The impact of “Renaissance,” the main title theme for the second season of “The White Lotus,” is felt far beyond the screen. Since the season’s premiere in Fall 2022, “Renaissance” has ushered in the Killers as they arrived on stage and Dominic Fike has closed his sets with it. But where the song has really hit is on the dance floor.
Grammy-winning DJ/producer Tiësto, a huge fan of the series, began including it in his sets toward the end of 2022. His “Renaissance” remix got its official release, with HBO’s blessing.
For the second season, Chilean Canadian composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer drew his original musical ideas from the script and from conversations with series creator Mike White. White “wanted the music to feel like it was boiling under these characters,” de Veer says from his studio in Montréal.

Another of Georgia’s past loves enters the mix, she commits some more questionable actions and many other twists and turns develop within the 10 hour-long episodes.
Ginny and her friends are no strangers to the TikTok scene, so some song choices reflect Gen Z’s poppy preferences. The show is also not afraid to explore both the high, happy feelings of life as well as the deeper, darker, lower ones, and it does so sonically with some beautiful choices. Felix Mallard chose a song for an important scene of his, and actress Brianne Howey easily chose a song to embody her character Georgia.

Based on Chris Bohjalian’s novel of the same name, “The Flight Attendant” follows the impulsive title airline employee Cassie (Kaley Cuoco) as she suddenly finds herself embroiled in a murder mystery, unsure of where she fits into the picture. Reckless and rash, she’s forced on the run from both the authorities and her own alcoholism-fueled trauma, which keeps resurfacing as she struggles to make sense of how her life careened so far off the runway.
Initially conceived as a limited series, the Emmy-winning show — also starring Zosia Mamet, Rosie Perez, Griffin Matthews and Deniz Akdeniz — will be back with a second season on April 21. Joining Season 2 as a new cast member is Sharon Stone, who will play Cassie’s estranged mother. In store is a new murder mystery with Cassie, now a civilian asset for the CIA, at its center. Below, we recap all of the mess — more specifically,...

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
With Daniel Craig’s reign as James Bond coming to an end with “No Time to Die,” this may be the perfect moment to give the franchise an overhaul. Perhaps the next James Bond could be female, Black or queer? “If they want to continue with this character and the franchise, I think you can explode it and do anything,” Ben Whishaw, who plays Q for the third time in the latest installment, tells me on this week’s episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “I don’t know what that should be, but it seems to me like it should be something quite radical, something really different. It’s got to change; it’s got to keep changing. We’re in different times now.” He knows that won’t be an easy task. “There will always be people who want...

The nonprofit Red Hot organization is celebrating Pride Month by releasing the first single from its forthcoming double album of dance music, a Billy Porter cover of the Juliet Roberts club classic “Caught in the Middle.”
The full double album is out July 2, pairing Porter and other artists with the production of Bill Coleman and John “J-c” Carr’s 808 Beach.
Since 1990, Red Hot has used music, pop culture and the release of 20 charitable, collaborative compilation albums to reduce stigmas, raise more than $15 million for hundreds of humanitarian groups, and support those whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS.
“I live at the intersection of art and activism,” said Porter. “30 years ago, no one even wanted to talk about HIV and AIDS, let alone celebrate the community with music and dance. There has to be joy in the middle of the pain, and i hope that things can and will get better.

“The Flight Attendant” opens with a montage set to the song “Good Time Girl” by Sofi Tukker, but music supervisor Frankie Pine reveals in her exclusive interview with Gold Derby (watch the video above) that the show was supposed to open with star Kaley Cuoco singing a song herself.
She explains, “Oh gosh, it was at the beginning of the pilot episode! It was so great! It was a drunk karaoke scene where she was going to come in and rerecord ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ and I had her come into the recording studio — she’d never been in a recording studio before.” Pine continues, “She was a pro! Perfect, perfect drunk rendition of ‘Call Your Girlfriend’. I had wished we could put it in some kind of blooper reel.” A split-second shot appears during the montage; no Robyn songs ultimately appear in the first season of the HBO Max dramedy.

