The Beverly Hills Cop movie series started in 1984 and it was one of the works that made Eddie Murphy a household star in the 80s and 90s. The first two movies were highly successful, but the third movie was a box office bomb and was panned by critics; today, it is considered to be the weakest movie in the series. Now, in 2024, amidst the revival/reboot craze, Axel Foley is back once again as Murphy tries to revive his career after a series of failures and controversies. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is the fourth movie in the series and it will be released by Netflix on July 3, 2024 globally.
As we wait for the premiere, Netflix has just released the first official trailer for the upcoming movie, several months after the initial teaser was released. We on Fiction Horizon are bringing you the trailer for your enjoyment!

Eddie Murphy is back with a badge for the fourth franchise installment of his beloved series, with “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.”
The upcoming Netflix film, which teased a first look earlier this year, marks Murphy’s long-rumored reprisal the iconic character Detective Axel Foley. The ’80s-era franchise first began with Foley as a Detroit detective turned temporary L.A. police officer for an uncover mission. Now, after having worked in L.A. sporadically for decades, Foley teams up with his estranged daughter Jane (Taylour Paige) to take down yet another conspiracy.
Along the way, Foley lands a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and police captain (Kevin Bacon), but his old confidantes, including Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton), are still in the mix. Also returning? Franchise co-stars Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot.

Throughout his career, Ozu Yasujirô regularly returned to core themes running through his work from different angles, and toward the end of his life he even made remakes of some of his earlier silent pictures. Of these, 1959’s Floating Weeds is perhaps the most closely faithful to the plot of its predecessor, 1934’s A Story of Floating Weeds.
Both A Story of Floating Weeds and Floating Weeds follow a traveling troupe of actors as they arrive in a seaside town to perform their kabuki plays. While there, the leader of the group checks up on an old mistress, and much to the jealously of his current one, who in turn hatches a scheme to have a colleague seduce and dump the man’s adult son. Further complicating matters is the fact that the son, the child of the ex-lover being visited, doesn’t even know that the troupe’s leader is his father.

One year ago, it was announced that the Netflix streaming service had renewed the serial killer thriller series You for a fifth season, which will also be the final one. We know Penn Badgley is coming back for You season 5 as the lead character Joe Goldberg, and it’s probably a good bet that season 4’s Charlotte Ritchie will continue to have a prominent role in this final season. It has previously been announced that Madeline Brewer of The Handmaid’s Tale will have a series regular role in the new batch of episodes, and now Variety has broken the news that Anna Camp of the Pitch Perfect films and Griffin Matthews of The Flight Attendant have also been cast in series regular roles.
Camp will actually be playing two different characters, as she has been cast as both Raegan and Maddie Lockwood, twin sisters-in-law to Joe Goldberg. Here are their descriptions: “Raegan is the cunning,...

This shouldn’t be a big surprise, but it will be a welcome one: Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F has officially been given an R-rating for “language throughout, violence and brief drug use.” Each of the previous three movies in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise was also released with an R-rating, so, as I said, no big surprise.

Three decades after he last graced our screen, Axel Foley is back, back, back. Eddie Murphy is returning to his most famous character in long-awaited fourquel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F – and he’s got a whole new squad with him. While there are familiar faces returning (Judge Reinhold’s Lieutenant Billy Rosewood and Bronson Pinchot’s Serge among them), expect plenty of newcomers too: Taylour Paige as Foley’s estranged daughter Jane, Kevin Bacon as police Captain Grant. And, most importantly, there’s Foley’s brand new police partner: Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Detective Bobby Abbott.
While Foley’s unpredictability is his greatest asset, Abbott is a much more measured presence. “This character is a bit strait-laced – I am an actual Beverly Hills cop, whereas Axel Foley is a cop from Detroit who finds himself in Beverly Hills – but he’s not a simple straight man,” Gordon-Levitt tells Empire. The alleged real-life stalker from Baby Reindeer has spoken out following the show’s success on Netflix.
An unnamed woman, who claims to be the inspiration behind Jessica Gunning’s Martha in the new, popular series, told the Daily Mail she was considering legal action for defamation following the release of the Richard Gadd project.
Baby Reindeer follows Gadd’s Donny Dunn, a struggling comedian who encounters a lonely woman at the bar where he works. The chance encounter, during which he offers her a free cup of tea, spirals over several months as Martha is revealed to be a dangerous, serial stalker. Over the course of multiple years, she sent him more than 41,000 emails, 744 tweets, 100 pages of letters and 350 hours of voicemails.
While speaking with the tabloid, the woman insisted that Gadd was actually the one obsessed with her. “He’s using Baby Reindeer to stalk me now,” she said.

When one sees Eddie Murphy, they won’t be amiss to recall the name Axel Foley. The American comedian has made a name for himself starring in the Beverly Hills Cop movies, a franchise that went on to entertain fans for decades.
Even Gen Z knows the legends of Beverly Hills Cop. But for Murphy himself, the name rings both good and bad memories. And well, the idea that he could have worked with Quentin Tarantino on the fabled project.

