In an early episode of the new HBO Max competition show “The Climb,” a pair of contestants face down a one-on-one climb-off to determine who stays on the show. They’re just two of about a dozen different climbers vying for a chance at some cash, recognition, and a shot at a potential new career. The challenge of the week is bouldering, meaning that without a rope system to tether a climber to the rock itself, the only thing protecting a potential two-story fall is a giant cushion on the ground.

NBC, which aired the first-ever “American Ninja Warrior” Women’s Championship, was a non-factor on the night. In the inaugural “American Ninja Warrior” Women’s Championship, 12 female competitors battled across two daunting courses. The Top 4 finishers advanced to race head-to-head on the Power Tower, with winner Meagan Martin taking home $50,000 and becoming the first ever “American Ninja Warrior” Women’s Champion. Congrats to her, and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms! But also, for the purposes of this story, congrats to ABC and CBS. Hey, "American Ninja Warrior" fans. Tonight, August 5, 2019, the Seattle/Tacoma City finals did indeed air. In this episode, the contestants had to get through a course that was filled with the following obstacles in the order they are presented here: Shrinking Steps, Lunatic Ledges, the Barrel Roll, the Broken Bridge, Lightning Bolts, Warped Wall, Salmon Ladder, Floating Monkey Bars, Northwest Passage, Spider Trap and the Power Tower. Tonight's episode kicked off with contestant Nick Hanson. During his run, he was able to make it to the Floating Monkey Bars part of the course before falling off. Next up was Olympic athlete Jeremy Taiwo. He is a Decathlete that competed in the Rio games as part of Team USA. During his run, he made it to the Lunatic Leges obstacle before giving out. After that, Jake Murray made his attempt. He was able to make it to the Lightning Bolts before falling off.

Universal Kids has set the premiere date for “American Ninja Warrior Junior,” with Olympic gold medal gymnast Laurie Hernandez set to join the show as co-host, Variety has learned exclusively.
Hernandez joins previously announced hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila (pictured below), with the “American Ninja Warrior” spinoff set to bow on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. on Universal Kids, NBCUniversal’s cable network for kids 2-12.
The series features real kids taking on the iconic course. Nearly 200 boy and girl Junior Ninjas from across the U.S. will face off on the same head-to-head courses in three age brackets: 9 & 10, 11 & 12, and 13 & 14 year olds. The courses will feature well-known Ninja Warrior obstacles, including Sonic Swing, Tic Toc, Spin Cycle, and the Warped Wall.
