Nowadays, it seems like a quaint notion that a television series might stay on the air long enough to run out of ideas.
But almost fifty years ago, even a successful show like Happy Days wasn't immune to using outlandish stunts to bolster ratings.
And thank goodness for that, or we might all have been deprived of the cultural touchstone that is Fonzie jumping the shark.
Fonzie Jumps the Shark (And Enters History)
The phrase "jump the shark" has become shorthand for the moment when a television show loses its creative way and begins a downward spiral in quality and popularity.
However, when the actual shark jump happened in the "Hollywood: Part 3" episode of the show's fifth season, Happy Days hit number one in the Nielsen ratings.
The series aired for another six well-received seasons and even had successful spinoffs in the sitcoms Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy.

As ABC prepares for the final season of The Conners, fans and cast members alike are bracing for an emotional goodbye. The show’s roots trace back to the original Roseanne, but it forged its own path despite facing significant challenges right from the start. The journey from Roseanne to The Conners The story of The Conners began in October 2018, effectively replacing the Roseanne revival after Roseanne Barr’s controversial tweets led to the show’s abrupt cancellation. John Goodman reflected on this transition, stating, It felt like there was more to point with this than just ending a show. This sentiment

The Conners have always struggled with money — but a financial development in the Roseanne spinoff’s most recent episode probably caught a few longtime viewers off guard.
Season 6, Episode 8 (“Toilet Hacks and the Management Trick”) marked Dan Conner’s 70th birthday. To commemorate the occasion, Dan announced to the family that he was going to start collecting his social security and union pension. “Yep, I beat the system by being poor and living longer than the government thought I would,” he said. (I mean, he lived longer than any of us thought he would, but I digress….)

Most of ABC's existing scripted series have already been renewed for the 2024-25 season, but The Conners is not among them. If the venerable comedy doesn't get a seventh season renewal, viewers will still get some closure.
Starring John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, and Jay R. Ferguson, The Conners series is a spin-off of Roseanne. The story follows Dan Conner (Goodman), his children, grandchildren, and sister-in-law as they make their way in the working-class community of Lanford, Illinois.

One of TV’s most popular families may soon be saying goodbye for good.
Currently in its sixth season, The Conners has yet to be renewed or canceled by ABC.
Deadline reports that the Roseanne follow-up has yet to begin negotiating deals with its stars, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert.
The focus is renewal negotiations between the studio and the network to keep the show on the air for a seventh and final season.
The Conners rose like a phoenix out of the ashes of Roseanne, which was canceled despite a huge reboot season after leading lady Roseanne Barr’s controversial comments about Valerie Jarrett.
The series has been a strong performer for ABC, but could the show seriously be canceled ahead of a pre-planned final season?
The Conners remains a strong performer

The Conners Prepare For Possible Series Finale
When reboots became the popular thing, Roseanne hopped on the bandwagon and brought back her iconic eighties and nineties ABC sitcom. It was all about the average family trying their best to get by. Sure, they made some risky investments and their kids took chances they did not expect. In the end, there was a lot of love, quirkiness, and laughter. After an awful final season, Roseanne returned in 2018, over two decades after the final episode aired. It did relatively well and was able to clear up all of the things fans did...

Actor John Goodman, 71, known for Roseanne and The Big Lebowski, was spotted with a slimmed-down figure at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York. Goodman was with his wife, Anna Beth Goodman this weekend. Goodman has lost a remarkable 200 pounds over the last few years.
Goodman wore khaki pants and a dark green sweatshirt over a blue shirt, while his wife wore a white blouse with dark pants and white sneakers.
Since 2007, Goodman has been working on his health after quitting drinking. The actor worked with a fitness trainer to build an exercise routine and reshape his diet. It was said that Goodman took on a “Mediterranean-style eating plan,” incorporating fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables and fruits.
Goodman’s exercise routine consisted of working out six days a week, aiming to take 10,000 to 12,000 steps daily with a treadmill or elliptical bicycle.
In 2016, Goodman talked to Howard Stern about his fitness journey.

Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot points from Wednesday’s episode of The Conners on ABC.
The Conners celebrated a big milestone — 100 episodes! — by doing what it does best: telling stories about small-town life and reminding folks that it has one of the most experienced ensembles on broadcast TV. Here, executive producers Bruce Helford and Dave Caplan talk about their six-season odyssey and whether it’s time to start planning for a seventh year on ABC.
Deadline: I still remember the day when former ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey abruptly canceled the Roseanne reboot. And now, the spinoff, The Conners, is celebrating 100 episodes.
Dave Caplan: We have a hard time believing that ourselves.
Bruce Helford: There are a couple of milestones. This is the first time to have the whole cast of a show hit the 100-episode milestone twice.
Deadline: Because you are celebrating 100 episodes, did you purposely...

For any television series reaching its 100th episode, looking back is a given, but there aren’t many shows with a 35-year history like ABC’s “The Conners,” the sitcom following the blue-collar family with an affinity for getting knocked down by life’s struggles while making us laugh along the way. “It’s just lucky, I guess,” says John Goodman, who plays patriarch Dan Conner. “Now all of a sudden, it’s 100 episodes. I can’t believe how fast the time went by, but I guess that’s just because I’m getting old.”

When you think of the great directors in cinema history – Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock, etc. – chances are the first films that come to mind are Goodfellas, Jaws and Vertigo. But every brilliant filmmaker has their duds. Now, Rolling Stone – you know, the publication that doesn’t think Roseanne and Bill Cosby had historic shows just because of their wrongdoings – has put out a list of the 50 worst movies by some of the most renowned directors…And yes, they have missed the mark considerably.
In the list, titled “50 Terrible Movies by Great Directors”, there are plenty of bottom-barrel films, those that are absolutely anomalies in otherwise remarkable careers. We wouldn’t argue that man-child family comedy Jack (#1) isn’t Francis Ford Coppola’s worst movie or that Rob Reiner’s North (#2) wasn’t worthy of Roger Ebert’s famed “hated, hated, hated, hated, hated” review. Those guys didn’t...

A familiar face showed up in The Conners Wednesday (March 13) night when legacy cast member Natalie West returned to the show to reprise her role as Crystal Anderson. West featured on the fifth episode of the currently airing sixth season, marking her first appearance on the Roseanne spinoff since the popular sitcom’s inaugural 2018 run. She appeared in the episode “When Sisters Collide and The Return of the Grifters,” where it was revealed Dan (John Goodman) had been using money to pay for her medical bills. Long-time viewers will remember West from Roseanne, where she starred in a total of 59 episodes across the show’s ten seasons. She was made a series regular for Seasons 3 and 4 and recurred before and after. Her character, Crystal, was introduced as an old friend of Roseanne and Dan. She later married Dan’s father, Ed (Ned Beatty), and the pair had two children together,...

The return of some classic Roseanne actors has come wondering if comedian Roseanne Barr will ever come back to play a role in The Conners.
Barr was the lead of the beloved ABC sitcom bearing her name for nine seasons from 1988 to 1997 along with a revival that saw the actress (along with the rest of the cast) return to the show in 2018.
However, despite plans for more, the Roseanne revival was canceled and the spin-off The Conners was greenlit, coming after Barr's reputation was sullied thanks to some controversial tweets.

Sex and the City aired on HBO from 1998 until 2004. For six seasons, fans of the series connected deeply with Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York. They watched as they fell in love, had their hearts broken, and rebounded, always with the help of their very best friends. Now, fans can reconnect with three of the four in And Just Like That…, the Max reboot. While the reboot has its fair share of critics, it’s still nice to reconnect with fictional old friends. One Sex and the City fan theory, however, would completely ruin the original series and all that came after it if it turned out to be true.

After months of For Your Consideration events, boxes and boxes of screeners, billboards all around Los Angeles and too many interviews, photo shoots and podcast recordings to even count, Television Academy voters will finally have their say on this year’s Primetime Emmy race starting this Monday.
Phase One ballots are out, and the more than 20,000 TV Academy members eligible to vote will now get to decide ultimately which shows, talent and below-the-line craftspeople will receive a coveted Emmy nomination. Some of this year’s top races are more competitive than in past years, including the return of one past winner (“Game of Thrones”) and the absence of another (“Veep”).
Unlike past years, there aren’t any major rules changes to shake up the race, but it could be argued that more money has been spent than ever as the list of shows in the hunt continues to grow. And with no guaranteed frontrunners yet,...