It’s been almost 4 decades since the Og Beverly Hills Cop hit the theatres. But Eddie Murphy still can’t do away with the desire to essay the role of the cop. It shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, considering that back in the 80s he owned the role of Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop.

Baby Reindeer has become an unexpected breakout hit for Netflix, but the attention has come with unwanted consequences, according to creatives behind the series.
Jessica Gunning, who stars as Martha in the drama, has called on fans to stop trying to identify the characters after social media has been flooded with false allegations.
Created by and starring Richard Gadd (Donny), Baby Reindeer tells the true story of the Scottish writer and actor’s stalker, played by Gunning.
Produced by Clerkenwell Films, the UK company behind The End of the F*cking World, Gunning said the online Baby Reindeer speculation is “quite sad” and “not the point of the show at all.”
She told BBC Scotland’s The Edit: “If you like the show and you are a fan of it, you should stick with the story of Martha and Donny being what connects you, not trying to do any detective...

Baby Reindeer opens with a disclosure typical amid today’s boom in crime content: “This is a true story.”
It’s a fitting declaration as the new Netflix limited series, which shot to No. 1 on the streamer’s TV rankings over the weekend to become the latest viral hit, is based on the life and experiences of its creator, writer, executive producer and star, Richard Gadd. The multihyphenate adapted it from his award-winning Edinburgh Festival Fringe one-man play.
Baby Reindeer casts Gadd as Donny Dunn, a struggling comedian who encounters a lonely woman one day while at his bartending gig. The chance meeting, during which he offers her a complimentary cup of tea when she turns up in tears, spirals over many months as it’s revealed that Martha, who is played by Jessica Gunning, is a dangerous serial stalker.

“An Officer and a Gentleman” star Louis Gossett Jr.’s cause of death was Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Copd), per Friday’s report from the coroner.
The report, which was first obtained by TMZ, lists Copd as his main cause of death, with heart failure and atrial fibrillation as contributing conditions. The actor, who made Hollywood history as the first Black man to win a supporting actor Oscar, died on March 29 in Santa Monica, Calif.
Gossett Jr. got his start on the stage with roles in plays in the 1950s and ’60s before breaking big with his Emmy-winning role as Fiddler in the 1977 miniseries “Roots.”

It’s one of the most iconic Saturday Night Live sketches of all time — and without Christina Applegate, it might never have happened at all.
Applegate recalled the role she played in getting the sketch on the air while chatting with Dana Carvey and David Spade on today’s episode of “Fly on the Wall,” the duo’s SNL-centric podcast.
Applegate first hosted SNL on May 8, 1993 — an episode most famous for the first appearance of Chris Farley’s motivational speaker character Matt Foley, aka the “Van Down by the River” guy.
In the infamous sketch, Farley’s over-the-top physical comedy quickly causes Applegate and Spade to break into laughter. They struggle to contain it for the rest of the scene, as Farley hikes his pants up, squats low, and destroys a coffee table with an explosive jump.

Exclusive: Big Beach, the production company behind Starz’s Vida and Facebook’s Sorry For Your Loss, has landed television rights to Alexandra Tanner’s debut novel Worry.
Worry follows two siblings-turned-roommates, one a 28-year-old media employee, navigating an absurd world on the verge of calamity. The book has been described as a “Seinfeldian” novel of existentialism and sisterhood.
Lesley Arfin, co-creator of Netflix comedy series Love, which starred Gillian Jacobs, has signed on to write the pilot episode alongside Tanner.
Worry was released last week by Scribner and was described by the New York Times as a “fabulous comic novel of young adult angst.”
Set in 2019, it follows 28-year-old Jules Gold — anxious, artistically frustrated, and internet-obsessed — who has been living alone in the apartment she once shared with the man she thought she’d marry when her younger sister Poppy comes to crash. Indefinitely. Poppy, a year and a...

The death of Louis Gossett Jr. has prompted many cinephiles to recall his acclaimed performance in Taylor Hackford’s “An Officer and a Gentleman,” for which he became the first Black man to win an Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Gossett’s turn as endlessly demanding Marine drill sergeant Emil Foley remains the most beloved role of his career, and his co-star Richard Gere had only positive things to say about the actor in a new interview with Variety
“We were all proud of the film and Lou was proud of his work in it — and he should be! He was a humble guy,” Gere said as he recalled Gossett’s Oscar win. “We were pleased for him as an artist, and as a man, that he got that recognition.”

Being an under-the-radar production, which was made on a budget of $7M, no one expected An Officer and a Gentleman to be a humongous hit. But against all odds, the Richard Gere-led film went on to smash the box office upon its release, becoming a surprise hit, which not only racked in $190M but also garnered 2 Academy wins under his belt.
Among the two wins, one involved Louis Gossett Jr.’s Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, which made him the first Black actor in history to receive the honor in that category. But the actor’s greatness transcends far beyond what’s onscreen, as his costar Richard Gere dives deep into what made Gossett so special.

