17,000 fans. The reunion of an American football dynasty and the coach no one expected to show. Televised live around the world while the reputation of a man considered “the greatest of all time” sits in the hands of savage comedians and one-time foes. What could go wrong?
But here we are, just days after Tom Brady took to the stage at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles for Sunday’s “The Greatest Roast of All Time,” and the walls are still standing. For decades roast comedy has been a beloved national tradition, once shepherded on TV by Comedy Central. It was a show that often targeted Hollywood legends or zeitgeist icons. It took the willingness of Brady, who holds a record 7 Super Bowl rings, to reinvigorate the format for streaming under host Kevin Hart. And not just any roast, which would typically be shot on a Hollywood backlot and edited ahead of its premiere.

One of America's strangest celebrity sagas came to an abrupt, anticlimactic close when O.J. Simpson died at the age of 76 on April 10, 2024. The Heisman Trophy-winning running back from the University of Southern California became a professional football phenomenon during his 11-season tenure with the Buffalo Bills. He was blindingly handsome and charismatic, as comfortable in front of a camera as he was breaking tackles on the gridiron. Unlike Jim Brown, Simpson chose to keep playing football when he embarked on his acting career; and though Simpson was typically cast in supporting roles, they were often high-profile productions (namely the Best Picture-nominated "The Towering Inferno" and the Emmy-winning miniseries "Roots").
When Simpson retired, he continued to act while staying close to football as an on-field reporter for NBC. You never knew where The Juice was going to turn up, but you were never unhappy to see him. This was especially true...

Let’s get this out of the way right off the bat: Yes, Alex Edelman’s new HBO special is funny. Like, very funny. One would be forgiven for being hesitant upon hearing the elevator pitch. “Just for Us” is Edelman’s third solo show, this one the true story breaking down his experience (as a Jewish man) of infiltrating a meeting of white nationalists in Queens.
“The first thing I did [after that meeting] was I called a couple of friends being like, ‘Oh my God, you’ve got to hear this stuff,'” Edelman said to IndieWire during a recent interview. “And then some of them are like, ‘That’s stand up.’ And I [said,] ‘No, it’s not stand up. You’re out of your mind.’ Turns out, they were kind of right.”

On Easter Sunday, an emotional Alex Edelman completed his final performance of Just for Us, bringing six life-changing years with the hugely acclaimed solo show to a close.
“After the show, I had a real sense of like, ‘Okay, it’s done now,’ and I really felt a deep connection to all of the people that have worked on it…and seen it, and all the people who gave it gentle or firm nudges,” the NY-based comedian shared earlier this afternoon. “I just felt the real comet’s tale of people and things and experiences that have come behind the show, and it was a sort of equal parts mixture of gratitude and sadness.”
First put on its feet all the way back in 2018, the show’s plot is thrust into motion as Edelman recalls being subjected to antisemitic comments on the platform formerly known as Twitter. Rather than blocking the offenders,...

Alex Edelman’s go-to order at Barney Greengrass is whitefish on an everything bagel with a side of scrambled eggs. The Upper West Side institution isn’t exactly his local haunt — he lives out of a blue Samsonite bag these days — but this New York deli is a magnet for the Boston-born comic. “It’s where my friends eat and argue,” he explains. “It’s where ideas start to take root. Oh, and since the show did well, I can always get a table.”
That show, Just for Us, is the Jewish writer’s celebrated narrative about the infamous night he attended a meeting of white nationalists in a Queens apartment. An extended downtown run led to stints on Broadway and around the world. Its recent return to L.A.’s Mark Taper Forum (March 25 to 31) and an HBO special (April 6) are his grand finale, a complicated one for the 35-year-old.

If and when Alex Edelman gets his own TV series, the pilot is effectively already written. Edelman’s recent Broadway stand-up show, Just for Us, is framed around his semi-covert infiltration of a meeting of white nationalists in Queens, New York. Surrounded by 16 antisemites, the very Jewish writer-comedian (born David Yosef Shimon Ben Elazar Reuven Alexander Halevi Edelman) ingratiates himself by schooling the group about Twitter best practices so that they can become better communicators. Hilarity, flirting, free muffins, and a dramatic sense of impending danger abound.

In the wake of a string of anti-Semitic rhetoric pointed in his direction online, standup comic Edelman decides to go straight to the source; specifically, Queens, where he covertly attends a meeting of White Nationalists and comes face-to-face with the people behind the keyboards.
The 39-year-old singer and actress was spotted having lunch with Alex, 34, on Tuesday (November 14) in the Los Feliz neighborhood. They were seen enjoying a meal at All Time restaurant before taking a walk through the Griffith Park area.
Alex is a rising star in the comedy world and he’s currently performing his play Just For Us at Center Theatre Group’s Mark Taper Forum in downtown L.A. The show has already been seen around the world, including on Broadway.

