Riverdale Season 6 Episode 6
“Do we now believe in magic and curses?”
Since I began reviewing Riverdale back in 2017 I have yearned for one thing: For the series to become as unpredictably strange as the comics that inspired the series.
Friends, I am here to tell you that dreams can come true!
I have previously discussed ad nauseam on this site how Archie stories are constantly subverting expectations, and it is a pattern that the CW drama has back-and-forthed on a frustrating amount. Too often the series has knocked on the door of insanity then ran away that I became jaded and felt that as bizarre as the show got it times, it never quite went far enough. Or if it did, the craziness was given a humdrum explanation that took all the air out of its narrative tires.
But then came Rivervale. The alternate universe...

Riverdale Season 6 Episode 4
“Happy sad endings are the best.”
While the eagerly awaited appearance of now twentysomething witch Sabrina got all the pre-air hype, the fourth installment of Riverdale‘s “Rivervale” experiment is really Madelaine Petsch’s tour de force. Portraying not only Cheryl, but her ancestors Poppy and Abigail, Petsch delivers a nuanced performance — well, three of them — that shed new light on the tragedy suffered by the Blossom women across the generations.
As such, what was billed as a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover was instead a Gothic rumination on forbidden love and persecution that easily stands as arguably the show’s most mature hour.. Much ado on the series has been made about the curse that Abigail inflicted upon the town, yet here we see the damnation that the Blossom’s have been forced to endure in the “house of secrets and mysteries” that is Thornhill.

In a competitive situation, ABC has landed The Brides, a hot supernatural drama spec written by Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina developer/executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The project, from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, has been picked up to pilot with Maggie Kiley set to direct.
The Brides, a sexy contemporary reimagining of Dracula, is a family drama with a trio of powerful female leads at its heart. With strong horror elements, The Brides is a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their nontraditional family.
This is a new version of The Brides, which Aguirre-Sacasa and Berlanti Prods. originally had in development at NBC during the 2015-16 season with a pilot production commitment. Originally envisioned for the premium marketplace, the new incarnation, written by Aguirre-Sacasa on spec, was to lean stronger into horror...

Riverdale producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa heads HBO Max horror series The Shelley Society, and will shop Dracula spinoff The Brides.
HBO Max, the upcoming streaming service from the premium cable giant, is bolstering its lineup of original content at a rapid pace; a notion exemplified by its most recent order for an irreverently-themed horror series in The Shelley Society.
The Shelley Society will manifest as a Victorian take on The X-Files formula, following the quasi-historic exploits of Frankenstein author Mary Shelley and friends. The series order from HBO will pull the proverbial driver’s seat for Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, according to a report from Deadline. Aguirre-Sacasa – an executive producer behind current reimagined Archie Universe shows The CW’s Riverdale and Katy Keene as well as Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – will serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner here, collaborating with Greg Berlanti via Berlanti Productions. “Riverdale” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has another dark project in the works, this one is centered on a young Mary Shelley and is headed to the upcoming streaming service HBO Max.
“The Shelley Society,” a pilot co-created by Aguirre-Sacasa and “Riverdale” writers Tessa Leigh Williams and James DeWille, has been ordered at HBO Max, a representative for the platform tells TheWrap.
Here’s the logline for the show, which is described as “a Victorian ‘X-Files'” and produced by Warner Bros. Television: Young author Mary Shelley leads a band of Romantic outlaws–among them, her lovers Percy and the Lord Byron–against all manner of supernatural threats and monsters…including Shelley’s own iconic Creature.

“Riverdale” Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and two of the show’s writers have set up the drama “The Shelley Society” at HBO Max with a pilot order, Variety has confirmed.
The project follows a young Mary Shelley and a band of her fellow Romantics, including Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron, as they battle supernatural threats, including the creature from Mary Shelley’s own “Frankenstein.”
“Riverdale” writers Tessa Leigh Williams and James DeWille co-created the series with Aguirre-Sacasa and also serve as executive producers. Aguirre-Sacasa will serve as showrunner. Warner Bros. Television will produce.
This marks the first project that Aguirre-Sacasa has set up under his new overall deal with Wbtv back in August. He is also the COO of Archie Comics and has served as the architect of the Archie-verse that has built up at WB over the past few years.
In addition to creating “Riverdale,” which recently returned for its fourth season on The CW,...

Exclusive: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the key creative force behind Warner Bros. TV’s growing Archie comics-based TV universe, has lined up two high-profile new drama series projects, both in the gothic horror genre.
HBO Max has ordered a pilot and an additional script for The Shelley Society, a mash-up of gothic horror and teen romance featuring young Mary Shelley, which Aguirre-Sacasa co-created with Riverdale writers Tessa Leigh Williams and James DeWille.
Additionally, I hear Aguirre-Sacasa has a spec script, The Brides, a reimagining of the Brides of Dracula, about to hit the premium/streaming marketplace. It marks another collaboration with Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Prods., which produces Riverdale, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Katy Keene.
The Shelley Society and The Brides are the first two projects to come out of the new mega overall deal Aguirre-Sacasa signed at Warner Bros. TV in April.

It’s been more than 25 years since “Twin Peaks” first rocked ABC’s airwaves with the question of “Who killed Laura Palmer?” and made it clear that David Lynch was a master of television as well as film. While the auteur is returning with a revival series that picks up a quarter-century after the events of the original, we don’t have to only watch Showtime to get that “Twin Peaks” vibe.
Although the series only ran two seasons, the show has influenced countless of TV shows. The most obvious homages feature a central murder mystery that unearths the sordid underbelly of a small town. Wonderfully bizarre characters and dreamy, borderline nightmarish elements may also be hallmarks of a Lynchian homage.

With Free Comic Book Day not far off, publishers are deciding which titles of theirs best showcase their current vision as they hope to persuade diehard and casual customers alike to sample their wares. Oftentimes, a bit of synergy is at play as a property that is currently enjoying some sort of adaptation is given the spotlight. Not surprisingly, the folks at Arche have opted to shift the focus from Sonic The Hedgehog to Riverdale.
Factoring in that new promo material is constantly circulating for the upcoming CW series, as well as spinoff chatter already occurring, putting out a free comic tying into the much talked about show isn’t a bad move at all. Sure, Sonic fans may disagree and we hope they eventually get to read the tale they were promised, but business is business.

Supergirl, Season 1, Episode 10, “Childish Things”
Written by Anna Musky-Goldwyn & James DeWille
Directed by Jamie Babbit
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
This week’s episode marks the arrival of Toyman onto the National City scene, setting off more bombs in Supergirl’s life than she expects. Although the big villain-of-the-week is Toyman, the true center of the episode belongs to Winn and the lesson he learned from encountering his villainous father, which will in turn affect his relationship with Kara, changing their dynamic for future episodes.
The development of this story is presented well, albeit heavy-handedly. Having Kara relate to Winn by expressing how important he is to her both establishes the status quo of their relationship and reinforces their strong bond, so when Winn kisses Kara it raises the stakes. There are two roads from here: they could pretend it didn’t happen, or lay the truth on...
