High School Musical fans waited a long time for the fourth movie. In 2019, it finally came out – not as fourth installment but as High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Created by Tim Federle, it premiered on Disney+ in 2019.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
The first season of the TV show didn’t follow the usual storyline from the Disney movies. Instead, it focused on real high school students at East High, where the original High School Musical was filmed.
The original HSM debuted in 2006 and was an instant hit. Disney subsequently released two sequels to the original film. The main leads in the original cast were Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. But, it seems like NBA star Anthony Edwards wants to replace Efron if the remake ever happens.

Midway through shooting Season 4 of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” creator Tim Federle told Disney he was turning in the final script for the Disney+ musical comedy.
He recalled telling Disney+ executives, “You’re going to get to the end [of 408], and it’s going to feel like I’ve wrapped the series. And that’s on purpose,” Federle told TheWrap.
“We mutually decided in this streaming era, when so few shows even go beyond two seasons, that we might as well go out on top with a complete story rather than ending on a cliffhanger,” Federle explained. “I’m really grateful that we got to end on our terms.”
Thus marks the end of one of the most ambitious shows ever brought to streaming. “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” which dropped its final season on Wednesday, premiered in 2019 as one of Disney+’s flagship series. The...

This week, the final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premiered on Disney+.
Unfortunately, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens didn't join their co-stars from the original movies to make a cameo on the spinoff.
But that doesn't mean we didn't get any indication about where Troy and Gabriella's relationship is in 2023.
Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel, Bart Johnson, Alyson Reed, and Kaycee Stroh returned to play themselves.
The group also resurrected their High School Musical roles as Chad Danforth, Taylor McKessie, Ryan Evans, Coach Jack Bolton, Ms. Darbus, and Martha Cox, respectively.
The returning faces popped up at East High to shoot High School Musical 4.
There were hopes that Efron and Hudgens would make surprise appearances for at least one scene, but it didn't happen.
The closest we got to Troy and Gabriella was a sad update about their relationship, courtesy of Corben.

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens may not have made cameos in the final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, but the Disney+ mockumentary still gave us an update about their characters’ relationship status — whether we wanted to hear it or not.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the fourth and final season of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” now streaming on Disney+.
The Wildcats of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” have taken their final bow.
The Disney+ extension of the popular movie musical trilogy concluded this week with an eight-episode fourth season that found its cast performing a stage — or rather, basketball court — production of 2008’s “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.” Members of that film’s original cast returned to East High to shoot the fictional “High School Musical 4: The Reunion.”
Although the original films have had a presence since the pilot episode — the series is set at the high school where the films were shot — the final season is the show’s most meta endeavor yet.

What time is it? Graduation time! Well, almost. That emotional day looms large as most of the Wildcats begin their senior year in the fourth and final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, the mockumentary inspired by the hit films. This round, teases exec producer Tim Federle, is their “most meta” yet. And he’s not kidding. The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) were the big winners at last night's Directors Guild of America's DGA Awards. The filmmaking duo took home the top prize, Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film, for "Everything Everywhere All At Once" — beating out directing legend Steven Spielberg ("The Fabelmans"), as well as Joseph Kosinski's massive aerial action film "Maverick," Todd Field's critical darling "Tár," and Martin McDonagh's black comedy "The Banshees of Inisherin."
These days, the Daniels seem to embody their hit film, being everything, everywhere, all at once. The Michelle Yeoh-led maximalist action-comedy has something for everyone, and is deeply, satisfyingly, weird. It topped many best-of lists (it was my #1 pick for Best Films of 2022) and is a favorite to take home the Academy Award for Best Picture. Now with a DGA Award under their belts, the odds of that happening are better than ever.

Tonight, directors took center stage as Hollywood convened at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the Directors Guild of America Awards.
The ceremony honored outstanding achievement in both film and television directing, and the former category is often seen as predicting the Best Director winner at the Academy Awards. Four of the five Best Director nominees competed in the Feature Film category tonight: Steven Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”), Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Todd Field (“TÁR”), and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”). “Triangle of Sadness” director Ruben Östlund is not nominated, with “Top Gun: Maverick” helmer Joseph Kosinski taking his place.

The all-important feature film category is one of the most telling bellwethers for the Best Director Oscar. The guild and the academy have only disagreed eight times over the past seven decades, with last year’s champ Jane Campion (“The Power of the Dog”) claiming both prizes. 2022, we aren't quite done with you yet. Award season has officially rolled into town, meaning it's time to reflect on the highest highs of last year as the industry awards (or snubs) some of the most beloved titles across film and TV. The latest awards lineup comes courtesy of the Directors Guild of America, which today announced the nominees across seven television categories.
Last year, the DGA television awards were largely dominated by "Succession" — as was every other TV-based awards show. But in its absence, both new and old titles have stepped up to vie for the spotlight. For drama series, the nominations went to Jason Bateman ("Ozark"), Vince Gilligan, ("Better Call Saul"), Sam Levinson, ("Euphoria"), Aoife McArdle ("Severance"), and Ben Stiller ("Severance").
Elsewhere, the DGAs are rightfully recognizing two of last year's best half-hours of television: the intense single-shot episode of "The Bear" and the impeccable sixth episode of "Barry" season 3. Hilariously,...

The Directors Guild of America has announced its nominations in its television categories, with several new series, including “Wednesday,” “Severance,” and “The Bear” receiving nominations alongside returning series such as “Ozark,” “Better Call Saul” and “The White Lotus”
At last year’s DGA television awards, “Succession” dominated the drama series category with all five of the nominees. This year, with that HBO series on hiatus, the nominees went to Jason Bateman (“Ozark”), Vince Gilligan (“Better Call Saul”), Sam Levinson (“Euphoria”), and Aoiff McArdle and Ben Stiller for two separate episodes of “Severance.”
In the comedy series category, Tim Burton scored his first ever career DGA nomination, for “Wednesday.” Burton was joined by Bill Hader (“Barry”), Amy Sherman-Palladino (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Christopher Storer (“The Bear”), and Mike White (“The White Lotus”).

Lewis said she was “so ready” to film the sequel set for Disney+ and revealed that it was her who taught Goldberg how to sing on the movie set.

It takes a lot to break the internet these days, but announcing the reunion of the original High School Musical cast is a pretty good start.
That’s (sort of) what happened last week at Disney’s D23 Convention, where it was revealed that the upcoming fourth season of Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series will feature a storyline where High School Musical 4: The Reunion is being filmed at the real East High, and the show’s characters will all be cast as extras.

It’s the crossover we’ve all been waiting for. It looks like the cast of the original “High School Musical” films and the cast of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” will be colliding in Season 4 of the Disney+ series.

This, of course, answers the question as to why so many “HSM” alum have been spotted at East High recently, including Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Kaycee Stroh. While Disney hasn’t exactly confirmed...