(Warning: This post contains mild spoilers for Season 2 of “Dickinson.”)
One of the most fun aspects of “Dickinson” is that the Apple TV+ series mixes the life of 19th century poet Emily Dickinson with 21st century music. Last season featured needle drops from the likes of Lizzo and Billie Eilish, and in a super meta twist, star Hailee Steinfeld even contributed her own original song.
The second season of “Dickinson” premiered today, with the first three episodes immediately available for viewers (new episodes will continue to air weekly until February). And just like Season 1, there’s no shortage of expertly curated contemporary tunes to soundtrack Emily’s adventures.
For those wanting to update their Spotify playlists — or for anyone who just wants to pretend they’re at a fair or a seance — here are all the songs that appear in the first three episodes of “Dickinson” Season 2.

TV mysteries are a lot like bumpy flights: So long as they end well, earlier quibbles can be forgiven. “The Flight Attendant,” one of HBO Max’s first marquee originals, didn’t offer its finale to critics in advance, and the first four episodes have plenty of bumps if you want to look for them. But the sleek ride Susanna Fogel, Steve Yockey, and especially star/producer Kaley Cuoco have cobbled together makes it hard to push the call button, let alone start looking for a parachute. Meshing together a handful of genres — part mystery-thriller, part dark comedy, part surreal romantic-fantasy — the hourlong series careens forward with a propulsive pace, curious side stories, and an enticing cast of characters. Suspension of disbelief is a requisite and nagging questions need to be held until the end, but all signs point to net positive trip, even if a safe landing is still up in the air.

For Sofi Tukker, the music doesn't stop. When strict social distancing measures in place to slow the global coronavirus pandemic forced the popular Edm duo to stay put at their shared home in Miami for much of the foreseeable future, it meant that tour dates would have to be postponed and fans would have to some time until it would be deemed safe for live music to resume. But just because the Grammy-nominated hit makers couldn't perform bops like "Drinkee," "Best Friend" and "Purple Hat" out on the road didn't mean they had any intention of going silent. Instead, Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern have taken their show to Instagram where the two have...

Colombian duo Bomba Estéreo link up with their American analog Sofi Tukker in the sweltering electro-cumbia track, “Playa Grande.” Written and recorded in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, the new song is matched with a trippy video, which was shot near Bomba frontwoman Liliana Saumet’s home in Santa Marta, Colombia.
Directed by Mac Boucher — best known for his work with sister Grimes — the psychedelic new clip follows the foursome as they rove Costeño Beach on horseback, and prepare a series of rituals ahead of a bonfire party. Saumet plays a supreme deity of the sea,...

Kanye West’s Easter Sunday service was a joyous celebration in the Coachella Valley, filled with music and excitement in the early morning. The first service started around 9 Am Pacific time, with a second scheduled for 3 Pm.
West’s service is more music than religion, but has caught on in Los Angeles. At Coachella, a special stage was set up in the campground for the ceremony. Promoters said about 100,000 people were expected to attend, and judging from the livestream broadcast, those expectations appear to have been met.
The Sunday Service had a massive choir and orchestra. Watch the live stream above.
So far, the Easter performance has featured Stevie Wonder’s “Do I Do,” Gap Band’s “Outstanding,” and appearances by Chance the Rapper, Kid Cudi, Ty Dolla $ign, and producer Mike Dean. West also performed a new song, “Water,” and at one point broke down emotionally, being consoled by Chance the Rapper.

The 2019 Grammy Awards are on Sunday night, February 10, but while the main event is in the evening, most of the 84 categories will be presented that afternoon during the Grammy Premiere Ceremony, which stream online during the afternoon. And the recording academy has announced that Grammy winner and current nominee Shaggy will host the ceremony.
Shaggy may best be known for his 2000 hit “It Wasn’t Me” featuring Ricardo “RikRok” Ducent, which reached number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration. But by then Shaggy was already a Grammy winner. He was awarded Best Reggae Album in 1996 for “Boombastic.” Overall, he has been nominated seven times, including a bid this year. He’s up for Best Reggae Album again for “44/876,” his collaboration album with Sting.