In Lee, Kate Winslet transforms into Lee Miller, a model turned photographer whose World War II images forced those outside of the conflict to confront the brutality of fascism. The actress injects award-winning cinematographer Ellen Kuras’ glossy and conventional biopic with an energy that ushers an enigmatic figure to the foreground.
The real-life Miller has had a quiet resurgence in the past few decades. In 2005, Australian writer Carolyn Burke penned a biography that meticulously chronicled Miller’s path to becoming a war photographer. Exhibitions in the U.S. and Britain in 2015 displayed her striking photographs of the Blitz and the aftermath of D-Day. Miller approached her war images with a kind of radical subjectivity, choosing to capture moments of deep empathy and pain. Considering the discomfort her photos inspired, one can only imagine how a firsthand experience of combat textured Miller’s interior life.

Flash forward 12 years and Max still feels guilty about his trap that sent Santa to an early grave along with the world’s Christmas spirit. But although Max buried Santa’s body all those years ago, he kept Saint Nick’s brain fresh in a jar, and thanks to a groundbreaking electrocution experiment he’s been working on with his brilliant friend, Paige Byers (Ophelia Rivera), as well as the body parts he’s been stealing from the local morgue, Max sees an opportunity to finally bury his own guilt and bring Santa back from the dead. The only problem? Once resurrected, this new version of Santa, aka “Santastein,” has something much worse than coal in store...

Above: 2019 art poster by Maks Bereski aka Plakiat for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The artist known as Plakiat, real name Maks Bereski, is one of a couple of incredibly talented poster designers currently spearheading a revival in the art of the Polish movie poster. The heyday of the Polish poster was from the early 1950s through the late 1980s, but the demise of Communism and the opening of borders brought about the end of a movement that used metaphor and surrealism as a form of subversion. In the age of the internet, however, appreciation of classic mid- to late-century Polish movie posters has only increased and there seems to have been a revival of the art form within Poland itself. Bereski, who has a Master of Fine Arts from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland, began in 2010 making his own fan art posters and is now much...

After hearing early demos from Kid Cudi, director Fletcher Moules knew he could connect with the vision of bringing a visual album to life through animation. Serving as an animated companion piece to Kid Cudi’s album of the same name, Entergalactic follows street artist Jabari (Cudi) as he is on the cusp of bringing his art to life in comics. His life changes when he falls for his neighbor Meadow (Jessica Williams), a photographer about to stage an exhibition. It was important for Moules that this special be a character-driven concept album, rather than one long music video, so the story and animation style were essential to get right.
‘Entergalactic’
Deadline: Where did the concept for Entergalactic come from?
Fletcher Moules: [Kid] Cudi had the idea. “Entergalactic” was the name of one of his songs from many years ago on an early album, and he wanted to visualize his music.

But first, the NFL star who just announced his second retirement was honoured with a special tribute by a fellow quarterback player.

Kyle Marvin’s feature directorial debut, “80 for Brady,” is an epic retelling of the 2017 Super Bowl, where then-quarterback of the New England Patriots Tom Brady guided his team to a historic comeback victory. But the sports comedy is grounded in jarring realism as Brady and former Patriots like Rob Gronkowski, Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman don their old jerseys for a cinematic reenactment of the nail-biting game.
“There was a moment we had all the trailers out off set, and I had gone back to the trailers for something, and I stepped out,” Marvin told Variety. “It was Tom and Gronk, Amendola and Edelman in their period specific — Super Bowl specific — outfits. I was like, ‘Woah, this is wild.'”

Anthony Fauci said that when he was approached by the National Portrait Gallery of an “unusual person” they suggested to create his portrait, “not only was I not reluctant about it, I got very excited about it.”
The result, a five-minute stop-motion drawing animation of Fauci’s career, is perhaps the most unconventional of all of the portraits at the center of the Smithsonian gallery’s biennial Portrait of a Nation Gala on Saturday, an event that nearly rivals the Kennedy Center Honors for drawing Beltway insiders, billionaires and celebrity.
The Fauci work from artist Hugo Crosthwaite covers the bookends of his career, from his work on HIV/AIDS in the 1980s to the current Covid pandemic.
“He showed so many subtle things in there,” Fauci told Deadline. “If you watch it more than once, you will see it is not only about the illness and the suffering, but about...
