me and to all of us,” said showrunner Sarah Goodman. “The last thing we want to do is undermine what they’ve created. We moved to the next generation with full respect to the movie and to the actors that are in it.”
Set to debut October 15, the YA horror series is a modern take on the 1997 slasher.