It’s been more than 40 years since “An Officer and a Gentleman” became a surprise box office smash, but from time to time, star Richard Gere still gets called out about the classic military drama.
“Every once in a while, I hear people calling me from across the street, ‘Hey Mayo, Mayo-nnaise,’ and that’s Lou,” Gere tells Variety, reflecting on the legacy of the film following the death of his Oscar-winning co-star Louis Gossett Jr. on Friday at age 87.
In the 1982 film, Gere plays Zack Mayo, an aspiring Navy aviator who clashes with his hard-nosed drill instructor, Gunnery Sgt. Emil Foley (Gossett). Gossett went on to win the best supporting actor Oscar for his performance, making history as the first Black actor to win in that category and joining Sidney Poitier and Hattie McDaniel as the only Black performers awarded at the time.

There had been drill sergeants in movies before Louis Gossett Jr. played one in “An Officer and a Gentleman” in 1982. There would be a lot of them afterwards. But it’s a role that Gossett made his own, and the movie role that, more than any other, came to define him. Gossett, who died on March 29 at the age of 87, was a great actor who imposed his presence; just watch the ferocious way he plays an alien soldier, under a mask of beaded make-up, in “Enemy Mine.” But in “An Officer and a Gentleman,” Gossett took the showpiece role of a tough-nut drill sergeant and invested it with such flourish that he made it mythological. He took possession of the role, infusing the very idea of the drill sergeant with a richness, a soul and wit, and a touch of something that no other actor ever brought to it — a quality of mystery.

On the passing yesterday of actor Louis Gossett Jr., An Officer and A Gentleman director Taylor Hackford and Roots co-star LeVar Burton remembered their late colleague and friend.
“One of the best to ever do it!,” Burton posted on X/Twitter. “Thank you, Lou… for everything!”
In a statement to Deadline, Hackford said:
“The role of Master Sargent Foley in An Officer and A Gentlemen was written as a white man. When I visited the Navy Officers Flight Training Center in Pensacola, Fla, I discovered that many of the Drill Instructors there were men of color. I found it interesting that Black & Brown enlisted men had ‘make-or-break’ control over whether white college graduates would become officers and fighter pilots.
“At that moment I changed the casting profile for Sergeant Foley and started meeting actors of color. Lou Gossett came to see me – I knew and admired his stage work.

Louis Gossett Jr., the tough guy with a sensitive side who won an Oscar for his portrayal of a steely sergeant in An Officer and a Gentleman and an Emmy for his performance as a compassionate slave in the landmark miniseries Roots, has died. He was 87.
Gossett’s nephew told the Associated Press that the actor died Thursday night in Santa Monica. The cause of death is unknown, but Gossett announced in 2010 that he had prostate cancer.
With his sleek, bald pate and athlete’s physique, Gossett was intimidating in a wide array of no-nonsense roles, most notably in Taylor Hackford’s Officer and a Gentleman (1982), where as Gunnery Sgt. Emil Foley he rides Richard Gere’s character mercilessly (but for his own good) at an officer candidate school and gets into a memorable martial arts fight.

The hunt for book IP continues to drive business.
Following what’s been described as a “highly competitive situation,” Universal International Studios (Uis) has bought the rights to author Lucy Foley’s latest novel, The Midnight Feast.
The Universal Studio Group (Usg)-owned Uis will develop a TV series adaptation of book, which publishes on June 6 and was among the highest profile titles on offer at the recent London Book Fair.
Foley will be an executive producer alongside former HBO Entertainment boss Sue Naegle and Ali Krug, who took over Annapurna’s TV development slate when Naegle exited her Chief Content Officer role at Meg Ellison’s studio back in 2022.
Usg’s Creative Acquisitions and IP Management played a significant role in the Midnight Feast acquisition, we hear. Several sources in the literary IP world have noted the increased U.S. presence at the London Book Fair last week, with Foley’s UK and U.

One year ago, it was announced that the Netflix streaming service had renewed the serial killer thriller series You for a fifth season, which will also be the final one. While executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter said that You was always intended to be a “five season journey”, showrunner Sera Gamble decided not to guide the journey to its conclusion. Although she remains attached as an executive producer, she has passed showrunner duties over to fellow executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo. Thankfully, Foley and Lo are no strangers to You. They have been working on the series since season 1 and season 2, respectively. Now You season 5 is gearing up for production, and Deadline reports that Madeline Brewer – whose credits include The Handmaid’s Tale, Orange Is the New Black, and the horror film Cam – has joined the cast.

Few sacred cows emerge unscathed from director Jessica Hausner’s Club Zero. No matter where audiences sit on the political spectrum, they’re liable find something discomfiting, if not enraging, in the film. Hausner and co-writer Géraldine Bajard can be applauded for the inclusivity of their derision, which is hostile to all forms of complacency. Then again, maybe it’s too easy to toss people and ideas so indiscriminately into the vat of irony while defending nothing, potentially leaving the viewer at a tiresome, cynical impasse.
