Returning for its 30th anniversary edition next year, Slamdance Film Festival has now unveiled its full film lineup for 2024. Kicking off with Oscar-winning filmmaker Carol Dysinger’s One Bullet, this year’s festival will showcase 32 features both in Park City and Salt Lake City from January 19-25 and online screenings will be available on the Slamdance Channel from January 22-28.

This year, we proudly host the most inclusive and accessible festival we’ve ever had, staying true to the core objectives I aimed to cultivate with our programmers when I took this job.”
The 2024 programming was selected from more than 9,000 submissions, 1,729 of which were features.

If she only could, Sadie Sink might well have pushed for “Dear Zoe” to remain on the shelf that’s been holding it since it was made in 2019. Back then, this ungainly mashup between a YA romance and an old-fashioned Afterschool Special probably looked like a decent bet. Yes, it’s ill-conceived and overwrought. But it gave Sink a chance at her first leading film role, which is tough to turn down.
Since then, of course, Sink has become a small-screen star thanks to “Stranger Things,” and boosted her big-screen cred with a buzzy supporting role in Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming drama “The Whale.” All of which suddenly makes the return of this unfortunate effort a bit awkward.
There is a bright spot, however. Those who seek it out will be the exact audience to which it appears obsessively orchestrated: teenage Sadie Sink fans who adored the 2005 source novel by Philip Beard.

It’s nearly time for “Queen Sugar” fans to “take flight” one last time, as we prepare to say goodbye to the Bordelon family.
OWN has released the official trailer for the seventh and final season of the critically acclaimed drama, created by Ava DuVernay and executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, which begins Tuesday, Sept. 6.
“If we do not honor our past, we dishonor our future. Listen,” says Rutina Wesley’s Nova, the eldest Bordelon sibling, as the clip begins, previewing the tense and tender scenes that will play out over the next 13 episodes.
The first look, set to Al Green’s “Love and Happiness,” tees up the latest developments in the lives of Bordelons: Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) and Darla (Bianca Lawson) have welcomed their second child, a daughter, and they continue to fight for their family’s future by exorcising their personal demons — namely, his deal with the...

Queen Sugar creator and executive producer Ava DuVernay, who directed the pilot, will return to direct the series’ final episode. Production on the seventh and final season has begun in and around New Orleans.

When Queen Sugar first began production in 2016, DuVernay made a commitment to exclusively hire women as directors, and kept that promise through the entire series run. Vampires of New Orleans is written by Chris Kobin (2001 Maniacs) and directed by Ashley Hamilton who has appeared as an actor in films like Iron Man 3, but makes his directorial debut here. It tells the tale of four friends who head off to Nola for some “fun times” but wind up in the presence of a peculiar New Orleans family who are plagued by a voodoo curse. Poor bastards.
The cast intrigued me immediately with horror mainstays like Bill Moseley and Lin Shaye (Insidious) on board, and a whole load of other acting talents, many of whom do a good job here. The problem here is, however, the tired cliches it approaches time and again.
